-LIVE NEWS FROM FRUITLAND--Mr.& Mrs.Frank LASTER,of Rutherford,spent Sunday
with her father,J.H.REEVES.
--Mr.Jerry HARDISON,of Ridgely is visiting his son,Carey HARDISON.
-INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON--Mr.Haywood ADAMS,of Fulton Ky.,and Mrs.Zadie
BOCKMAN,of Texas,visited their aunt,Mrs.O.L.CHANDLER,this week.Mr.ADAMS and
his sister lived here 44 years ago and this is their first visit since they
left.
--Miss Johnnie HALE,of Milan,spent Saturday in Gibson,the guest of her
uncle,H.P.HALE and family.
-DEATH--Mr.M.S.BARR,one of Humboldt’s old and most respected citizens,died
Satrday morning,Sept.25th,at an early hour,after being in a low state of
health for a long time.He was 69 years of age and had been a resident of
Humboldt for about eight years,coming here from Russellville,Ky.,to engage in
the photograph business.He is survived by his wife;sons,Jesse,of this city and
Lindsey,of Doucette,Texas.
-WEEK’S DOINGS OF MEDINA PEOPLE--Mrs.Gerald LOVELL,of Canyon City,Colo.,is
visiting her parents,Mr.& Mrs.D.B.ROWLETT.
--Mrs.GRAVES,of Jackson,spent a few days this week with her daughter,Mrs.Lee
EDWARDS,of the Hope Hill neighborhood.
-ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN--Prof.& Mrs.Fred BLANCHARD are rejoicing over
the arrival of a baby girl in their home at Elizabeth,Tennessee.
--Chester WLLIAMS is quite ill with a severe case of typhoid fever.Miss Bertha
WILLIAMS,a trained nurse,of Jackson,is attending him.
--A recent report brought the sad news of the death of Enloe BETTIS,of Okla.He
was the son of the late Van BETTIS,who once resided in Bells.Enloe was born
and partially reared in Bells,but till recently had made his home with his
mother in Ripley.At the time of his death,he was working his way through
school in Okla.
-CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--O.P.GREEN,of Halls,visited his brothers,Tuck
and Till GREEN last Sunday. --Jesse SMITH,of near Chestnut Bluff,visited his
uncles,Dr.WELLS & Keeble HARRIS last Sunday.
--Mr.F.N.JOHNSON & wife & baby,Dorothy,of Mobile,Ala.,will arrive this week
for a visit to the family of his father,Esq.J.G.JOHNSON.
--Mrs.Bessie REED,who has been here on a visit to her son,Dr.Marion REED and
family,left for Blytheville,Ark.,Friday to visit another son.
--Mr.Frank LASSITER,who was hurt in an automobile accident mentioned in last
week’s paper,died at the Homer Hospital,Dyersburg Wednesday and was buried
Thursday afternoon with Masonic Honors in Alamo Cemetery.
-IN MEMORY--On September 13th,the Death Angel entered the home of
Mr.W.W.SANDERS and took from him his son.The deceased leaves behind to mourn
his death,a father,step-mother,three sisters,five brothers & grandparents.

-SOCIETY--A wedding of interest to a number of Humboldt people occurred in
Memphis last Thursday,when James Howard YANDELL & Cornelia BIGELOW were
married at the home of the bride’s parents,Mr.& Mrs.F.P.CARPENTER.
--Miss Martha Louise TODD,whose marriage to Donald E.CREWS,of
Denver,Colo.,will be solemnized in October,was the honoree at a beautiful
planned miscellaneous shower on Saturday afternoon,given by Mrs.Eldon HAWKS
and her sister,Miss Mamie DUFFEY.
--Hon.Hoyes BOWERS and wife ,of Caldwell.Texas,are here visiting his
brother,Allen BOWERS and family.
--BORN to Mr.& Mrs.George POTTS,on Thursday,Sept.30th,a son.

-LOCAL NEWS--BORN to Mr.& Mrs.Tom BANKS on last Friday,a fine baby girl.
--Mrs.Henry,of Murfreesboro,Tenn.,is visiting her daughter,Mrs.Lofton
FAIRLESS.
-DEATH--The remains of Dr.Charles T.LOVE were brought here from Nashville
Tuesday and carried to the home of his brother,Mr.J.O.LOVE,and buried at Rose
Hill Cemetery Wednesday morning.He died at a hospital in Nashville,where he
had been under treatment for about six weeks,suffering from a complication of
diseases.He was about 61 years of age,survived by his wife;two sons,Charlie &
Henry LOVE; one daughter,Sadie LOVE; two brothers,J.O.,and Temple LOVE,of
Memphis.Dr.LOVE gave up his practice in Alamo about a year ago,and removed
with his family to Floral City,Fla.,on account of his failing health.He
gradually grew worse,until some 6 weeks ago,when it was deemed best to put him
under the care of a Nashville hospital.Dr.LOVE was a son of Dr.C.T.LOVE,a well
beloved physician of Humboldt.He was reared in Trenton and followed his father
in the practice of medicine.
-INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON--Many pre-nuptial affairs are planned for Misses
Lillian HALE & Elizabeth JONES,brides-elect.One Thursday afternoon,Miss
Lillian HALE,will be given by her sister,Mrs.J.P.SIRES a miscellaneous
shower,in their lovely home in this city.She will marry Robert Q.BENNETT on
October 14th.On Tuesday evening,Oct.12th,Miss Viola FLY will entertain in
honor of Miss Elizabeth JONES.
--Oscar MATHIAS,of Seattle,Wash.,visited his mother,Mrs.Sallie BASS.
--On Friday evening,October 8th,Martha BURNS will give a prettily planned
miscellaneous shower for Lillian HALE.
--On Saturday,October 8th,Elizabeth JONES,whose marriage Saturday,October
16th,to Carey HILL has been announced,will be honoree at a party given by
Helen PARKER.
--Aunt Harriett MOORE,a respectable colored woman about 80 years old,died at
her home here Wednesday night.
-MEDINA--The infant child of Mr.& Mrs.W.F.PILLOWS,died Monday evening,and was
buried at Double Springs Tuesday.The child had been in the home only about
four weeks.
-CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Mr.& Mrs.Lee BRANDON and children,of
Halls,spent Sunday here with their parents,Mr.& Mrs.Wash CATES.
--Miss Virgie WARREN returned Sunday from a 10-days stay with her
sister,Mrs.Annie WOOLEY,at Memphis.
--Mrs.Lucy WALKER is here at the bedside of her brother,Clyde MORRIS,who is
critically ill at his home on Burns Street.
-DAVIDSON’S CHAPEL--Mrs.Minnie DAVIDSON was called to the bedside of her
daughter,Mrs.MANNERS,near Milan last week.
--Mrs.Orian AKINS left Friday for Decatur County,where she will attend her
mother’s funeral.
-ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN--Little Clara MARLOWE left last Tuesday for
Nashville,where she expects to enter the school for the blind.
--Mrs.Queete HEGLAR,of Brownsville,was a visitor last week in the home of her
mother,Mrs.W.W.RICHARDSON.
--All his friends extend sympathy to Clifford DAVIS in the death of his mother
last Monday.Mr.DAVIS and his daughter,Mrs.Henry EDWARDS attended the funeral
Tuesday.
--Mrs.Pauline BRANCH,a trained nurse,of Nashville,is on a visit to her
father,H.P.WILSON and family.
-FRIENDSHIP,TENN.,Oct.4th--Ivan SLAYTON,son of Esq.W.B.SLAYTON and Miss
Gertrude GLYNN,daughter of Jim GLYNN,were united in marruage Saturday
night,Esq.S.H.BEDWELL officiating.
--John B.YORK,Jr.,died at his home north of town,aged 38 years.He is survived
by his wife;four children;his father; four brothers and three sisters.He was
the eldest son of Dr.J.B.YORK,of this city.The remains were interred at
Bellevue Cemetery,this city.Mr.YORK was one of the leading farmers of Dyer
County.
-BELLS,R.F.D.#3--Mrs.Mollie PERMENTER was the guest of Mrs.WOODSON last week.
--Tom HILLIARD will move his family to Bolivar this week,where they will make
their future home.
--Mr.& Mrs.Maud CARLEE,of Illinois,were visiting her parents,Mr.&
Mrs.R.H.MOCKBEE,last week.
--Mrs.Josie CARR spent Sunday in Jackson with her son,Spencer CARR.
-SOCIETY--Dr.& Mrs.Raymond D.HENDERSON have just returned from New York,where
Dr.HENDERSON has been doing post graduate work at the Post Graduate Hospital
for the past seven months.He was recently discharged from the Air
Service,U.S.Army,Southern Field,Americus,GA.,where he was post surgeon.He has
opened offices in the Lee Building. ( The Commerical Appeal)
--Mr.& Mrs.C.W.JARRELL and father,L.J.JARRELL,returned Monday from
Yoakum,Texas,where they have been making their home.They are glad to be back
in Humboldt.
--Mrs.Mattie BURNETT & Mrs.Harris NELSON left Monday for Nashville,where they
will visit Mrs.Burnett’s daughter,Mrs.C.B.COOPER.
--Mrs.F.A.WATSON and daughter,Caroline,of Jackson,spent the weekend,the guest
of their daughter and sister,Mrs.E.R.BOONE.
--Mrs.J.A.PEARCE & children left today for San Diego,Calif.,to spend some time
with her sister,Mrs.J.W.BLACKARD.
--Mrs.E.W.RENFRO,of Earlington,Ky.,has been here this week visiting her
parents,Mr.& Mrs.J.M.WOODSON.

--Mr.Morgan THOMISON died at the home of his son,Hollis,on last Saturday
evening.Funeral services were conducted by Rev.McILWAINE,at the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon,interment at Oakland Cemetery.He is also
survived by a daughter.
-CARD OF THANKS--We wish to thank the many white friends and citizens in and
around Gibson,for their hospitality and kind service rendered during the
sickness and death of our dear mother,Mrs.Harriet MOORE,who departed this life
Wednesday evening,October 6,1920 at 10:20 o’clock.We also want to thank them
for their floral offerings.We feel that their kindness will never be

-MILAN,TENN.,OCTOBER 11th--Walter THOMAS,a young druggist and Miss Pauline
MOORE,accompanied by young friends,motored to Oakwood and were married.They
returned to the home of the bride,where a reception was held.The bride is the
daughter of J.House MOORE,a well known traveling man in West Tennessee,and
North Mississippi.
-CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Miss Jennie GALLION,of Paris is visiting her
sister,Mrs.H.W.COOKE.
--Mrs.J.B.McCUTCHEN received a telegram while in Humboldt last Tuesday from
her neice,Mrs.George WRIGHT,of Atlanta,Ga.,asking her to come immediately to
attend the bedside of Mr.WRIGHT,who is seriously ill.
--Mr.& Mrs.Sam WARREN’s little baby daughter,Ruby Nance,has been very low with
dyptheria,but is somewhat improved at this writing.
--Messers.Will & John DODSON had the misfortune to lose their sawmill by a
fire a week or so ago.
--Mr.& Mrs.Joe REECE,of Crockett Mills,are at the bedside of their little
neice,Ruby WARREN.
--Mr.George BALDRIDGE,after a long illness of Bright’s Disease,died at his
home southwest of Alamo early Monday morning and was buried in Alamo Cemetery
Tuesday.
--Young John LASTER,who was seriously injured in the accident several weeks
ago,is able to be up again.
-LOCAL NEWS HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN--Mr.Edgar HAWKS,who is working in
Memphis,spent last week with his parents,Mr.& Mrs.T.L.HAWKS.
--Mr.Slade STALLINGS has returned from Houston and Austin,Texas,where he
attended the Confederate Reunion and visited his brother,Mr.Lawrence
STALLINGS.
--Mr.A.W.EMISON has moved his family to Humboldt from Crockett County,and will
make this place his home in the future.He has bought an interest in the
Humboldt Battery and Vulcanizing Co.
--Mr.Aubrey GRAVES,who had the misfortune to lose his home to fire some time
ago,is building a new five room residence on his farm two miles south of
Antioch,on Route 6. J.R.CHANDLER,of Humboldt,has charge of the work.
-MILAN,TENN.,October 8th--Fred BRYANT,a properous farmer near Popular
Springs,and Miss Mary Brown GREER were married in the presence of relatives
and friends,Rev.TAYLOR performing the ceremony.The bride is the daughter of
Mr.& Mrs.Lee GREER,north of Milan.
-INTERESTING ITEMS FROM GADSDEN--Mrs.Inez MOBLEY,of Medina,spent part of last
week here with her mother,Mrs.M.E.RICHARDSON,and other relatives.
--John EZZELL,of Memphis,was here a few days since,visiting his mother and his
sister,Mrs.J.B.WALLIS.
--Mr.& Mrs.Garvin DAVIS are rejoicing because the Stork has left them a wee
baby girl.
--Mrs.Virginia CARTER,of Bells,was a recent guest in the home of her
sister,Mrs.John HUNTER.
--The Stork has left a fine baby boy with Mr.& Mrs.David SPRAGGINS.
--Mrs.Annie HUNTER visited in the home of her nephew,Prof.Harry CARTER,at
Bells last Friday.
--Mrs Nannie FAIRLESS,of Laneview,spent several days last week at the bedside
of her brother,Robert L.ROSAMON.
-SOCIETY--Mrs.R.L.CRADDOCK announces the approaching marriage of her
daughter,Eunice,to David Sammie REEVES on Tuesday,October 19th.
--Mr.Claude A.JOHNSON and Miss Katie Pearl FEWELL were married at the home of
Rev.& Mrs.R.V.HOPE on last Friday night at 8 o’clock.
--Mesdames Thomas W.HEAD,of Paris,Tenn.,and J.Gradys HENDERSON,of
Detroit,Mich.,who have been visiing their parents,Mr.& Mrs.E.M.HENDERSON,left
Wednesday for Bells,to be guests of Mr.& Mrs.Sam FERRELL.They were also guests
of Mr.& Mrs.J.Hicks WILLIAMS.
--Mrs.E.W.HAWKS returned Monday from a visit to Shrevesport,La.She was
accompanied home by her son,Lloyd.
--Mr.& Mrs.Ben Irvine BELL,of Kansas City,Mo.,arrived Wednesday to spend a few
days with their aunt,Mrs.Albert P.DODSON.Mr.BELL was formerly from
Dresdan,Tenn.
--Mrs.Frank TWIST and little son,of Twist,Ark.,are guests of her
mother,Mrs.J.D.BONDS.

croup.The body was buried at Double Springs on Saturday.
--Mr.Kit FLY,of Parmer,Mo.,is visiting his brother,L.E.FLY.

-CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Mr.Dick SKELTON left last week for
Nashville,where he will spend the winter with his daughter,Mrs.Charles KIRK.
--Buck AUSTIN,who has been at work the past six months at the depot at this
place,has had a promotion to an office in Jackson.Young Mr.BRANCH takes his
place here.
--Mrs.Fannye BAUMBERGER left last Tuesday to join her husband at
Hopkinsville,Ky.,where they will reside in the future.
--Virgil OLDHAM,who left with his family for Texas first of the year,in quest
of health,returned home and it greives us to state he is no better.They are in
the home of Mrs.OLDHAM’s father,Mr.& Mrs.G.T.LEWIS.
--Mrs.Mary DAVIS,a much esteemed Christian lady,died after a week’s illness of
pneumonia at her home in District 1 Sunday and was buried Monday.
--Mr.Todd BALDRIDGE died suddenly at his home in the 7th District
Wednesday morning.
-ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN--Esq.& Mrs.R.B.GRIGGS,of Mason’s Grove,have as
their guests their daughter,Mrs.Nannie HELMS and her two sons,Eugene &
Edward,of Nashville.
--The little two year old daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Weldon FERGUSON fell into an
open fire and was badly burned about the head and face.
--John PORTER and Wavie BLURTON were married a few days ago,the ceremony was
performed by Esq.S.L.PEARSON.
-SOCIETY--Mr.Jno.H.BRANNAM and Miss Eddie WILLOUGHBY were married
Tuesday.

-TRAGIC DEATH OF FINE YOUNG BOY--The community was shocked Saturday afternoon
when it was learned that Mack COPLIN,the 13-year-old son of Dr.W.L.COPLIN,had
been fatally hurt by the overturning of an automobile.Mack was riding in a car
driven by Emmett MAYS,a somewhat older boy,when the accident happened.The car
ran into a ditch,overturned and Mack was caught by the falling machine and so
badly crushed,he never regained consciousness.Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
-ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN--Nellie & Lillian CRADDOCK spent the weekend
with their cousin,Frances MITCHELL.
--Mr.& Mrs.H.W.REEVES and children,Misses Carrie Lou and Minnie B.,and Milton
& Jim,attended the marriage of Eunice CRADDOCK and D.S.REEVES last Tuesday
evening.
--Friends of Miss Ethel THOMAS received news that she is to be married on
Monday to R.D.BRYANT,of Bells.
--Frank & Clyde RICHARDSON have gone to Nashville to be character witnesses
for Mr.STRANGER,agent for L.& N.Railroad;in a law suit.
--The little son of Mr.& Mrs.L.CROWE died last Friday of pneumonia.The little
body was buried at Double Springs.
--Mr.S.J.ATCHISON and children and Mr.& Mrs.J.H. LANKFORD were called to the
bedside of their son and brother,Roy ATCHISON,who died near Hope Hill
Tuesday,after an illness of typhoid fever.
-LOCAL HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN--Mr.J.N.MIDYETT,of Jackson,spent Sunday
with friends in Humboldt.
--Mr.Odie SPRAGGINS came home from Wilson,Ark.,to attend the funeral of Claude
SPRAGGINS.
--Mr.John FOLTZ was called to Indianapolis,Ind.,Wednesday,on account of the
death of his father,Nicholas FOLTZ.
--Mr.F.X.FOLTZ was also called to Ind.,on account of the death of his
brother,Nicholas FOLTZ.He was accompanied by his wife and his daughter,Miss
Laura.
--Frank GATEWOOD,of Marathon,Texas,has been here this week,visiting his
father,J.W.GATEWOOD.He left Wednesday for Louisville to visit his
sister,Mrs.J.S.LOUGHMILLER,before returning home.
