Sunday Aug 31st was a great day for Mrs. Mollie King, who reached her 91st birthday, Monday Sept 1st 1952. Her family decided to honor her in a Big way and invited all her relatives to meet at Old Bethlehem Church - - her Church throughout her whole life, and the Church of most of her descendants.
Seven children, 24 grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren were present. The King Clan came - 156 in all. Some who had not seen each other in 40 years, some who had never seen each other - back to the little Church whose memory had remained vivid through the passing years.
In the shade of the great trees on the Church lawn, the great table was laden with the best cookery of the Old and New South. A barbecue dinner was supplemented by all sorts of dainties, packed in baskets. The lovely three-tiered angel food cake was the handiwork of a grandson's wife, Mrs. Benson King and her sister Mrs. Carmack Kemp. The cake was truly a work of art, fashioned in pink and white and inscribed with "Happy Birthday at 91".
The afternoon was spent in conversation and in pleasant reminiscences of the past by the oldsters.
Among the older invited guests were "Uncle Mon" Barner, Mr. Bill Hallford and Mrs. Cora King. Among the family from other points were Mrs. Egbert Wright and Helen, Mr. Gerald King, Nashville; Mr. and Mrs. George E. King, Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Whitehorn and son, Mrs. Mildred Johnson and daughter of Memphis: Lyle King and son of Milan; Clifton Johnson and family of Heloise, Tenn.; Mr. and Mrs. Billy Warren and daughter of Humboldt.
Her children who attended were Will, Dave, Clyde, George and Fay of Rutherford; Charlie of Dyer and Mrs. Vergie Hanks of Neboville.
