Miss Eloise Yates spent several days in Newbern.

Mrs. Joe Zaricor and son of Metropolis, Ill., were guests of Mr. and

Mrs. John Perkins.

Rev. and Mrs. Willie Zaricor and children of Lebanon were visitors of

Mrs. Nancy Thompson.

Atty. George Pigue and family of Dyersburg and Mary Martha Pigue of Nebo

were visitors of Miss Pauline Pigue.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Birchett and daughter, Alice Jean, of Kenton were the

guest of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Johnson.

Thomas Owens of Memphis spent several days with his grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. W.H. Owens.

Miss J???ie Carter spent several days with relatives at China Grove.

Mr. Wright McDaniel of Salem, Ky. was a visitor in the city Sunday.  He

was on his way to Trenton to attend a meeting of the McDaniel kindred.

Mrs. Mag Holloway visited in Dyer.

Miss Ruby Edwards, Mrs. John Barner and son, W.T., visited in Alamo

Sunday.

Miss Vertrice Crouse is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Fannie Knox, at Trenton.

Mrs. Obera Simpson and daughter, Zelma, of Huntingdon, Mrs. Emma Irving

and son, Dr. Sharp, of Troy were visitors in the home of C.H. Sharp.

Fred and Mrs. Vaughn and daughter of Memphis were visitors here Sunday.

Mrs P.C. Thurmond and daughter of Dyersburg, Russell and Mrs. Reed of

Jackson, H.E. and Mrs. Hamilton and son of Memphis visited Mrs. J.L.

Haguewood.

Miss Virginia Haguewood is the guest of Mrs. H.E. Hamilton in Memphis.

Luther and Mrs. McKenzie spent Sunday in Paris.

Mrs. Jeff Ray of Kenton is the guest of Mrs. D.V. Horner.

Lowell King moved from East Rutherford to the Tom Arnold home Monday.

RITES FOR ??? BARTON

  Funeral services were held at the home on Trenton Street here at 2

o'clock Wednesday afternoon for Mr. Gentry S. Barton, who died at 9:20

Tuesday morning Jan. 2 after a few weeks ??????.  He moved to Rutherford

with his family from Weakly County about 31 (or 81) years ago and was a

successful businessman and farmer, owning much land in the north end of

Gibson County.  He was a member of the Rutherford C.?. Church.  He is

survived by his wife, one son and three daughters, Edgar ?. Barton of

this city; Miss Kathleen Barton, city; Mrs. Broeck Cummings, city, and

Mrs. Wood Ye???? of ??????.

  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cun????? of Union City.

Burial followed at the Rutherford cemetery.

  Pallbearers were ???? Thompson, Erb White, V. ?????, ?. Cain, Thomas

Pate, ??????????.

KING'S CHAPEL

  Fay King has been right sick for several days.  Among those visiting

there Sunday were: Hugh Jackson and family, Burns Allen and family, J.P.

Crenshaw and Jimmie Arnold.

  Walter Boyett and wife spent Sunday afternoon with T.J. Jackson and

wife.

  Mina Merl Bopett spent the week end with Ruth Lasater.

  Maxine and Ollie Hall from near Greenfield and Margie Jackson visited

their aunt, Mrs. Fay King, Thursday night and Friday.

  Mrs. Burnal Allen and daughter visited her sister, Mrs. Solton

Cunningham, south of Trenton Monday.

  Johnie Jackson spent a few days last week in the home of his uncle,

T.J. Jackson.

  Emerson and Cecil King, Floyd Allen, James Alexander, Harold Kerr,

Glen Gates, Carl and James Jackson spent Sunday afternoon with James and

J.W. King.

  Bose Sullivan and wife spent Thursday and Friday at Burnal Allen's.

  George King and family spent Sunday at C.C. Willis'.

  Mrs. Zeta Boyett spent Monday at Milton Montgomery's.

  Virginia King spent last week in Jackson in the home of her aunt, Mrs.

Lavern Manley.

  Mrs. Clyde King and daughter, Jaunita, spent several days last week in

the home of her parents, Egbert Edmundson and wife.

Rutherford Route One

  After spending a few pleasant holidays let us try to start the New

Year with renewed energy and make it a good year.

  Ellie Headen and family of Chicago spent several days visiting

relatives in the community.

  Mildred Kay spent Saturday night with Lucile Keathley.

  Mrs. W.B. Norton returned home Saturday after spending several days

visiting relatives in Iuka, Miss.

  Those visiting George Pool and wife Sunday were: Harrison Whitley,

wife and daughter, John Whitley, wife and son, Wallace, Mattie Lee

Tilghman and wife and Jim Kay and wife.

  J.W. Kay and family were dinner guests of J.V. Shackleton and family

Tuesday.

  George R. Mitchell and wife were visitors at T.C. Hewell's and J.W.

Kay's during the holidays.

  Howell Needham and family have moved in the house with his father,

T.S. Needham.

  Rufus Glidewell and family will move to the place vacated by Howell

Needham.

RITES FOR MRS. GLISSON

  Mrs. Bettie Glisson, wife of R.E. Glisson, died at her home here

Wednesday night, Dec. 20.  She was 59 years of age and until the past

few months took an active part in the affairs of this community.  Mrs.

Glisson was born and reared four miles west of Rutherford being the

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Courtney.  Soon after her marriage she

moved to Rutherford and for the past thirty years she has identified

herself closely with its civic and church life.  She was a member of the

Cumberland Presbyterian Church of this City.

  Funderal services were in charge of Karnes Funeral Home and were

conducted at the Baptist Church by Rev. Zaricor, a former pastor,

assisted by Rev. Spence, of this city.  Interment was at the local

cemetery.

  Surviving Mrs. Glisson are her husband, R.E. Glisson; two sons,

Courtney Glisson of Memphis, Tilghman Glisson of St. Petersburg, Fla.;

three daughters, Mrs. Edgar Barton of Rutherford, Mrs. D.C. Taylor and

Mrs. Albert L. King of Memphis; two brothers, W.E. Courtney of

Rutherford and John Courtney of St. Louis; one sister, Mrs. D.F. Glisson

of Rutherford.

  Pallbearers: B. Cummings, D.J. Rion, Alex Johnson, M.J. Savage, R.T.

Norman, H.H. Taylor.

RITES FOR AGED LADY

  Mrs. Mary A. Witherington, 83, wife of the late Esq. D. Witherington,

died at the home of her son, J.N. Witherington, east of town, December

27, after a lingering illness.  Funeral was held at Walnut Grove Church

the following day, conducted by Rev. W.A. Butler of Martin.  Burial

followed there.  Karnes Funeral Home in charge.

  The deceased is survived by two sones, H.C. and J.W. Witherington; two

daughters, Mrmes. J.F. Duffer and I.S. Simmons; several grandchildren

and a number of great grandchildren.

  Dr. W. Freed Bell left a few days ago for Fort Smelling, Minn., where

he will be connected with Government service.

  Mrs. Gladys Thor?pehn and children, Elmer Hoyt and Marion Jo, of

Walnut Grove spent the holidays with Mrs. Mary O'Daniel at Memphis.

  A.L. Yearwood of Gladewater, Texas spent an hour in the city Friday,

being called to his old home at Alamo to attend the funeral of his aged

father who died just prior to the holidays.  Mr. Yearwood is

Superintendent of a lot of valuable land near Gladewater that is in the

hands of a receiver.

  Fire of unknown origin destroyed the barn of Lonnie Gravett, near the

Rutherford Cotton Gin on Thursday afternoon last week, together with

considerable hay, partly belonging to W.F. Reed, and some corn.  A car

was slightly damaged.

  According to report the CWA will start at once to erect a gynmasium in

the rear of the Rutherford Hi building.  Work has been going on for some

time toward making some rooms in the basement for needed purposes.

  On December 13, 1933, 34615 bales of cotton had been ginned, to same

date last year it was 34095 bales.  For the State 1933, 417322, for 1932

425609.

  Ray Pate, George Schilings and Howard Davis, CCC boys in East

Tennessee camps, spent Christmas with homefolks.

  Mrs. Maggie Bell visited at J.D. Harrison's recently.

  Margaret Johnson of near Greenfield spent the week end in this

community.

  Melvin Richardson and family were visitors at J.D. Harrison's Monday.

William Ford and family, Sallie Kate Belew, Fern Harrison, Faye Needham,

Linor Lee McCollum and Helen Coker.

  Fern Harrison spent Saturday night with Sarah and Audrey Needham.

  John Jones and wife of Dyer visited Mrs. Sallie Thompson a part of

last week.

  Dock Thurmond and wife had as their guests during the holidays his

sister and grand-daughter from near Elbridge.

  Bishop Needham and family spent one night last week with Fount Ford

and family.

  J.D. Harrison, wife and daughter visited at Melvin Richardson's Friday

night.

  Virginia and Elizabeth Ford spent Thursday at Leon Harrison's.

and Martha Dedmon last week.

  Marjorie Thompson visited Martha Nell Howell Sunday.

  Misses Gilford Earl Crank and Nell Stephenson of Dyer were in our

midst last week.

  Henry Halliburton and family, Mrs. Roland Horner and E.M. Horner were

guests of Will Thompson Friday.

  Roy Cowan and family and Gilford Earl Crank were dinner guests of

Forrest Thompson one day last week.
