Monday, Jan. 1

This was a very cold day indeed.

I have a very bad cole staid at home & dressed dolls and took medicin, read the Christian Guide. Iola gave Lizzie Bland lessons in Medalien, then went to see Mr. Phares as she was packing to go to Mississippi on a visit to her mother. Lizzie Blanks spent the day. Robert spent the day with Scott. Lula, Cicero, Lonnie & Lizzie came in. Willie came and brought a letter from Sallie. Rose Blackwood came to hear from Sallie. Mrs. Jim Jones came by awhile. Dr. helped Will load George.

Tuesday, Jan. 2

The weather moderated some.

Mr. Cockroft came in from Bolivar. I spent the most of the forenoon in reading my religious papers. Iola & Lizzie Blanks worked on the Medilen painting. Elic & Will went to Trezevant with two loads of Georges(Blanks) household goods. Dr. had the first car of machinery halled to the stor today. Mary came from school sick. Iola & I went to Fannie Arnetts to meet with the Sewing Circle. Lizzie & Iola went to Mrs. Grishings to get her to count Lizzies chickens as she had bought them. Dr. went to see Mary. Belle Dickey Williams returned from New Orleans. Mrs. Pharis went to see her mamma.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

Lula received a letter from Sallie. We are all well except colds. Lizzie Blanks left for Trezevant today. I went to Lulas to tell her of Mary being too sick for Willie to help her sew. Came home and helped Iola make a calico rapper then to see Florence and Will Mc. babe. All sick folks. Iola sent for me as Mada Heart had come to spend the night or to take supper. Sister Alice & Annie came from the train here for supper. Annie, Iola, Mada & Dr. went to prayer meeting. Alice and I staid at home as we were not well. brother Pharis came in a while and Dr. went to see Mary after prayer meeting. The weather had moderated and is pretty.

Thursday, Jan. 4

I have bad cole. I wrote to Sallie and sent letter, book or diary of last year. Dr. went to Willie sat bed time to see Mary. I finished Iolas rapper. Mary was very sick called in Dr. Cherry. Telephoned to several places for Albert but could not find him. Dr. spent the most of the day with Mary. Iola, sister Alice and Annie went to see Florence Barham then took dinner with Willie. Iola then went to see Mattie Brown and Alice and Annie went to town then to Lulas. Annie spent the night with Estell Brown. Alice with us. A crowd met at our house to study S.S. lesson and sing. Mrs. Shoemate came to see us after supper.

Friday, Jan. 5

This is a warm day with a little sprinkle of rain. Dr. not very self tonight. I spent the most of this morning with Mary. Sister Alice went with me. I came home and cooked dinner for Annie, Eula, Mr. Karns, Allen, sister Alice and our family. After dinner I wrote to Sallie and took care of Eulas babe for her to get her things aranged for keeping house. Lula came. I talked to Albert at Humbolt by the Tellephone telling him of Mary sicknes. Iola spent this afternoon and night with Willie. Annie and Alice went to Yorkville.

Saturday, Jan. 6

The yard was muddy. I made two white flannel skirts for Lula, spent the forenoon with Mary who was still very sick with pneumonia. There was a great many calling to see her. Albert came up on the 2:30 train to help wait on Mary. Beatrice and Mr. Cockroft went to Dyersburg. Iola sat up with Mary. Then spent the afternoon there. Dr. spent the most of the day with Mary. Dr. wrote a letter to Sallie about Mary tonight. Cicero canvased Newbern for a cook but failed to get one. This was a bright day.

Sunday, Jan. 7

This day was very pleasant but the ground muddy. After morning work Dr. & I went to see Mary while there she had a hemorage from the lung which had pneumonia and it was a frightful sight. We came home and Charley Allen came in. We then went to S.S. and staid to preaching. After dinner Dr. & Iola went to see Mary. Eula and Verginia Pace came in with the babe. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Eula & I went to Willies. Lula sat up. so we all went to hear brother Phares preach on the old & new year.

Monday, Jan. 8

Mollie Brown boy was born this morning. I went to see Lula and did some sewing for her, came home & cooked some dinner. Then went to see Mary, came home and made two skirts for Lula. Dr. went to look for a cook. Iola helped to cook some cakes at Willies. Mr. Hopper took the keys to Georges house to move in by the month. Brother Phares came to see us. Mr. Cockroft came to use the phone. Quite a no.(number) called to see Mary today. She was a little better of the pneumonia. Albert in fine spirits as is Willie over Mary being better.

Tuesday, Jan. 9

I was a litte sick and took calomel. I mended cloaths all the morning, in the afternoon the Sewing Circle met at our house. Willie Rodgers gave blocks to be filled for a quilt, so we did that and tacked rags.. Iola went to town in this morning to do some traiding for Lula and stoped by to see Mollie Browns new boy. After we were adjourned brother Phares came in on his way to take supper with John Lancaster. One train ran into another and killed the fireman. Dr. rented Georges house to Mr. Hopper at 5 dollars per month. Mary better.

Wednesday, Jan. 10

It rained. I went to see Mary and helped Willie set a quilt together. Beatrice came in to see us in the afternoon. Iola went to Lulas. Mr. Cockroft family began taking meals with us. Mary much better. Cousin Jack Garrsit & son Jimmie came in to spend the night. After supper Jack went to see brother Moody and we all went to prayer meeting a good time.

Thursday, Jan 11

This was Mattie Blanks birthday. I mad lining for a quilt for Sallie and in the afternoon Iola, Eula & I put it in the frames. Cousin Jack & son spent the night and day as it was raining all day & they could not travel. Dr. went to town to buy the cotten and thread. I went to Lulas just a little while in the afternoon. Iola worked on a doily for Sallie. It rained all day.

Friday, Jan. 12

Willie helped us quilt a while in the morning. Iola, Eula and I quilted on a quilt for Sallie. Cousin Jack and Jimmie went home . Otis Phares is very sick. I sent his dinner. Hung six hams & shoulders 3 middlings & 2 - 3 jaws. Iola went to Lulas in the afternoon. Mrs. Karns had sick headacke. After supper we all met a no. of others at Mr. Grishens to sturdy S. S. lesson & sing had a good time Dona Hudgins went to have some teeth pulled and the whisky the Dr. gave made her drunk. This was bright pretty day.

Saturday, Jan. 13

Iola and I spend the morning baking and getting dinner. Alice Jones came in a while. Eula, Beatrice & Iola made fancy candy after dinner then went to Lulas. Received one letter from George one from Mr. Reeves. Emett had a chill. Mr. Cockroft and Lonnie went to Bogoda to get his hogs. This was a very beautiful day. I bought 1/2 bushel of hickory nuts from Milans Sallie.

Sunday, Jan. 14

After getting our dinner near ready we all went to S.S. After dinner I went to see the sick folks, Mollie Brown and Effie Newbern. All of us met in the parlor to sing some songs. Lulas folks and Eulas. Iola and Willie went to see Mary. We have been having some beautiful weather for several days. I even saw Brother Phares went to Halls.

Monday, Jan. 15

John Douglas ran off with brother Cooks daughter to the Peabody hotel and was married. After getting breakfast for mine and Mr. Cockrofts family, cleaning up & c(such)., I quilted four shells on Sallies quilt then cooked dinner for the same persons. After dinner Rose Blackwood came by and we went to see Florence Barham & Dank McCorkles wife who had been down for fourteen weeks. Came home and cook supper, then went to see Ford Porters wife and little babe. Dr. Mc went with me. I met Ruby Porter there from Tex.

Tuesday, Jan. 16

Clifford Lockheart married Miss Jourden(?). Cooked breakfast for the two families, then quilted five shells on Sallies quilt. Cooked dinner and after dinner met with the sewing circle at Mrs. Ridings. Willie came by and brought Mary & Maggie, then went to town. After supper Dr. and I went to brother Phares to see Otis who was sick, came home and wrote to Maurine, Olie May, George and Lizzie.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

We finished Sallies quilt. Sister Alice & Annie came from Yorkville, took dinner with Eula. Mr. Karns & Allen went to Yorkville. Willie & Iola went to town to do some traiding for Lula. After binding the quilt I worked some for Lula. All went to prayer meeting had a good time. subject: What would Jesus do. Came home and Dr. was sent for to go and stay with Willie as she and Denas was sick.

Thursday, Jan. 18

It rained all day. Iola and I made pillow cases and bolster cases until noon. Then I sewed some for Lula and drew threads in three napkins. Sister Alice took dinner with us. There was excitement about smallpox some at Trimble, Roellen & Dyersburg. Emett cleaned out the stables to day with Lonnie to help. Mr. Karns brought us a barrel of flower from Yorkville on his rent. The school was examined and Emett mad high grades.

Friday, Jan. 19

Sister Alice went to the train in our buggy Eula drove the horse for her as it was raining all day. Iola and I made some new napkins. Beatrice came over and she & Iola went to see Florence Barham. Willie came over and told us that she had turned off Dena and she had gone to Nell Parks. Willie & Iola went to Lulas.

Saturday, Jan. 20

It was raining but Iola went to see Willie then came in time to help about dinner and bake a cake for Sunday. In the afternoon we darned and mended all the afternoon. Lulas children wer here. Lonnie went in the cistern and washed it out. John and Emett helped him. Iola & Willie went to see. Albert came at night. Recieved a letter from Sallie saying whe would put in her church letter at Sherman.

Sunday, Jan. 21

This was a pretty day but cold. We all went to S.S. and preaching. Dr. McConnell took dinner with us. I sent Mattie Brown some dinner by Emett.. After dinner Eula came in and we cracked hickory nuts and had a good time. At night we all went to preaching and left Scott with Lula. Brother Phares came home with us to talk a while. Mattie Romine was at church for the first time in a long time.

Monday, Jan. 22

This was a beautiful day. After morning work & getting up cloaths, Iola went to Lulas and I read Acts & Romans and sturdied the S.S. lesson. Mary, Willie, Maggie and Ludith took dinner with us. Otis Phares came for some sweet milk for brother Phares as he was sick. In the afternoon Iola & Willie went calling.

I worked on a splasher and went to see Fannie Arnett as she was sick. Everyone being vaxinated.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

After morning work I went to see Fannie Arnetts sick babe and Iola went to get Willie to go with her to town to have some teeth pluged. At eleven a fire alarm was given of brothers Moodies house. This street was soon full of people. After twelve I went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Grishens. Iola had five teeth filled then came to the circle. We the sisters gave a contribution to Elic as Will McCorkles family. This was a very pretty day. We mad napkins after supper.

Wednesday, Jan. 24

It turned cold but was a bright day. Eula staid with Mrs. Garritt. Early in the morning I went to see all the sick at Camp Arnett and worked on Lulas dress for the stranger. Came home and cooked dinner. In the afternoon I made some buttonholds and sewed on buttons for Lula. Mrs. Tom Park was brought in on the train and carried to Mrs. Prathers on a cot. The sister of the church filled a box of eatables for Dank McCorkles sick folks. Iola spent the afternoon with Lula to help sew. Brother Whitten baptist minister called to see us. We all went to prayer meeting at night.

Thursday, Jan.. 25

I first did some work for Lula after morning work. After getting dinner I worked buttonholds for Lula, then helped pack Sallies things to be sent to Tex. Mrs. Williams called late in the afternoon. There was a fine minstral in town. Emett & Cicero went. After supper Dr. & I went to see Camp Arnett as he was sick. Mr. & Mrs. Self was there. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Eula helped Iola get supper as Mrs. Williams was here. It turned cole but was clear and bright.

Friday, Jan. 26

The day was cold but bright. I spent the morning in reading The Ladies Home Journal & Christian Standard. In the afternoon I cut a wrapper for Willie. Mag Finis came to see us while I was gone to Willies. Came home and cooked supper. After supper we all went to Mrs. Arnetts to the singing and sturdy of S.S. lesson. Brother Phares came with Hattie Sharp & Marshall went home with her. Iola painted on a picture in the afternoon.

Saturday, Jan. 27

I worked on Willies rapper, cooked for Sunday. Iola made chockolate cake. Dr. had some hands and cleaned out the store. In the afternoon we sent Sallies pianour and other things to the depot to be shiped to Sherman, Tex. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Scott was taken sick at Lulas and she sent for Iola he was sick all night something like congestion of the stomacke. After supper we all read, baithed and retired. This was a cold cloudy day. Recieved a letter from Sallie.

Sunday, Jan. 28

It snowed until dinner. Dr. & I went to S.S. It snowed hard until twelve oclock. There was a good crowd out. Iola staid at home with Scott as he was sick. Brother Whitten came with Lulas folks to take supper with us. Lonnie was too sick to go to S.S. Brother Whitten preached at the Baptist Church. We all staid at home with Scott. Eula and Mr. Karns went Yorkville.

Monday, Jan. 29

This was a cold day. I cleaned and pressed all of Dr. cloaths in the forenoon, in the afternoon I made three quilt lining for the sewing circle. Ada Riding came to help put in the quilt and spent the evening. Mr. Drummons died today. I hired Aunt Martha to begin the 30 of Jan. to cook for $1.00 per week. Iola painted all the afternoon on the negro picture.

Tuesday, Jan. 30

This was a cold day. Allie Steel, Iola & I put a quilt in the frames for the circle in the forenoon. At twelve I wrote a letter to Sallie, at one or two they all came to quilt and we had a good. Mr. Drummons was buried at Rehobeth today. After supper Iola & I went to Mattie Browns and sat with her until bedtime. Came home and wrote two letters one to Ollie May & Maurine and one to Sallie.

Wednesday, Jan. 31

I went to Lulas in the morning as Beatrice & Robert wer sick. Came home and wrote a letter to Olie May & Maurine. Finished one to Sallie. Iola painted all the morning. In the afternoon several came in to finish the quilt. We finished and and bound it. Sent two to town to be sold. After supper we all went to prayer meeting & brother Phares came home with us. This was a cold day & night.

Thursday, Feb. 1

Weather not so cold. Willie and children took dinner with us. Elic McCorkle came in and was telling of his troubles and I wrote two letters to his sister and brother to help him in taking care of his old aged father & sick mother. Iola went to Lulas to see her sick folks, painted in the afternoon. Gentry McCorkle came in and sat a while just from Tex. Iola went to see Mr Grishens folks, sick with their vaxinated arms then to Willies to spend the night. Dr., Emmett & I staid at home and read.

Friday, Feb. 2

I spent the morning in mending and reading. Went to see the sick in the afternoon. Eula went with me. Iola & Willie went to brother Phares to clean his house preparetory to the coming of his wife who is visiting in Mississippi. Williams children spent the night. I staid at home with them and Willie, Iola & Dr. went to the singing. Hattie Sturdivant was thought to be dying with with smallpox to day. the weather bright an pleasant.

Saturday, Feb 3

This day was nice but rained at night After cooking, churning, & I mad Willie two cook aprons, did some mending, cleaning and reading, finished a letter to Sallie. Mrs. Phares came home from a visit to her mother in Mississippi. Iola & Willie went to see her. Hattie Strudivant died of small pox at Trimble today. Emmett Harris suffering from vaxination very much today. Great excitement in Kentucky, the governer was shot. Goble is his name.

Sunday, Feb 4

This day was cold & cloudy a little rain Saturday night. After morining getting all things ready we went to church & S S. Cousin Finis & Gentry came took dinner with us. In the afternoon Iola & Willie went to see Ester & Florence at Mrs. Grishen. Gentry went to see Willie and spent the night. Hattie Sturdivant was brought here from Trimble and buried at church grove. There was very great excitement in Newbern about the smallpox.

Monday, Feb. 5

Gentry went back to Texas. The forenoon I spent in reading in the afternoon I cut & tacked carpet rags. Iola painted in the afternoon, went to see Fannie Arnett about the quilt being put in at her house. Recieved a pillow to cure catarrh and paid 3.00 for it to Mrs. William. Dr. had a new floor mad in his store house. This was a clear cool day. Mr. Karns hung his meat. I turned off my cook. Martha Hix and Iola & I do the cooking again.

Tuesday, Feb. 6

Mrs. Grishen, Fannie Arnett and myself framed a quilt at Fannies for the sewing circle. Came home and cooked dinner then went to help quilt in the afternoon. There was quite a no. out but we failed to get the quilt out. The day was pleasnt and bright. Dr. scolded & hung ten hams & three shoulders, five jaws after supper. Dr. & I went to see Sister Oglisby who was sick came home and read a letter from Sallie. Iola staid at home with Scott & Emett.

Wednesday, Feb 7

An unusual heavy rain fall to day very warm weather. After usual morning work I went to Lulas & helped her to make Beatrice a new dress. Came home cooked dinner, then went to help quilt at Fannies finished it all came home cooked supper then went to prayer meeting, came home & wrote a letter to Sallie. Allen Karns was quite sick two days. Iola finished painting the negro.

Thursday, Feb. 8

This is a very cold night. It rained almost constant until twelve oclock. Dr. had three hands and worked all afternoon unloading a car of goods for Albert & himself. Iola painted the most of the day, went to Mrs. Grishens in the afternoon. I staid at home cooked and cut carpet rags. Brother Phares came late but did not stay long. Willie & the children came. at night it turned very cold. Dr. went to Willies after supper. Iola, Emett & I read until bedtime.

Friday, Feb. 9

This a clear cool day. Opened a new barrel of flower bought of Mr. Karns today. I cut and tacked rags all this morning. At night we all went to Ada Ridings to sturdy SS lesson & singing. Then Lula & I came by and stoped at Mrs. Arnett to a partie and helped cut cake and wait on the table. Iola was out trying to sell ticketts on a set of dishes. Dr. was busy with several hands putting up goods in the store.

Saturday, Feb. 10

This was a bright cool day. I tacked rags and made a ball in time to cook dinner. In the afternoon Iola went to town to have my board check cashed & pay off grocery bills. Mrs. Phares came to see us. Mr. Cockroft filled his two cisterns from our hydron. Dr. still busy putting in goods. Emett helped as it was Saturday. I mad another ball while I was resting. I had Old aunt Mary to make my homony on the shares.

Sunday, Feb. 11

This was a good day. This morning at 3:30 oclock a little girl(Thelma Lucille Cockroft) was born to Lula & Mr. Cockroft. I spent the night with them, came home & cooked breadfast, went to SS & communion. After dinner Beatrice Grishen came Mr. Oglisby, Albert & Willie. I wrote to Lizzie & Olie May & Sallie. After supper I went to see the little babe, came home and read. This was dray day. Iola spent the night with Lula.

Monday, Feb. 12

Iola came home from Lulas with a bad headache. I did the work then went to Lulas, dressed her and the bed, took a list of dirty cloaths. Came home and cooked dinner. Afternoon I read & finished a letter to Sallie. Brother & sister Phares came in also Beatrice Grishin, Bettie Maud Burnie came to see Iola. Emett Harris had a chill. Aunt Amy came to stay with Lula and the little babe at three dollars per week. It rained all day. I sent a letter to Lizzie Blanks Matties little girls. Iola was sick all day. Eula found Williams ring that had been lost 7 years in the the back yard.

Tuesday, Feb. 13

After finishing up the morning work, I went to Lulas & combed her head & mad button holds & c.(such?). Came home & cooked dinner, went to brother Phares tomeet & work with sewing circle. Iola & Willie went to town and spent the afternoon trading & setting accounts. Iola then went to sell some tickets on some dishes. Rec a letter from Sallie saying the pianno reached her in good order and all the things sent her wer not damaged. This was a bright pretty day.

Wednesday, Feb. 14

I read all this morning after getting through with morning work. In the afternoon went to see Lula. Mrs. Grishin & Allie Steel was here a while. Bob Scott was here and eat dinner with Eula. Iola & Willie went out calling and tradeing. Called to see George McConnels wife & others. This was a bright cool day. Dr. & Emett & I went to prayer meeting. Iola staid at home. I went to see Lula.

Thursday, Feb. 15

Iola went to Lulas in the morning. Cousin Jenett McCorkle spent the day with Eula & I. After dinner she & I went see Lula. Cousin Hiram came for her at Lulas. Rose Blackwood came in the morning to get thread to work a pillow sham for the circle. Beatrice Grishen came to order groceries. I read when I had no company. The weather turned very cold. Burt Garrett and Miss Latimore married and went to Obion.

Friday, Feb. 16

Iola & I staid at home and made pillow & bolster cases all day as there is a snow on the ground and the weather very cold. Brother Phares married Miss Dora Bolton to Mr. Gilkin her brothers tried to prevent it came with pistols in hand. The officer of the town told him to get out of town as soon as possible an older brother came in the afternoon very much hurt but after being talked to became more calm and at nine oclock they wer married. A crowd came here after supper to sturdy SS lesson & sing songs. It was very cold but the room was full.

Saturday, Feb. 17

I awakened with headache this morning had it all day. This was the coldest day of the winter so far. Rose Blackwood came to get Iola to help draw a patron. Iola went to see Lula. Eula made a plaster for Lulas brest as it was about to rise. Emett worked at the store until dinner then worked at the house. Dr. wrote for licens to sell goods in Newbern with Albert Rodgers. Dr. went to see Lula after supper.

Sunday, Feb. 18

The weather bright and cold. We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares preach. Emet Arnett, Will Radford, Otis Phares took dinner with Emett Harris. I was not looking for them. In the afternoon Iola and I went to see Lula. Dr. went to town, Eula & Mr. Karns came in and sat a while. Lula received a letter from Sallie & Fannie Wheary of Yorkville.

Monday, Feb. 19

After getting through with work at home I went to Lulas and washed and dressed her and bed. Came home wrote to Sallie, cooked dinner. Then read some, made a ball of carpet filling. Brother Morgin a christian minister took supper and spent the night with us. The man that lost a boy and never saw him for ten years. This day was bright but cold. Snow still on the ground.

Tuesday, Feb. 20

I read the most of the morning. We all went to Mr. Skinners in the afternoon to meet the circle. I stoped to see Mrs. Kinkle, Mrs. Moore and Bess & Ellen, was so very tired. I could not go to the singing at Mrs. Grishens after supper A Christian preacher by the name of Morgin of Ky spent the night with us.

Wednesday, Feb. 21

After finishing morning work I did some mending cooked dinner with Lulas help then draw a scarf for the circle. Eula received a letter from Walter saying he had gained 25 lbs. I opened a can of lard to day. It rained and turned cold. We all went to hear brother Morgen preach in the rain. I drew the threads for a scarf for Circle. Old brother Lancaster was out to the church.

Thursday, Feb. 22

I worked on a scarf for the sewing circle, was not atall well. Iola went to Lulas. Willie went to see Prina Scoby who had pneumonia. News came that brother Lenod died today of heart failior at Dyer station. Ada Ridings came and promised to help me finish the scarf. Iola, Willie & Eula went to town trading. I staid and kept the babe. Emitt Harris had toothache. Dr. went to hear the hard shell baptist preach at our church. Methodish had a spelling match Iola went with the 6 children. Iola, Beatrice, Lonnie & Cicero went to ME. S. match.

Friday, Feb. 23

I went to Lulas after finishing up morning work, boithed the babe, mended Lonnies pants, mended and pressed Mr. Cockrofts pants. In the afternoon I worked on the scarf for the circle. Ada Ridings helped me. Iola & Eula went to see Prina Riceor Scoby who is down with pneumonia. The primative baptist preached three sermons in the Christian Church. Dr. & I went tonight. The house was full and we had good singing. After night it snowed in the night.

Saturday, Feb. 24

This is a bright pretty morning but very cold. I finished a scarf for the circle and went to get one from Mrs. Arnett to send to Memphis. I hired a negro to come and cook for us to begin Monday. Iola went to Willies to help her get ready to go to Memphis to attend Maudagra and hear Brain speak. Albert brought Willie a pare of diamond ear trops to wear to Memphis.

Sunday, Feb. 25

We all went to SS. Iola went to the C.P. church to hear Buckhannon preach several went with her. Frank Parks came home with Cicero to dinner. In the afternoon I went to see the sick Eula Harris, Sallie Dickey and Mackiz Shoemate. came home and went to see Eula Karns. After supper received a letter from Sallie. This was a bright cold day.

Monday, Feb. 26

I went to Lulas to get a list of her dirty cloaths came home and cooked dinner. After dinner I drew three napkins and Iola worked them. Gentry McCorkle came to see after the Obion Bank. Mrs. Tom Park died and her remains wer carried to Hickman. This was a bright cold day. Iola went to see Eula Harris. Brother Phares came from Gleson where he preached. My first chickens hatched today.

Tuesday, Feb. 27

Iola went to see Lula. News came that Ewin(John Ewing) McCorkle was very sick. Later news came he was dying. Iola went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Porters. I staid at home with the little children and tacked two balls of carpet filling for the circle. It rained in the latter part of the afternoon. Brother Phares came to see us and told of his pleasant trip to Gleason.

Wednesday, Feb. 28

Mr. Cockroft, Eula, Mrs. Karns & I went to John E. McCorkles to attend the funeral and burial of Ewin McCorkle. Elliu Scott conducted the service there was a large crowd not withstanding it rained all day. Iola staid at home & cooked dinner. We went to prayer meeting after supper and it was raining. Willie came home from Memphis in the night.

Thursday, Mar. 1

I spent the morning mending. Iola & I cooked dinner. In the afternoon I went to see the sick at Elic McCorkles & Gorden Barhams. Came home cooked supper and sent a chickin to Dank & wife who was sick. Iola & I then went to see sister Phares and sat until bed time to her. Willie was sick Dr. went.

Friday, Mar. 2

This was a bright pretty day. I went to see Willie in the forenoon as she was sick and to see Lula. Came home cooked dinner then went to see Esther Inman from then to settle with Mrs. Barker for Sallies sewing then to see Prina Scoby who had pneumonia. Iola, Mollie & Beatrice sat up with Prina. We all went to the singing at Mr. Grishens had a good time. Received pictures of Sallie and Mr. Reeves also a letter.

Saturday, Mar. 3

We mended until time to do baking and cooking for Sunday. In the afternoon Iola went with Cicero to find a cook for Lula. I staid at home to finish mending. Brothers Rodie(Rhodes Nash Clement) & Joe McCorkle came in to see me. Mr. Drury died of pneumonia today. Allen went home with brother Joe. Dr. staid at the store all day. I sent his dinner to him. This was a lovely day.

Sunday, Mar. 4

We all went to SS & to hear brother Phares preach on missions, took up collection for forign missions. Willie was too sick for Albert to go to church. I went to see Willie & Lula. Mr. Drury was buried at the cemetary. Lon Sturdivant married a Miss Hall today. This was a pretty bright day. Had a good crowd out to night.

Monday, Mar. 5

This is my 57 birthday. Willie gave me a nice pair of linen towels & baker for the stove. Lula a nice white counter pin(bedspread), Iola five yards of nice white lace. This was a pleasant day, rained a little & the wind blew after sundown. Iola went to town & to see Florence Barham then to see Willie then to see Lula, after supper went to spend the night with Willie as she was sick. I had a backache at night.

Tuesday, Mar. 6

I read all morning after finishing up morning work. After dinner Iola & I went to Willies to the sewing circle. Iola went to see Mrs. Dank McCorkle who was very low with comsumption(tuberculosis). I came home and cooked supper, made ready for Iola & I go to Mrs. Shoemakes, just then Pattie Shoemate came in and sat with us. Cicero came in and went home with her. Willie was sick and Dr. went to see her.

Wednesday, Mar. 7

I went to see Vergie Polk and Lula. Came home, cooked dinner for Lulas folks & ours, went to see Willie as she was sick then to see Aunt Nannie as they thought she was dying. Dr., Iola and I went to prayer meeting, came home and did some writing. Emett went to the show at the Opera house. Iola recieved an invertation to a mask partie at the Opera.

Thursday, Mar. 8

I worked on brother Rodies pants all the morning, after dinner he came to see me & I cut his hair & wrote a letter to Sallie & one to Olie May & Maurine. I was not well had pain in my stomache. Iola went to town to select Ciceros dress for the mascurad partie he & Hattie Shoemate to be dressed alike. Iola, Dr. & Emett went to the singing. This was a very pretty day. Mattie Brown came to see us.

Friday, Mar. 9

Dank McCorkles wife died this morning. They sent for Iola but I was sick and she could not go. Iola & I spent the most of the day making a mask suit for Cicero to go with Hattie May Shoemate represent two little girls in blue. Mrs. Shoemate came to help. Rose Blackwood came. Iola & Mrs. Ridings went to see the corpse, Dr. went after supper. Iola sat up half the night. This was a bright pleasant day. Sister Phares sat up.

Saturday, Mar. 10

This was also a very bright pretty day. Iola went to see Unas corpse off. Mrs. Allen Dunlap & Rose Blackwood came. I spent part of the day reading & mending, in the afternoon I cut four bonnetts for the sewing circle, had some peach trees set out by Emett Harris after he helped dig the grave. Iola made the cake & Lulas quit boarding with us Friday. They boarded two months. Emett went to a partie at Camps.

Sunday, Mar. 11

This is my brother Henries(Henry Clay Clement) birthday 59. We all went to SS. Dr. & I went to hear the new baptist preach Owin for the first time. After dinner we went to see brother Rodies folks, he met us crying. They had poped corn and cracked hickory nuts. Iola spent the afternoon with Lula. After supper she went to see sister Phares. This was a beautiful day.

Monday, Mar. 12

I went to see Lula a short time, then came home and wrote a letter to Eula and one to Sallie, in the afternoon Iola went to Rose Blackwoods to cut pieces for the circle. I went to Lulas & draw patrons for Zela. Iola deposited 49 dollars of board money and paid off grocery bills, bought some goods, towels, hank domestic. Emett cleaned the garden. Lulas cook moved in. This was a very beautiful pleasant day. Mr. Paterson began boarding with us.

Tuesday, Mar. 13

I spent the morning visiting the sick Mrs, Cora Townson, Mrs. Walker & Willie. In the afternoon we went to Bess Goodlaws to neet with the sewing circle. I stoped at the Palace Hotel to see Mrs. Inman, on my way home I stoped to see Mrs. Parker and she had been sent for to go to Ada Pardons, Allie and Pearl intertained me. This was a very pretty day.

Wednesday, Mar. 14

I made stifning for four bonnetts for the circle, then went to Mrs. Grishens & Mrs. Holts to give each a bonnett to make. In the afternoon I went to Willies and we mad a bonnett for the circle. Iola & sister Phares made one at brothers Phares. It snowed in the afternoon and at night. We all went to prayer meeting in the snow. There wer eleven out. Brother Joe came from Yorkville. We planted a few seed today.

Thursday, Mar. 15

I was sick all day. Iola did the work. It snowed or rained all day. Iola went to Lulas in the morning to get some carbollic acid for me, went after Scott in the afternoon. I was on bed most all day. Eula sat with us. Mr. Karns came in and brought me some headache medicin. It snowed all day & was vey cold.

Friday, Mar. 16

I worked on a bonnett for the circle, wrote a letter to Sallie & sent her five dollars to help her begin housekeeping a little. Iola went to see Lula and delivered a bonnett to Fannie Arnett. Ham Parks brought his bride in from Nashville, a Miss Jones. This was a very cold day ice and snow plenty. I was all right today.

Saturday, Mar. 17

This was a very cold morning. I patched all morning. In the afternoon went to Lula and patched for her, went to Mrs. Paces to deliver a bonnett made by the sewing circle for fifty cts. The class of singing and sturding SS met with us last night. The weather moderated this afternoon.

Sunday, Mar. 18

I finished up a letter to Sallie, mended some. After dinner I delivered a bonnett to Mrs. Arnett, then went to see the sick at Gorden Barhams, Mrs. Add Ayers gave her boy too much landmun(?) in a mistake for cough medicin and he died. Iola read Tempest & Shunshine and worked on a waist for Scott. Willie went visiting and after supper took heart trouble sent for medicine. This is a mistake of date with me . I forgot I had not filled Sunday page. (She did not enter the events of Sunday, so this should be an extension of Saturday's entries.)

Monday, Mar. 19

Iola spent the morning and took dinner with Willie. I staid at home and altered Iola green dress & mad stifning for two bonnetts. In the afternoon we all went to the meeting of the circle at Mrs. Steels. After we ajourned I went to Mrs. Gradsons and had her to help lay off a bonnett gown. Allen was very sick & they sent to get Dr. Sherel. Iola sat up with him. This morning was bright but cloudy & cold.

Tueaday, Mar. 20

Allen Karns has been very sick two days. Iola sat up with him. Today Mr. Karns went to Yorkville and Eula was taken very sick and Iola staid with her all day. Hiel McCorkle took dinner & supper with us. Ada Ridings came to help me make a bonnett. Allie Steel came to see Eula and boithed her feet and head. Received a letter from Sallie she had moved to housekeeping and had every room furnished nice. The Marshel was drunk today. This was a cool day but bright.

Wednesday, Mar. 21

Allen and Eula sick. I worked on a bonnett for circle and outlined some of the names on our friendship quilt. This was a very cold day. Willie spent the day with Callie Capell. Iola & I nursed Eula with sick headache and took care of her children. Company came in to see us. This was a cold day. Jammie Haskin

I went to Willies in the morning. Worked on a bonnett and names on the quilt. Eula and Allen both very sick. Sister Phares came Beatrice & others. I went to Lulas in the afternoon. This was cool day. We set a hen in the buggy shelter. Hiel McCorkle went back to Greenfield. I went to Mrs. Grishens in the afternoon on business. Worked on the names on my square.

Friday, Mar. 23

After getting through with our work and Eulas, I went to see Maggie as she was sick, then went to see Mrs. Shoemate and found her sick on bed. Came home and finished our dinner. I read all the afternoon until Emett came home, then cut irish potatoes and had him to plant them. After supper Dr. & I went to Mrs. Ridings to singing and sturdy of SS lesson. It rained a little in the afternoon.

Saturday, Mar. 24

Maggie still sick. Dr. Sherrel with her every day. I worked on the names some and varnished the beds in the morning. In the afternoon I went to see Maggie and helped Willie mend clouths. I was suffering all day from rumatism. Cicero was taken. brother Phares folks was sick. It was raining some.

Sunday, Mar. 25

We all went to SS. I came home and Iola and Dr. stoped to see Cicero. Maggie still sick. Beatrice Grishen was sick and had to telephon for Dr. Sherrel to come to see her. Iola & Dr. went to see Maggie.

The sun shone bright in the afternoon. It rained at night and we all but Emett staid at home. He went to the baptist church. Iola had a bad spell of headache. Pack shot a negro in town today.

Monday, Mar. 26

This was a very bright day. Iola was sick on bed all this forenoon. I went to see Maggie in the morning and Cicero in the afternoon. Opened a new barrel of flower today. Dr McCorkle spent the night with Maggie she was so sick. Iola up and tried to sew.

Tuesday, Mar. 27

This was a beautiful day. Cicero sick since Saturday had Dr. Cole with him. I was buise all forenoon with difer jobs, cooked dinner. Afternoon went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Ridings. I then met Mrs. Patten and had a long talk with her, then with Jannie Haskins. Came by to see Cicero. I had a bad spell of gravel. Iola & Dr. went to brother & Sister Phares after supper.

Wednesday, Mar. 28

Effie Jourden was buried today died of child birth. I went to see Cicero after cooking breadfast, washing dishes, sweeping around doors. Came home took down bed and varnished. Cooked dinner, then helped Emett plant irish potatoes. Iola & Willie went to town. After supper Eula & Iola went to see sick at brother Phares. Jannie Haskins was married today. White mare was sick today. This was a beautiful day.

Thursday, Mar. 29

I went to brother Phares to carry their breakfast, came home, cut and made a calico rapper for myself with Iolas help. Iola went with Beatrice Grishen to see the sick at brother Phares. Hattie May Shoemate sent Cicero a fine dinner and flowers while sick today. Iola and Eula went to see Allie Steels sick children. Iola made tofie candy to night. Iola ordered some scissors from Arbusby.

Friday, Mar. 30

The weather turned very cold. Aunt Zura, Annie and sister Sue came to our house. I finished up a calico rapper for myself. recieved a letter from Sallie saying she gave an intertonement to the literary club in Sherman. I had some corn planted. I went with sister Sue to Lulas. Cicero sick.

Saturday, Mar. 31

Iola and sister Sue went to see old Mary Col. and then to Lulas and spent the day. I staid at home mended cloaths, cooked two cakes, wrote a letter to Sallie and one to Maurine & Olie May. I went to Lulas in the afternoon. Brother Joe & sister Sue wer boath here. The day was very bright but cold. I had corn planted.

Sister Sue, Dr., Iola and I went to SS. brother Green, Mr. & Mrs. Folks came home with us, in the afternoon Dr. carried sister Sue home & brother Brown came. Willies folks came and Willie had a bad spell of billious colic. News came that Mr. Wagner killed a man for seducing his daughter

After morning work I mended and finished a skirt for myself. Rose Blackwood came in the morning. Willie had spent the night as she was sick. After dinner I went to town and bought a new carpet for the parlor, a bonnett for Iola & a waist. Called on Sue Folks, Mrs. Brandagear, Mrs. Phares, came home and cooked supper. This a pretty day. I planted some garden seed.

Tuesday, April 3

This is a pleasant nice day but rained at night. I cut a bonnett for the circle, mended stockings, cooked dinner. Went to the sewing circle in the afternoon. Alice Jones came to see us. Iola went to see sister Phares inthe afternoon, then went to the circle. I stoped to see Allie Steels little girls who had swolen feet with blue spots. Mrs. Copland sent the church tree dollars from North Carolina.

Wednesday, April 4

I sewed on a bonnett for the circle in the morning, in the afternoon went to see Willie and hemed ruffles and string for Iolas bonnett. Came home and Cassie Hamelton came to help on a bonnett. I then went to Lulas and worked button holds for a waist. Came home and cooked supper and went to prayer meeting, had good talks on waiting for Christ. Iola painted on a picture of some dogs and went to see Allie Steel. This was a bright rained last night.

Thursday, April 5

I arose with headache but cooked breakfast and washed dishes. Iola & Emett took up the carpet in the parlor. Willie did spring cleaning. I read most all morning. Went to Willies and helped make a parlor carpet. Mrs. Will White and sister came to see her. Eula went and staid all night with Willie and helped to finish the carpet. I came home and cooked supper then read SS lesson & bible.

Friday, April 6

I helped Lula sew until time to cook. Came home and found Annie McCorkle & Alline here, after dinner Iola went to town to the grand opening and to do trading for Lula. I sewed all day for Lula. Came home to have Emett to paint the buggy. Iola had a sick headache. Dr., Emett, Mr. Paterson & I went singing at Mr. Gr(?).

Saturday, April 7

I made a silk shirt for Beatrice and cominced another. Iola worked for Lula in the forenoon and she and I made a pair of pants for Scott. Will McNail took supper with us, came to meet Adison and take him out home. Eula & M. K. went to Sue McNails to spent the night. This was a bright pleasant day had no fire all the afternoon.

Sunday, April 8

We all went to SS. Lula took dinner with us, her family went to Dyersburg. In the afternoon Mrs. Phares and I went to see sister Barham who was sick, then went to see Mrs. Rice who was sick, came by and stoped to see Mrs. Grishen. After supper Iola & Mrs. Phares went to see Mrs. Shoemate who was sick on bed. It was a bright day but a little showery at times.

Monday, April 9

I finished a skirt for Beatrice, finished a bonnett for the circle and worked on one for Iola. Iola went to Lulas, came home and cut a waist for Scott and sewed on it. Willie & I went to see Mrs. Shoemate she is sick with logisp(?). Old Mrs. Arnett was buried today brothers Scott & Phares conducted funeral service. This was a bright warm day.

Tuesday, April 10

I helped Lula in the morning, came home cooked dinner, then sewed all the afternoon for Beatrice. It rained all the afternoon. Iola made Scott a waist. Emett was a little sick but went to school. Mr. Patison bought an old buggy from Dr. gave Thirteen dollars for it. Recieved a letter from Sallie saying she might come home soon.

Wednesday, April 11

I cut a rapper for Lula and Iola, helped some to make it. In the afternoon I went to Mrs. Barkers to pay her for weaving the carpet for the sewing circle, called on Mrs. Williams Belle Dickey Williams. Then went to town trading bought some shoes for Scott and a bonnett for the circle and one sister Phares. Willie spent the day. Eula packed to move. The weather cold.

Thursday, April 12

Mr. Kanes moved out today. I helped to pack, then finished Lulas dress, cooked dinner and made two garments in the afternoon, had two callers Mrs. Grishen & Fannie Arnett. I let Fannie have a setting of eggs. We bought the third pair of shoes for Scott for this winter. Iola and Willie went to town trading. Iola spent the afternoon with Lula & sister Phares. Otis had a chill. This a cold day.

Friday, April 13

I finished a bonnett for the circle went to Lulas and helped her sew. In the afternoon I called on the baptist preacher and wife, also to the methodist preachers wife. Iola and Emett took up my room carpet and put another down. Uncle Jim Green & Aunt Frankie spent the night with us. The singing met here.

Saturday, April 14

Uncle Jin Green and Aunt Frankie went to town and took dinner with Bob Dickeys family. Iola and I cooked cakes & pie for Sunday. Iola spent the night with Lula. Mr. & Mrs. Green came back and spent the night. I hired a negro and spent the afternoon at the church cleaning yard & house.

Sunday, April 15

We all went to SS & also to hear brother Phares preach. Mag Moda, Little Mada, Mr. & Mrs. Green all took dinner with us. Brother Phares lectured on struglers & straglers. In the afternoon Dr. and I went to see Florence Barham. Then went to church at night. Jack Shofners babe was buried today. This day was bright and pleasant. This is Easter day.

Monday, April 16

I went to see Mrs. Shoemate who was sick. Came home cooked dinner, wrote a letter to Sallie. Iola & Willie went to see Mrs Barham, Mrs. McConnell, Mrs. Murry in intrest of brother Phares donation. I staid at home and sewed. At night we all went to hear brother McColeb a man from Japan. This a pretty day.

Tuesday, April 17

I helped Iola make Scott a pare of pants, after dinner we went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Grishens. She was gone to see her mama as she was very low nigh unto death. Brother and sister Phares came and sat with us until bed time and gave us music so nice. Mrs. Walker came to see me. This was an April shower day but pretty in the afternoon.

Wednesday, April 18

Iola, Willie, Rose & Mattie gathered up a donation for brother Phares. Mattie McGee and Otis Arnett is taking the measles today. I went to see them. Iola, Willie & Lula went to town trading. I staid and kept the babe. This is a pretty bright day. After supper we all went to prayer meeting from there a crowd of 35 went to Brother Phares to a donation partie, had a good time.

Thursday, April 19

I went to see the sick, Mrs. Gildy Pace stoped to see Lula. After dinner I read an hour then cut a skirt for Willie and help her to bast it. Mrs. Ben McColough called to see us. Elder Pattie came to lecture on the church and saloon. Dr., Emett and I went to her Anti Saloon lecture it was good. A league was orginized & Dr. elected President.

Friday, April 20

I finished up a bonnett for the circle, it was for Mrs. Hamelton, then I worked on a skirt for Willie. Iola went to see the sick at Fannie Arnetts. Mrs. Laura Wills died this morning & cousin Elliu Scott was sent for to conduct the funeral service. Willie and children wer here. A carload of buggies & wagons came to the store, the first that have come. Dr. called to see Mrs. Moody about her sister teaching.

Saturday, April 21

Iola has a bad headache. Mrs. Phares came to see us. I did the work, wrote Sallie a letter, mended cloaths, went to see two sick families. Mr. Karns came to see us a little bit. I loaned my steam bath and medicin to Mr. Riding as his health was so bad. Iola went to Mrs. Phares and found her alone and spent the night with her.

Sunday, April 22

After doing morning work I read and sturdied SS lesson. It began raining at seven oclock rained hard. The weather cleared off and we all went to SS. After dinner Iola called to see Mattie McGee and Otis who have measles. Dr. took dinner with Lula. I went over after dinner. At four oclock Mrs. Phares & I went to see a sick lady Mrs. Williamson. The christian enders met for the first time.

Monday, April 23

After morning work was done, I wrote a letter of sympathy to Sister Alice in the death of her sister Laura Wells. I then varnished seven pieces of furniture. In the afternoon I went to see the sick at Camp Arnetts. I then bouned some rugs, patched some for Emett. Mr. Cuff took possesion of our back rooms. It rained all day. After supper Dr. went to Camp Arnett to see the sick folks.

Tuesday, April 24

Mr. Cuff moved in our back rooms. Iola went to town with Lula morning and evening. I washed windows and varnishe all the morning and cooked dinner. In the afternoon I went to the sewing circle, came home and cooked supper. Brother Rodie came to get me to make him some shirts. Albert had a phone put in his house.

Wednesday, April 25

The train killed Mr. Patersons horse knocked it off of the trusell. Mrs. Green and Mrs. Hamelton came to see us. I went see Mrs. Self, Glass, Harris, McConnell, Barham. We all went to prayer meeting. Mrs. Cuff went with us. Subject Fishers of men. The weather is beautiful. Albert came home sick in bed with fever all day.

Thursday, April 26

I varnished all the morning, worked on a doily a while, then went with Mrs. Phares calling, met sister Holland daughter from St. Louis, fount her a very nice lady. The day was very pretty. Sallie took us on supprise and came in on eight train. Went to see Willie & Lulas folks. We wer all so glad to see her, but wer not expecting her. This a lovely day.

Friday, April 27

I set chickens this morning with seventeen eggs each. This is a beautiful day. Several called Sallie to the phone early this morning but she was gone to see sister Phares. Willie spent the day. Mr. Cockroft and Lula and Ada Ridings called. This is Sallies first visit home since her marriage. A joy to us all. Iola went to town to try on waists and hats. Iola, Sallie & Dr. went to the singing at Bess & Ellen Goodloes.

Saturday, April 28

I mended all morning. Iola had a headache. Sallie went to Lulas to help on Beatrice's skirt. In the afternoon I made a shirt for brother Rodie. Mrs. Glass, Vera Townson, Alice Jones called on Sallie. Iola and Sallie went to town to buy a birthday present for Beatrice. Lula sent her. Brother Phares & Ada went to Bogoda. The afternoon was cloudy.

Sunday, April 29

We all went to SS, church. Sallie, Willie & Albert went to M.E. church. The Elders stoped the young peoples meeting caused some feelings among them. Sallie & Iola went to Willies after dinner. Cicero came to see Sallie and went for her mail. Sallie spent the night with Lulas folks. Willie and children sat with us until bed time. It rained hard this afternoon.

Monday, April 30

Made a shirt for brother. Sallie came in from Lulas and wrote a letter to Mr. Reeves. Iola, Sallie, Willie & Lula went to town in the afternoon bought a hat for Iola & Lula. Cora Townson called to see Sallie. Iola and Sallie went to see Mrs, Phares after supper This was a pretty day.

Tuesday, May 1

I made a shirt for Rufus Clement. In the afternoon the ladys of the sewing circle met with us. Sallie took dinner and supper with Willie and spent the night. We all talked of going to the Convention. This was a pretty day yet a little cool. Willie & Lula here. The day was pleasant.

Wednesday, May 2

I made a shirt waist for my self and a shirt for brother Rodie. Iola went to town and brought a hat for Iola at 4.23, a silk waist for 3.50, trimming for my bonnett 75cts. Sallie went with her. A cloud rose and a rain came at night. Robert & Rodie took dinner with us. Mr. Karns left for Washington on the eleven train. Robert brought him to town.

Thursday, May 3

Mrs. Porter called to see Sallie. Aunt Frankie Green spent the day. In the afternoon she & I went to Mrs. Grishens, left Willie, Lula, Mrs. Phares here with Iola & Sallie. Mrs. Green trimed my old bonnett. I was invited to spend The day at Mrs. Grishens with Mrs. Green Saturday.

Friday, May 4

I finished a shirt for brother Rodie and a waist for myself & cooked dinner. In the afternoon I helped to cut and make a black lawn for myself. I went to Willies to hem the ruffles. Iola & Sallie bought the dress in the morn took dinner with Lula. Iola had headache all the afternoon. This was a pretty day. Dr., Emett & I went to the singing at Grishens.

Saturday, May 5

I finished my skirt to my black organdy. Went to Mrs. Grishens to take dinner with brother Jim Green, aunt Frankie. Dr. McCorkle went. Their fine mare Old Mag died. Sallie went to Holland springs to shaperone a crowd of young folks. Mr. Reeves sent a telegram to Sallie saying he would come Tuesday or Wednesday. Almer Parker & Belle Dickey called to see Sallie.

Sunday, May 6

We all went to SS & to hear brother Phaes preach. In the afternoon Davey was to pass through Newbern and about one thousand people wer at the train to see him. I went to Mrs. Harris Weltons to see Mrs. Green who was hurt from a fall. Iola, Sallie, Willie and Mrs. Phares went to Mrs. Porters. We all went again at night to preaching. This a pretty day.

I went to collect money for State missions. Went to Mattie Browns, Mrs. Barhams, Mrs. McConnels. Lula and Beatrice went to Dyersburg to buy hats. Dr. went to see Mr. Daws to sell him a binder. Sallie was sick today and recieved a telegram from Mr. Reeves saying he would come Wednesday and stay until Monday. The afternoon was cloudy.

Tuesday, May 8

Ada Ridings, Hattie Sharp, Rose Blackwood, Brother Phares, Mr. White and myself went to Crockett Mills to a Christian Convention. Stoped at brother Robertsons. Seventy-five took supper there that night. We all then went to church and brother Phares preached the first sermon at night.

Wednesday, May 9

I was still at the christian convention had a most delightful time, had fine dinner at the church and feast of good sermons. Brother Rice gave a fine one at night. John E. McCorkle & cousin Anderson came home as brother Phares did left Pearl to go to cousin Bettie Reeves. This day was cold.

Thursday, May 10

I came home from the convention with brother Phares. After spending the first part of the day with the good convention. Mrs. Permenter was my companion while there. Mrs. Root and Mrs. Floid also staid in the same room. Mr. Reeves came tonight on eight train. Robert fell from the buggy and was badly hurt for a while. The girls staid at the convention.

Friday, May 11

I went to Lulas to see Robert who had been hurt, came home and helped to cook dinner. Lula went to town to try on a silk waist Mrs. Jones was making for her. In the afternoon I went to see Florence Barham and tell her about the convention and her friends. Sallie & Mr. Reeves went to town then to Lulas to spend the night. Iola and Scott also. The teacher for the school wer elected to night. I went to the singing. The girls came home today. This was a cool day.

Saturday, May 12

We all went to Lulas for dinner. Iola, Sallie & Edgar drove to Dyersburg this morning came back by dinner. I then went to the church to help Emett clean & varnish. The young Jersey brought a calf today. Willie came from Fulton after spending one day and two nights. This was a pleasant day. Mrs. Cuff went to Greenfield. I made Sallie a sun bonnett.

Sunday, May 13

We all went to SS & preaching. Mr. Reeves & Sallie wer here and went with us. Duck Hamelton Sellers came up from Dyersburg Saturday & died in a few hours. Iola, Mrs. Arnett & I went to see her. She was dress beautifully. Lulas family and our all went to Willies for dinner to be with Edger & Sallie. This was a beautiful day. Beatrice & Mr. Cockroft was at Hot Springs Ark to a convention. Harris McCashen and Mrs. Fulgum were married today by King. Our meeting began today brother Phares.

Monday, May 14

All the children & grandchildren took dinner except the Blanks children. Sallie & Edger left on the evening train. Brother Phares preached the funeral of Duck Hamelton Sellors this afternoon, sister Phares played the orgin. She Duck was buried at Dyersburg. Quite a large crowd gathered at her fathers house to the funeral. This was a bright day. I staid at home and kept the babe Thelmer all went to see Sallie & Edger off Sue Westbrook came to see Sallie.

Tuesday, May 15

Mrs. Ridings & I went to see the sick Mr. Oglisby & Camp Arnett. After dinner I went to Willies and filled her quilt square with names and worked three, came home and went to church and promised to do personal work for christ, came home cooked supper and went back to church an heard a fine sermon from Bro. Phares. This was a fine bright day.

Wednesday, May 16

I went to see the sick at Comp Arnetts, came home and cooked dinner. Brother Joe and John E. McCorkle took dinner with us. I helped sister Phares sew in the afternoon and went to the church to prayer and bible reading meeting. Called on Mrs. Dr. Smith. Charlie Allen came to see us and went with us to preaching. This was a bright day very dry.

Thursday, May 17

Mr. Cockrofts brother came. Dr. had another chill today and Parson Cockroft came to see him. We called in Dr. McConnel to see Dr. Mc. I went in the afternoon to see poor people that wer sick, made a shirt for Ludith and helped Iola on her waist. It rained today for the first time in many days. Our meeting by brother Phares is in progress and Dr. and I can't go as he is so sick. Lula, Willie and all the children came to see Dr. I wrote a letter to brother Henry.

Friday, May 18

Dr. still in bed. I wrote to Sallie. Several came to see him. Meeting still in progress. Iola went to town bought some slippers. Lula & Willie, Mr. Cockroft in to see Dr. It rained today. Mr. McAlister shot his wife then himself, left two little orphant children. Iola went to Mollie Waldens recital at Opera house. Mrs. Shoemate came to see Dr.

Saturday, May 19

Dr. still on bed sick. Brother Green came and took dinner with Dr. I had work done in the garden. Several called to see Dr. Albert came to see Dr. and sold two buggies. It rained a little today and Willie set out potato slips five rows. We went to singing at the church, had three additions at night.

Sunday, May 20

We all went to SS and left Scot to stay with Dr. Had a fine sermon from brother Phares. Brother Green, Grishen, Oglisby, Finis McCorkle, Mr. Cockroft & brother and others called to see Dr. on the bed sick. A man was baptised by brother Phares this afternoon. It rain a slight shower in the morning, but fair in the afternoon, had a fire all day both at home & at church. Willie and Albert took a ride in our faiten. Brother Rodies family spent the night with us.

Monday, May 21

Dr. still on bed. I was not well but able to be up the most of the day. Several called to see him. Brother Cauble Christian minister called and took supper with us. Iola and I went to preaching at night to hear brother Phares in our protracted meeting. This was a fine bright day.

Tuesday, May 22

Dr. took a buggy ride and came back & went to bed. Brother Moody came to see Dr. We have 75 little chicks. Several called to see Dr. The meeting continue with great intress. Only four met at Willies to see after the circle work we all agreed to give one dollar as piece for the protracted meeting.

Wednesday, May 23

Brother Cauble of Dyersburg took dinner with us. Iola and I set out five hundred slips in our potato patch. Emett worked on the rows. It rained most all day. Will Radford was baptised his father and all his folks opposed it. We have eight additions up to this date. A man by the name of Shrink mad the profession. Mr. Cockroft left today.

Thursday, May 24

Iola and Mrs. Grishen went to see Florence Barham. Dr. McCorkle telephoned he was going to Yorkville with a nice man. Mr. Cockroft staid in the store. This is a pretty day. In the afternoon I went to see Florence Barham and found her very low, her father and sister came to see her. We all went to church and heard a fine sermon on Christian Union from brother Phares. Saw Mr. Swink baptised.

Friday, May 25

Iola and I boath have bowel trouble not able hardly to be up. Lula & Willie came to see us. Sister Phares came also. Florence Barham very low today. I am not able to go to see her. Our wall brushes wer delivered today. Rev. Pettie delivered a temperence lecture at the Christian church. Iola & Dr. not able to go. Mr. Paterson and I went there was a good crowd. This is a pretty day.

Saturday, May 26

Iola sick on bed all day. I called Dr. McConnell in to see her. Willie came to see Iola. Beatrice came in the afternoon. Emett Harris set out potato slips. Emett Arnett helped a while. We all went to hear brother Phares preach. There was a good large crowd and a fine sermon. This a bright pretty day.

Sunday, May 27

Iola was too sick to go to SS. Dr., Emett and I went. Brother Phares preached and brother Flats daughter made the confession but was not baptised on the account of sickness. We all took a ride in Willies new faiten. The protracted meeting closed with one addition at the last sermon. This was a pretty day but a little warm. Emett went to Dyersburg came back on 8 T. Allie Steel came to see Iola.

Monday, May 28

Iola too sick to be up this morning and afternoon also. Lula, Willie came to see Iola. I sewed for Willie mad a lawn skirt. Brother Phares came to see Iola. This was cloudy day in forenoon but bright afternoon. I gave a poor girl some shoes and hoes also a hat. She was so thankful to get them. Emett Harris set out potato slips and a shower of rain came in the night.

Tuesday, May 29

We had a blessing from God in a fine rain so much needed. Iola able to be up a while but not well. Ada Ridings came to the sewing circle to go to Mrs. Oglisbys to make a carpet. It rained all forenoon. I went to sewing circle in the afternoon and we all agreed to help the poor of our church and send(not completed)

Wednesday, May 30

It rained the most of the day. I made a waist for Willie. Iola on bed all day with bowel trouble. Dr. McConnell came to see her. A new paper started in Newbern Courier by name. Lula came to see Iola. Willie spent the most of the day and mad Mary a rapper. Dr. and I went to prayer meeting left Mrs. Cuff to stay with Iola. Subject for prayer meeting A little child Shall lead them.

Thursday, May 31

Iola very sick. I sent Emett Harris after Dr. Cherry and Lonnie went for Dr. Cole by mistak or mis understanding of Maggies message. So we had two Dr.s to come in at once which was imbarsing to all.

In the afternoon Lula & Fannie Arnett came to see Iola. Willie and Maggie spent the day, we had beans & fresh irish potatoes, later sister Phares came and sat a while, still later after supper Mrs. Shoemate. Emett Harris spent the night with Emett Arnett. It rained all day and most all night.

Friday, June 1

Still raining this morning. Iola still sick. Scott very much exercised over his mother being so sick and is saying mama is going to heaven if she dies and how can I go too granma, I said by being a good and obedient. In the afternoon Mrs. Grishen, Allie Steel & Mrs. Arnett came to see Iola. I went to brother Phares to get him to go and buy a poor girl a pairs of shoes so she could go to Sunday school, this was done with Sewing Circle money. Dr., Emett & I went to the singing after putting Scott to bed. This was a good bright day.

Saturday, June 2

Iola still not able to be up. I do all the work in kitchen and house. This is a bright morning. Mrs. Grishen & Allie Steel came to see Iola. I was sick all this afternoon. Dr. came in from town sat down to his supper and was taken very sick with nettle rash was sick all night. I went after Cicero to go for the Dr., Iola & I all sick. Willie had a chill and was very sick sent for Dr. Cherry.

Sunday, June 3

Dr. & Iola not able to go to church. I went alone. The Comencement sermon was preached at the school house by Rev. Binkly. Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Harris called to see Iola, Dr. & I. Brother Flats girl was baptised. Willie still sick Dr. Cherry to see her twice today. We all went to see her and left Dr. on bed asleep. It rained several times today.

Monday, June 4

All able to eat breakfast. I cut Iola a dress and she cut Scott a waist and went to Willies as she was sick and spent the day. I wrote a letter to Sallie and worked on Iolas dress. Mr. Moore bought Mr.(left blank) place and will soon move to it. It is still raining farmers blue on not being able to cut their wheat. Brother Phares came to see us and went to see Willie. Sister Phares sick.

Tuesday, June 5

I was not well but went to see Willie as she was on bed. I made Mary a skirt while there, came home and helped Iola finish dinner. After dinner Iola went to Allie Steels to meet with the sewing circle. It rained and no one else came. She, Allie & Florence went to see Willie. Comp Arnett and family started to Tex on a visit to his uncle and for his health. We refused the hard shell the use of the church. Rain Rain

Wednesday, June 6

Iola went to the college to the examinations with Mrs. Moody and Allie Steel. I read the most of the morning and cooked dinner, finished up Iolas rapper. Had headache all the morning. Lula came over a while. Willie still sick but able to sit up. It rained some today. Otis Phares went after Bess Townson in our buggy. Mr. Cuff work in our pantry in the afternoon. Iola had headache in the afternoon. We all went to prayer meeting. Dr. ordered a surry for Mr. Cockroft. Mrs. Phares sister came. Rain.

Thursday, June 7

A very hard shower of rain fall early this morning. Mr. Cuff is remodling the pantry. Iola and Scott went to Willies. I spent the morning reading and cooking dinner. After dinner Lula and Mr. Cockroft went to hear Lizzie Ve examined. I kept the little babe Thelmer. Willie came over. Lula came after the examination. Iola & I went to the concert carried Scott and the colege was packed had good concert. It rained several showers.

Friday, June 8

This has been a fair day, the first in quite a while. Mattie Pace and I bought a dress for a poor girl. Ada Ridings helped me to make it. Florence & Allie Steel came to see us. Mrs. Grishen & I went to see Florence Barham who has been down eight months Rose Dunivant is thought to be dying all this day has been down four years with rumatism. We all went to the concert at the college had a cake walk. A fine day no rain. School closed.

Saturday, June 9

I finished up a dress for a poor girl Pearl Rodgers, she seemed so proud of it. When we give to the poor we lend to the Lord. Mr. Cuff sealed my pantry and charged three dollars. Lula & Willie came over. Emett Harris worked the garden for the last time, went to Mollies to get pay for teaching school. Albert and Mr. Paterson came in from Fulks to see Dr. on business. I read most all day. This a bright pretty day.

Sunday, June 10

Emett told us that Mollie & Will Radford was to be married and at nine oclock we saw her go to Mrs. Arnetts then brother Moody went in, so Iola and Lizzie went over to see it. We then all went to SS and preaching at the baptist church. In the eve Mrs. Phares & Della Whitney came, they and Iola went walking, then they went to the cumberland to preaching. Dr., Scott and I staid at home, I was not well. Dr. was feeble. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Emett Harris left. This was a bright warm day.

Monday, June 11

I went to see Mrs. Pace and while there Laurane brought Mallie home in a buggy to see her mama and get her cloaths. I braught a skirt to make for Mallie. Iola & Lula went calling. I wrote to Sallie, prepared some cheries to preserve. Willie, Rose and Gladis came. Willie & Lula went to Mrs. Rose Dunivants burial at Church Grove. This was a dry warm day.

Tuesday, June 12

I went to town bought a hat, black skirt and slippers paid 3.00 for them all. I bought a calico dress for Iola, stoped to see Bettie Grayory, Mrs. Brewer & sister Phares. In the afternoon I went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Ridings, there we decided to have a stand of ice cream to sell. At night Iola, Miss Whitney, Brother Phares, Beatrice and I went to the Cumberland Church where they had a protranted meeting, heard a very poor sermon, came by the light house, then home went to bed at half past ten. This was a warm day very dry.

Wednesday, June 13

I sewed on a black skirt for myself in the morning. In the afternoon I made several calls on the sick. I went to see Mrs. Owen who was my neighbor thirty two years ago and she seemed to be very proud to see me. Sister Phares sent us some ice cream. Mrs. Cuff went to Huntington today, moved her things to the depot. Mr. Cuff staid and went to Mr. Oglisbys. This was a pleasant day. Iola went to Willies.

Thursday, June 14

I made a black skirt for myself, mended and read how to read & how to remember the bible. It rained all day. Cicero & Beatrice came to see us. Iola went to Willies in the rain to do some tucking on Willies machine. the farmers are blue over not being able to cut their wheat. Mr. Cuff spent the night and worked for us. It rained too hard for any one of us to go to preaching.

Friday, June 15

Mrs. McDavid died this morning. I read all the morning. At two oclock Dr. came hone sick was brought home in a buggy. Mr. Cuff patched our roof and lowered a bedstead. I mad button holds for Lula. Mattie Brown came. Lula, Willie, Mrs. Phares & sister came. Mr. Cuff still with us. Pearl Rogers cooked for me and I gave her two dresses of Lizzies. It rained today. Mr. Grishen, Porter & Ellen came to the singing.

Saturday, June 16

I worked button holds for Lula in the morning. Mrs. McDavid was buried today. Lizzie Blanks came & brought Olie May & Maurine. Dr. on bed sick all day, he hired Cicero to stay in the store as he was sick. Lula came to see Dr. Willie came. Pattie Shoemate came and brought me a gather for my machine. It rained two hard showers.

Sunday, June 17

We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares preach. After dinner I went to see Florence Barham they thought she was dying. I then went to the church to meet with a comitty to assist in getting up a program for a childrens day, then I stoped by to see Beatrice who had been gone off on a long visit. I heard there from Mr. Grishen that Mrs. Copeland was to return and marry Billy Hill. It rained again today.

Monday, June 18

I wrote a letter to Sallie then cooked dinner. Iola went to the CP church with brother Phares and Della Whitney to hear a sermon on baptism. I worked on Olie Mays & Maurines dresses in the afternoon. Alice Edwards came and spent the night. Mrs Phares, Miss Della & Allie Steel came to see us. It rained several showers in the forenoon. Lizzie spent the night with Willie so did the girls.

Tuesday, June 19

It rained some in the morning. I was too sick to go to the sewing circle. Iola and Wille went. Lula came and staid with me. Beatrice & Lizzie came. Allie Steel came. Lizzie spent the day with Mrs. Williams. Mr. Cuffs daughter and son came. Several of the grandchildren spent the night with us.

Wednesday, June 20

Iola went to see Rose B. Lidi Goodloe Squires came on a visit from Henriata, Tex. The meeting at the CP church in progress. Iola received a letter from Sallie. I worked on a rapper for Iola and helped Olie May dress a doll. I went to the church in the afternoon to assist in a children day program then went calling later. This was a pleasnt day no rain. Otis Ferrel was to be married today.

Thursday, June 21

This was a cool day. Lizzie and the little girls spent the day, went to Lulas to spend the night. I went to Lulas and worked button holds in two garments then went to the church to help train the children. Mrs. Shoemate with the two little girls went to see her mother in Middle Tenn. CP meeting still in progress by Tyler of Union City. A man to shun the teaching of Gods word.

Friday, June 22

It rained all day until four in the afternoon. Lizzie Blanks, Dr. and I took the children and spent the day with Lula. I helped to make Lizzie a dress. Scott was on bed sick all day. Lula had sherbert and chickens pie. Willie is getting ready to go to Tex. Lizzie B. spent the night with Lula.

Saturday, June 23

I worked button holds for Lula. Lizzie Blanks went to Mr. Dicksons to spend the night. It rained the most of the day. Lula went to Willies to learn her to make donuth. I met with the children to get them ready for childrens day. Sister Phares training them. Mrs. Heart died. Willie came over to see us. I baithed the little girls Olie & Maurine then read.

Sunday, June 24

I went to SS took Olie May. Dr. also went. It rained all the morning. Dr. & I went to the ME church to hear King preach. Iola was sick. We all took dinner with Lula, she had ice cream and cake. The comittie went to the training of the children. A large crowd met to get up relief for Indies starving people, collected 40 dollars and sent to them. Olie May and Maurine boath sick to night. I went to see Lidie Squires at Bessie Ellens & brother Goodloe.

Monday, June 25

After sending off the cloaths to be washed I read and sturdied SS then cooked dinner. Deller Whitney came to see us. We wer kept awake most all night by Maurine having toothache. I went to the church to train the children. Iola and Lizzie went to Dr. Hensons ofice to have Maurines tooth pulled. I cooked supper for ten. Recieved a letter from Sallie begging for her pa to come Tex on a visit for his health. It rained at eleven oclock.

Tuesday, June 26

It rained most all night still raining this morning. The farmers in bad spirits over the vast amount of rain on the wheat and oats. After dinner Mrs. Phares and her sister came, but it rained too hard to get a meeting of the circle. We all workded on the squares to our Missionary quilt. Lizzie Blanks went to see Mrs. Williams. Iola to see Lula. Willie and the children spent the afternoon.

Wednesday, June 27

I helped to sew for Olie May & Maurine all day when I was not cooking. Flossie Williams came and spent the afternoon. Iola signed the divorce papers. Dona Hamelton and Mr. Hopper married today. Lula packed to move to Dyersburg today. Dr. had good trade sold three wagons & c. The young folks had a partie at Mrs. Grishens. Beatric Cockroft went. No rain.

Thursday, June 28

Four loads of Lulas plunder left this morning for Dyersburg they took dinner with us. I opened a barrel of flower this morning. Lula took supper with Willie, she, Mr. Cockroft and the girls spent the night with us. Mrs. Moody called after supper. I made a dress for Olie May also a waist. Lizzie Blanks went to Mrs. Williams to spend the night. No rain today but cloudy.

Friday, June 29

Two more loads went to Dyersburg and the family went in a surry. Mr. Cockroft came back to bring the surry and spent the night with us, bought one of our cows and gave 3 dollars for her. I went to the church to help train the children and brother Phares gave the children a treat in the yard. I sewed for Maurine and Olie May all day. Lizzie spent the night with Mrs. Bradshaw. No rain but warm.

Saturday, June 30

We cooked some dinner and sent to Lulas folks as their stove was not up. Lonnie and Mr. Cockroft drove the cow threw the country. Willie & I went to see Mr. Galison who was sick. I sewed for Maurine and Olie May. Mr. Cuff went to Huntington to live. I bought a can of oil today. Albert gave Dr. a fine pare of patent slippers. Brother Crow from Kimberland heights came to day. Had a light rain. A young preacher from Kimberland Heights came to sell Ashey Johnsons book.

Sunday, July 1

We all went to SS. Olie May had a bad rising and had to stay Lizzie Blanks was bothered on account of Della Barker spoiling her waist as she could not go to church. Willie, Dr., Albert and myself went to the ME church, King preached, the protracted meeting began today. In the afternoon I went with Lizzie Blanks to see the home place we gave Mattie, then to see Mrs. Oblisby, Lizzie took supper with them. We all went to hear brother Phares preach at our church. Began raining at eleven oclock and continued until three in the afternoon.

Monday, July 2

Monday morning after getting through with the morning work I wrote a letter to George Blanks and begun one to Sallie. After dinner Willie and I called on sister Swink then to Mrs. Capells and found her very sick. I stoped to see Cousin Mag Finis. Brother Crow spent the night with us a young preacher from Kimberland Heights. I bought four books from him the two covenment & contriversity. Ruby Stark married in Memphis. No rain today.

Tuesday, July 3

I read in the forenoon some. Willie went to Union City to attend the fourth of July selebration with Albert. Ludith had a chill and fevor after she was gone. Lizzie Dickerson babe died. The sewing circle met here and we had ice cream and cake. After supper we met at brother Phares to practice some songs for childrens day. Dr. staid with the six children left with us. No rain today.

Wednesday, July 4

I wrote a letter to Sallie & George Blanks. Brother Rodie Clement came and spent the day as it rained. I helped Lizzie Blanks sew for the little girls all day. Iola met with the committee to make bells for Childrens day. It was very warm day to gather and cook vegetables. We went to the M.E. protracted meeting. Dr. staid with the six children. Mary, Maggie, Ludith, Scott, Olie May & Maurine. It rained several hours after dinner.

Thursday, July 5

I rushed to finish a gown for Olie May and help them get off on the train, they had been with us three weeks. John Travis, Jessie Wheary and Annie Travis from Yorkville took dinner with us, then I went with them to see Florence Barham. Then to help train the little children. Mrs. Phares and her sister came to see. After supper Miss Della, sister Phares & I went to the ME church heard a very poor sermon from an old preacher. No rain today.

Friday, July 6

This a very warm day. I am still taking care of Willies children. I cut a linen skirt for Iola today. Iola made Scott a waist to wear his first standing collar and we had a big laught at his looks in a high standing collar. Received a letter from Willie she was in Paduca. Iola went to the church to help with the children. Willie came on 8:30 train then all went to a singing at brother Phares. I staid with the children. Willie returned from Union City & Paduca. No rain here today.

Saturday, July 7

I was not able to eat any breakfast. Iola and several others buisy decorating the church for childrens day at the Christian church. Willie took the children home after they had been with me all week. I went to sister Phares in the afternoon and Iola went to the church to help decorate for childrens day. Brother Phares went to Halls to preach from there he went to Ripley to hold a meeting. I had a quite good time at home no one here but Dr., Iola, Scott & I. This a pretty day but warm.

Sunday, July 8

We all went to SS and church. Brother Cook came in just as we wer all through with the service, he came home with us and took dinner. In the afternoon we went to the childrens missionary meeting and everything was nice and well conducted. The house was beautifully decorated with an arch of seder, part flower boquitts & c. Beatrice & Cicero came from Dyersburg to spend the night with us. Willie took her out driving in her new surry with Iola & Scott. Children collected eleven dollars for foreign missions. Wily Pain died today. We all went to hear brother Cook preach. This a pleasant pretty day.

Monday, July 9

I have suffered all day with my back. Annie & brother Joe McCorkle took dinner with us. Iola and made a pair of pants for Scott today. Mr. Pain was buried today. Cicero came up and bought a single buggy, bought two horses and gave two hundred dollars for the two at Dyersburg. Beatrice Grishen and Miss Della Whitney came. Albert Rodgers went to Kenton. This was a dry pleasant day.

Tuesday, July10

I was not able to get up or do anything on the account of pain in my back. Fannie Arnett came to see me. Mrs. Phares brother from Chicago came and her cook was sick. She came and bought a chicken from me. Willie had brother Cook to take dinner with her and invited all of us but I was not able to go. Willie sent me a good dinner. Iola and Willie went to Mag McCorkles to the sewing circle. I staid at home. Mrs. Capell came to see me. Mary went to Yorkville with Albert. Iola and Beatrice went to see Florence Barham. This was a bright pleasant day.

Wednesday, July 11

I am still not able to be up much or help any. Iola did all the work alone. Dr. went to Dyersburg to see about a surry he sold. Albert went to Memphis. Willie went to town and bought Iola some slippers. Iola & Beatrice went to see sick in the afternoon. I read all day a new book of brother Cooks. Dr. sold a wagon and a surry. This a pleasant day not too warm.

Thursday, July 12

Iola had all the work to do. I am still down in my back. Received a letter from Sallie. Willie sick. Beatrice and sister Phares came to see us in the afternoon. Iola & sister Phares went to see Willie. Annice Allen came to see Willie. I spent this day reading. Mrs. Bitha Porter came to Newbern. Brother Rodie called to see me. Annice said she was teaching near Columbia getting 45 fra? month. Iola is sick to night with headache & c. Glad Pace fell dead in his yard. This is a bright day very pleasant.

Friday, July 13

I am not able to do any work except what I could do sitting back still sore. Hired a girl to help Iola. In the afternoon Iola, Mrs. Phares & Miss Della Whitney went out calling. Lizzie Ve Cockroft called me over the phone at Dyersburg, the first talking done on their new phone. After supper Dr. and Iola went to the singing at George McConnels. Scott and I staid home. This was a bright pleasant day not hot.

Saturday, July 14

I am still not able to work from my back trouble. Beatrice Grishen came to see us. Willie came. Steve Dickey died very sudently last night. Iola not well has headache. I mended all the afternoon brother Rodies pants, Iola skirt some for Willie. Ada Ridings came to see us. Rice Pierce spoke in town running for congress. Maggie was take sick last night and still sick today. Albert came to see Maggie. Dr. went up there. I wrote to Sallie. This a bright pleasant day. Had a shower this afternoon.

Sunday, July 15

I havent missed SS before in eight months. Iola, Dr. & Scott went. I staid home. Iola, Dr. & Scott went to brother Rodies after dinner. I staid alone and read all day. A crowd went to camp meeting near Dyer Station of sanctified methodist. Irine Holt came to see me. Willie and Albert with the children came and sat a while with me. Mrs. Arnett and the children went to Dyerburg and lost boys coat on the train. A slight rain fell today.

Monday, July 16

I still suffer with my back. Rose and Willie came to see me. Willie very much bothered because she could not get ready to go to Tex on the excursion of the seventeenth. Nat & Douglas brought Iola a picture to paint. Beatrice came and she and Iola went to see Florence Barham. Walter McCorkle came from his place of business on the Mississippi river to see us. this a pleasant day a little cloudy.

Tuesday, July 17

Willie very buisy getting ready to go to Tex. Iola went with her to town to get the childrens pictures. Mrs. Jones & Mrs. Walker buisy sewing for Willie. I am still suffering with my back. Walter here on his way home. Beatrice, Lizzie & Lonnie came up to see Willie off. Sewing circle met at Mrs Grishens and made cream to sell; sent it by a negro boy and failed to sell it. Willie left on 4:30 train for Tex. After supper Mr. McConnel, Ada and Lula Grishen came and ate the cream. This a bright pretty but not too hot.

Wednesday, July 18

The weather warm, had a shower at three oclock. I hired a negro to clean my garden. I read, worked on names and mended for Ludith. Iola drew a picture and painted today. Jim Ferrelle was buried. Brother Phares went to the house and conducted the funeral. I gave vegetables to Fannie Arnett, bought five gallons of plumbs and made all into preserves. Brother Phares came to look up prayer meeting topics in Iolas book the visitor. Iola & Dr. went to prayer meeting. I staid at home with Scott & Ludith. A very warn day rained at Bocloo.

Thursday, July 19

I am still suffering much with my back. Iola drew a picture. Lide and Ellen came to see us. Iola made Scott a waist in the afternoon I made button holds when I was able to sit up. Received a letter from Willie saying she missed the train and had to spend the night in Memphis. Quite a no. wer on the train expecting to reach the excursion. Work on the road at Ripley hindered the train. Ludith worked for Mr. Grey grading was proud to drive. I wrote a letter to Sallie one to the Blanks family. Fannie Arnett came to see me. Had a shower of rain in the afternoon.

Friday, July 20

I suffered severly after eight oclock. I cooked the breakfast for the first time in a week. Iola painted all the time when she not doing the work. Recieved a telegram saying Willie reached Sherman all OK. Mr. Cockroft telephoned Cicero would come for the new surry bought of Dr. McCorkle. Iola & Dr. went to Mr. Porters to a singing & SS sturdy. Albert Rodgers came in said everthing was lonesome. No rain to day bright and pleasant. I had a boy to hoe in the yard and garden one to plow up irish potatoes.

Saturday, July 21

Cicero and Lonnie left early with the new surry. I am still suffering with my back trouble. Iola did the most of the work. Mag Owen came to get milk & butter. Those that called in the afternoon wer Mrs. Parter, Rose Blackwood, Esther Inman, Allie Steel, Miss Della Whitney, Mary & Eula, the two babes. Albert staid all day in the store helping Dr. in putting up machines. Ludith helped in the afternoon, then came home to help gather up vegetables. Dr. so much interested in the war with China. It rained this morning the afternoon rainy and cold.

Sunday, July 22

I was not able to go to SS or preaching. Mrs. Walker came by to see me on her way to church. Iola, Dr., Albert and Ludith went to SS. Mrs. Moody came in from Florences said Dr. Cherry said she could live but a short time. Mrs. Grishen, Allie & Iola went to see Florence Barham. She is still alive. Iola stoped to see Mrs. Porter. Allie & Mrs. Grishen stoped to see me. Received the first letter from Willie at Sherman. I wrote a letter to Willie & Sallie. Dr., Iola & Albert went to hear brother Phares. Mrs. Goodman came to see me. This a bright pleasant day good breeze and no dust.

Monday, July 23

I am some better. Albert left for Fulton. Iola went to town to send something to Willie and get up money to buy a suit for brother Phares. I wrote a letter to Lula and one to Willie and Sallie. Leona Blackwood came to see me and spent some time. Brother Rodie brought me four gallons of berries and I made jam and cordial. Rose and Beatrice came later in the afternoon. Dr. sold Pace a surry and sat up until ten setting it up. The day bright and clear.

Tuesday, July 24

I am much better than I have been. We finished up dinner while by nine as we wer cooking jam. Miss Della came early. Mr. Capell is caning berries for Albert & Willie. Iola and I went to Mrs. Grishen to the sewing circle, this is the first time in tree weeks that I have been able to go. There was a marriage in Newbern at 12 oclock last night Jim Fulka and Miss Neely of Roellen. This a bright pleasant day.

Wednesday, July 25

I helped more about the work today than for a long time. We sell milk, butter & vegatables every day. We the sisters of the church gave brother Phares $7.00 to buy a summer coat. I went to brother Phares in the afternoon, he had gone to Dyersburg to buy his coat and took the babes. After supper Dr. and (I) went to prayer meeting. Mr. Pace came for us to go to his house and give him some advice about what to do as Mallie did not want to live with Will Radford as he treated her so badly. Brother Phares, Dr. and I went. It rained last night and again this morning then another shower this afternoon.

Thursday, July 26

Iola and Scott not well. I am still grunty. Dr. McConnell stoped to pay 25 cts on the coat. Mr. Pace sent for me to come over to her house to talk to Mallie about leaving Will Radford but I could give no advice. Will came while I was there but Mr. Pace met him and sent him back, telling him how mean he had treated his girl and he could not see her. Mr. Pace then sent for Mr. Oglisby to go after Mallies truck. Mallie and Will separated and Asy Dickey and Meda married. Mallie went to Memphis with her pa. This is a very pleasant day a good breeze all the time a little cool.

Friday, July 27

Last night was a cool night. We had to draw an quilt. Iola went to town to buy paints, domestic, trimmings & c. Mr. Cockroft, Cicero & Robert came and took dinner. In the afternoon brother Rodie came and brought me four gallons of berries and Iola and I canned them. Walter McCorkle came spent the night. After supper Dr., Iola, Ludith, Scott & I went to a singing & Sunday school sturdy. We decided to give the church & SS a free ice cream supper. This a bright pleasant day.

Saturday, July 28

Mrs. Florence Barham died this morning. Iola & Mrs. Phares went over there. I staid and baked a cake and cooked dinner. After dinner we went to Mrs. Barhams to attend the funeral of Mrs. Florence Barham. Brother Phares being gone brother Buckhannon gave a talk & a prayer. It was raing hard when the corpse was taken out of the house. Her father and brother came in the rain. Raining this morning before sun up.

Sunday, July 29

We all went to SS, the roads was too muddy to go to the meeting at Saturn or Yorkville. Mrs. Phares, Otis and Della Whitney, Albert, Ludith & Nat Porter took dinner with us. We had ice cream and cake & c. Dr., Ludith & Scott went out driving in the afternoon. It rained hard at seven. Albert at home and ate with us from Satruday to Monday. A slight rain fell at eleven oclock.

Monday, July 30

I read all the morning and helped Mrs. Phares select cards & tracks for the SS. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Pace. Mrs Cora Townson and Mrs. Ferrel came to see us in the latter part of the day. Iola made a pair of drawers and was not well at all. Beatrice and Lonnie came for Iola and they all went to hear a negro boy preach at the col church. Albert still with us. No rain today.

Tuesday, July 31

After breadfast Beatrice Cockroft went riding then to Clara Binklies to spend the day. Albert came back to dinner and whiped Ludith for not minding him in cutting weeds. Iola & Scott went to Dyersburg with Beatrice. The sewing circle met at my house. We decided to have a free ice cream supper for the church & SS. Beatrice, Mattie and Rose appointed to see the members. No rain today all well.

Wednesday, Aug. 1

I was not well, but did the work with Ludiths help. I wrote a letter to Willie & Sallie. Brother Rodie took dinner with us. I went to Mrs Paces to see Mattie, she gave me a letter to Will. Mrs. Pace & Mallie in great trouble. I went to see Mrs. Barham then by to see Dr. Cherries house, came home & Albert went with me Prayer meeting. Recieved a letter from Willie at Sherman, Tex. This was a warm day.

Thursday, Aug. 2

I did all the work with Ludiths help not very well this morning. Beatrice Grishen came this morning. Will Radford came to talk to me about Mallie. Albert & Ludith with me still. I went to see Mrs. Pace a while after dinner. Allie Steel came and sat with me, I mended the cloaths & helped Ludith scower the cook room. Dr. elected Magistrate. Iola came in from Dyersburg. Albert and Ludith met her to bring valisce(valise). This is a very warm day.

Friday, Aug. 3

Iola & I wer very busiy all the morning making cream and cake for the SS supper. In the afternoon quite a no. of the church members came to help freeze the seven freezers of cream. There was a large crowd here all the SS & church member free then sold five dollars worth to outsiders. Mr. Cockroft and the three oldest children came and spent the night. The yard was pretty full of lights and tables. A warm dry day not much dust.

Saturday, Aug. 4

I wrote a letter to Willie and Sallie. Mr. Cockroft, Cicero, Beatrice, Lizzie with Ludith went from here to Nebo to a speaking & bar-becue. After dinner I went to Mrs. Paces to sit a while. Iola & Scott staid at home. I went to Willies to attend to her things, picked dry beans, came home and cooked supper for the crowd coming from picnic. This a warm dry dusty day.

Sunday, Aug. 5

Dr. & Iola went to Yorkville to a protracted meeting. Albert and I went to SS, he then went to see his sister Callie. Came in and we eat dinner. I read all the afternoon. Marvin Bridges came to see us. Albert wrote letters all the afternoon. Iola & Dr. staid until after night meeting, reached home at twelve, found Albert gone and I alone with every door and window open. Dr. was sick in the night. This a warm dusty day.

Monday, Aug. 6

Mrs. Ferrell came early & left her veliece at out house said she would return and spend the night. Walter came to bring Eudora to the train and took dinner with us. Dr. a little sick ate no dinner. Iola & Scott went to Mrs. Phares. I hulled one gallon of dry butterbeans, went to Mrs. Walkers a while. Mrs. Ferrell spent the night. Walter left to go to his work in the bottom. Mallie went to with Will. More pleasant but dry.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

I went with Mrs. Ferrell to make some calls at Mrs. Patens, Mr. Goodloes & Mattie Browns. Iola and I went to the S. circle. Saw Mallie moving back to Will Radford. I went to Mrs. Shoemates later in the afternoon. I took dinner with Mattie Brown. Mrs. Ferrell then went to Mrs. Haskins to spend the night. Robert McCorkle came. Homer Mc. came by and told us good by gone to cousin Quinius Roaches to live. This a dry pleasant day.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

Mrs. Ferrell came after her valicse going back to Trenton. I read all the morning, worked on Iola blue rapper. Iola spent the morning cleaning Willies house had a negro to help. A crowd went to Gibson Wells today also a crowd went to camp meeting. Beatrice & Cicero came to spend the night & day with us. Recieved a letter from Willie at Sherman, Tex. saying she was sick. Iola, Dr. & I went to prayer meeting. Brother Phares & Otis went to Louisana to see their parents after closing a fine meeting at Fayett Mississippi. This was dry warm day.

Thursday, Aug. 9

I read and mended all this morning. Beatrice & Cicero spent this day. Mrs. Lewis Glass and six of her children came from Trenton came to Newbern and Mrs. Walker and I called to see her. Cicero & Beatrice went to a partie at Prof. Mores. Mrs. Porter called to see us also. Mrs. Phares came and spent a part of the morn, Beatrice Grishen came late and sat a while. Mary Wadie married in Dyersburg. Annie Wadington married. This was warm and dry.

Friday, Aug. 10

Beatrice & Cicero returned to Dyersburg. Ludith came home from Dyersburg. I went to Mrs Lucy Paces to sit a while. Iola made a new gown. I went to see Fannie Arnett as she was sick. The town bought Mrs. Porters lot known as the Prichard lot north of the Newbern bank. Gave two thousand dollars. This to be used for wagon yard, hitching place & c. The members of the church met here to practice song & SS lesson. This was a warm dry day.

Saturday, Aug.11

Albert left this morning to meet Willie in Memphis coming from Sherman Tex. Jim Ridings is very sick with fevor. Fannie Arnett had a chill. Mrs. Steel has percitus. Sent for all the kinfolks at Gibson Wells. I went to see Jim Ridings who was sick at his pas. Miss Della Whitning came also Beatrice Grishen. We had great trouble with Ludiths trip to Dyersburg he cried all the afternoon. I read the most of the day the Guide & Standard & c. This a dry warm day.

Sunday, Aug. 12

Dr. & Mr. Porter went to Salem to preaching brother McCaleb did the preaching. Iola, Scott, Ludith & I went to SS. Iola went to Obion to see Mr. Steel who was very low. I came home to keep Scott and wrote a letter to Sallie. I read all the rest of the afternoon. Miss Della Whitney came and sat a while and borrow some books from me to read. Willie and family came in on the eight train and spent the night with us. Albert went off to Fulton on night train. Girtie Jones married a soldier boy. This day was pleasant good breeze.

Monday, Aug. 13

Willie went home. Iola and I mad sweet pickle. I gathered on half bushel of butter beans, finished a letter to Sallie, went to see Jim Ridings still sick, called to see Mrs. Moody, came by Fannies to help eat a watermellon, came home, churned & ate supper. Dr. & Iola went to see Jim Ridings. I staid at home an read my bible. This a croudy but warm day. Mrs. Glass & Nannie called.

Tuesday, Aug. 14

Iola & Willie went to town trading this morning. I staid at home and cooked dinner. In the afternoon we wen to the Sewing circle, worked on two bonnetts for Miss Della Whitney. Jim R.very low with brain fevor. Lula and the children came to spend a few days. Mr. Steel some better. News came that Eddie McCorkle was married. Sister Phares and Miss Whitney became frightened and came here after they had once gone to bed, spent the night with Willie. Had a shower at tewlve oclock.

Wednesday, Aug. 15

Lula spent the day and night. Iola went to town trading for Lula and had some pictures framed. After dinner I went to Willies and told her of Ludiths trouble and she took it hard Ludith asked for forgiveness. Beatrice G. came to see us and she and Iola went to see Mr. Scobys babe who was very sick with brain fevor. Iola, Lula & Dr. went to prayer meeting. Willie came and went to see Jim Ridings. This was a dry hot day.

Thursday, Aug. 16

Lula went to Willies to spend the day. Iola retouching some pictures. I finished up some bonnetts for Miss Whitney bought of the sewing circle. I went to see Jim Ridings. Miss Della & sister Phares called. Mrs. Brewer & daug called. I was invited to a tisha paper partie at Mrs. Arnetts and it was nice, quite a no. of the neighbors wer there. Lula came back and spent the night with us. Iola went to spend the night with Mrs. Phares & Miss Della. This a warm dry day.

Friday, Aug. 17

I finished a bonnett for the circle, then helped Lula sew on shirts and a dress for Thelma. Lula and the children spent the day. Albert came home to spend a week of vacation. He and Willie took a buggy ride and rode until nine oclock after night. Iola finished up some pictures and stretched canves for two other pictures. Dr. went to the SS sturdy & singing at Mr. Porters. Iola & I staid with Lula. Cicero came for Lula, called on Clara Binkly and spent the night with us. A warm dry day.

Saturday, Aug. 18

Lula and the children went home. Cicero staid to work for Jones who is running for Congress. Cicero went home on the 4:30 train. I read and mended all the afternoon. Beatrice Grishen came. Elmore Arnett sold out in the bottom and came back to Newbern. Cousin Elliue closed a fine meeting at Lemalasmac. Brother McColile also closed one at Salem. Jim Ridings still very sick. a warm dry day.

Sunday, Aug. 19

We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares preach had a good crowd and fine sermon. Mr. & Mrs. Bunk Folks came home with us to dinner. Mr. Ridings soon came and said Jim was worse. We all soon went over to see him and found him in a dying condition had several hemorages of the bowels. We all went at night to hear brother Phares , came by to see Jim and he was still alive, house full of company. A warm dry day very dusty.

Monday, Aug. 20

Jim Ridings died at 3 oclock. Sent for Albert Rodgers to help dress him. Iola & Dr. went over to sit a while. Brother Febus came by to sell us a receit for canning. Dr. and Mr. Ridings went to the cemetery to select a place to bury Jim. Then went to Trimble lecturing to be chairman of the court. We all went to the cemetary with the corpse. Brother Phares gave a fine funeral talk over the corpse, sent him nowhere. A warm dry day so much dust.

Tuesday, Aug. 21

I went to town to have Mrs. Conner fit the dress that Sallie gave me, bought some things, and came by brother Phares a while. In the afternoon I went to the Sewing circle at Rose Blackwoods. Came by and stoped to see Mrs. Roe who is down with a bad spell of inflamatory rumatism. Iola went to Mrs. Porters to carry a picture she had been painting by. Cicero and Dr. went over a portion of the county seeing the magistrates.. A dry very warm day.

Wednesday, Aug. 22

Dr. and Cicero started out on another trip through the county seeing if Dr. can be chairman of the court. After dinner I went to see the sick Capt. Williams, Polk Harris, Mrs. Owen and to see Mrs. Wall of Ill and her son Jimmie who used to board at our house just ten years ago. Iola staid at home and painted a chicken crude. I then got ready to go to Dyersburg. Mary went with me. A warm dry day.

Thursday, Aug. 23

I spent the day with Lula helping her sew for the children to go to Jackson to school, Beatrice & Cicero. Dr. canvassing the county with Mr. Cockroft. Iola and Scott staid at home kept house and staid with Willie at night. She & Willie called on Mrs. Wall a friend from Ill who was on a visit to Dr. McConnel her father. Lula and I made three shirts for Cicero & c. A warm dry day.

Friday, Aug. 24

I spent with Lula sewing for the children. Dr. & Mr. Cockroft still trasing over the county seeing the Magistrates. Cicero came up to clerk for Dr. and be company for Iola. Cicero called on his girl and Iola staid with Willie. Mrs. Kid and Mrs. Herron call to see me while I was in Dyersburg. A hot dry day.

Saturday, Aug. 25

I returned from Dyersburg on eleven train left Mary. Dr. came at night with Willie. Iola and I made sweet pickle and canned apples. Brother Phares called so did sister Phares. Iola and Willie went to brother Phares. The day was cloud & windy. I met Miss Kerrodle on the train she seemed so glad to see me and sent love to Sallie and all. She had been to Ripley on a visit. Willie came to see me. A dry day rained a little at night. Three babes were born to one woman in five miles of Newbern.

Sunday, Aug. 26

We all went to SS. Mrs. Wall was there. Dr., Finis and I went to the baptist church. Cicero went to the Cumberlalnd church. Iola and Scott came home. Marvin Self came to see Cicero. Willie and the children went driving came back and Dr. and I went, then Iola & sister Phares went riding. The church called brother Phares for another year, he preached in Dyersburg today as there was a camp meeting in progress in Ripley where he preaches regular. Cicero went home on the night train. A warm dry day.

Monday, Aug. 27

Iola and I pealed and cut apples to make preserves, cleaned up the back rooms for Mrs. Harris to move in. I went to see Mrs. Ridings and Mrs. Buck in the afternoon. Iola went to town bought paper to paper the back rooms. Willie and the children came and spent the night as it was threatning a storm and they wer afraid. I read the account of Girtie Jones marring in the Memphis Courier which occured the ninth of August she went to Minisota to marry as her husband was sent to China a Lieutenant. A warm dry day.

Tuesday, Aug. 28

I went to Willies to help sew on Albert some shirts came home finished dinner. Afternoon went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Phares and she gave a treat of ice cream after we quit work I went to see Prof Fraziers child that was very sick. Came home gathered a bushel of red peper, ate supper and went to bed. Mr. & Mrs. Harris moved in our back rooms at three dollars per month. Willie and the children went to Dyersburg on a visit. A dry hot day.

Wednesday, Aug. 29

It rained a little shower this morning. I went to Willies to feed her things, wrote a letter to Sallie and one to Willie & Lula. Brother Boothe came from Tex on a visit. Iola painted part of the day. Mallie & Will came to rent our back rooms but was too late. I read the most of the afternoon. We all went to prayer meeting, subject love for Gods house. We had a good crowd and a very interesting meeting. A little shower of a few minutes.

Thursday, Aug. 30

I went to see a sick child in the forenoon at Mrs. Hicks. Mr. Karns, Allen & Annie came and took dinner with us. In the afternoon Ora Huie and Alice Vaneaton came and sat an hour. I went to see Mrs. Pace and Iola went to see the Grishens and Steel family. Man Pars married Miss Fumbanks today and went to Mr. Ditmors for dinner. Willie came home from a visit to Dyersburg. A short rain fell at four oclock.

Friday, Aug. 31

Iola and I made two gowns for Robert. Iola and Beatrice Grishen went to see a sick child of Mrs. Hicks. We pealed peaches to mak preserves. Cicero and Winfield Gorden came up and stoped here to tell us goodby before going to Jackson to school. Beatrice came up on the train and spent the night to tell us goodby before going to Jackson . Dr. & I went to brother Goodloes to a SS sturdy and song practice. Beatrice Grishen came to see us. Had rain in the afternoon.

Saturday, Sept. 1

Beatrice Cockroft went to Dyersburg on early train after spending the night with us. Dr. went with her to the train. We spent the morning in cooking peach preserves and in mending & cooking. Rufus Clement came and spent the night. I went to see a sick babe of Mr. Hicks, stoped at Willies a while came home and carried Mrs. Phares some apples. Iola & Beatrice went to sit up with the sick babe. Thunder and cloudy but no rain.

Sunday, Sept. 2

We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares giving pictures of different kind of church members. This is Alberts 37th birthday and Willie give him a big dinner and invited us and brother Phares family. I went to Mrs. Paces to see Aunt Zura, came home and read the papers. Mr. Luster a young man died at the Maxwell House. We all went at night to hear brother Phares on being able to give a reason for our hope. A slight rain in the afternoon.

Monday, Sept. 3

Miss Masura and Mrs. Pace spent the morning with us. I wrote a letter to Sallie and read the standard. In the afternoon I mended & Iola painted a while & then went with Beatrice Grishen to see Mrs. Phares. Dr. went to Dyersburg to get read to act as Magistrate eat with Lula. Aunt Zura Frazier went to Willies to spend the night. Beatrice & Cicero went to Jackson to school today. It rained hard for a short time.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

I went to see a sick babe at Mr. Hicks. Iola finished an oil painting. We then filled some cans with peaches. Willie came. I sold a bushel of peaches. Mrs. Phares came a little while. Mr. Porter sent his buggy around to gather up the SS to meet at his house. We had a pleasant meeting. Dr. went with Mr. Gauze to the country to take notes, spilt ink on his cloaths. Iola went with Beatrice to see the sick babe of Mr. Hicks. Sug Dickey married today. The little child died at six oclock. A very warm day dry no rain.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Iola sat up and is sick from it. I did the work and washed carpet rags for the circle. Scott not well has a bowel trouble. I caned a few peaches & strung pepper. Iola went to help shrand the little Hicks babe. Then went with Alli, Beatrice, Lula & Willie to see the triplets in the country. Brother Rody came and brought two of his little girls to spend the night. I staid at home and read the bible. After night we all went to prayer meeting sent the children to Willies, had a good prayer meeting heard that Mattie Romine was sick. Mrs. Park was buried at midnight. A bright warm day, no rain very hot.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Brother Rodie went home early. I am quite sick this morning with my bowels. Iola painted on the negro picture for Sallie. Beatrice Grishen came to tell us about Mattie Romine being sick. I went to Mrs. Paces a little while to sell her some butter. Recieved a letter from Sallie and one from Dr. Brown asking bro Phares to come and hold a meeting at McKenzy, he also had a call to go to Obion & other places. Willie came a short while today. A very warm day.

Friday, Sept. 7

Iola sick with headache all night & still sick this morning. I feel well & can do the work. Sent Scott to town early for headache medicine, he takes the cow to the pasture every morning and not five years old for several months. He is a great help when he will be. Mrs. Wall came after dinner and I went to George McConnels with her. Lula sent us come pares and Iola & Willie pealed them. Iola cut a gown. We all went to brother Phares to SS sturdy and singing. This a hot dry day.

Saturday, Sept. 8

I mad one gallon of pair preserves, then mended until time to get dinner. Brother Phares came to talk to Brother Cauble at Dyersburg. Beatrice Grishen came to hear from Mattie Romine at Tatomville and she was very low and dangerous. Mrs Phares came here to board while brother Phares is holding some protracted meetings. We read the new paper the most of the evening. Dr. Pollod moved in Belle Dickey Williams house and took Mrs. Porter to board. A very warm dry day.

Sunday, Sept. 9

We all went to SS then came home, Mrs. Karens sister and friend came on a visit & spent the day. Willies folks went to Tatonville to see Mattie Romine who was very sick. Recieved a letter from Beatrice C. at Jackson. I spent the afternoon in reading. Mr. McConnell came in a while. Rose & Leona came. Mr.& Mrs. Harris came to see us. A dry warm day.

Monday, Sept. 10

Iola & Willie went the opening of the school. I staid at home to do the housework. The school opened with 4 hundred pupils. In the afternoon Iola & Allie Steel went to Tatomville to see Mattie Romine who was very sick. Mrs. Phares and I cut rags for the sewing circle. Mrs. Wall came in the afternoon to get me to go with her to Hiram McCorkles to spend the day. Mrs. Harris and I went to the field to gather peas for the next day for dinner, saw Mrs. & Mr. Swink, they told us they wer going to leave Newbern because he could get no work to do. A pleasant but dry day.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

Willies family, Iola & Scott went to Dyersburg to a big animal show. Beatrice Grishen came over to see Mrs. Phares about giving her vocal lessons. I telephoned to Tatomville to see how Mattie Romine was and she was worse. Mrs. Bob Walker called to me while I was getting dinner. After dinner Mrs. Phares & I went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Barhams. Mrs. Grishen & Allie Steel called to see us.

Wednesday, Sept. 12

I went Mrs. Wall, Mrs. Dr. McConnell & Jimie to spend the day with Cousin Hiram McCorkles folks, came by cousin John E.s and stoped a while. After supper we all went to prayer meeting. Iola staid at home & kept house. I read of a terable storm in Tex Galvestism suffered greatly said to be two thousand lives lost. Cousin Hiram has two bad risings, carbuncles. Dry dusty, a litte shower in the afternoon.

Thursday, Sept. 13

I had a spell with my bowels but was able to help some about dinner. Mrs. Harris spent the day with Mrs. Goodwin. Mallie Radford at her mothers sick. Distressing news from Galvestern storm 5000 supposed to be killed. I read the religious papers all the time I had. time? Mrs. Phares went to see Mallie at Mrs. Paces. Dr. went to Churchton on business. Iola painted on Sallies birthday present. All the papers full of the Galvestern great distruction. Pleasant but dry no rain.

Friday, Sept. 14

I was much better today than yesterday. Mr. Lance Cockroft a brother of S L Cockroft a baptist preacher from Louisanna took dinner with us. Willie came and sat a while with us. I wrote a letter to Sallie and tore rags for the circle. After supper a crowd met here to sturdy SS and practice singing. Mallie invited us to meet with her through the phone. Mrs. Harris come in to sturdy with us. A light shower fell at five oclock.

Saturday, Sept. 15

Mrs. Jim Radford died this morning at four. I cut and made a pretty dressing sack for Iola. Allie Steel and Esther Inman called in the afternoon. Willie and children spent the night with us last night. Brother Phares came home from Halls where he has been in a meeting. Mrs. Phares went home. Five thousand drowned at Galveston. A dry warm day.

Sunday, Sept. 16

We all went to SS, then to hear Mr. Jim Radfords wife funeral preached at the M E church. Brother Phares call in his appointment. Rev. King preached the funeral. A girl was born to Mr. & Mrs. Allen Crenshaw today. Dr. & Iola went to Mrs. Grishens. I staid at home and read the Christian Standard. Mrs. Harris brother and family came from Reeves. It rained a little in the afternoon. We all went to church at night to hear brother Phares.

Monday, Sept. 17

I went to Willies after getting through with morning work helped her gather butterbeans. Came home and cooked dinner then went to mending. After dinner Mrs. Holland & her daughter from St. Louis called also Willie spent the afternoon. Rec. a letter from Sallie at Sherman Tex. Beatrice Grishen came by after buying a new dress for Mrs. Phares and giving it to her. I am real nervous for the first time in life. Iola & I went to Mattie Browns sat until bed time. This a very cold day fire feels good.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

Iola & I cut potato vines for the cow after getting through with morning work. After dinner I went to Mrs. Grishens to the sewing circle, came home and Dr. and I went to brother Rodies and spent the night. Iola did the work and went to Willies to spend the night. Dr. and I have arranged to go to Kenton to spend a few days. Lizzie Ve. Cockroft was baptised. Put up the stove this morning. Very cool.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Dr. and I spent the night with Rodie and started to Kenton and at eleven oclock we reached brother Rufus house, ate dinner and Dr. and brother Rufus went to Kenton and I staid with sister Mollie and worked names on the church quilt. Brother Rufus and Mollie gave me their names on the quilt. Della Barker married today. A cool day. Rained at night.

Thursday, Sept. 20

We went to brother Henrys in the morning, ate dinner and Dr. and brother Henry went to Kenton. We spent the night and I worked on the quilt names. Brother Henry was working for McDowel for Floater against Mr. Gorden so he distributed his speeches all day. Iola staid at home and did the work, Mrs. Phares staid with her. Rained in the morning.

Friday, Sept. 21

Dr., sister Mollie and I went to Jack Clements to spend the day, this is the first time I had ever seen his wife, they had a good dinner and we enjoyed the day finely. Jack staid in to talk to me until time to go and take his club beef to the butcher. He gave me his and Daisys name for the quilt. Dr. and I then went to Zelas house to spend the night. Iola & Mrs. Phares staid at home. It rained all night.

Saturday, Sept. 22

Dr. and I wer to go to brother Ed Davies to spend the day but it was raining too hard, so Dr. and Allie Hurt went and they with brother Henry took dinner with brother Ed. I staid with Zela and helped her to make a dress for my namesake. I almost finished a pillow sham for her. Dr. and I then went to brother Henrys and spent the night. Iola still at home keeping house for me. It rained all day.

Sunday, Sept. 23

Dr. and I started as soon as we could get ready after breadfast to come home from brother Henrys, stoped at brother Rufus to tell them goodby, came on and landed at Yorkville at twelve oclock, ate dinner with brother Joe. Staid until time to get home reached home at five in the afternoon, found all well and Mrs. Phares here with Iola and Willie and Albert gone to see Mrs. Capelle. Dr. washed the buggy as it was Willies. No rain all day.

Monday, Sept 24

I wrote a ten page letter to Sallie and read some, then gathered up things for dinner. Iola painted on the negro picture. I went to Willies in the afternoon. Mrs Capelle was there. Brother Phares came home so sister Phares went home. We gathered pop corn, sat out pear trees that brother Henry gave me at his house at Kenton. A dry pleasant day.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

I wrote a ten page letter to Lizzie Blanks, gathered dry butterbeans. Help to cook dinner. After dinner I went to Willies to the sewing circle. After we ajourned Iola & Willie went to Mrs Phares to carry the money. Brother Phares was sent for to go to Obion to baptise a man and preach at night. So sister Phares came back to spend the night with us. A dry pleasant day.

Wednesday, Sept. 26

Willie and Iola went to Yorkville to spend the day. I wrote a ten page letter to Cicero, cooked dinner and worked on napkins. After dinner I went to Mrs. Arnetts a while then to see Lucy Pace. Wrote items for the Newbern paper. Mallie & Will moved back to the Pace house. On the way home the grey mare became frightened and scared Iola and Willie very bad. Iola, Dr. and I went to prayer meeting. Subject obedience a test of faith. A warm bright day.

Thursday, Sept. 27

Mr. Polk Harris died the mornig at five thirty. We telephoned to Lula and she said they wer coming to the funeral. Scott was quite sick for several hours this morning. After dinner I rested a while then went to see Manassa Harris in her troubles. Stoped to see Mrs. Shoemate and Mrs. Dr. McConnell. Willie spent the afternoon and made Ludith a shirt. Iola worked on a negro picture. After supper Dr. went to town to finish the invoice of implements. A more pleasant day.

Friday, Sept. 28

Iola and Willie went to Polk Harris funeral at the residence, there was a very large crowd. The school marched by grades in procession to the domitory. Cousin Mary McCorkle came from the funeral to see me. In the afternoon Iola & Beatrice Grishen went to see Mrs. Pace and Minnie Jones who was expected to die and did at ten oclock at night. I staid with the children and finished up a nice gown. Willie and Iola went calling to Mrs. Will & John Whites also to see Mrs. Pate. After supper we all went to Mr. Grishens to a singing and SS sturdy, had a large crowd and a good time Cloudy but no rain.

Saturday, Sept. 29

I mended the most of the morning on stocking & c. In the afternoon Mrs. Thomsons and Lum Inmans wife called to see us. I went with them to see Mrs Mat Pace & Jennett Jones as her daughter Minnie had just died. I came by to see Mollie Pace Radford. Sister Phares came to board while brother Phares went stateline to preach. It rained in the morning turned cool in the afternoon.

Sunday, Sept. 30

We all went to SS then to the funeral of Minnie Jones at the Cumberland church. I came home & cooked dinner and churned. After dinner Iola & I went to see Dr. Williams sick girl Fannie then went to Mrs. Holts and sat with them a while, came by Mrs. Goodwin and she came home with us and sat until bedtime. Willie was selected to help in the singing at the CP church. There was a large crowd out all the SS suspended and went. A cool day but fair.

Monday, Oct. 1

Iola, Willie, Maggie & Scott went to Dyersburg today for Willie to get some pictures of herself. Fannie Arnett, Beatrice and Mrs. Harris came in and sat with me. I wrote a twelve page letter to Sallie today. Willie telephoned they would spend the night with Lula. Charlie came to see me and moved his trunk here to go to Tex. Dr. went to court at Dyersburg. A bright pleasant day.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

Willie & Iola still in Dyersburg. I did the morning work, cleaned Dr. cloaths & mended. Beatrice came and staid a while. In the afternoon the sewing circle met with us. Mrs. Harris came in and helped us in our circle work. Last night Mr. Holt was drunk on the street & waisting his money that his poor wife and children needed very bad for the winter. Ludith and Mary spent the two days & nights with us. Iola and Willie had some pictures mad and came home at dark. This a pleasant day bright & clear.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

I suffered with my arm very much today. We cut Iola a dressing sack. Willie and Beatrice came. Mrs. Phares not very well. Mrs. Harris went to town and had her teeth filled them came in and worked on our church quilt. Mrs. Ridings not well and borrowed my cabinate bath and was very much benefited by its use. A letter from brother Phares saying the Anties left the house where he went in to preach at State Line church. A very pleasant day.

Thursday, Oct. 4

I went out to get a club for the Standard Designer. I soon made a club then sent the order for four names, wrote a letter to sister Alice tell her I could not come to the Reunion at Glass as she had invited Dr. and I to be shure to come. I had recieved a letter from Mrs. Bob Blanks saying she would be here to spend the night, Friday. We worked on Iolas dressing sack. A long letter from Sallie asking Iola to come and spend a month. A bright pleasant day.

Friday, Oct. 5

Willie and Maggie went with Albert to Yorkville & Kenton. Sister Phares recieved a letter from brother Phares at State line. I am better and working for Iola. Bob Blanks and family spent the night with us on their way to Tiptonville. The children had a big time. Rose Blackwood came to see us about getting up the State Missions. It rained a shower at 4:30.

Saturday, Oct. 6

Bob Blanks and family left early to to see his brother at Tiptonville within two hours they came back, their horse gave down. Hance Blanks came to meet them. They had to spend the night again. After supper Bob went to the hotel to spend the night with his brother Hance. We all staid at home with Stella and the children. Iola wrote to Sallie. It began raining at 6 oclock.

Sunday, Oct. 7

Bob Blanks and family left for Reelfoot. We all then went to SS. Dr. stoped to see Mr. Grishen and took dinner with him & collected mission money for the state work. I staid at home all the afternoon and read. Mrs. Phares talked to brother Phares at State line. Iola went to Willies and staid a while. The baptist meeting began today. It rained and turned cool.

Monday, Oct. 8

Iola and Willie went to town. Iola bought a cape and a hat, a calico for me & goods to make Sallie a suit. Beatrice Grishen came. I wrote a twelve page letter to Sallie. Mattie McGee came for me to cut her a dress. Dr. sent the State money to Brother Phares. After supper Brother Phares came and spent the night. Cloudy and cold no rain.

Tuesday, Oct. 9

Iola and I made a little dress for Sallie. I then went to the baptist church to hear Ross More preach, the sermon was good. I came by town and bought goods for a little skirt. After dinner Iola & I went to Mattie Browns to meet the sewing circle. Story Harris has the slow fevor. I talked to Lula over the phone twice today. Brother Phares went to Clarksville to a state convention, sister Phares boarding with us. I met Mrs. Copeland at church. Dr., Iola and Mrs. Harris went to preaching at the baptist church. Cool and clear.

Wednesday, Oct. 10

I went to town early bought triming for a little skirt for Sallie, made it and sent it and a dress on the evening train. Iola had headache but made Scott a waist. In the afternoon Mrs. Pace sent for me to go to see Vergie who was sick. I came home and found Mag McCorkle here, after she left Dr., Mrs. Harris and I went to the baptist church. Ive heard that Marshall McConnell & Hattie wer to be married. It rained all night not raining this morning.

Thursday, Oct. 11

I am not well. Iola not well. Beatrice came in. Mrs. Harris came in and I helped her make a skirt. Dr. wrote a letter to Sallie and sent her twenty five dollars the first help given her since she was married. Mary staid at home as it was raining. I talked to Lula over the fone. Mrs. Pace very sick not expected to live B. Cloudy but no rain.

Friday, Oct. 12

I helped Mrs. Harris on a plad skirt, wrote a letter to Sallie, read the most of the day. Willie and Maggie came and sat with us. Dr. went to Willies after supper, Iola and Mrs. Harris went to the baptist to hear Ross More. Story Harris down with slow fevor. Mrs Phares and I staid at home to keep the children. Damp & cloudy misting some.

Saturday, Oct. 13

Alice Jones and Ada Ridings came. I cut myself a calico dress. Iola helped me to stich on it. We cooked cakes and custards for Sunday. Brother Phares came from the convention and went to Obion to begin a meeting. Sister Phares still with us. This is Sallies 22 birthday. Allie Steel came, Beatrice Grishen, Alice & Ada. Rufus Clement came to spend the night went to church. Warmer and bright sun light.

Sunday, Oct. 14

Iola & Scott have very bad colds. I am not at all well, yet we went to SS. All the church gave way and went to the baptist church to the protracted meeting. Willie and Albert came in & sat a while with us. We all, Iola, Willie, Ada, Lula G, Dr. & Albert to see Marshal McConnell & Hattie Sharp married, Brother Phares being gone, Mr. Buckhannon performed the seremony. I went to see Mrs. Pace. Brother Phares began a meeting at Obion. A bright pleasant day

Monday, Oct. 15

Iola and Willie went to town trading, took Eula Phares to get a large picture for her granma. In the afternoon I went to see Story Harris while there the corpse of Mrs. Denis Golden passed a long prosession followed. Iola cut par of calico dress and sewed all the afternoon then she, Ada & Beatrice went to the baptist church. Mrs. Phares & I went to see Mrs. Ridings. Bright pleasant day little cool.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

Mary was taken quite sick this morning. Staid at home with fevor. Iola sewed on a waist for Scott. I went to Willies to see Mary and worked on my dress. In the afternoon Iola, sister Phares and I went to Allie Steels to meet the sewing circle. An afflicted lady came around selling save to cure all kind of sores, several of us bought of her. This is Dr. McCorkles 63rd birthday. Sister Phares & I went to see Willies sick. A bright but cool day.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

I cut a calico rapper for Iola and helped her to make it so she could go to Obion with Ada & Beatrice. Mr. Bob Blanks and family came in the afternoon and spent the night with us. His horse gave down and he hired one from the stable to go home. Blithe Gentry went to bring him home. Mr. Heron died today. The electric lights gave out for a week. bright and cool.

Thursday, Oct. 18

Iola went to town & bought a new flannel waist and kid gloves to go to Obion. Beatrice Grishen came. I finished Iolas rapper. Mr. Blanks folks went home. I gave Iola five dollars on this her twenty fifth birthday and Willie gave her a silver dollar. Iola, Beatrice G. & Ada R. went to Obion to hear brother Phares preach & to visit sister Alice & Eudora. Sister Phares still boarding with us. Mr. Richmon Herron was buried at Poplar grove today. Bright & cool.

Friday, Oct. 19

Iola was gone and Mrs. Phares cleaned the house for me. I finished my new calico dress & called on Mrs. Moodys mother. Willie went with Susie Capell to Dyersburg to get a curtific(certificte) to teach a free school. Lula and family came up with them to spend the night with us. Alice Jones took supper here. Witt McDearman took her home. Bright and cool.

Saturday, Oct 20

We had five rows of sweet potatoes gathered in the morning. Willie and Lula went to see Massassa Harris. The children took dinner with Willie. Lula with me. I gave Lula some sweet & irish potatoes to carry home with her and the children some popcorn also two hens and one rooster all Indian game. She foned me she reached home all OK with four little children and a wild team. Bright in the morning cloudy in the afternoon.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Iola in Obion. Rose taught her class in Sunday School. Dr., Scott and I went to SS. Brother Brown preached in brother Phares place today and went home with Albert Rodgers. Dr. went up to Albert after dinner Scott with him I staid at home to read and write. I have a bad cough. Iola and the girls, Ada & Beatrice came home from Obion at night. Cloudy but no rain up to two oclock.

Monday, Oct 22

I rote a letter to Sallie, then mended. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Arnett as she was suffering with her sore limb. Dr. was appointed with others to meet Gov McMillen and take him to the hotell. Dr. came home and dressed up in his best to meet him. After supper they all went to the opera to hear the speech from the governer. Mrs. Harris sat with us while Mr. Harris went to the democrat speaking. Bright and cool.

Tuesday, Oct. 23

I cut a rapper for Willie today. Iola give the house a general cleaning, scoured the cookroom. I helped Mrs. Harris on a dress. After dinner we all went to Mrs. Ridings to neet with the sewing circle. Iola and sister Phares called to see Mrs. Arnett as she was sick. My arm is troubling me very much from rumatism. Iola & Scott went to Willies after supper. Mrs. Swink looking for a house in West Newbern. Bright and warm.

Wednesday, Oct. 24

I read most all day as my arm was so painful. Worked some on Scotts waist and Willies rapper. Iola and Willie went to Mrs. Capells to get rose cuttings and to Dr. McConnells for raspberrie plants. I had old Spencer to plant bermuder grass under the fence to hold the dirt from washing. Lula telephoned that little Thelmer had the hooping cough and several babes had died with it. We all went to prayer meeting. Warm and cloudy.

Thursday, Oct. 25

I have suffered with my arm and bowels but able to do my regular house work. Iola sat out raspberrie plants and read ladies home journal. Willie and Iola went to town to do some trading for sister Phares. Mrs. Harris made a rapper on my machine. Dr. had our sweet potatoes dug today by two negros & he closed the door of the store to see after it. Mollie Taylors child died and they foned for Dr. or brother Phares to come to talk at the grave. I went to see Mrs. Pace a while. Warm and cloudy in the afternoon.

Friday, Oct. 26

Iola helped Mrs. Phares made four pillow cases. I did the morning work as usual but suffered more with by bowels and cotar(?). I helped Iola cut and make two pair of drawers. Willie and Mr. Walker went in the rain to Callie Capells to spend the day. Mrs. Phares recieved an invitation to Less Trice marriage. Porter Shoemate weding cards out today. Brother Phares came home from his meeting at Obion had nine additions to the church. Iola, Dr. & brother Phares went to singing. A rainy day.

Saturday, Oct. 27

Dr. & Iola drove the hogs to the potato patch. Iola stoped at Mrs. Grishens. Iola and Willie called on Pattie Youre. Beatric & Pattie came here in the afternoon. Dr. dressed up to meet Carmack as he was on the reception committee. The town made a great parade and display with flags and band of music marched to meet Carmac coming from Dyersburg. The hand organ and monkey came to see the children. A crowd went to hear Carmac from here Willie, Iola, Beatrice and others. Raining in the morning no rain in the afternoon.

Sunday, Oct. 28

We all went to SS. Dr. & cousin Finis went to hear King at the M.E. Church. Finis came home with Dr. for dinner. Mrs. Grishen, Florence and Allie came in the afternoon to see us. Then Iola went with them to see sister Phares. Dr. took supper with Willie and Iola went to spend the night with Mrs. Phares. Lula Barker married Will Casot. A bright pleasant day no fire needed.

Monday, Oct. 29

I worked on Drs cloaths and wrote to Sallie. I then counted and sorted the stamps that I had been saving for several years and found that I had over four thousand. Rose came in the afternoon and gave me some stamps. Iola read a temperence book. Dr. sold some lots to some negros. Scott maled my letter to Sallie and staid a while in town. Brother Phares came to settle for sister Phares board. I only charged she and babe two dollars per month which was twelve dollars, this I gave him for preaching. A fair pleasant day.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

Dr. and Scott sorted potatoes. Iola and Willie went to town. I staid at home and read & cooked dinner. Mr. Radford brough a deed for me to sign. Beatrice Grishen came in a while. Iola and I met with the sewing circle at Mrs. Barhams, came home and went to see Mrs. Walker as she was sick. Iola sent two oil painting to Sallie for a birthday present. Dr. sold a lot and went late in the afternoon to measure it. Dr. Williams daughter relapsed is not expected to live. Mrs. Pace worse. This a bright pleasant day a little cool rained at night.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

I am suffering awful with that old bowel trouble ulceration I think. Dr. & Iola sorting sweet potatoes. Willie came in the morning and again in the afternoon went to Callie Capel, then stoped to see us. I gave her a bushel of sweet potatoes. Recieved a letter and a bundle of papers from Sallie telling us of a lawsuit with Mr. Reeves and the school board of Sherman. Lula foned to us that Thelmer was better of the hooping cough and Robert was taking it. Iola and Dr. went to prayer meeting. A bright morning a little cool. It rained at four oclock very hard.

Thursday, Nov. 1

Last night Will Whitmore & Martha Haskins drove up the christian church and called brother Phares out and was married. Bob Walker and Winnie Bradshaw was married last night. Rose Blackwood & Beatrice call and I gave Rose some potatoes. Iola also gave Mrs. Ridings some potatoes. Iola went to Willies. I sent items to the paper. There was quite a talking over the town about the marriages. I cut a rapper for Iola, finished up the napkins for the circle and sent them to Mrs. Barhams. Dr. went to a meeting of the school board. Iola & Willie went to town and to Mollie Radfords. I sent potatoes to Mag. & sent potaoes to Mrs. Holt. A bright cool day.

Friday, Nov. 2

I helped Iola on her dress. I suffered all the morning severe pain in my bowels, finished a letter to Lizzie Blanks and read the Newbern paper. Mrs. Harris went to Willies. Iola set out rose cuttings. The crowd met here for the singing and SS sturdy. Twins wer born to Mrs. Spates a girl and boy. Mr. Riding went to Illinois to be gone a month or more. Some frost but bright and cool.

Saturday, Nov. 3

This a bad day for me, suffered with my bowels about all night. Mrs. Lucy Pace came to see me this morning. Ada called to our fone by a Mr. Parnell. Iola baking for Sunday. Willie sent us a jar of mixed pickle. Comp settled his butter bill $1.80. Brother Phares came to see me. A Saturday night was then enjoyed before retiring. A bright cold day frost last night.

Sunday, Nov. 4

We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares preach. Dr. went home with Mr. Parker to dinner to give him a talk about his staying away from SS and keeping the children. I am not well but went to church. Iola went to see Mrs. Phares this afternoon. Cousin Mag & Mada came a while to see us, brother Phares preach subject Pleaure that hurt. It was a fine semon. Mrs. Harris mother & father came. A very bright day a little cold.

Monday, Nov. 5

I wrote three letters one to Sallie twelve pages long, one to Charlie Allen 4 pages, one to Lula Cockroft 4 pages. I called on Mrs. Harriss mother in my back rooms. Mary came home sick. Dr. and Iola went to see Mary. Beatrice G. came and told us that Burt Garritt and his wife had parted also Jim Faircloth and his wife had parted. I worked on the circle quilt and read the rest of the afternoon. Mrs. Shoemate called me up and and talked to me about Poters Marriage and cake baking in the forenoon. A bright cool day.

Tuesday, Nov. 6

Mrs. Harris and her mother Mrs. Thomson from Trimble. I himed two winter shirts and read. Iolas suffering until time to go to Dr. McConnels to the sewing circle then we boath went. Dr. went to see Cap Williams then acted as judge in the Presidential election all day from home. I went to see Capt. Williams on my way from the circle. I went to carry the monry to sister Phares. Dr. staid in town until eleven oclock at night. a bright cool day.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

I had a bad time washed my bowels with nitrate of silver and has to lie on bed most all day. Mr. Heath took dinner with us. Dr. sold a lot to a negro. Dr. bought a pair of brown shoes at Rosenblooms. Iola had the stoves put up and she polished them. Willie came to see me. Porter Shoemate and Pauline are to be married tonight. Iola, Dr. went to prayer meeting. I staid with Scott & read. A cool day but no rain.

Thursday, Nov. 8

I cut carpet rags for the circle all the morning. Beatrice Grishen came in a while. We killed two hogs today. Iola and I took off the lard. Mr. Shoemate gave a dining to Porter and Pauline. Dr., Mr. Williams & Milan run off(survey?) the school yard. Willie came and went to town to buy winter underwear for her family. I am better today. Scott is reading in his first reader at five years old. Dr. went to town to meet S. board. A bright cold day.

Friday, Nov. 9

This is a bad day for me. Dr. staid at home to help dry lard and make sausage. Iola out all day helping. Had two negros wemen and one man to salt it down. We made 5 gals off two hogs. brother Phares came to see me. Several came for milk. Willie came and went to Capells left Maggie here. Iola and I sent a letter to Sallie. I read when I was not on bed. Scotts birthday 5 years old. I sent fresh meat to several of the neighbors. Dr. & Iola went to Mollies to a singing. A very cold day big frost last night.

Saturday, Nov. 10

I helped about the work and finished up a tidy for my rocker. Beatrice Grishen and Iola went to see Mrs. Pace whom everyone thought would die soon. Beatrice & Cicero went home on a visit from Jackson school. I read all our papers, saw in Dyersburg paper that Dr. Nick Walker was married to a lady in Paduca Ky. Iola carried some sausage and ribs to sister Phares. A cold day it snowed at eleven oclock real hard.

Sunday, Nov. 11

I was not well enough to go to SS. Dr., Iola & Scott went. Mrs. Harris came in to set with me. In the afternoon sister Phares, Ada Ridings, Beatrice & Lula Grishen, Rose & Leona Blackwood, Mrs. Goodwin & Mrs. Harris all came to see me. Albert & Willie also came. Iola went to see Mrs. Pace she was very sick and sent for Dr. Sherrel. Later in the afternoon Iola went to Comp Arnetts a little while. Iola & Beatrice went to sister Phares to spend the night as brother Phares was gone to Halls. I heard that brother Rufus house was burned. I wrote him a letter. A cloudy cool day.

Monday, Nov. 12

Ellen Goodloe call to see me. Beatrice Grishen came. Mrs. Harris went to Mrs. Goodwins to spend the day. Annie McCorkle came from Yorkville trading and took dinner with us. Iola and Beatrice wen to see Lucy Pace as she was sick. Willie came to see me a while then went to see Mrs. Glass sick child. I talked to Lula over the fone, the babe has hooping cough and no better. I wrote to Sallie. Mrs Pace no better. Iola went to Mrs. Grishens. Estell went home with Annie to Yorkville. A light cool and a big frost and ice at night.

Tuesday, Nov. 13

Dr. McCorkle went to Union City to finish settling the estate of my father, T.P. Clement. Willie came to see us had written several letters to be maled. I am some better today than I have been. Mrs. Goodwin came and went with us to the circle at Willies. Mrs. Osa Pardon came in to meet with us for the first time. Mr. Numan put in a new window in our cookroom. Dr. returned from his trip to Union City and went to town to meet with school board. a bright cool day.

Wednesday, Nov 14

I read almost all the morning, then helped about dinner. Willie came and went to town trading. After dinner I read until three then went to see Mrs. Lucy Pace who was sick. Mr. Manarsa Harris came while I was gone. I sold a carpet to a negro for one dollar. Iola made Scott a new waist. Willie came in the afternoon. I not being well staid at home and kept Scott and read while Dr. and Iola went to church to prayer meeting Scott read. A bright day.

Thursday, Nov. 15

Mary was sick and I went to see her in the morning and finished up her quilt. Came home and helped Iola cook dinner. Mr. Roop took dinner with us looking out for a house of business. I went to see Mrs. Pace in the afternoon. Iola went to Willies and sewed on a waist for Scott. After supper Dr. and Scott went to see Mary and Iola went to get Mrs. Conner to make her a waist. I staid and read the papers and my bible. Mrs. Harris sat with me in the afternoon a while. A bright cool day.

Friday, Nov. 16

I suffered from four oclock until noon then again in the afternoon was on bed the most of the day. Rec a letter from Sallie and one from Mattie Clement. Iola and Mrs. Harris went to see sister Phares in the morning. Iola and Willie went calling in the afternoon. Willies children staid with me. I read in the morning and worked on Iolas waist in the afternoon. Belle Dick and Silos Norvell married at Union City. Iola and Mrs. Harris went to the singing at Cadie Hamett. Mrs. Phares sat with me until bedtime. A bright pleasant day.

Saturday, Nov. 17

Iola went to Willies to help put out bulbs. Brother Johnson, A.P. came to see us on way to Bogoda to preach and took dinner also the man that came to meet him. Ludith gathered up the waist iron and sold it. Willie and the children came to see A.P. Johnson. Ludith sold his iron for one dollar and forty cts. After supper we took our bath after reading until bed time. A bright pleasant day.

Sunday, Nov. 18

We wer all able to go to SS and to hear brother Phares preach. Rob Pace and Dr. Griffin married at ten oclock this morning by her mothers request as she was expecting to die. Mrs. Paten came to see me in the afternoon. I wrote to Sallie. Iola calls to see Mrs. Phares. Dr. went to see brother Dun on church business. Hurbert Scott took supper with us on his way to his school at Glass. We all went to hear bro. Phares. A bright warm day.

Monday, Nov. 19

I helped Iola make Scott a pair of pants, worked on a quilt for the circle. Willie and I went to see sister Phares in the afternoon. Iola went to Mrs. Grishens a little while to see Esther Inman. Cousin Sallie Scott and her niece spent the night with us on their way to see Dimple her daughter in Tex. Dr. went to the school house to attend a trial of one of the teachers by the school board, staid until 12 oclock. The bord retained(?) the teacher. Raining all night & this morning.

Tuesday, Nov. 20

Iola and Willie went to town trading. Jannie Haskins Bain came to see me. I finished pants for Scott and also a waist. Dr. went to the train with cousin Sallie then went to his work in town. Iola wrote a letter to Mrs. Dr. Simmons. After dinner we all, Willie, Iola, Mrs. Harris and I went to Mrs. Goodwins to the sewing circle and it rained all this afternoon. We had to come home through the rain. I talked to Lula through the fone and she wanted some of us to come to hear Bob Taylor lecture. It rained all night and in the morning.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

Willie came over early. Iola went to see Hattie Sharp to get some rapper patrons. Mrs. Mat Pace died last night at 10 oclock. I opened a barrel of flower this morning. I cooked a hoghead and divided it with Willie and Mrs. Harris and had plenty for two days. Mrs. Pace was buried at the Cemetery today. We cut and nearly finished a rapper for Iola. After supper we all went to prayer meeting. Brother Phares gave a good talk on the church at Ephesars a very good warning for us all. A bright pleasant day.

Thursday, Nov. 22

We arose at five to get Iola off on the early train to Dyersburg to hear Bob Taylor lecture. The train was two hours late. Annie Biffle came to see Iola and she was gone. Mrs. Kinkle came to see me and paid for two sets of napkins bought from the sewing circle. Dr. & I took dinner at Willies. Beatrice Grishen came to see us. She foned Iola to meet her at Dyersburg depot and she would go down. I went to see Lucy Pace and Mrs. Phares. A show in town Willie, Albert, Mary & Ludith went Mr. & Mrs. Harris. Dr in town answering a bill against sernitary. I staid at home with Maggie and read. A bright warm day.

Friday, Nov. 23

Brother Phares came up to examine the church books. Mrs. Harris came in and talked a long time with me. Maggie spent the night with us. Bob Taylor lecture for the ladies of the baptist church made over two hundred dollars. Mr. Karns took dinner with us. Iola and Beatrice still in Dyersburg. Rec a letter from Sallie, Mag, Lizzie Blanks & Aunt Katie Simmons. Ellen Goodwin came to tell us goodby to go to Ky. Dr., Mr. & Mrs Harris went to the singing at Goodmans. Rained in the night and all morning.

Saturday, Nov. 24

Iola and Beatrice Grishen returned from Dyersburg in the rain. Our home leaked badly this rain. I wrote fourteen pages to Sallie today, mended and waited on Iola. Beatrice Grishen came to use the fone and staid quite a while. This has been a very rany week. Dr. buisy getting up a bill to answer the one against Semitary. Scoby and Williams are the lawyers emploid. Iola sick on bed all day took medicin. Rained all night and all morning.

Sunday, Nov. 25

Iola on bed sick. Dr., Scott and I went to SS. Brother Phares gave a talk on the lesson. Jira Jones called for Dr. and he went to see him at Rob Jones house. Brother Phares came and brough some Jeloten to Iola. I read and wrote a letter to Lizzie Blanks. Ludith had a chill at SS and fevor all the afternoon. After supper Dr. and I went to see Mr. & Mrs. Harris. Albert came to see us. I am not so well today suffered all day. Rained & snowed all the morning.

Monday, Nov. 26

Mr. Cockroft took breakfast with us. Willie, Beatrice & Ada came in a while. I sent Scott to male letter to Lizzie Blanks. We killed two hogs today. Iola went to town and bought a pair of 3.00 shoes. Mr. Jira Jones and Mr. Cockroft took supper with us. Willie had two hogs killed. We all killed together and attended to the lard ourselves. Mr. cockroft went home on the 8:30 train. Mrs. Harris sister came today. A bright cool day.

Tuesday, Nov. 27

Iola went to Mrs. Phares to take her some fresh meat. We hired a negro man to help render lard and mak sausage. I suffered in the morning but was able to help in the afternoon. I filled thirteen sacks with sausage. Jira Jones spent the night with us. Iola went to town then to the sewing circle. I felt real bad late in the afternoon. I have twenty five gallon of lard. Dr. was called to his office twice. We are selling Comp Arnett four lbs of butter every week. A bright cool day.

Wednesday, Nov. 28

Beatrice Grishen came. Mrs. Harris and her sister came to see us. In the afternoon Mrs. Copeland & Allie Steel came to see me. I cut Iola two pair of cotton flannel drawers she made pair then gave the house a general cleaning, cooked supper then she, Dr. and Mrs. Copeland also Willie family called and all went to prayer meeting. I was not well so Scott and I staid at home and read and wrote a letter to Sallie. A bright pleasant day.

Thursday, Nov. 29

I went with Mrs. Copeland to see Mrs. Pace. Came home and helped Willie dress a doll for Mary to carry to a thanksgiving dinner at Mattie Belle Shoemates in the afternoon. I finished a letter to Sallie. Iola and Willie went to town trading. Mrs. Shoemate sent me some of her dinner. I staid at home and mended and read all the afternoon. Beatrice G. came in to see me then went to see brother Phares. Dr. Mc went to see brother Phares several times he was sick. A bright cool day.

Friday, Nov. 30

Recieved a telephone that sister Alice was dead. Lula came to see us and to go to the burial. Ada R. came Beatrice G. and sister Phares. Brother Phares decided to temain in Newbern. Collierville congregation doging all they could to get him to preach for them, offered $800 and a house to live in. Annie & brother Joe spent the night with us. A bright cool day.

Saturday, Dec. 1

We all wer up soon after four oclock to get ready to go with the corpose of sister Alice to the McCorkle Cemetery. Willies family, Lulas family & Iola & Dr. all went. I was not able for the trip. Mrs. Harris kept Lulas babe. I wrote a letter to Sallie while all wer gone. Lulas folks left at 3:30. I gave her some fresh meat and sweet potatoes to take home. After supper Mrs. Grishen and Allie Steel came to see us and sat until bedtime. A bright cool day.

Sunday, Dec. 2

Iola, Dr. & Scott went to SS. I was not able. I suffered all day, was very bilious. In the afternoon Mrs. Folks, Mrs. Ridings, Ada Rose, Mrs. Goodwin, Mrs. Harris and her sister came to see me later Mag Finis & little Mada came. Dr. & Iola went to church. Mrs. Gosby was baptised. Maggie, Mary & Scott staid at home with me as I was too sick to go. Mary read and wrote an essay on kindness for her lesson Monday. A bright pleasant day.

Monday, Dec. 3

Beatrice Grishen and Mrs. Goodman came to see me today. Iola was getting ready to go to see Sallie but decided I was too sick for her to leave. I read the most of the day. Capt. Williams very low. Brother King the M.E. preacher came to see us. Mollie Brown came a little while . After supper Iola and Mrs. Harris went to see Mrs. Phares as she was sick. A cloudy rainy day.

Tuesday, Dec. 4

At 12 oclock last night a fine boy was born to brother & sister Phares. Iola and Mrs. Harris staid with her until one oclock. This morning Iola went out to get a club for the Ladies Home Journal. Sewing circle met here. Dr. & Iola went to see Mr. & Mrs. Porter after supper I went to see sister Phares. At eight oclock Miss Roberson and Mr. Rowlet was married by brother King in our parlor. A cloudy damp day.

Wednesday, Dec. 5

The sewing circle deposited $20.00 in the bank today. Iola went to see Mrs. Phares this morning. I read all the morning. Mrs. Sallie Beech came to see me. Beatrice G. and Willie came in and gave us some music. Iola and Scott went to town and she bought some oranges Scott has fevor. After supper the bride & groom came in & sat a while. Iola and Dr. went to prayer meeting. I staid and read with Scott. A bright pleasant day.

Thursday, Dec. 6

I cut myself a calico rapper. Iola went to see Mrs. Phares and help dress the babe. Scott a little sick so I staid with him. Beatrice Grishen came in a while. Mrs. Harris kept Eula Phares as her mama could not. I worked a piece for Willie this is her 31 birthday. Iola helped me sew on my rapper. Beatrice came for Iola to go with her to get up money to buy brother Phares a baptisma suit for a Christmas present. Iola was not able to go. I took a steam bath after supper. A bright pleasant day.

Friday, Dec. 7

I finished up my rapper with Iolas help. Iola & Mrs. Harris worked on paper flowers all the afternoon. Dr. went to Dyersburg on business. Mrs. Billy Porter spent the afternoon wirth us. I churned & Iola fed and milked as Dr. was gone. It was too bad for any of to go to the singing. The wind was blowing hard and cold. I was not able and Iola had no one to go with her. Cloudy & cold.

Saturday, Dec. 8

Iola went to sister Phares to help wait the little babe. Scott some better no fevor. Willie had her cistern cleaned and filled from the hidron by Mr. Rob Montgomery. Iola and Mrs. Harris worked on paper flowers made some very pretty ones. Beatrice came in to see us. I wrote a letter to Sallie and made a crazy chair tidy for Mary Rodgers to give to her Mother for a Christmas present. Brother came Cora Townson came to see us. A bright cold day.

Sunday, Dec. 9

Iola was sick and could not go to SS. Dr., Scott & I went. In the afternoon Dr. went to see Maggie as she was sick. I went to see Mrs. Phares. Brother Phares went to Halls to preach and carried Eula. I went to see Mrs. Pace. Mr. Pace was at home. Albert came & sat with us, gave Dr. an overcoat. Iola & Dr. studied the diferent routs to Sherman. I read until bedtime. Mrs. Pardon was buried today. A bright cold day.

Monday, Dec. 10

I read in the morning. Iola went to Mrs. Phares to help wait on the babe. In the afternoon we made Scott a waist & I worked on Marys tidy. Mrs. Blair came to see me who lived in Chatanoga. Mr. Ridings, Grishens, McConnells & Baz Brown killed hogs. Mr. Heathe worked part of the day in recovering our house. I am much better after taking steam baths. Bright & cold.

Tuesday, Dec. 11

I went to Willie early and framed a quilt to be quilted by the ladies of the sewing circle. Iola & I took dinner with Willie. Dr. took dinner with brother Phares. We finished the quilt and bound it. Willie paid the circle 75 cts for it. We took a negro boy to board for his work night and morning. Iola went to spend the night with Mrs. Phares to wait on the sick babies. A bright cool day.

Wednesday, Dec. 12

Iola & Willie went to town trading. Mrs. Harris went to see sister Phares. I staid at home to Dr myself not so well today. Finished a letter to Sallie. The negro broke a lamp the first morning. Iola bought a black dress and gave $6.00 for it. Iola made paper flowers in the afternoon. Sara Aca brought a quilt and gave it to the church or S. circle. Iola, Dr. and Mrs. Harris went to prayer meeting. A bright cool day.

Thursday, Dec. 13

Iola made paper flowers all day. I mad a tidy for a chair. Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Self came to see us. Dr. spent the day riding to settle with men. I wrote a letter to Eudora McCorkle the first after her mothers death. Then one to Lizzie Blanks and the little girls. Willie spent the afternoon and served. Iola carried her dress skirt to Miss Franky Dunivant to make . Hung our meat today. a bright cool day.

Wednesday, Dec. 14

Iola & Willie went to town early to buy lining for a dress skirt that Miss Frankie was making for her then went to Miss Annie Jones, Mrs. Capells, Mrs. Paces, then to Mrs. Phares. We received a letter from Sallie beging her to come along, said leaving little Scott here was Dr. Simmons advice. I replied to the letter telling her Iola would start on the 18th. Carnel Folk house burned last night. Mrs. Easona barn burned with 75 lbs of corn hay, Machinery and horses no inshurence & his wife sick. De. & Iola went to the singing at Mr. Ridings. A bright beautiful day.

Saturday, Dec. 15

I finished a tidy for a chair back, cooked dinner. Iola baked a sollid cake and changed trunk with Dr. getting ready to go to Tex to see Sallie. In the afternoon Iola & Beatrice Grishen went to east Newbern soliciting help to buy a baptismal suit for bro. Phares. Mrs. Arnett came over very much hurt Prine Rice had whiped a step child so bad it left home. It caused a great talk among the people great sympathy for the child. A bright pleasant day.

Sunday, Dec. 16

We all went to SS and to hear brother Phares preach. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Phares. Iola and Rose also went. Dr. and Albert went to see Capt. Williams as he was very low. Mr. Pace told Dr. he would get Iola ticket and help her to make the change at Memphis going to Sherman to see Sallie. Rec a letter from Sallie today also one from Mrs. Kinkle inviting Iola to come to her house at Memphis to spend the day. We all went to night meeting to hear brother Phares rightly divide the word carried our negro boy. A bright pretty cool day.

Monday, Dec. 17

Buisy getting Iola ready to start to Tex. I packed a trunk for Sallie & Edgar. Willie came to see Iola. Beatrice G., Brother Phares came and sat a while. Miss Frankie Dunivant made a pretty black skirt for Iola & Willie paid for it. I made some foot stools and chair tidys. I had my little negro raking off the yard. Capt. Williams in a dying condition has cancer of the stomache. Mrs. Harris worked a table cover for Willie to send to Sallie for a chrismas present. Scott went to Willies to spend the night so as not to have to have a cry when Iola started. A baby girl was born to Will McCorkle. A bright lovely day.

Tuesday, Dec. 18

Iola started today to Tex to be with Sallie in her sickness. Dr. went to the train with her, then went to Tatomville with a drumer on business. I finished up the morning work then went to Mrs. Arnetts to put in a quilt for the circle. Capt. Williams died last night at twelve oclock, he was kept out as Rick was not here. Willie went to see him. Fannie Arnett was sick so we put the quilt in at my house, failed to get it out. Ada and Lula G. went soliciting for chrismas tree. I am very tired tonight. John Galden cards are out to be married the 20 of this month to Iuta Pate. A bright pleasant day. Brother Rodie took dinner with us.

Wednesday, Dec. 19

Capt. Williams funeral was preached at the M.E. church by King & Owen. Fannie Arnett boy was born this morning at 8:30. I wrote a letter to Iola & Sallie after coming from Fannie Arnetts. Mr. Swink papered Mrs. Harris room this day for $2.75. A few of us finished quilting a quilt for the sewing circle. Prof. Fraziers babe was born today. Dr. went to prayer meeting . I was not well so I staid with Scott and read my bible. It rained this morning but cleared off long enough to bury Capt. Williams.

Thursday, Dec. 20

I was taken sick at two oclock in the night and was sick all day. Vanlier spent the day and made herself a dress. Beatrice and Lula came up after supper to give us the money for brother Phares baptismal suit as she was going off to spend Chrismas. Dr. & Albert went to town to take an invoice of the stock and settle with Mr. Hardie. One year ago today Sallie was married. Cloudy in the morning fair in the afternoon.

Friday, Dec. 21

I wrote a letter to Iola & Sallie, then went to Willies took dinner, came back home. Cicero foned he would come to see me. At 2:30 he came with Leslie Sattie came with him and stoped at Mrs. Shoemates. Cicero spend one hour with me. the singing and SS sturdy met here and we had a good time. Ada & Lula collected for chrismas tree. A bright pleasant day.

Saturday, Dec. 22

I cleaned up, read the papers. Willie made me two cakes. I gave her two plates for her work. Ada & Lula came. Brother Phares went to Gleason to preach and be gone two days. Sent Willies buggy to have it repainted at St. Louis. I polished all of our heaters. Moody came back and spent the night with the M.E. minister Mommon. Rec a letter from Sallie saying Iola arived safely at 3:30 train three hours late getting into Sherman. Sallies babe was born on this day. Cloudy & a very windy rained at night.

Sunday, Dec. 23

Last night at eleven oclock we received a telegram Sallie had a girl and was doing well. We all went to SS and let Scott stop to see Bush Grenshaw. I came home and wrote a letter to Iola. Went to see Mrs. Pace and sister Phares in the afternoon Eula & Mr.Karns came and spent the night. Scott was taken very sick after supper and threw up a great deal. We sat up late to see how he would be. Bright & cool.

Monday, Dec. 24

Eula and Mr. Karns went from here to Trimble. Lula Grishen came for me to help buy chrismas presents. I was not able. I spent the morning in dressing a boy doll for Maggies chrismas present. I went in the afternoon to the church and worked all the afternoon putting on presents. Scott spoke a nice speech at the tree the first he ever spoke for a crowd, had a nice time. A bright cool day.

Tuesday, Dec. 25

I went with Dr. and Scott to Dyersburg to take turkey dinner with Lula. Brother Williams wife and seven children wer there for dinner. We spent the night. Cicero came to Newbern with Leslie Lotta and spent the night at Mrs. Shoemates with a cousin of theirs. They had a fine supper then they went to Dr. Polod to a partie. Beatrice went to Mr. Nickley to spend the night. Thelmer was a little sick better at night. A bright cool day.

Wednesday, Dec. 26

Dr. and I came home from Lulas, left Scott to spend a few days. We took dinner at Willies came by to see Fannie Arnett, then went to see Mrs. Shoemate, then to Mrs. Grishens to see Mattie Romine. after supper we went to prayer meeting, came home and wrote to Iola. Cicero took dinner at Porter Shoemates, then took his girl home to Dyersburg. A bright cool day.

Thursday, Dec. 27

John Golden and Lula Pate to be married today. Annie Williams and Mr. Beard. Dr. took dinner with Finis McCorkle and I took dinner with Mrs. Harris as it was raining too hard for me to go. I wrote a letter to Iola & Sallie. Willie went with Albert to a big Oddfellows supper and left the children with me. I had a bad spell with my stomache, took bromidier and had a mustard plaster and hot water bag to my stomache. It rained a while then cleared off then began to rain at 10 and rained until four in the afternoon.

Friday, Dec. 28

I am still feeling bad, have headache and pains through my stomache. Willie had a talk with Lula. Beatrice & Cicero are to have 6 oclock tea and have a crowd of young folks. I read all day when I was able. Received a letter from Iola saying they thought of naming the babe Francis. Willie and the children came to see me in the afternoon. Bro. Phares was called to the fone by Halls so he came in to see me. Ludith bridoled the colt for the first time today. I talked to Scott over the fone he at Dyersburg I at home. Cloudy & cold. Bertie Williams married this night.

Saturday, Dec. 29

Beatrice and Lizzie came up today to stay until Monday. I had my Xmas dinner. Willies family & Mrs. Harris took dinner with us. Jammie May Harris came to see Beatrice. Brother Phares came to see us about electing SS oficers. Dr. had gone to his ofice to write a little business, he rarly ever goes to town after night. I sent a letter to town by Dr. to Iola and Sallie. I darned and pressed Scott clouths and read after I gave him his bath. Very cold and cloudy.

Sunday, Dec. 30

Dr., Scott and I went to SS. The oficers for 1901 wer elected. Dr. Superintendent, George McConnell Vice Sup., Rose Blackwood Secretary, Geor McConnell treasurer. The subject was discuss at length. Beatrice and Lizzie spent the day with Willie. After dinner Dr. went out calling on the members of the church. I staid at home and read all the afternoon. Bob Scott & Hubert came. Bob staid all night. Beatrice & Lizzie spent the night with us. Rainy and cold.

Monday, Dec. 31

We got up at five for Beatrice & Lizzie to get off on the early train to Dyersburg. Bob Scott went home this morning. Dr. & I took dinner with Mrs. Arnett turkey dinner. I then went to see Mrs. Phares, came home and wrote a long letter to Iola & Salle at Sherman, Tex. After supper Dr. and Mr. Grishen wen to see Mr. Porter to see if he could settle with brother Phares for the years work hear for the church. This page ends this year work. The Lord only knows what another may bring. Cloudy and cool.
