Obituaries

An obituary is often the only place a family's own account of a death survives. These transcriptions carry what a certificate leaves out. Survivors are named, along with the church that held the service and the place of burial. Many notices also say how long the family had been in the county.

Coverage is heaviest in Crockett County, where volunteers worked through decades of newspaper death notices. Spelling follows the printed original, including the initials many papers used in place of first names.
