WASHINGTON,JAN.11--Congressman OTIS WINGO, of DeQueen, Ark., is ill here today

after two attacks in the Capitol Monday. His condition is reported as fair.

BULLETIN--A round-up of the underworld, some fast "undercover work" and police

Tuesday afternoon were holding three suspects in the $5300 robbery and

marauding of the home of MRS.GEORGE T.BRODNAX, SR., early Tuesday. Two of the men

held: C.E. STEWART and J.A. STEPHENS were captured in the Broadmore

hotel, H.L.PARKER was arrested on the street. In the BRODNAX home at the time of

the robbery were MRS.GEORGE T.BRODNAX,SR.; GEROGE T.BRODNAX,JR.,her son; MR.&

MRS.ALBERT BIGGS,her son-in-law and daughter; MRS.SUE WATKINS,her aged mother;

MARGARET and ANDREW JOBE,of Mason,Tenn.No one was harmed.

JILTED LOVE-SLAYER IS ESCAPED CONVICT--MARSHALL SPIGENER, 29,who admits slaying

his sweetheart, MRS. GRACE BENNETT,27, Friday night in a fit of jealously, is an

escaped convict, it was learned Tuesday. According to information from Little

Rock,Ark.,police,   SPIGENER escaped September 16th,1924,from the Tucker Prison

Farm. He had been sentenced to two years prison on a charge of grand larceny.

WHEN HUNTERS' TIES ARE CLOSEST--More than 20 years ago, TOM B.KING, head of the

tourist bureau of the Chamber of Commerce, found a little boy sleeping with his

head on a fox hound under a tree near Lenox,Tenn. The boy's name was CRISLER. A

few weeks ago, KING, whose hair is turning grey, needed a doctor. There was only

one surgeon in Memphis whom he would permit to perform the operation. That

man's name was CRISLER-DR.J.A.CRISLER,JR. "J.A.CRISLER,SR., and I had hunted

foxes more than 22 years together." "In 1909,we had an engagement to attend

the annual camp and field meet of the Forked Deer Red Fox Club on Coon creek

in Dyer County.ON account of professional work,DR.CRISLER could not attend."

"He bundled up his son, handed him the leashes of his two best dogs and put

them on the train to Lenox.  It was dark when he got there,but 'J.A.' started

out on foot for the camp." "The next morning at 4 a.m. the hunters found the

boy asleep under a big tree, with his head lying on one of the dogs. He had been

lost and slept there all night." "I put him up on my horse and took him back

to the camp,where we got a horse for him.He was not accustomed to riding, and

the second day he preferred to walk.That night he was in such a shape that he

needed medical treatment." "The fortitude with which he spent that night under

a tree and the next two at the fox hunt was such as I never found before in a

boy." "Since then I have felt that he belonged to me. That's why, when I need a

doctor, I decided it must be he."

INDICT BANDITS--Indicted by the grand jury were : HAYNES HOGAN,

I.M.PEAY,JR.,and CLAUDE ARMOUR,alleged "thrill bandits," who several weeks ago

stole a car and engaged in a gun battle with police,were indicted for Robbery.

DAVID GUESS,alleged leader of the bandit band,was killed in the gun battle.

MARTIN GILLIAN and NELLE HARTMAN were indicted for violating liquor law. True

bills were also returned against JACK HOWE,larceny; DEMPSEY WILLIAMS,larceny;

ALBERT WILLIAMS,larceny; and ED BAKER,disporing of mortgage property.

DEMANDS $5000--Charging that FRANK MacCARIO ran into and demolished his wagon

and then forced him to pay $5,HENRY COLLIER filed suit in circuit court

Tuesday for $5000 damages.COLLIER charges MacCARIO cursed him after the

accident and threatened him with assault unless the $5 was paid.He asks $5000

for injuries received when thrown from the wagon by the collision and for the

verbal assault.The incident occurred on Millington Road in December.

MRS JEWELL NELSON--filed suit for divorce in circuit court Tuesday against

J.C.NELSON,charging cruelty and desertion.She states they were married in

Cherry Valley,Ark.,in February,1920.She asks the custody of their child,a boy.

MISS MARGARET GILLESPIE--17,popular Central High School student,died Monday

night at Baptist hospital of spinal meningitis,resulting from a fall when she

fainted in the bathroom of her home January 2nd.She is survived by her

parents,MR.& MRS.L.A.GILLESPIE; four sisters,MRS.ANNA BELLE RIGGABEE,

MRS.W.D.BURTON and MISSES ALBERTA & PATTIE GILLESPIE; and four brothers,R.E.

GILLESPIE, M.W.GILLESPIE,ALLEN GILLESPIE and H.I.GILLESPIE. Funeral services

will be held at the residence,909 Philadelphia Wednesdy.

FRANK O.DAVIS--32,who has admitted he is wanted in ten cities on various

swindling charges,is held by police here as a fugitive from justice.He was

arrested at the Claridge,where he is said to have been posing as a circus

agent.

J.M.WELKER--former night watchman,who shot and killed a negro several months

ago while on a drunken spree,will be tried for first degree murder in first

criminal court Wednesday.WELKER entered a restraurant drunk while on duty and

went to sleep according to WILL GERBER,assistant attorney general.The

negro,noticing WELKER's watch and gun hanging out of his pockets,took them and

put them in a safe.He returned both when WELKER awoke.The nught watchman

became angry and killed the negro as the negro left the restauarant.

SUIT FOR $5000 DAMAGES--was filed Tuesday in circuit court by ALLEN I.COLLINS

and his minor son,against ARTHUR DEPISANO for property loss and injuries

received in an auto accident several months ago.COLLINS alleges

DEPISANO,driving a large auto,crashed into the small car he was driving on the

road to Tiptonville,Tenn.COLLINS said his auto was demolished and he and his

son were injured.

NAB THREE DRUGGISTS--charging the sale of too much paregoric,violating the

naroctic law Thursday.M.L.BULLOCK,39,employed at Liberty Drug Co.,1288 Florida

St.; W.F.GRIFFIN,34,Proprietor of GRIFFIN DRUG Store,577 Mississippi; and

T.H.GARNETT,negro druggist at South Memphis Drug Company,were the ones

arrested.

ELLIS DAVIS--negro,city employee,will probably be docketed sometime Wednesday

for the murder of PAUL BROWNE,50,at 740 Galloway av.and for assault on

MRS.FANNIE MILLER,49, BROWNE'S housekeeper last Thursday night.DAVIS has been

identified by MRS.MILLER. BROWNE has been lending money to negroes at 25

percent interest,MRS.MILLER says and had cut DAVIS off from further loans.

HERE AND THERE IN MEMPHIS--MISSES THEDDIE KINNEY and BEATRICE BOND of

Brownsville,Tenn.,are guests of MR.& MRS.R.L.O'DANIEL at their home 1631

Kenilworth Pl. MRS.HUGER LABOURISSE and little daughter,EMILY, of

Charlotte,N.C. left Monday night after the holidays with her sister,MRS.SIDNEY

FARNSWORTH. MISS RUTH PARKER,formerly of Memphis,now of Detroit,is guest of

her sister,MRS.W.H.BRIGGS. MRS.RINDA McLAUGHLIN has returned from New York

City where she visited her daughter,MISS VELMAROSE McLAUGHLIN,who is in a

dance revue.

NEWPORT,ARK.JAN.11--SAM WORLEY,member of Newport High football team,had his

right leg amputated above the knee Saturday at a Little Rock hospital.The

youth suffered an accident to his kneein the first game of last season.Every

effort was made to save the leg.

TIPTON COUNTY SQUIRE IS DEAD.COVINGTON,TENN.JAN.11--SQUIRE J.C.WALKER,51,was

found dead in his room in Covington Monday,the cause of his death being heart

failure.He had been troubled with his heart for sometime,but it was not

considered serious.He went to his room Sunday night and seemed well.SQUIRE

WALKER had for many years been a member of the Tipton County Court.He was a

veteran of the Spanish-American war,having served as captain.He had been

connected with several business houses here.He is survived by his wife,MRS.PET

MAY WALKER; one daughter,JULIA MAY WALKER,both of Calif.He is also survived by

his mother,MRS.ELLEN WALKER,of Covington; a brother,MAYOR M.A.WALKER,of

Covington;and by a sister,MRS.LINNIE WOMBLE,of Thomaston,Ga.The funeral was

held at the home of his brother,MAYOR M.A.WALKER of Covington Tuesday

afternoon.Interment in Munford Cem.

COLDWATER,MISS.JAN.11--C.L.GRAHAM,of this place,who was injured in a cotton

gin in Duck Hill,Miss.,about six weeks ago,has recovered and returned to

work.His left arm was caught in a belut.He is manager of the gin where the

accident occurred.

MERIDIAN,MISS.JAN.11--Two families are suffering with ptomaine

poisoning,caused by food combinations.REV.J.L.FISHER,his wife,three children

and a dinner guest were taken ill after dinner as a result of eating canned

peaches and whipped cream.The other family was that of G.N.MOORE,his wife and

daughters.

BLYTHEVILLE,ARK.JAN.11--B.B.BROWN,who resides near Dell,broke his leg when

struck by an automobile as he was attempting to walk around a wagon.The

accident occurred near his home.

BOLIVAR,TENN.JAN.11--WALTER CASEY,of Middleton,Tenn.,was fatally injured by a

falling tree while working near his home.He is survived by his wife and

several children.

SUMNAR,MISS.JAN.11--LOUIS BOLDEN,negro,was crushed to death between two logs

on the road near the plantation of J.J.WEBB,only a few miles from here Monday

afternoon.He was sitting on top of a load of logs.

HAZARD,KY--A man named PEACEFUL MORGAN,who lives on Willie Run,a small stream

contributing to the Kentucky river,has just been arrested for assault and

battery for the sixth time.He chased four men with a gun while drunk.

EXPENSIVE SWEET TOOTH--JACK HOWE,a negro,likes gum,so he stole a slot machine

from a store.He got a bulett through his arm from a policeman's gun and a

three-year term at Nashville prison.

GIRL TESTIFIES FOR DAD--A tiny five-year-old girl,with a tiny voice,sat in the

witness chair at the federal courtroom Wednesday and told about riding in the

auto in which her mother was killed near Marion,Ark.,nearly two years ago.She

told her story in behalf of her father,VAN G.FLOURNOY,who is suing the Gregory

Bus Line for damages to a total of $75,000.MRS.FRANCES D.FLOURNOY was killed

and FLOURNOY was injured badly on October 25,1925,when the Ford coupe in which

they were riding collided with the bus of the Gregory line.

KNOXVILLE,TENN.JAN.12--Forced to flee in their night clothing when their

palatial home caught fire,JAMES H.ANDERSON and his wife narrowly escaped death

early today.MRS.ANDERSON is in a hospital with a broken leg,sustained when she

jumped from a second story window to the icy ground.Her husband was burned

about the face.ANDERSON is a millionaire operator of Knoxville's largest

department store and a chain of other stores in this section.

FEDERAL JUDGE ROSS--was accidently killed when his auto went into a ditch near

Jackson,Tenn.,18 months ago,the court of appeals in Cincinnati declared

Wednesday.Judge Ross was drowned under his overturned auto in a water filled

ditch on the road in Jackson a short time after the failure of a Jackson

bank,in which he was interested.The insurance company contended that Judge

ROSS's death was suicide,and that the double indemnity clause of the $50,000

insurance policy was thereby void.Judge ANDERSON ruled otherwise and the

highest court backs him.

CLOVIS,N.M.JAN.12--GEORGE J.HASSELL,murderer of his wife and eight

children,must die by hanging.After killing all the members of his house with

an ax,HASSELL buried the bodies in the cellor of his home and lived in the

house a week before the wholesale murders were detected.

C.D.HOWELL--dope peddler,will go back to Atlanta to spend five years just as

Federal Judge ANDERSON decided.A fine of $2000 also was affirmed.Attorneys for

HOWELL appealed .HOWELL was arrested at 992 Courtland Ave in

November,1925,with nine deams of morphine in his possession.

DETECTIVE SERGT.WILBUR MAXWELL--was back at work Wednesday,after attending the

funeral of his brother,CHARLES EVERETT MILLER,49,mayor and businessman of

Augusta,who died Sunday.

DIVORCE PLEAS--SAM CARLISLEwent to work one morning after their elopment and

marriage in Marion,Ark.,MRS.JESSIE CARLISLE told Chancellor DeHAVEN

Wednesday,and asked a divorce as he never returned to their home at 136 Linden

Ave.

DIVORCE PLEAS--MEYER SUNDOCK began staying out all night nearly every night a

few months after their marriage,MRS.PEARL SUNDOCK charged in a divorce

petition she filed in circuit court for divorce.

DIVORCE PLEAS--MRS.IDA T.RICE filed a petition asking Chancellor DeHAVEN to

cite her husband,J.M.RICE,for contempt of court,alleging he has failed to pay

her maintenance of $25 a week,as ordered by the court,pending hearing of her

divorce petition.

MERIDIAN,MISS.JAN.12--MRS.R.L.BROWN,CLARICE BROWN,16 years,and LUCILE BROWN,15

years,wife and daughters of BOB BROWN,president of the Lauderdale County board

of supervisors,and MRS.ROY WILSON,all of Lauderdale,are in Turner's

Hospital,having been injured late Tuesday.The car in which they were riding

collided with one said to have been driven by CLIFTON HEMMING,16,son of MR.&

MRS.A.E.HEMMING,and grandson of CLIFF WILLIAMS,of this city.MRS.WILSON is more

seriously injured than the others.

BLYTHEVILLE,ARK.JAN.12--MISS FRANCES RHEA and O.K.PRICE were married

here,REV.PETERS performing the ceremony.MRS.PRICE is the daughter of MR.&

MRS.W.T.RHEA and has lived in this city all her life.PRICE is associated with

the Courier News.

BLYTHEVILLE,ARK.JAN.12--MRS.ADA COHEN,of this city and ISRAEL STRAUCH of

Memphis,were married in Memphis.

HUNTINGDON,TENN.JAN.12--MAURINE SNEED and MISS GERTRUDE HADDOCK,both of the

McKenzie community<have announced their marriage kept secret since August

24.The ceremony was said at the home of SQUIRE J.W.COOK in McKenzie.the

bridgegroom is the son of MR.& MRS.J.K.SNEED and the bride is the daughter of

MR.& MRS.BEN HADDOCK.

RIPLEY,TENN.JAN.12--Two youths are in the Baptist hospital,Memphis recovering

from injuries suffered in horse and wagon accidents Tuesday. GEORGE

DANIEL,22,of Ripley,was injured early Tuesday when a heavy wagon ran over

him.DANIEL was driving and riding a mule at the time.The mule stumbled and

fell.DANIEL toppled from his back and under the wagon wheels.Hospital attaches

were determining if any bones are fractured. HENRY

FARRELL,18,Hornsby,Tenn.,was bruised when his horse threw him at Henning,Tenn.

WHITESBURG,KY.JAN.12--MRS.MILLIE COMBS,30,was shot and killed while trying to

seoarate two men in a fight,according to word reaching here from Darby

Fork.The men were scuffling over a pistol when MRS.COMBS intervened and was

shot.

SENATOBIA,MISS.JAN.12--SAMUEL D. WOLF,who has reached four score years and

five on life's pathway, filed suit against his wife, who is 82. SAMUEL D.WOLF is

a Union soldier. He fought four years to preserve the Union, enlisting in the

Federal army in Kentucky. His wife,then a young wife,sympathized with the South

in its fight for State rights. When WOLF returned from the army,his wife did

not receive him with open arms. WOLF,in his bill for divorce,alleges she

deserted him. In her answer,she states WOLF deserted her. They separated and

MRS.ALMA WOLF hasn't seen her husband in 50 years. WOLF came South. Fifty years

ago,he came to the hills of eastern Tate co.,where he has lived in peace with

his Southern neighbors. A few years ago the Federal government gave WOLF a

pension for his services. He gets $75 a month. His wife,who remained in their

home in Ky.,learned where her husband was living,and filed a claim with the

government for half of his stipend. This brought on new trouble. WOLF filed his

suit for separation from bead and board. WOLF says he will fight the case to

the end, and that it is an injustice to the flag that he fought for to have a

Southern sympathizer draw money from the Federal government. The case was set

to be heard in November,but both were too feeble to attend court. It has been

reset for March.

DYERSBURG,TENN.JAN.12--FREDDIE MAE FISHER made an unsuccrssful attempt to take

her life Monday night by swallowing three poison tablets.She is in a hospital

here,after having been taken from the Dyer county jail,where she had been

locked up on charges of aiding the assault on a 13- year-old girl.

RIDGELY,TENN.JAN.12--LOUISE CAMPBELL,5,daughter of MR.& MRS.WRENN CAMPBELL,was

drowned when she fell off the back porch of the CAMPBELL home,about three

miles west of Ridgely,into the backwater,from the Mississippi River,which was

about five feet deep.

SELMER,TENN.JAN.12--A.C.LEA,former mayor and postmaster of Selmer,died in

Boulder,Colo.,and his body will be sent to Selmer for burial.

LITTLE ROCK,ARK.JAN.12--The Arkansas supreme court Monday ordered a new trial

in the case of R.E.CORNELIUS,convicted of killing R.B.McKNIGHT last summer.

GUY E.JOINER--35,of 1720 Harbert Ave will answer charges of reckless driving

and assault and battery in city court on Wednesday as a result of an accident

Tuesday night in which A.D.BYRD,13,of 615 Gibson pl was seriously

injured.JOINER was arrested by Motorcycle Patrolman R.A.FAUGHT,who was

following JOINER's auto.

POLICE WEDNESDAY--were investigating the accident in which

R.E.O'KEEFE,plantation manager of Earle, Ark., was killed when his auto crashed

head-on into a moving street car at Fountain St and McLemore Av.

MRS.SUSIE PHILLIPS; brother of W.A.PHILLIPS of Nashville; P.T.PHILLIPS of Los
