Advanced Search
Search runs across every transcribed record on this site — census sheets, obituaries, wills, deeds, cemetery listings, town and family histories — and you can narrow by state, county and record type together. Leave a field blank to ignore it.
Two habits help with material written by hand a century ago. Search less, not more: a surname alone usually beats a full name, because given names were abbreviated or initialised as often as written out. And try the spelling you would not expect — these documents were written by ear, so a family may be filed under a variant of the name you know. If nothing matches, the surname index shows which spellings actually occur.
