Mr F A KENNEDY spent a few days the past week with relatives and friends in
Martin.
Lowell RICKMAN, who is attending school at Henderson, returned home for the
holidays.
Miss Maggie PHILLIPS of Dyer was the guest of J W HOLLOWAY Saturday and
Sunday.
Dr. B? F? HINSON of Linden Tenn visited his son, Lonnie HINSON, near Walnut
Grove last week.
R B TINKLE Jr accompanied by his family of Willisville ILL spent the holidays
with his parents here.
Mr Wilson TOWNSEND spent the holidays in Campbelle Mo with relatives and
friends, especially the latter.
Mrs M D NUNEMACHER and brother, W O WILLIAMS, spent Christmas with relatives
and friends in Humbolt.
Gov Hooper has paroled Odell BOGLE of this county who was sentenced to seven
years for voluntary manslaughter.
For some reason Christmas did not bring the usual large number of far away
people back to Rutherford this time.
Mr F RONE of Memphis, accompanied by his family, was the guest of relatives in
and near Rutherford last week.
Rev F M CODE, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Dyer, fell dead at his home
Christmas morning, aged 75 years.
Mr J C Perciful has purchased the home of Mr Charles PENNINGTON on Knox street
and will remain there with his family.
Richard DAVIS and Lowell RICKMAN took the census of Rutherford just before the
holidays and claimed to book 860 residents.
L C THORN of Corinth Miss was the guest of his parents, Mr and Mrs W T H
THORN, on Main Street a few days this week.
Attorney and Mrs J H THOMAS of Shawnee Okla amd Miss Arline WILSON of Okla are
guest of Mr E? T Ward’s family.
Mr J L BROWN moved to Dyer just before the holidays. He will return to
Rutherford as soon as he can secure a suitable home here.

Mrs Laura JONES and little son of Trenton spent the holidays with her parents,

Mr Odell NORMAN, who is learning the printing business, spent several days
with his parents at Dyersburg last week.
Prof D W MOODY and wife of Rutherford are at home to spend this Christmas. We
are glad to hear of the flourishing condition of his school. B. Sentinel
Mr George CROUSE , who has been with a large stove company at Mobile Ala for a
few years, has resigned with that company and is at home for the present.
There were 26,532 bales of cotton ginned in Gibson County from the crop of
1913 previous to the date of Dec 13, as compared with 18,284 bales prior to
the same date of 1912.
Attorney Albert j ELROD, who had been here about four months assisting in the
care of Mr J A ALFORD’s business, will leave in a few days for his home in
Seattle, Wash.
Mr and Mrs J W JENNINGS of Hickman Ky spent the holidays with the latter’s
father, Mr ALLEN, near town. They left Friday to visit in Jackson Tenn and
Mobile Ala before returning to their home.
One of our most popular young ladies yesterday went into a drug store for a
bath sponge. In asking for it she made the ludicrous mistake of requesting
the clerk to give her a sponge bath. The clerk swooned and his recovery is
doubtful. In order to get this item in we promised to mention no names.
Mr Charles PENNINGTON will move his family to Wheeler Ala in a few days where
he has contracted to take charge of an immensely large orchard which belongs
to the Misses Wheeler, daughters of Gen Joe WHEELER, deceased. Mr George
ALEXANDER will also move there to help him with the orchard. Mr PENNINGTON
and his family have been citizens of our town for a number of years and we are
sorry they are going to leave. But we wish them success in their new home.

Mr and Mrs Carl STEEL returned Wednesday from a week’s visit to relatives at
Obion.
Mr Dave MAYS has moved from the 19th district to Dyer to operate the
exchange of the Home Telephone Co there.
Mr and Mrs C F KING of Greenfield spent a few days wit the latter’s
parents, Mr and Mrs S LUMPKIN, near town.
Mr Marion CROCKETT has been quite ill at his home here for several days, and
his demise at any time would not surprise.
Messers. J L HAGUEWOOD of this city and N A JOHNSON of Greenfield left
Wednesday afternoon for a three day bird hunt.
Miss Willie McMACKIE, teacher at Tygret TN, spent Christmas with her college
friend, Miss Annie LUMPKIN, near town.

At the family home on Main Street here Tuesday afternoon late, Mrs L J LAW
died suddenly of heart disease. She had been slightly sick of nervous
breakdown for several days. The deceased was 65 years and one day old. She
is survived by a husband and several grown children, was a member of the
Primitive Baptist Church. The remains were embalmed in order that some of
her children living at a distance might attend the burial, which took place
at Concord Cemetery a few miles East at Trenton today.(Thursday)

We have had some very stormy weather since the New Year came in but we hope
that the sun will shine again.
There has been quite a lot of moving and changing of homes in our community
during the past two weeks.

Mr Jim MARTIN made a business trip to Brazil Monday.

their home in Mayfield KY after a week’s visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs J
F GILBERT.
Mr and Mrs John PERKINS spent Friday night with Mr W H GRAVETT’s family.
Mr J G JACOBS has sold his farm to Mr Jim CARTWRIGHT of near Dyer. Mr
JACOBS will move his family to Dyer.
Mr Curtis GRAVETT made a pleasant call at Mr PERKIN’s Sunday afternoon.
Edwin says he is always welcome.
Misses Gladys BONDS and Vergie SPENSE visited the Misses GAVETT Saturday
afternoon.
The 23rd DISTRICT:
The weather was very rough during the holidays and the young people who were
anticipating a big time were much disappointed.
Christmas Eve the China Grove Sunday School had a nice Christmas tree for
the children. A party at Al CAIN’s Friday eve was enjoyed by a number of
youngsters who braved the weather.
Miss Elsie FORDE, who is teaching at Henderson, spent the holidays with home
folk.
Oscar BARKER was called to Little Rock ARK, his sister, Mrs Mollie O’GUINN,
being very ill.
Christmas Eve Mr Guy LANDRUM, a well known young man of the 23rd District,
and Miss Jessie GRANT, an estimable young lady of China Grove, were united
in marriage, Esq W R COUCH officiating.
At the home of the brides father, Mr HARTLY of the 11th District, Mr Robert
DAVIDSON, an estimable young man of the 23re District, and Miss Gertrude
HARTLY, an attractive young lady of Lynn Point, were united in marriage
Sunday Evening.
The remains of Mrs Buck TAYLOR, who died at here home near Lynn Point, were
entered at Antioch last Thursday.
Will HOLLINGSWORTH of the 11th District is very ill with pneumonia.
YORKVILLE ITEMS:
The present unfavorable weather bids fair for another gloomy week, but the
gloomy days lends to make us enjoy the sunshine the more.
We are glad to report Messrs F M IPKIN and L A THORNTON able to be up after
several weeks illness.
Mrs Joe POPE is visiting relatives at Milan this week.
After a week’s visit to her sister, Mrs Bonnie BANKS, Miss Adell SANSTER
has returned to her home at Newbern.
