Family Histories & Bible Records

Family histories and Bible records are the most personal material in the archive. A family Bible page can date a birth or a marriage decades before the county kept registers. It also preserves the spelling a family used for itself, rather than the one a clerk chose.

This section also holds compiled family narratives, letters and household papers contributed by descendants. Much of it was written from memory or from documents now lost, so treat the dates as the family’s own account. Where a compiler named their sources, the transcription keeps that attribution.
