Located on West Main Street in Bradford, Tennessee.  This is the largest cemetery within a few miles' radius of Bradford.

From City Hall, go west down Main Street.  It will meet the old Hwy. 45.  From there, turn right onto old Hwy. 45.  Then turn left down West Main Street. The cemetery is down this road on the right. It is very visible from the road and has a large sign near the entrance.

This cemetery is divided into two sections by the road which goes through it.  There is a new section and a much older section.  The road goes straight into the cemetery and then splits in two.  These two roads meet at the back to form a complete loop around the older section.  The oldest section of the cemetery is on a hill.

A few frequently occurring surnames here are BELEW, LANNOM, HAY(E)S, DAVIDSON, PARTICK, WILLIAMS, CAMPBELL, and GRIFFIN.

 

The land for this cemetery was provided by James Baker.  The following information was gotten from "A Pictorial History of Kimball Later to Become Known As Bradford, Tennessee" by Ernest Pounds:

    For the use and purposes of a burying ground I, this day convey to the Baptist Church at Bradford Tenn the following Lot or parcel of Land in the county of Gibson and State of Tenn and in the District No 14 of Said county Known: and bounded as follows.  Beginning on F. L. Bryants North Boundary line a Stake Runs North 11 poles to a black oak, 2 Black oak pointers thence West with a south baring 18 poles to a white oak and maple pointers thence southwest 8 poles to a Black oak Red Elm & Post Oak pointers thence east 18 poles to the beginning for the use and purpose the above conveyance is made and I James M. Baker do give to the baptist Church at Bradford for the above mentioned purpose and none other than above described parcel.

Before you begin reading the transcription or looking for your familiar family names, let me inform you that Bradford Cemetery is unique in that the Negro and White Sections are not divided by a line of demarcation.  The blacks tend to bury their loved ones toward the back of the cemetery in its older section.  If you encounter the surname "Street" or "Burks," chances are it is a black grave.
