Tuesday, Jan. 1 Bright and very cold.

Cicero has mumps. Beatrice went back to Jackson to school. I made over my black dress. Wrote a letter to Iola and sallie 15 pages long. Dr. received a fine suit of cloathes from his children as a Christmas present. I went to Mattie Browns to meet the S.S. to work for the Lord in the afternoon. Mr. Swink papered the Blanks house today. Willie came a while. Mrs. Shoemate came to use the fone hers out of fix. I talked to Lula through the fone. Dr. went to Willies after supper, then to Mrs. Arnetts. I read after supper.

Wednesday, Jan. 2 A bright and cold day

After morning work, I called on the M.E. ministers family then on Mrs. Pitt, Came home, cooked dinner. In the afternoon I called on the baptist ministers family and Rose & Leona. Ora Huie came to see me. Scott was axidentally locked up in the store, he raised the alarm and many came to his relief, hunted up Dr. and opened the door. J.E. McCorkle spent the night with us and we went to prayer meeting the first of the year. There were so few out, brother Phares was discouraged. Billy Porter staying away for a trivial perpus?. Beatrice Grisham came in a while.

Thursday, Jan 3 A bright cold day

After morning work, I read my bible. John McCorkle went to Dyersburg on early train from here. We recieved a letter from Iola & Sallie saying they though of naming the babe Gladis Iola. I went to Willies to take the letters. Then to Mrs. Phares to see Miss Della Whitney. Willie called on Mamie Frazier and Mrs. Williams. A crowd of our girls spent the night with Lizzie Haskins. Dr. cominced putting water in the cistern. Beatrice Grisham came to see me.

Friday, Jan 4 A bright cold day

I read in the morning, dressed a doll for Maggie. Beatrice Grisham came in a while. Willie and Maggie came in. I mended Dr. cloaths. Brother Rodie came in and took dinner with us. After supper we all went to brother Phares to a singing. Mrs. Harris went with us. Miss Della Whitney was there. Eula is badly salivated. Mr. Billy Hill and wife seperated but is now together again. I received an inventation to Leve Jones marriage today to be at Jackson. Received a letter from Iola.

Saturday, Jan 5 Cloudy and cold

I spent the morning in a general cleaning, then read until time to cook. Hired a boy to help pile wood. Annie McCorkle and Finis Scott came. Annie took dinner. Gentry McCorkle came by to see us. Mrs. phares brother came from Memphis where he is taking treatment under a Dr. Recp. a letter from Iola & Sallie said they had named the babe Gladdis Iola. I read the most of the day my religious papers.

Sunday, Jan 6 Cloudy & cool

We all went to SS & preaching. Had an inventory sermon the role was called at the church. We were invited to Billy Porters to a big turkey dinner. I had a fine time. Mrs. Copeland was there and John Gregory came for her to take a ride. We teased them very much. Mrs Grisham and I went to see Mag McCorkle, then I came home. Mrs. Copeland spent the night and we all went to hear brother Phares preach.

Monday, Jan 7 Cloudy and cool

Mrs. Copeland and I went out to see some poor sick persons. The poor sick Barker girl was very low not expected to live. We then went to see Lillie Buch, Mrs. Goodwin, Hallie Sharp, Mrs. Walker & Mrs. Pace. I took supper with Willie. Dr. went to Dyersburg to attend cort. Telephoned he would continue another day. I walked too much and was not well at night. Beatrice Grisham came after supper and sat with me.

Tuesday, Jan 8 Bright and warm

I finished up morning work and cut Scotts hair, scrubed my room mattings. Sallie Dickey came to see me today. In the afternoon Mrs. Goodwin came. We went to brother Phares to meet the sewing circle. I came home , cooked supper. Cousin Hiram McCorkle came home with Dr. from Dyersburg and spent the night. We enjoyed his company very much. I had been a long time since he was here.

Wednesday, Jan 9 Cloudy and warm

I drew several napkins for the sewing circle in the morning. Cicero and Robert came from Dyersburg and spent the day. Willie and Maggie spent the day. Willie called to see Mrs. Pace.

Miss Della Whitney went home today. Beatrice Grisham gave sister Phares a new skirt. Dr. tried two cases today. I worked on Ludiths pants in the afternoon. Mr. Tigrets boy not expected to live has pencitus. All went to prayer meeting.

Thursday, Jan 10 Cloudy and warm, rained after supper

I read most of the morning then wrote a letter to Iola and Sallie telling of Mrs. Will Whites great trouble, he had her arrested at Waverly. Newbern friend released her by a trick of friendship. I was not well at all. Willie came to see me. Dr. went to town after supper to sell a saw mill. Brother Phares came a while to return some books. I stiil have a cole and cough.

Friday, Jan 11 cloudy rainy cold day

I made a comfort today of an old quilt. I have a cold and cough. A pardner of Alberts took possessinon today. Mrs. Copeland assisted in getting up a donation for brother Phares. We all met at brother Goodloes to sturdy SS and to sing. Went from there to his house. Had a pleasant time. He gave us a good talk and prayed for us, seemed to be very thankful indeed. Dr. went to town to try to sell a sawmill to the Scott brothers. Ada and Beatrice did not go as they failed to take a donation.

Saturday, Jan 12 A bright cold day

Mrs. Harris went to Reeves to see her parents. I finished up the quilt begun yesterday. Mrs. Grisham and Alllie Steel came to see me today. Willie paid me for eggs and butter $1.50. After supper Dr. went to town to see Albert about the business. I bathed Scott and did some mending read then until time to go to bed and take my bath.

Sunday, Jan 13 A bright cool day

Dr., Scott and I went to SS and from there we went to hear brother Owin the baptist preach on the new birth. Came home and read a letter from Olie May, Maurine and Lizzie Blanks. I then wrote a letter. Had a talk with Lula over the fone. I went to see Mrs. Pace found her alone. she seemed to be so glad to see me. Sent Fanny Hall to the asylem from? her sister Bottice.

Monday, Jan 14 A bright pleasant day

After sending out the cloaths and doing work I read until time to cook dinner. In the afternoon Mrs. Crenshaw called with the babe & Bush. Beatrice came to get the treasures book. I went to see Mrs. Phares found her feeling bad. Later she sent me word to call brother Phares at Halls and tell him to come home as she was not well. Dr. & Scott went to Willies. Bought a horse for Albert today.

Tuesday, Jan 15 A bright pleasant day

I was suffering with my old trouble all the morning yet finished a letter to Sallie and Iola. Mrs. Shoemate came. Willie went to see Marie Lou Radford, who was expected to die. In the afternooon I went with Willie to the Sewing circle. Scott went to School today for the first time. Maggie went too. Great preperations being made today for Rebecca Tigrets marriage. Looking fo Bettie Barker to die. Florence & Allie came a while in the afternooon and went to see sister Phares from here. Sallie Hamilton moved to the Douglas brick and rented her house.

Wednesday, Jan 16 Cloudy & cool, bright in the afternoon

Annie Lou Radford died this morning. Mr. Dave Burr gave his babe morphine & it died. I went to see Mrs. Phares in the morning & gave her some turnip sallet. I went in the afternoon to see Mrs. Pace, gave her some turnip sallet. Brothera Rodie and Ollie spent the night with us. Mag Finis & Mada Heart called to see me. Willie, Mary, Ludith and brother Rodie went to the marriage of Rebecca Tigret. Dr., Scott, Maggie, Ollie and I went to prayer meeting. A crowd went from there to the marriage.

Thursday, Jan 17 A very cold windy day

Recieved a letter saying Olie May Blanks had pneumonia. Annie Lou Radfords funeral was preached at the ME church this morning. Willie went . Dr. went to the country to attend to some business for Albert today. Dr. sent his prescription for pneumonia to Lizzie Blanks this morning. Willie spent the afternoon with me and told me about the decoration at the church where Rebecca Tigret was married. I wrote a letter to Iola May Blanks and one to Iola and Sallie. Elic Wells married this day at Union City.

Friday, Jan 18 Snowing and windy in the morning , fair in the afternoon

I sent Scott to town to get him some over shoes the first he ever had to wear to School. Mrs Phares came to see us, the first visit she made since her babe came. Kelly Golden was found dead in his bed this morning at Pakuca. It almost killled his mother. Dr. and Albert made an order tonight for a bill of groceries. Singing met at our house to night. Dr. suffering with his right shoulder. Mrs. Owens went home when her babe four weeks old to Murfersburrow, Ky.

Saturday, Jan 19 A bright cold day

Kelly Golden was buried to day. I read all the morning the Ten Standard Christian Standards and bible. Ada Ridings and Bessie Grisham came. I went to Willies in the afternoon. Rose Blackwood came and spent the night with us, she and I went to see sister Phares after supper then to see Mrs. Harris. I bathed Scott, then intertained Rose. Recp letters from Sallie saying Iolas tickett was rec and extended. Albert came up after supper and sat a while. The flowers for the grave was sent back to Miss Piarce by the Golden family. The electric light plant burned at five oclock.

Sunday, Jan 20 A bright pleasant day

We all went to SS. Brother Phares preached there was a good crowd out. I went to see Laura Roop. Miss Alice Vaneaton came and spent the night came from preaching. The electric light house burned this morning at five oclock, no inshurence and a very great loss. Willie and Albert went out riding left the children with me. Dr. suffering with his right shoulder rumatism and a fall on the sidewalk.

Monday, Jan 21 A bright pleasant day

Brother Phares moved to the Bradshaw house to day. I went down and helped them pack. Bettie Barker was buried to day at poplar grove. Willie went to brother Phares and helped them put down the carpets. Walter McCorkle came from Couter Mo on his way home on a visit. Spent the night with Willie. Brother Boswell helped brother Phares to put his carpets down. Recieved a letter from Charlie Allen asking for his grey overcoat to be sent to him a Columbus, Tex.?.

Tuesday, Jan 22 A bright cool day

I wrote a letter to Charlie Allen and a letter to Sallies babie Gladis Iola the first letter she ever recieved just one month old to day. I sewed on some drawers for myself. Went to the Sewing circle at Mrs. Barhams. I sent Sallies babe some gold pins with chain links through the mail. I am not well tonight, suffering with back ache. Dr. went to town to mail a letter to Sallie. Iucem Victory died to day.

Wednesday, Jan 23 Cloudy and rainy until noon

I read several books in my bible after finishing up my morning work, then made myself a pair of cotten flannel drawers. Mrs. Harris sat with me awhile. Willie went to see Mrs. Porter and brother Phares. I staid at home and read all the afternoon, had several talks through the fone Rose and others. Meeting at the ME Church this week. Beatrice Grisham came to see me.

Thursday, Jan 24 A bright cold day

I did sewing then went to Mrs. Paces to see her and found her no better. Went to Willies and took dinner. Dr. and brother Rodie came up there for dinner. I swaped Rodie a fine pimoth rock rooster. I hired Spence to dig up a big stump in the yard. I read the book of Hebrew and James then did some mending. recieved the first groceries at the store to day. I sent items to the paper.

Friday, Jan 25 A bright cold day

I read all the forenoon. After dinner I went to town to have the dress cut and fit that the girls gave me for a Christmas present. I went in at cousin Sue Folks to see Iolas children, their father had gone off and left the two children. Their granmother wrote for Iolas uncle to come and get them. Cousin Sue keeps the boy, the girl goes with its uncle to Waverly, Tenn. We stopped by to see brother Phares folks. Willies folks went to see the Distric school played tonight. Rose came to see me.

Saturday, Jan 26 It rained in the morning

I mended in the morning and read all the afternoon. Walter McCorkle took dinner with us. Scott went to see Bush to day. Brother Phares went to gleason today. Rose Blackwood and Beatrice Grisham came to see me. I had the big stump cut up into wood today. Willie recieved a letter from Beatrice Cockroft at Jackson saying Cicero was sick.

Sunday, Jan 27 Bright and very cold

We all went to SS and then to the ME church to the protracted meeting. Willlie was sent for to go to Callie Capells, a little girl was born at four oclock. Dr., Scott and I went home with Albert to dinner. Walter and Albert came to out house in the afternoon. Ada Ridens and Lula Grisham came in the afternoon. I wrote a letter to Sallie and Iola while Dr., Albert and the children went out walking. Scott went home with John Barham but did not stay long.

Monday, Jan 28 A bright cool day

Willie went to Callies to spend the day. I staid at home and read my bible and did my work. I went to see Mrs. Pace in the afternoon. Brother Rodie brough me two chickens. Rose came. I pieced on a quilt in the afternoon. Mrs. Harris not well. Meeting at the ME church still in progress. Mrs. Harris went. Willie went to town to see about my new dress at Mrs. Jones.

Tuesday, Jan 29 Cloudy and rainy

I pieced on my quilt, read, made a club of ten new subscribers for the Christian Guide. Beatrice Grisham came. Mrs. Harris came in and spent the afternoon. I sent a tub of sallet to town to sell and three cakes of butter. Scott swallowed a whistle and was very sick awhile, his grandpa carried him to a Dr. bought a bottle of oil and a sack of apples, brought him home and he soon better. I did not go to the circle it rained.

Wednesday, Jan 30 Cloudy and very cold

I set a hen today. Walter and Robert came from Yorkville today and took dinner with us. I kept Scott at home to watch for the whistle he swallowed yesterday. Willie went to town to see about having my dress made that the girls gave me Christmas. I worked on my quilt the most of the day then read revelations and Christian Guide.

Thursday, Jan 31

I went to town to try on my new dress that was being made by Mrs. Jim Jones. Rec. a letter from Sallie saying Iola would leave the 30. Iola came on the eleven oclock and no one was expecting her until night. Rose came to see Iola. Willie came and spent the afternoon with Iola. I wrote Sallie a letter to tell he of Iolas arival.G.C.Ashcraft and Pearl Weakly was married.

Friday, Feb 1 A bright pleasant day

Beatrice Grisham came to see Iola. Mrs. Copeland came in the afternoon. Iola and Willie went to town later to have Willies hat trimed. I read the Gazett and Standard. After supper we all went to Mrs. Arnetts to the SS sturdy and singing. A lesson on the ten virgins, five wise and five foolish.

Saturday, Feb 2 Snow and rain all day, a cold rain

Iola spent the most of the morning in cleaning the house. I worked on my quilt and cooked dinner, read the papers, went to see Mrs. Harris and gave her scraps to make a quilt. The train ran off the track in town and did considerable damage. Willie sent her hat to town to have it trimed & had a bonnett trimed for me by Mrs. Bell.

Sunday, Feb 3 Rained in the forenoon, fair in the afternoon

We all went to SS and heard a good talk to the children from brother Phares on Watchfulness, then a sermon on Sanctification. We all went to Willies for dinner. Brother Porter went too. Recieved a letter from Sallie , the first after Iola left Sherman, Tex. We went at night and carried lamps and lanterns as the electric lights had been destroyed by a fire.

Monday, Feb 4 Monday cold and cloudy

I went to see a sick babe. Took dinner with Mrs. Goodwin, Mary was sick & I came to her. Fannie Arnett sent for me to come to see her babe, she came in the afternoon and spent quite a while. Beatrice came to see Iola. Iola spent the most of the morning cleaning the house. I worked on my star quilt and read some in the papers.

Tuesday, Feb 5 Clear and clold

I went to Willies to see Mary. Came home and wrote a letter to Sallie. In the afternoon Iola and I went to Sister Phares to meet with the sewing circle, stoped with Mattie Brown a while. Milton McGee went to Union City to marry Bettie Folks. Mrs. Inman very sick. Mrs. Swinler better. Dr. Cherry went to see Mary today. Ludith sick an not able to go to school.

Wednesday, Feb 6 Cold and cloudy a little snow

I wrote three letter fo a church in Helena, Ark., a 10 cts. chain letters. Then wrote a letter to Lizzie Blanks. After dinner I went to see Mrs. Pace and made three blocks to my quilt. Iola staid at home and read the home Journal. Dr. had a fone put in the store today. Mary still sick. We all went to prayer meeting in the snow.

Thursday, Feb 7 Snow, rain & Cloudy

I workded on putting the quilt together, bought linen thread and cotten to put in a quilt. Iola went to Mrs. Grasong to borrow frames. We put it in and quilted awhile. Beatrice Grisham came in and we settled our books for the circle. Mrs. Harris sat with us all the afternoon. We cooked two cakes today, one a cocanut, one chockolate. A bad reck on the train several hurt and one killed.

Friday, Feb 8 Rained all day

Iola and I quilted all day. Mrs. Harris helped us. Brother Rody took dinner so did Mrs. Harris. After dinner brother Ellis Scott came to see us. We looked for Mattie Brown but it rained. We failed to go to the singing at sister Barhams on account of the rain. Dr. was taking cold and was afraid to go out in the rain. I wrote a letter to Sallie.

Saturday, Feb 9 Bright and cold

I finished a letter to Sallie, quilted all the morning. Beatrice came to the fone to order groceries. Annie McCorkle came to look at Iolas waist she and brother Joe took dinner with Willie. I went to town bought Scott some shoes stockings, corn paper & apples. I went to see Mrs. Phares, Mrs. Grey, Mrs. Jones and Rose Blackwood. Dr. came home sick with bad cold and pain in his brest. We finished the quilt and took our bath.

Sunday, Feb 10 Cloudy & cold

Dr. Mc was sick and neither of us went to SS. Marshal and Mr. Porter had a talk over their trouble. Iola and Scott went to SS. Iola went for Mrs. Phares but the children were neither one well and she did not come. Willie and Albert came to see Dr. I talked to Mrs. Copeland at John Nickles of Dyersburg. Cousin Finis, Marshal McConnell, George Mc, Mrs. George McConnell, Mrs. Dr. McConnell, Mr. Porter and others came to see Dr. Iola went to get company for Mrs. Phares. Brother Phares at Halls to preach. Milton McGees reception today.

Monday, Feb 11 Cloudy and cool

I worked on putting a quilt together. Dr. sick on bed. Iola bound a quilt. Beatrice came to see Dr. Vanlier spent the day with us. Brother Dun spent a while with us. A mans things burned in Douglass house this afternoon. Iola and Beat went to sit with Sister Phares ___. The house was thought to have been set on fire by Mr. Oglisby pipe. I helped to put out the burning things.

Tuesday, Feb 12 A cold cloudy day

I worked on a quilt and read my paper. Iola went see Laura D. Roop and Mrs. Pace. Mr. Oglisby, Mr. Porter, Mr. Shoemate, Mr. Wharton, Rose and Hattie came to see Dr. We, Iola, Willie and myself went to Mrs. Riding to the Sewing circle, came home and Iola went to see Mrs. Oglisby. I read and worked on my quitl. Dr. still on bed.

Wednesday, Feb 13 A cold bright day

I worked on my quilt. George Blanks came from Trezevant to see us. This is Ludiths 12th birthday. Dr. still on bed sick. Iola and Rose went out to see the sisters of the church to get each one to give a hen to sister Phares. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Recieved a letter from Olie May & Maurine. Maggie had a chill today the first in al long time. Iola and I went to prayer meeting. George staid with Dr. and Scott.

Thurday, Feb 14 A cool bright day

I worked names on the Gospell quilt and placed scraps for a chair tidy. Beatrice Grisham came. Mrs. Holland came. Brother and sister Phares with both of the children came. Maggie quite sick. I went to see her awhile. Dr. on bed all day. After supper Iola went with a crowd of the sisters of the church to brother Phares, all took a hen. Iola then went to Willies to set up with Maggie.

Sunday, Feb 17 Bright pleasant day

Iola, Scott and I went to SS. Dr. was not strong enough. Cousin Finis came and told us that Gentry had sold out and gone to Sanantonia, Tex. for Maggies health. There wer Robbers in Dyersburg last night and almost killed Dr. Arnolds daughter. George Blanks went home this morning and took our grey mare. Iola gone to see Maggie.

Monday, Feb 18 Bright in the morning cloudy in the afternoon

A negro was hung in Dyersburg today. Iola had headache today. I worked on my quilt in the morning and went calling in the afternoon, Dr. Pollard, Mrs. Inman, Mrs. Westbrook and Mrs. Shoemate. Dr. went to town for the first time after being sick. Albert planted his garden today. I had plowing done & fruit trees trimed. I sent a letter to Sallie.

Tuesday, Feb 19 Cold day

I read in the morning. Dr. able to go to have a house fixed to put farming impliments in. Maggie able to sit up a little after a bad spell of sickness. Iola and I went to Mrs. Halls to meet with the sewing circle. Iola then went to see Maggie. We bought eggs to set & two hens from Mrs. Grayson. I went to Willies and spent the morning.

Wednesday, Feb 20 a very cold day ice and snow

I had headache in the foremoon. Set two hens today One hatching. Recieved a letter from George saying the mare died on the way home. Dr., Iola and I went to church for prayer meeting and heard a fine sermon from brother Felix, pastor of Obion church. I recieved several new books and read some in them. Iola attending to the incubater.

Thursday, Feb 21 Cold and a big snow

After an extry cleaning I cooked dinner. Brother Phares, brother Felix, Mr. Baz Brown and wife and children took dinner with us. I had mostly a vegetable dinner, Jole? and sallet, irish & sweet potatoes, homney & c. Mr. Karns and Mrs. Harris also took dinner. Iola helped and attended to the incubater.

Friday, Feb 22 Cold and freezing snow on the ground

Iola went to Wilies & took dinner. I wrote a letter to Sallie and read all alone, after dinner I cut carpet rags. Mrs. Harris sat with us. Beatrice and Cicero came home on a visit today. Dr. carried his dinner to town. We are trying to raise some little chicks in the house. Dr. went to Dr. McConnell to a singing, too cold for Iola & I. Washingtons birthday.

Saturday, Feb 23 Bright and cold snow on the ground

I wrote a letter to Charlie Allen at San Antonia, Tex. Iola painting a picture in water colors this morning. brother Rodie took dinner with us. Eula Phares spent the day. Iola and Beatrice Grisham went to spend the night with sister Phares as brother Phares was going to Gleason to preach. I cut and made myself a chimie after two oclock. Iola did all she could of the night work before she started, milked & c.

Sunday, Feb 24 A bright cold day

We all Dr., Iola, Scott and I went to SS. I went after service to see a sick lady, Mrs McCan and met an old friend there, Mrs. Gray. Mrs. Phares and the two children spent the day. At one oclock our house caught on fire and the alarm was given, there was soon a yard full of people. Rose and Mrs. Copeland came to see us. Albert and Willie came. We had some good music from Mrs. Phares. Jamie Lambert married, Benanna Dunlap married today.

Monday, Feb 25 Bright and cool

I cut rags and mended all this morning. Allie Steel, Laura D. Roop & Willie spent the afternoon. I went to Cammp Arnetts to talk to Rose Blackwood at Mr. Jim Moors. I worked a chair tidy in the afternoon. Mrs. Nation who has been for weeks distroying saloons is now in jail. Recieved a letter from Sallie today. Mrs. Phares spent last nigth with us. Mr. Swink hurt by the train.

Tuesday, Feb 26 A bright cold day

I went to see the sick at Mrs. Pitts & Mrs. Goodwins. Then to see about selling a table cover for th circle. Iola, Willie and I went to the circle at Mattie Browns. Came by and stoped to see Bessie Goodloe as she was sick. Dr. complaining some today. We had a flue made to our back room today by Mr. Nix. Jake Hamelton very sick today.

Wednesday, Feb 27 A bright cool day

Brothe Phares and I went in the buggy to see Mr. Swink who was chrushed by the cars, Mr. Lamberts boy who was dadly burned. We called on Annie Beard & Mrs Copeland. After dinner I cut brother Rodies hair and fixed an overcoat for him as he was going to brake our colt. Callie Capell spent the day with Willie. Dr., Iola and Scott and I went to prayer meeting.

Thursday, Feb 28 Cloudy and rainy

I cut two bonnetts for Iola and I to give to the sewing circle for the march ofering. Miss Moore and Mr. Harvister were married by brother Phares today. Iola went to Willies this morning. We are filling the cistern of hidren water today. Sold two gallons of milk. Mrs. Copeland went to Trenton. Rec a letter from Sallie.

Friday, Mar 1 Bright pleasant day

I and Iola worked on bonnetts for the circle. Mrs. Glass came to see us in the afternoon. Willie and Maggie came. Mrs. Lockheart came as agent. The Singing and bible sturdy met with us. Mrs. Phares came with her two little children. We studied about the betrayal of Jesus by Judius. Mrs. Phares did the praying.

Saturday, Mar 2 A bright pleasant day

I read in the forenoon. Went to Mrs. Paces to stitch a bonnett front. Mollie told me she had left Will Radford. I went to see Bessie Goodloe who was sick. Came home and finished the bonnett. Iola helped the boy clean the yard and attended to the incubater. Beatrice came.

Sunday, Mar 3 A bright pleasant day

We all went to SS and heard a fine sermon on missions. Came home and wrote a letter to Sallie. Went to Mrs. Arnetts to get Emit to male it on the train. Willie and Albert took a ride then let Dr. and Iola have the failen to ride. Brother Phares married a couple before he came to preach. I went to Willies and staid awhile then all went to preaching at night, subject My record is on high.

Monday, Mar 4 Bright & pleasant

Comp Arnett moved to the Self house. I patched all the morning. In the afternoon, I helped Willie make a bonnett for the circle. I took it to Mrs. Paces and sold it to her cook for 50 cts. Mollie went to Will Radford after being seperated one week. Mrs. Pace in great trouble. Mollie also in great trouble. Will so very unkind to her.

Tuesday, Mar 5 Very very cold but clear

This is my 58 birthday. Iola & Willie spend the morning at Rose Blackwoods took dinner. After dinner they all went to the Sewing circle. Mrs. Harris and I went to meet with the circle at Mrs. Hollands. We contributed to the foren missions this week. I recieved a birthday gift from Sallie a work string.

Wednesday, Mar 6 A bright cold day

I went to see Mrs. Barhams sick child, then to Dr. McConnels to see a sick boy. I came home and worked a tidy for Scots hair. Laura D. Roop spent the afternoon with me. Willie came and spent the afternoon. Mr. Cockroft and Lonnie spent the night with us. Iola, Lonnie and I went to prayer meeting. Minnie Brown was married today.

Thursday, Mar 7 Bright and cool

Iola went to see Mrs. Sturdivant and to Mr. Hanys to see the corps of her brother, then went to town. I staid at home and cooked dinner. Mr. Cockroft and Lonnie took dinner. Iola went to Willies to help put in a quilt. Iola & Beatrice went to sit up with a poor sick lady. I had backache and staid at home to read my papers.

Friday, Mar 8 Raining

I helped Iola with a pair of pants fro Scott. I then went out to get up a contribution on some things for a poor lady who was sick. Sallie Scott came and spent the night with us and bought a set of napkins from the sewing circle and gave her name for the quilt. Iola went visiting.

Saturday, Mar 9 Cloudy & rainy

I went to see Mrs. Sturdivant who was not expected to live. Came home by Tiny Smiths, Brother Phares, Mrs. George McConnells, Mrs. Roes and Mrs. Pattons. Hurbert Scott took breadfast with us , then took his mother home. Iola went to Willies and did some baking with her. Dr. took dinner with Willie. The incubater is beginning to hatch some eggs. Iola made some pants for Scott.

Sunday, Mar 10 Cold and windy

We all went to SS. Dr., Willie, Albert & I went to the ME Church and heard a sancified Sermon from L Gammel. In the afternoon Rose, Beatrice, Lula and Mr. Roop came to see us. Mrs. Sturdivant very sick. Mrs. Laterm very sick she the poor lady who is being helped by us all. the eggs in the incubater are hatching. Mrs. Harris sisters are here on a visit from Reeves.

Monday, Mar 11 Bright & cool

I wrote a letter to Sallie. Iola went with Beatrice to see a sick lady. In the afternoon Brother Rodie came and told me of his misfortune lost a horse, fine cow and mule by a storm of wind. Mrs. Grisham, Mrs. Steel, Rose, Ada and Mrs. Hammon called to see us and look at the incubater. Brother Henry 60 today.

Tuesday, Mar 12 Cool & cloudy

Willie was sick and I went there cleaned her house and quilted six shells on her quilt. Came home and cooked dinner for Willie and the children. After dinner I went to Mrs. Barhams to meet with the sewing circle. Came home , cooked supper for Willies folks and mine. Pattie Yourie and Beatrice came to see us. I sent a letter to brother Henry.

Wednesday, Mar 13 Clear & windy

Iola had a very bad spell of sick headache last night. Still on bed all the morning. After dinner Iola was up. Mrs. Walker came, I went with her to see Mrs. Hollis who was very sick. I then went to see Sallie Dickey and Mrs. Shoemate. Came home and went to prayer meeting. Iola staid at home as she was sick. Beatrice & Ada R. came. Ada went to Dyersburg.

Thursday, Mar 14 Cloudy cold and a little rain and snow

Willie and I went to Mrs. Capells to spend the day. Kate Harry and a little boy Shofner was married. She looked very pretty. I was at her house. In the afternoon Willie & I went to see Mrs. Spencer family. Came by the store then came home. Mrs. Ridings and Beatrice came. I worked three new names on our quilt.

Friday, Mar 15 Snowed all day

I washed the church table cloths and sewed on some bonnetts for the sewing circle. Iola went to Willies to hem the ruffles and string. Iola went to Mrs. Arnetts in afternoon, then to get Beatrice to go with her to see a sick lady, staid part of the night. I am not feeling well tonight. I read the most of the day and until bedtime. The poor lady died.

Saturday, Mar 16 Bright cold day

I finished up two new bonnetts for the circle, went to Mrs. Paces to stitch the front. Mr. Newmans son was killed and brought here to be buried, was killed by a reck on trains. Mollie sold off all of her things today, she and Will Padford seperated. Iola & I wanted to get her furniture but Mr. Holland claimed he had traded for it. Rec a letter from Sallie. Beatrice came. Iola & Willie went to Mrs. Paces.

Sunday, Mar 17 Bright pleasant day

We all went to SS and heard a good sermon form brother Phares. Iola took dinner with Beatrice Grisham. The Newman boys funeral preached by Ed Penick at his home, buried at the cemetary. Lizzie Cockroft came with brother Penick and staid with me while he was gone to preach the funeral. Iola came by to see Sister Phares. Willie and Albert went out to take a buggy ride.

Monday, Mar 18 Bright and pleasant

Iola helped Willie take up a carpet. I cut sallet to sell and had some planting done in the garden. In the afternoon Iola took up the carpet in the cook room, I cut rags for the circle and went to see Mrs. Ridings. Came home and churned the butter and did the night work. After supper we read. Dr. went to town. Laura D. Roop came to see us. Mrs. Harris planted potatoes an other things in our back yard. We sent a letter to Sallie.

Tuesday, Mar 19 Cloudy & rainy

Iola and I cut sallet to send to the store. Neither of us were well. In the afternoon we went to Willies to the sewing circle. Mallie Romine met with us. Mr. Spencer planted his garden. I hired a boy to work for me at one dollar per week. Mr. Moore our Principal accepted a position at Dyersburg school. Tiptonville burned last night.

Wednesday, Mar 20 Cold windy and cloudy

I cut raga for the circle all the morning. Mollie Radford came & spent the morning. I went with Mrs. Grisham, Allie Steel, Mrs. Ridings to Dr. Masons funeral, then to call on Mrs. Hany and her mother, Mrs. Bone. From there to see Mrs. Swink. I bought goods for three sun bonnetts at Mr. Grishams. Came by the grocery and Dr. gave us an apple.

Thursday, Mar 21 Cold & clear

I worked on a bonnett for a negro and sold it for 50cts. Dr. and I went to Yorkville to see brother Joe who was very sick. Carried him a bottle of whiskey & a sack of oranges. Iola spent the night with Willie. Beatrice Grisham spent the afternoon with Iola. We found Miss Musura and brother Joe quite sick.

Friday, Mar 22 Bright and pleasant

Dr. and I came home from Yorkville. I read until time to get dinner. In the afternoon Mrs. Phares and the children came. Mrs. Capt. Grey and her sister, Miss Grey callled. Brother Rodie came by and took Iola and Scott home with him.

Saturday, Mar 23 Cloudy & rainy

I suffered with my back in the morning. I read until time to go to cook dinner. Iola came home at twelve oclock from brother Rodies, he took dinner with us. Iola May spoke the validictory at the concert last night and did well. Lonnie came here looking for his cow. Willie came. Mrs. Harris & Mr H spent the night with Mrs. Phares. Bro Phares gone to Gleason.

Iola, Scott, Dr. & I went to SS. Iola then went to the baptist church with a no of others from our church. In the afternoon Iola went to see about a program for the SS. I went to see Vergie Pace as she was sick. Dr. went to the train to meet brother Meek. All went to hear him preach.

Monday, Mar 25 Bright & cold

I read all the morning. We prepared dinner for brother Meek, Beatrice G. came. In the afternoon Iola went to town and to see Miss G. Wesbrook. Bessie Goodloe came to see us and spent the day. George Blanks came on his way to Dyersburg. I cut rags for the circle carpet. Willie had a silk waist & skirt made.

Tuesday, Mar 26 Bright and pleasant

Iola had a bad crick in her neck. I made a circular ruffle for her dress in the morning. In the afternoon I was sent for by Mrs. Porter to go in the buggy to go to her house to meet the sewing circle. At night George Blanks, Dr., Mrs. & Mr. Harris all went to hear brother Meek preach at the Christian church.

Wednesday, Mar 27 Bright & cool

Iola and I made two bonnetts to sell. Geogre Blanks went home. Dr. sent his little girls something out of the store, candy apples & c. Brother Meek went the country to sell his book, he sold quite a no. in Newbern. Some ladys came in the afternoon to buy butter. We all went to hear brother Meek preach a very good sermon.

Thursday, Mar 28 a bright cool day

I was sick ate no breakfast or dinner took a course of medicin. I worked on a bonnett to sell, mended some and read my new book written by brother Meek. Iola and Willie went to the milener opening and called on some ladys. Dr., Mr. Grisham and Mr. Shoemate trying to get whisky out of Newbern. Will have to take a vote to try a diferent way besides signing a paper.

Friday, Mar 29 rainy & cold

Iola went to see Mrs. Hollis mother of Mrs. Pitt. I mended, cut rags and cut a bonnett and Iola made it to sell to a negro. Mrs. J.I. Jones of Jackson came to Newbern. Lula called on her at Dyersburg today. Dr. went the church tonight to see about a singing school being taught by fine teacher. It rained very hard at night.

Saturday, Mar 30 Bright & cool

I made my first visit to Mrs. Spencers to see a sick child today. Mrs. Iola Jones came to see us, told us about Girtie going to the Philipins to see her husband who was in the waw. Dell Jones came with Mrs. Iola Jones. Iola and Willie went to Mrs. Shoemates then to see Mrs. Phares. I staid at home and read my new book, At Jesus Feet. Beatrice and Mattie Brown came. Brother Rody took kinner with us.

Sunday, Mar 31 Cloudy and cool

We all went to SS. I went to Mattie Browns to carry some silk samples. Iola and Beatrice G. went to see Mrs. Phares. Lulas folks all came to see us, took dinner with Willie. All three families went to the opra to hear Prof. Tate lecture on temperence as we are to have an election to see if we put whisky out of Newbern. Prof. Tate and John E. McCorkle took supper with us. We all sat with Willie awhile in the afternoon. I staid at home the keep the children.

Monday, Apr 1 Cold rainy all day

Prof. Tate spent the day. Lula & children spent the day. Dr. went to Dyersburg to attend court. I cut rags & helped Lula alter a black silk waist bought at Dyersburg. Willie & children were here part of the day. Mrs. Phares very sick. Iola went to spend the night with her. Mr. Tate spoke at Opera hall again tonight. No one went from here but Mrs. & Mr. Norris, rained too hard.

Tuesday, Apr 2 rainy & cold

Lula went home. Dr. went to Dyersburg with her in the buggy. I riped up a sattin waist of Willies. In the afternoon Iola and I went to see Mrs. Phares, she is very sick with inflamation of the stomache. Dr. staid all night with Lula He was a witness in Mrs. Mamass Harris suit with her stepsons. Lawyer Bell died at Dyersburg today.

Wednesday, Apr 3 Clear & cool

I spent the day in waiting on sister Phares. She is very sick. Sent a telegram to her people. Iola staid at home and ironed all the handerchiefs and kept house. Dr. came home from Dyersburg & voted against whisky. It was voted out by a large majority. Willie went Mrs. Phares to Callies and to town. Quite a no. of ladys went to see Mrs. Phares today. I stoped at Mrs Roes and she gave me quite alot of roots and cuttings.

Thursday, Apr 4 Clear & cool

I set out cuttings that Mrs. Roe gave me, then went to town bought carpet warp and sent the carpet to Mrs. Hamel to weave it was the circles carpet. I then went to Sister Phares and spent the day to wait on her as she was very sick. Iola staid at home as she sat up the night before with sister Phares. Cousin Mary McCorkle came to see sister Phares, quite a crowd came but no one was aloud to go in.

Friday, Apr 5 Windy & chowery

I suffered all day with back ache. Iola with headache. I wrote Sallie and cut carpet rags, cooked dinner. Iola went out to see Laura D. Roop and Mrs. Phares. Mrs. Harris also went. I staid at home as I was not well. A new board for the school was appointed. This is the first time in 25 years that Dr. is not a member of the school bord.

Saturday, Apr 6 A cool cloudy day

Iola and I staid at home and mended and cooked dinner for Annie McCorkle and Miss Montgomery. Dick Man planted a part of my garden and scraped a walk in the yard for a brick walk. I set two hens. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Pace, Mrs. Phares and Rose all sick folks. Mollie went to Nashville with Will Radford after leaving him four times. Giving her mother so much trouble.

Sunday, Apr 7 Cool & cloudy

We all went to SS. Brother Phares did not preach as his wife was too sick. Iola with a crowd of the girls went to the C.P. Church to preaching. this was Easter Sunday and many were out in flowers. After dinner I went to see the sick Johnnie Steel, Mrs. Phares, Mrs. Dicksons babe, Mrs. Hollis. Iola went out riding and called to see the sick. Dr. & Scott went to several places.

Monday, Apr 8 Bright pleasant day

After morning work, I went to Fannie Arnetts, Hattie McConnells, Mrs. Barhams, and to Mrs. Arnetts all on business for the church. After dinner I read and cut carpet rags. Iola went to see Johnie Steel as she was sick. Dr. put the colt on the Williams pasture today. Mrs. Phares much better. Rec a letter from Sallie, said she was going to Fort Worth before coming home. Willie came, Sallie sent Scott a book.

Tuesday, Apr 9 A bright pleasant day

We took up two carpets, varnished and did spring cleaning all day. Had a negro woman hired at 50 cts per day. Had a negro man to lay a brick walk in the front yard. Mrs. Hollis was buried today. I went to Mrs. Pitts to see her and to see Johnie Steel after supper I tacked thru three balls of carpet felding. Dr. went to a singing at church.

Wednesday, Apr 10 Bright cool day

I am not well suffering with my back. We are still cleaning. I varnished two bedsteads, a water stand and table. Cut and tack carpet rags for the circles carpet. We hired a negro to fill the old well. Iola worked in the cleaning, took up roses a c. and went to see Johnie Steel. Iola went to Mattie Browns to get our cannon roots and after supper she and Dr. went to prayer meeting. A lecture at the C.P. C took all our crowd.

Thursday, Apr 11 Bright pleasant day

Dr., Scott and I came to Dyersburg, Dr. on business, I on a visit to Lula. Dr. and Scott returned returned to Newbern, I remained. I decided later to take the Osteopthy treatment for a bad suffering in my back which had troubled me for quite a long time.

Friday, Apr 12 Bright part of the day then cloudy

Mr. Wagner papered my room at 2.50 to furnish canvass, tacks, paper and all. Brother Sanders and Mr. Cole came home to dinner with Mr. Cockroft. I took my first treatment in Osteopithy at Lulas house today. I feel very little able to take it but have been persuaded by all the kin so to do.

Saturday, Apr 13 Rained some

There was a heavy rain and hail in Newbern, a very washing rain, lightning struck and burned a barn on Capt. Williams farm. Iola hired a negro to help her clean the house and put down carpet & C. There was some rain in Dyersburg but not heavy.

Sunday, Apr 14 Bright day rain at night

Lulas folks all went to SS and preaching. I staid and kept the babe as I was not well. I read all day, In the afternoon they went out driving. I talked to Dr. over the fone and he told me that Will White was badly whiped at Fulton, Ky., for insulting a lady.

Monday, Apr 15 Cloudy but no rain

Mr. Cockroft and a no. of other lawyers went out to the bottom on a hunt. I took another treatment today. Lizzie goes with me every day. I talked to Dr. over the fone and he said they had a good traid sold some buggies and four cotten planters. Lizzie takes music under Mrs. Penelton.

Tuesday, Apr 16 Bright and cool

I suffered all the forenoon, Iola, Willie, Scott and Maggie came to Dyersburg and spent the day. Brought me some cloaths. I took another treatment today. Iola and Willie went home at four oclock. I am feeling a little better. I wrote a letter to Beatrice and Cicero a letter, also a note for the sewing circle.

Wednesday, Apr 17 Rained all day

I suffered all day with my head and pains in hips. I mended and altered cloaths when I could, but was on bed some of the time. Mr. Cockroft still off on a hunting exposition with a no of others. I could not take my regular treatment as it was raining. Dr. foned me from Newbern that Iola turned off 19 little chickens. The fone was out of repair and we recieved several messages but could not answer them. Lula very busy getting Beatrice things ready to send by Mr. Cockroft when he goes this week.

thursday, Apr 18 Rained all day

Mr. Cockroft came home from the hunt. My Dr. Shackeford went to Memphis to attend an association of the Osteopitheies of the State. Dr. Biggs gave me a treatment for the first time. I helped Lula sew all day on Beatrice cloaths and things to send to Jackson. I talked to Dr. and Iola at Newbern. Read an act of Will Whites whiping in two papers.

Friday, Apr 19 Bright but cool

I worked on two gowns for Lizzie, then Lonnie and I took Mr. Cockroft to the train, then went to the ofice to be treated by the Ostepath. Came to Lulas and kept the babe for Lula and Lizzie to go to town trading. I mended Thelmurs cloaths and heard Lonnies lessons.. Talked to Dr. over the fone he said brother Phares was sick and bro Myhr would preach.

Saturday, Apr 20 Bright day

I took my treatment at nine, then came to Lulas to get ready to go to Newbern. Lonnie carried me to the train. Arrived in Newbern at 11:30 Dr. met me at the train. I found all well. Mrs. Grisham, Allie Steel, Willie, Mrs. Harris, and Rose Blackwood came to see me in the afternoon. I swept the back yard and mended in the late afternoon.

Sunday, Apr 21 Bright day cold

Dr., Iola, Scott and I went to the church to the Missionary intertainment and heard brother Myhr preach at eleven oclock. He went home with us to dinner. In the afternoon we all went to the church to hear brother Myhr talk to the children about the salt. Iola and I went to see Mollie Radford and brother Phares in the afternoon. I then wrote a letter to Sallie.

Monday, Apr 22 Cold but bright

Dr. went with me to the train and I came back to Lulas. Took my treatment and helped Lula sew all the afternoon. I had headache part of the day. Brother Whiten called to see me in the forenoon. Lula went with me to take my treatment at the Ostepath ofice. A girl fell in the fire and burned to death near here, she had a fit, Lula say.

Tuesday, Apr 23 Cool but bright

I took my treatment at eleven oclock. Lizzie went with me. A crowd went to the convention at Union City today which is to be held at the first Christian Church. Lula going to a meeting at the Baptist Church Sewing Circle. Mrs. Cotten came to see me this afternoon. I wrote a letter to Charlie Allen and sewed for Lula all day. I talked to Dr. over the fone, said all was well excep Mr. Spencer.

Wednesday, Apr 24 Bright and pleasant

I am still in dyersburg. Took my treatment. Dr. went to Union City to attend the christian convention. Lula bought a silk shirt for herself and a suit for Lonnie and Robert. Mrs. Sugs and Mrs. Baker called to see Lula today. I talked to Iola over the fone she at Newbern, I in Dyersburg. I helped to make Beatrice a skirt, altered some dresses for Lizzie. I read some. Mr. Cockroft went to the bottum.

Thursday, Apr 25 Bright pleasant day

I altered cloaths for Lizzie all day except when I went to take my Osteopathy treatment. Lula gave me a no of dresses to small for Lizzie for Mary and Olie May. I sent them home by Jim McCork. Dr. came home from Union City where he had been attending the Christian missionary convention. Mr. Cockroft still in the bottom looking for his hogs.

Friday, Apr 26 Bright and pleasant

Dr. telephoned me that Mrs. Milam died last night she leaves a babe three days old. I spent this day with cousin Emma Fowler and Kitty Fumburks. They bought oranges & bamanners for us to eat. Lula sent for me as two ladys called to see me, Mrs. Fields and Mrs. Ivy. I took my treatment at ten thirty. Wrote a letter to Sallie.

Saturday, Apr 27 a bright pleasant day

I finished up two gowns for Lizzie, did some mending for the family. Took my treatment at two oclock. Prof Moore came by Lulas and I went home with him in his buggy. We reached home at sundown and found Mr. Karns and Eula, also Mrs. Phares there to spend the night. I was very tired indeed.

Sunday, Apr 28 A very pretty day

Dr., Lola, Scott and I went to SS. Came home to dinner. After dinner I went to Alberts to see Maggie who was sick with the mumps. Callie Capell and Mrs. Grason were there. Mrs. Cuff from Huntington came in the afternoon. I went to see Mrs. Rick Pace awhile later in the afternoon. Mrs. Phares came and spent the night with us. After supper we all had a good time talking.

Monday, Apr 29 A bright pretty day

I came to Dyersburg on the early morning train took my treatment at 10:30. Mr. Cockroft and Lonnie come to the train to meet me. I did some mending for Lula, and wrote a letter to brother Henry folks. In the afternoon I cut a garment for myself. I read the most of the afternoon. a saloon man from Newbern came to get permission to sell on in Newbern after it being voted out.

Tuesday, Apr 30 Bright and warm

Lula did spring cleaning. Cook up a carpet and did some varnishing. I made a garment for myself and did some mending for Lula. In the afternoon the baptist ladys came to Lulas to sew I helped them and they all gave me their names for our quilt. After supper Lula and I went to Mrs. Cottens to sit until bed time. Mr. Cockroft staid with the children. Dr. sent the wagon to Dyersburg to get a load of machinery.

Wednesday, May 1 Bright and pleasant

I altered some skirts for Lizzie, helped Lula to varnish furniture. Took my treatment at eleven oclock. After dinner I wrote a letter to Sallie and a note to Iola. Mr. Dr. Summers called to see us. I sent a load of burnt wheat to Newbern for chicken feed at 25 cts per bushel. Willie foned me that Mrs. Dr. McConnel was dying. Mr. Codkroft and Lizzie went to prayer meeting. Lula and I staid at home and read and wrote some.

Thursday, May 2 Bright & pleasant

Mrs. McConnell died this morning at four oclock. I sent a letter to Sallie. Mrs. Wall came from Illinois to see her mother. Cousin Rebecc Roach died this morning a 3:30 oclock. I made a silk sofa pillow for Lula today. Recieved. Mr. cockroft had his corn patch and garden planted today. Kitty Fumbanks telephoned for Lula and I to come and spend the day with her.

Friday, May 3 Bright pleasant day

Lula and I spent the day Kitty Fumbanks. I took my treatment at ten oclock then went. Mrs. Ridings came from Newbern to see about taking the Ostepath treatment. Recieved a letter from Sallie and one from Dr. with a note on Mr. Cotten. Cousin Emma came to Kitties to see us this afternoon. Kitty gave me five names for our missionary quilt.

Saturday, May 4 Bright pleasant day

I worked for Lula until time to take my treatment. Lonnie took me to the train. Lawyer Williams had written a letter about Mr. Cockroft and the whisky questions, and I told him we were all hurt so he apolegised. I found all we at home. Iola and I swept the backyard. Several came in to see me. Ric a letter from Homer McCorkle telling of Rebecca Roach death.

Sunday, May 5 Bright warm day

Iola, Dr., Scott and I all went to SS. Brother Phares preached then give up preaching at night for a temperence lecture. I went with Alice Vaniaton to see Mrs. Pace, then to see Laura D. Roop and Mrs. Ridings all sick folks. Dr. and I staid at home and let Iola go to the lecture with the girls. Willie and Albert went out driving. We had a good SS although the McConnell family are all gone to bury Mrs.Dr. McConnell in McNary county this was a very sad day for them. Scott went to see Bush Crenshaw and took a ride with him.

Monday, May 6 Rained last night bright to day

Dr. came with me to the train. When I reached Dyersburg Mr. Cockroft and Lonnie was there to meet me. The horse became frightened at the train and came near runing away. Lula went with me to town. I took the treatment and Lonnie carried me in the buggy to see Maggie Williams. I took dinner with them and Lonnie came for me. I mended and pressed Mr. Cockroft cloaths all the afternoon. Mr. Cockroft went to Boliber to cort carried Beatrice and Cicero some cake and money. I collected fifteen dollars from Cotten. Lula bought a waist for Lizzie.

Tuesday, May 7 Clear but cool

We cut a white organdy for Lizzie and I did some mending. In the afternoon Lula went to the Sewing circle of the baptist church. I went with Lulas children in the surry to meet with the Cemetary Association of Dyersburg to learn all I could as I had been chosen president of one in Newbern. We all then rode over to the cemetary to see how it was kept. Cousin Emma Fowler went with us. I was not well after the horse came so near runing and gave me such a shock.

Wednesday, May 8 Cloudy and cool

I went at 9:30 to take my treatment and paid 15.00on my Drs. bill. Came home and helped Lula sew. In the afternoon Fannie Woolen came to see me. It seemed like olden times to be with Fannie one of the Newbern girls of long time ago. I worked for Lula all the afternoon except when Fan was here. We had fire for this was a cool day. I talked to Dr. McCorkle over the fone.

Thursday, May 9 Cloudy and cool

I foned Iola and Willie to come to Dyersburg and bring my black dress. They came and spent the day. Cousin Emma Fowler came and spent the day. Kitty Fumbanks came in the afternoon with her three little girls and spent the afternoon. Lula worked on Lizzies white dress. Iola on Sallies baby cap. I on Willies dressing sack. I talked to Dr. over the fone and he said Newbern was dull today. I took another treatment at 9:30 felt much better and I sent Sallie a letter.

Friday, May 10 Bright cool day

Lula and I finished up Lizzies organdy dress. I then mended two corset covers for Lizzie and mended some for the children. Lonnie went out in the afternoon to look for the cows and staid until nine oclock in the night. Lula was uneasy and foned to different places for him.

Saturday, May 11 Bright cool day

I read in the morning and helped Lula . It rained in the morning so I could not go to take treatment. In the afternoon Lizzie and I went me to the Osteopithy ofice. I paid off my Dr. bill, 25.00 dollars then went to cousin Emma Fowlers, sent Lizzie after Lula then went calling on f Fan Woolen, Minnie Cox, Mrs. _ightly & Mrs. Dr. Summers. Came home on the night train.

Sunday, May 12 Bright cool day

Iola, Dr., Scott and I went to SS. Brother Phares preached at 10 oclock. In the afternoon I wrote a letter to Sallie, then went to see Mrs. Pace and Mrs. Ridings who was sick. Dr. went with Ludith and Scott to the pasture to see the colt. I went to Willies an staid a while. Several came in later.

Monday, May 13 Bright and cool

a meeting in progress a Obion by brother Renlo of Union City. Several went from here. An organ was put in the church to help in the singing. Brother Rody came to see me, he is putting a new porch to his house. I talked to the Ostepath Drs. and told them I was no better.

Tuesday, May 14 Clear and dusty

I begun a floor pillow of balls made of silk and stuffed with cotten. I helped Iola to make a lawn dress and shirt waist. Brother Phares took dinner with us and gave us a letter from his wife too. After dinner Iola and I went to the sewing circle. some resilutions were gotten up in regard to the death of Mrs. Dr. McConnell.

Wednesday, May 15 Bright and cool

We are still working on Iolas dress triming it in velvit ribon. Allie Steel came to see us. Mr. Grishams three sisters came from the country and Iola and I stoped to see them on our way from prayer meeting. They live in Mississippi and meet but seldom. Had a good prayer meeting subject burden bearing.

Thursday, May 16 Bright and very dry

We are still busy on Iolas dress. Iola and Willie went to town to do some trading, bought a bolt of velvet to trim Iolas dress and a few small articles. Scott has some sign of mumps, but is still playing around and not much sick.

Friday, May 17 Fair and dry

I workded on my silk floor pillow. In the afternoon I met with the cemetary association and I paid my dues. Went to town and paid 3.50 for some curtins to hang in the hall. Came by to see Mrs. Pace & also Mrs. Roop the sick folks.

Saturday, May 18 Dry and fair

Report came that Louise Shoemate was very sick. I went to see her and came by Mrs. Spencers and Mrs. Arnett as she was sick. Came home and read five chapters in my bible and wrote minutes of our Sewing circle.

Sunday, May 19 Rained a while in the morning

We all went to SS, brother Phares called in for the Commencement sermon that was preached by Ross Moore at the College. All preaching in town gave way and the house was full. I was not well so Dr. & I staid with Scott as he was not well. Willie sang on the stage with others.

Monday, May 20 Cloudy and alitte shower

Brother Joe and Annie came. Annie spent the night with Estill and brother Joe with us. We all went to her brother Phares last night. Brother Joe went home, Beatrice Grisham came to see us. Brother Phares took dinner with us.

Tuesday, May 21 Cloudy & rainy

I read and mended, started a silk pillow for Willie. Ivy Pace came home after being gone six months to Nashville at work. We met the Sewing circle at Mrs. Arnetts. Brother Phares read a chapter and prayed for us. Annie McCorkle came, Mattie Romina, Mrs. Ridings and Allie Steel came to see Scott, he is still sick.

Wednesday, May 22 Fair and cool

Recieved a letter from Sallie saying she would start home today. Scott still quite sick. Annie & Mr. green a blind man from Riply took dinner with us. In the afternoon Mrs. Grisham, Allie Steel, Ada Ridings & Beatrice came to see Scott. Dr. and went to hear the church to hear brother Phares preach. Annie McCorkle staid with Willie.

Thursday, May 23 Fair and pleasant

I awakened with headache. Annie McCorkle spent the day and made a white waist. Sallie came on the noon train from Sherman, Tex. on a visit to home. This is our first sight of her babe Gladys. Beatrice Grisham came to see Sallie in the afternoon. Iola and Scott went to Willies late in the afternoon. I worked 15 button holds for Annie and mended some. Bessie Goodloe came.

Friday, May 24 Rain hard and storm

I mended and looked at the opening of Sallies trunk. Looked at the first short cloathes of little Glady Reeves. Mrs. Commer came to see Sallie. I went to see Mrs. Pace in the afternoon. Annie McCorkle came and went with our folks to the Consert. I kept litte Gladys and read the Tennessessan or Newbern paper and Murder case Mrs. Carter in Obion.

Saturday, May 25 Cloudy and rainy cold

We had fire all day. I worked names on the church quilt and mended. Several called to see Sallie. Ora Huie, Rose, Mrs. Walker, Irine Stephens daughter from Halls. We Dr., Iola and I went to Mr. Ridings to a singing. Annie McCorkle spent the day and Finis Scott came to see her. I went to see Mrs. Pace awhile. Cora Townson and Mattie Romine came.

Sunday, May 26 Cold and cloudy

Dr., Iola, Scott and I went to SS and brother Phares preached to a full house, began a meeting with a fine singer. All of Alberts folk, Mr. & Mrs. Burk Folks, Annie McCorkle and a drummer all took dinner with us. I wrote to Olie May and Maurine. Brother Rodies folks all came to see Sallie.

Monday, May 27 Cloudy cold and rainy

I cut a waist for Willie and helped Lula get off to Jackson to attend the commencement as Beatrice and Cicero were there in school. Lula left her babe with me little Thelmer. Several extry trains passed to take people to the reunion of old confederate soldiers. Laura D. Roop, Mrs. Spencer, May Finis McCorkle and others came to see Sallie. Dr., Sallie, Iola & Annie McCorkle & Willie went to preaching at the Opera house.

Tueaday, May 28 Rainy and cold

Dr. and Willie went to Memphis to the reunion of the Confederate soldiers. I wrote to Lula at Jackson. Pattie Shoemate callled to see Sallie. Iola and Sallie went to Mrs. Grishams and carried the two babes. Lonnie brought Scott three bantie chicks. Mrs. Porter, Rose Blackwood and Mis Hampton called to see Sallie. Iola, Sallie, Mrs. Grisham and Allie Steel went to the opera house to hear brother Phares preach tonight. Iola and Sallie called to see Mrs. Pace. Pearl McCorkle spent the night.

Wednesday, May 29 Bright and pleasant

Pearl McCorkle went from here to Mr. Grishens. Dr. and Willie still in Memphis. I have care of Lulas children, Mr. Cockroft left Robert and went on to Dyersburg. Sallie and Iola took supper with Rose Blackwood. I took Thelmer to see Mrs. Pace. Ivy Pace went back to Nashville today. Iola and Sallie went to the Opera house to hear brother Phares preach at four oclock. Dr. returned from Memphis. Mr. Karns spent the night and went to Memphis then to Arkansaw to spend a few months.

Iola and I cooked cakes for Sunday. Sallie spent the night and day with Willie. Lonnie and Robert went to J.E. McCorkles spent the day. Brother Rodie tooke dinner with us. Miss Nammie called to see Sallie. I worked on the floor pillow. Dr., Iola and I went to preaching at the Christian, Sallie and Mr. Cockroft staid at home.

Iola and I went to SS, heard brother Phares preach a good sermon a fine ordience. Mr. Elec Richards and family came home with us. Mary McCorkle took dinner with us. Iola, Sallie, Mr. Cockroft, the two babes and the 2 boys, Lonnie and Robert, took a ride. Scott was too sick to go. Iola and Sallie and Dr. went to preaching. I staid with the babes. A large crowd out.

Monday, Jun 3 Bright pleasant day

Iola had headache. Jessie and Lorine Wheary came to see Sallie. Mrs. Mame Frazier called to see Sallie. Sallie, Iola, Willie, Beatrice, Cora Townson, Mame Frazier and others went to see the triplets in the country. Iola came home sick. Willie brought us some strawburys. Sallie bought a crate to make Shurb. All went to preaching.

Sallie and Dr. went to Willies to take dinner with brother Phares and and brother Wagner the song leader. In the afternoon we all went to Mattie Romines to the sewing circle. Mrs. Grishen and I went to see Mrs. Skinner who was sick and called to see Mrs. Moffett of Tex. Came home and went to preaching, had a good crowd and a fine sermon from brother Phares, good sin.

I had headache but read the most of the morning. Iola and Sallie went to Mrs. Shoemates to pay some calls then to Mrs. Dr. Westbrook. I cooked dinner had chicken pie and irish potatoes. Mr. Cockroft and children were here. Cicero came in from Jackson school. In the afternoon Mrs. Grihen and Florence Steel came to see Sallie. We all went to hear brother Phares preach the meeting broke.

Thursday, Jun 6 Cloudy and pleasant rain at noon

Sallie and Iola went to call on Cora Townson and Mrs. and Miss Glaso. Beatrice Grishen came in to pay 3.00 dollars for Sewing circle to the meeting. We cut a black linster? skirt for Iola. Iola & Sallie went to town called on Cora Townson and Mrs. Glass and Nannie. It rained on them and kept them in town quite awhile. Rody & children spent the night . Iola & Sallie sent to the Marks recital.

Friday, Jun 7 Bright & pleasant

Mrs. Williams and Fossin came to see Sallie in the afternoon. Allie & Pearl Parker came. Mattie Mcgee and Luta McCuller came. Brother Phares took supper with us. We cut off Gladys dresses and made them short. All of Lula children went home and she & Beatrice came from Jackson.

Saturday, Jun 8 Bright & pleasant

Miss Masura Frazier came to see us this morning. Sallie recieved a letter from Edger and took a cry. I worked on Iolas black buster shirt. Iola and Sallie bottled three gallon of strawbury shrub today. Florence Steel sent for Sallies babe, later Sallie went there then to town. I mended and read all the afternoon. Syndy begun cooking at one dollar per month. Miss Masura Frazier spent Saturday night.

Sunday, Jun 9 Rained two hard showers then the sun shined

Sallie, Iola, Dr., Scott and I went to SS took little babe Gladys. We all went home with Albert and Willie to dinner. Iola and Sallie went to see Mrs. Porter and May Finis in the afternoon. Baz Brown and Mattie came to see Sallie and brought their little babe Marsphel. Mrs. Harris sister Ethel Rowlett went home today. This was children day at the ME church. A new baptist church was dedicated at Trimble by J.N. Hall a big diner on the ground.

Iola, Sallie and I went to brother Rodies and spend. Rodie came for us in his big new surry and brought us home. Sallie and the babe went to Willies and spent the night. Rose and Lone Blackwood came and sat until bedtime. Mr. Reeves sent a telegram for Sallie to come home at once. Marier Haldrit died today of consumption. I worked on some botenburg. Iolas new waist.

Iola and Sallie took dinner with Mrs. Grishen. I staid at home and read and cooked a lot of teacakes. Mr. Reeves sent three telegrams for Sallie to return at once. She sent two answers. Miss Masura come & spent the day. I sent a telegram to George Blanks and Olie May to see Sallie before she returned to Tex. Willies folks spent the night with us.

Iola, Sallie, Scott and Gladys went to Dyersburg to spend the day with Lulas family. Dr., brother Phares and I took dinner with Willie. Came home, churned and milked, after supper Dr. and I went to prayer meeting. Iola and Sallie came home on night train. I helped Willie make a shirt for Ludith.

Beatrice Cockroft spent the day with us. Sallie and Iola packed a box of shrub for Sallie to take to Tex. In the afternoon Lizzie Blanks and Matties little girls came. Iola, Sallie, Willie went to the train to meet the folks from Trezevant. I made a floor pillow and several came.

Friday, Jun 14 Cloudy with a shower

Sallie packing and getting ready to go home. Had a family reunion all the children and grandchildren spent the day. Had ice cream and cake for the children. Several called to see sallie, Mattie Brown, Allie Steel, Rose Ellen and others. At four 30 Sallie left for Sherman Tex. Lulas family spent the night. Lizzie and Maurine spent the night with Willie. Cicero is making a pressing club.

Saturday, Jun 15 A bright pleasant day

Lulas family went home. Olie May went home with them. Annie Mccorkle came to meet their preacher and he failed to come. I helped Lizzie Blanks to finish up a white waist and mended cloaths. Miss Masura Frazier came to see us as she spending the week with Mrs. Pace. Mollie and Will Radford parted the sixth time in one year.

De., Iola, Scott, and Maurine and I went to SS. Lizzie Blanks went to baptist church. Willies family took dinner with Mrs. Capell, Lizzie and Maurine did also. In the afternoon Dr. and I took a ride to the cemetary. Miss Masura came in the afternoon. Our peaches are ripe and we enjoy them, boys steal them. I wrote Sallie a letter the first after she left home on a visit.

I finished a letter to Sallie and one to the Christian Guide. Mended some, read some and worked on Iolas black skirt. Lizzie Blanks and Maurine took dinner with us. brother Rodie braking our colt to work to the buggy, the colt is two years old. I had some corn planted in my garden today. We have peaches ripe as early as this.

I went to see Mrs. Goodwin whas was very sick. Iola canned green grapes. I finished Iolas black skirt. After dinner Iola, Willie and I went to Mag McCorkles to the sewing circle. Iola and Beatrice called to see Estell Brown. Lizzie Blanks took dinner with us. Miss Masura came to see us. Lizzie blanks went to see Mrs. Walker. Willie took Miss Masura Frazier and the children out riding.

I made a silk cushion or floor pillow for Olie May and Maurine. Lizzie Blanks and Maurine went to Dyersburg to visit Lula Cockroft. Iola and Willie went to town to look at the new cole oil stoves and bought me a new lawn dress. Miss Masura Frazier came to see me. After supper we all went to prayer meeting. I was sick today and took calomel.

I mended all the morning. Mr. Cockroft took dinner with us. Aunt Zura came in for some of us to go to see Mrs. Ridings with her. Recieved a letter from Sallie saying she arived safely and found all well. I then wrote a letter to her. After supper I went to Mrs. Paces and sat until bed time. All seemed very glad to see me. Mollie was there as she had left Will.

I went to see Miss Frankie Dunivant who was sick, stoped a bit with Mrs. Walker. In the afternoon I met with the Cemetary association and a name was given Fairview to the Newbern Cemetary. I then went to town did some trading, Called to see Mame Frazier, Mrs. Williams & Mrs. Harris. Called on Mrs. Cornell for the first time. Iola and Beatrice G.? went to see George McConnells sick babe. I read a letter from Sister Phares to Mrs. Harris.

Saturday, Jun 22 Bright and warm

Iola worked on a waist for Scott. I mended and read until late, then went to Willies mended some for her, then I gathered a mess of peas for Sunday. Came home and took a bath, studied my SS lesson and read fifteen chapters in my bible. George McConnells babe was sick but is was too hot for me to dress to go anywhere.

Sunday, Jun 23 Very warm and dry

Dr., Scott, Iola and I all went to SS. Came home and read until twelve oclock as I had cooked dinner when I cooked breakfast. After dinner I took a nap then read Hebrews about the two covenants, Christ the true covenant. After supper Dr. and I went to see George McConnells sick babe. Iola and Scott went walking and went to Mrs. Goodwins and Mrs. Ridings. We all came home and cooled off ready for sleeping.

Monday, Jun 24 Bright and hot

I workded on altering dresses and mending. I read the review in SS lesson, read the bible and papers, went to Mrs. Paces and to Laura D. Roops with Willie. I discovered a dog in the Christian Church that had been in two days. I then hurried to find the keys and have it taken out. I was Mr. Grishens dog. Beatrice Grishen came and Rose Blackwood came.

Tuesday, Jun 25 Bright warm and dry

I finished two dresses for Olie May Blanks, cooked dinner. Iola helped Willie to bake two or four cakes for Ludiths partie. After dinner Iola and I went to Mrs. Grishens to the Sewing circle. Willie went to town to have Marys tooth pulled and Maggie cut her foot on a blade at the store. The Mayor Swinler had a big law suit over persons selling whisky without license in Newbern.

Wednesday, Jun 26 Bright and warm

I mashed blackburys that had spoiled to make wine, mended and read in the forenoon. Cooked dinner and wrote a letter to Sallie. After dinner I was sick but made balls for a floor pillow for Rose Blackwood. Lizzie and the children came from Dyersburg. Beatrice Grishen and Rose came. Willie gave Ludith a partie, had ice cream an shurbert. Dr. and I went to prayer meeting.

Thursday, Jun 27 Dry and warm

I was sick with bowel trouble. Scott had fevor and a rising on his thy. Iola, Lizzie Blanks, Beatrice and large no went to see Iola Scoby who had been severely whiped by Priny her step mother. Mrs. Parter came. I sent a letter to Sallie. Brother Phares come from Gleason and took supper with us, he had seven additions in his meeting. Lizzie Cockroft went to a partie at P. Shoemates.

Friday, Jun 28 Bright & warm very dry

I worked on a dress for Olie May and made some balls for a silk pillow. Mrs. Porter and Rose Blackwood came to see me and staid until eleven oclock. Lizzie blanks spent the night and day with Mrs. Bradshaw and returned in the afternoon. Rev Caridine begun a meeting at the ME Church. He is a sanclified second blessing man. The weather was so warm I could not go, so we all staid at home. Those that went said he cut monkey shines. Lizzie Cockroft went home on the early train.

Saturday, Jun 29 Warm and dry

I mended stockings, read the Newbern and Dyersburg paper, cook dinner, then helped to make a jumper for Iola as she was getting ready to go home with Lizzie Blanks. Lizzie B. and Iola went to hear Rev. Carodine preach. I staid bathed the children and self. The night was warm and Mrs. Harris, Dr. and I sat out in the open air to keep cool. recieved a letter from Sallie saying Edger was not well.

Sunday, Jun 30 Warm & dry

Dr., Iola, Scott, Olie May, Maurine and I went to SS. Lizzie B. went to the baptist church. Dr. and I went to the ME church after SS to hear Rev. Carodine preach, Sanctification. Dr. and Ludith went to brother Rodies to get our young filly in the afternoon, then went with Olie May, Maurine, Mary and Maggie to the cemetary to visit our Matties grave. Iola went to see Mrs. Phares. Lizzie went to see Mrs. Goodwin.

Monday, July 1 Warm and dry

Dr. went to Dyersburg to attend court as he is Magistrate. I went to see Laura D. Roop. Cooked dinner and finished a letter to Sallie. Iola and Lizzie are making a silk waist for Iola. Mattie Brown, Mrs. Billy Porter, Fossie Williams and Allie Steel came to see us. Lizzie Blanks, Iola a nd Allie Steel went to the ME Church to hear the sanctified Caridine preach they were gone until eleven oclock.

Tuesday, July 2 Dry and warm

We were all buisy a getting Iola, Scott, Lizzie Blanks, Olie May and Maurine off to the train going to Obion, Greenfield and Trezivant. I staid to keep house with Dr. and keep every thing in place. After dinner I went to Willies to the Sewing circle. Came home and found Mrs. Goodwin here. I then cooked supper and went to see Mrs. Pace and sat until bedtime. Dr. went to the store and staid until nine oclock.

Wednesday, July 3 Warm dry & dusty

I made a floor pillow for Rose and one for Sister Phares. Brother Rodie took dinner with us. Sancitive meeting still in progress. I gave Rodie a shirt tie and three collars. Mrs. Phares came in the afternoon and I gave her a silk floor pillow. Mrs. Rich Pace came for the first time in a year she having been down six months. Dr. and I went to hear Carodine and was up until eleven oclock. Laura Roop has slow fevor.

Thursday, July 4 Dry & warm slight shower in the afternoon

I set 50 eggs today. I took off 20 little chicks. I had headache on getting up. Dr. and I went to Willies and staid awhile. I bought an ice cream freezer paid 2.25 for it. Dr. came from the store sick at four oclock. Rec a letter from Iola at Greenfield saying they were having a good time and Scott was good. I wrote a letter to Iola after night.

Friday, July 5 Cloudy with a shower

After morning work I went to Rose Blackwoods to take dinner. Dr. went also. Willie telephoned that Mr. Cockroft was there we came to Willies and cut my lawn dress. Willie helped me to sew. I came home and Mrs. Spencer came. I read the Newbern paper Christian Guide, SS lesson then went to Mrs. Paces to take the Dyersburg paper giving as act of Mr. Townson being shot at Corrathersville.

Saturday, July 6 Cloudy but no rain

Will McNail babie died and was buried today. I finished my lawn dress and at four oclock I was taken with bowel trouble. I churned, cooked supper and milked by this time my back give out. Mary came and spent the night. I foned Dr. to come home. Brother Rodie came and eat dinner. Willie came in awhile.

Sunday, July 7 Bright dry & pleasant

I was too poly to cook breakfast, but was up and washed dishes and cleaned the house. Dr. and I went to SS then went home with Willie & took dinner, staid until time to feed and milk. I read and studied the SS lesson. Dr. Donnells wife died today. Brother Phares preached at eleven but gave way for the ME meeting at night. We decided to have a SS picnic.

Monday, July 8 Cool & clear

I finished up morning work and wet to see Laura D. Roop who was down sick with slow fevor. I gave her some wine that I had made for her sick stomache. I then cooked dinner after dinner I went to see Mrs. Shoemate, Mrs. Arnett. Came home and gathered two gallon of plums to make preserves. After supper I went with Mary to Mrs. Spencers to sit awhile. Mary spent the night with Dr. and I. This is a cold night.

Tuesday, July 9 Cool & bright

I was sick all night but I got up and made five qts. of plum preserves. Willie came to see me and Dr. went to her house for dinner. I was on bed all the morning except to mind to the preserves. Virgie Pace came over to talked to me. Rec a letter from Iola at Trizevant. After the circle adjourned Mrs. Barham, Mrs. Grishen and Mrs. Ridings came to see me. I was sick on bed all day. Dr. wrote to Iola and told her of my being sick.

Wednesday, July 10 Clear & cool

I got up to make Dr. some biscuits then went back to bed. Dr. did all the work of the morning, milking, sweeping and c. Beatrice G. and Mrs. Pace came to see me, later Callie Capelle and Willie came. Willie has a good dinner and Dr. & Callie are there ice cream & c. The picnic was posponed as it was so very dry & dusty. Mrs. Spencer came to see me. Willie came to spend the night and she, Mary and Dr. went to prayer meeting. I staid at home with Maggie.

Thursday, July 11 Clear and very dry & hot

Willies folks spent last night with us. Willie cleaned my house and Ella cooked breakfast. I am some better today. Mrs. Billy Porter came to see me. Rose and Mrs.Arnett came later Ellen Goodloe came. I was on bed the most of the day. I gave Willie two chicken and she had our dinner cooked. I read the Acts of Christian Standard and Dyersburg Gazett. Jim Hall has a ____ son. Mrs. John Halls mother died.

Friday, July 12 Warm and dry This is a hot day

I was able to get breakfast and clean the house. Mrs. Porter came and took the sewing circle carpet to her sister to weave. Mollie P. Radford came and staid all the morning. I altered my black organdy. Rec a letter from Iola and Sallie. Wrote one to Lula and sent the two I recieved. Albert at home on vacation, salery still goes on. I have read the most of this day. Mary Rodgers came and spent the night with Dr. and I. This was a very warm night.

Saturday, July 13 Cooler but dry a little cloudy

Recieved a letter from Edger and Sallie with 20.00 dollars to pay back what Sallie borrowed. I wrote a letter to Iola. Brother Phares very sick have Dr. Cherry. Dr. McCorkle went to see him. Fannie Arnett came in the afternoon spent the afternoon. Beatrice Grishen came, I told her of brother Phares sickness an she went to see him. This was a big trade for the store sold hay mowers, several buggy & c.

Sunday, July 13 Thunder and clouds but no rain

Dr. and I went to SS then Willie and I went to brother Phares. Dr. and I went to Willies to dinner. I gave Willie a chicken. The church had a meeting to talk over business. Dr. went to see brother Phares in the afternoon. This was a warm day, rain badly needed. Bright Harris very low. Willie and children sat with us until bedtime.

Monday, July 15 Bright and warm in the morning

After I finished morning work I read my bible and mended cloaths for Dr. Willie came and I gave her plums to Preserve. Dr. went to see brother Phares awhile, bought four doz chickens from Mrs. Goodrum to sell at the store. Fannie Haskins Bane has a fine boy. A heavy cloud rose but no rain fee for us, so very dry and dusty. Ellen Goodloe came to see me. After supper I went over to Mrs. Spencers awhile. Maggie and Ludith spent the night with us. Mary went home with brother Rodie.

Tuesday, July 16 Dry and warm

Willie went to brother Phares. I went to her house and made some plum preserves and Dr. and I took dinner there. In the afternoon Willie and I went to the sewing circle. Rose gave us some good ice cream. Mrs. Ridings and I went to see brother Phares and staid until sundown. Dr. went after supper and put ice on his stomache. Mrs. Spencer made sherbert and sent me some. I wrote a letter to Sallie and ordered some battenburg patrons. Willie and her girls staid all night with (missing) & Ludith staid with us.

Wednesday, July 17 Very very dry but a good breeze

I made a floor pillow and hung a lace curtin in little room after I finihed up Morning work, I then read several chapters in my bible. Willie having a good dinner looking for Beatrice Cockroft and a young man from Dyersburg. I hemstiched a hankerchief, worked on lace curtin for the room. Went to see Mrs. Pace and Laura Roop, gave her some cordial for her bowels and she gave me some apples. Was cloudy but no rain.

Thursday, July 18 Warm & dry

After morning work I went to brother Phares as he is still very sick. I came home to send him some buttermilk. Dr. and I took dinner with Willie. I heled make Mary a lawn dress and worked on a hankerchief. Bright Harris died today of slow fevor, he was a very wicked man all his life. Mrs. Pace and Mollie came. Mrs. Steel came. Mrs. Barham made up money to buy brother Phares a night shirt. Carried him some light bread & c. Willie went to see him later and brought Eula.

Friday, July 19 Warm & dry

I read most all the morning. Willie went to brother Phares and staid all the morning helping to wait on him. I made Maurine Blanks a bonnett. Went to see Mrs. Wilson who was sick at Mr. Roops. We looked for Iola but was disappointed, she missed the train. Beatrice G. came Willie sat awhile with us. Mrs. Harris seeming? getting ready to be sick. Dr. telephoned to find out about Iola and it cost 50 cts. Bright Harris was buried. Vergie Pace came. Mrs. Place came to telephone Laurance Pace at Dyersburg.

Saturday, July 20 Dry and warm

After finishing morning work, I washed several garments. I then read until eleven oclock then made a fire to cook and iron. I read until 4 oclock. Iola came this afternoon from Trezevant. Iola and Beatrice went to brother Phares after supper to take some medicin. Elic McCorkle set up with brother Phares. Iola ia suffering with her right lung and looks a little thin since her spell at Trezevant. She stoped to Hiel McCorkles family at Greenfield, also the Y. Allens family.

Sunday, July 21 Dry and very warm

Iola has sick headache. Dr., Scott and I went to SS. Dr. wrote a letter to Edger then went to see brother Phares who is still down with slow fevor. In the afternoon we froze some shrub. Beatrice Grishen came to see us. Beatrice and Iola went to brother Phares after supper. Mr. Grishen came to see about someone sitting with brother Phares. Allie Steel and Mrs. Grishen came and sat until bedtime. I am almost down with my back. read and rested in the afternoon.

Monday, July 22 Dry & very hot thermometer 99 in the shade

My back giving me trouble. Iola not well but went to see Mrs. Wilson and Mattie Brown. In the afternoon went to see brother Phares. Laura D. came for me to fone for the Ostepath Dr. to come no more if he was called, so I foned him not to come until Mr. Wilson came home. Mollie Radford came over. Beatrice came with brother Phares babe but could not keep it as it was so badly spoilt.

Tuesday, July 23 Dry and warm very dusty

Willie went to Halls with Albert to spend the day with Mattie Wyatt, took Maggie with her. Mary spent the day with Vera Townson, Ludith with us. Mr. Sam Wilson came after me to ge see Mrs. Wilson she was bleeding from the gums or lungs. Iola, Beatrice and I went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Barhams. I came by and stoped to see Fannie Arnett. Mrs. Hildrith died at six oclock, they foned Iola to come and sit up but she was not able from a pain in her side. Mr. Harris worked until one oclock. I sent Maurine Blanks a new bonnett.

Wednesday, July 24 Dry and warm

Iola & Beatrice went to Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Porter and brothe Phares. Iola took dinner at Mrs. Grishens. Willie came and staid awhile with me. I drew and hemstitched some handerchiefs. I sold two lbs of butter. Iola came home and went to Willies to spend the afternoon. I went to see Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Pace. I read the rest of the afternoon. Iola and I went to prayer meeting. Dr. was in a suit and could not go.

Thursday, July 25 Dry and warm

I worked on hankerchiefs and read the State Gazett and Obion paper. I read several chapters in my bible. Beatrice Grishen came. I telephoned to the Osteopethy Dr. to come to see Mrs. Wilson. After supper I went to Mrs. Roops to meet the Osteopithy Dr. as Mr. Wilson wanted me to do so. Rec a letter from Sallie saying she was going to Galvestern to spend a week.

Friday, July 26 Dry but not so hot

I staid with Mrs. Wilson until twelve oclock last night. This morning I drew and made two hankerchiefs mend some for Willie, pressed and altered pants for Dr. In the afternoon I went to town then to see brother Phares, stoped to see Mattie Brown, and Mrs. Wilson. At ten oclock Mrs. Harris gave birth to a fine boy. I dressed it then went to bed sick. Was sick all night. Mrs. Arnett and Mrs. Spencer were here, she had an easy time.

Saturday, July 27 Dry but pleasant

I tried to get breakfast but was not able. Iola cooked it for me. Mr. and Mrs. Harris ate of our breadfast. Willie and her children came before breadfast to see the babe. I helped Iola cook dinner and sent brother Phares some vegetable soup. Mollie Radford came and spent the most of the afternoon . Iola & Willie went to the church to clean it. Mrs. Roberson came to be with her daughter, Mrs. Harris. I finished one more hankerchief. Dr. was not very well today so he staid from the store at night.

Sunday, July 28 Dry warm & dusty

Dr., Scott, Iola and I went to SS. Mrs. Colwell and family joined the SS. We had a church meeting & talked at length about the finance of the church & C. Iola, Dr. and I went to Willies and ate ice cream. Albert and Willie came. Mr. Spencer came. Beatrice & Ada came awhile. Iola and I helped to take care of the babe awhile. This is a drough in general all over the United States.

Monday, July 29 Dry and warm at 12 rain rain

I made a hankerchief for Lulas birthday. Made button holes for Scotts waist. Bush Crenshaw spent the afternoon with Scott. Iola and Willie went to brother Phares and to Mr. Grishens. I read all the afternoon. Sent Scott to town for samples for myself a dress. The weather so very dry & hot No one here can attend the meeting at Yorkville. Albert Rodgers went to York on business but the heard Ed Shriyly preach.

Tuesday, July 30 Dry warm and very dusty all vegatation drying

Mrs. Phares came to see Mrs. Harris babe. Scott went to see Douglass Spencer. Mrs. Shoemate gave the Sewing circle a basket of carpet rags. Sofa McCorkle, Lizzie Cockroft and Ruth Cotten came from Dyersburg on 9:30 train, took dinner and then went out to John E. McCorkles to spend the week. It rained hard at twelve on to 3. Beatrice Grishen came. Had no sewing circle as it rained. Dr. staid at home as he had bad cole. I went to see Mrs. Pace.

Wednesday, July 31 Cloudy with a litte rain

We sent Lula three birthday presents, worked on drawn hankerchief. In the afternoon Iola went to town and bought me two black lawn dresses. I cut and almost made one, sister Holland came in the afternoon. Mrs. Phares sent Mrs. Harris baby frame and fly spread also starch bag. We all went to prayer meeting. The babe was taken sick at 12 oclock and they came for me. I gave 2 drops of lobelia.

Thursday, Aug 1 Bright and pleasant

Iola and I made a lawn rapper. Mrs. Pace, Mrs. Grishen and Mrs. Ridings came to see the babe. Willie and her children came and they a fine game of hide and seek. Willie and her children then went to Yorkville to see the kinfolks. Lula and the three youngest came . This is Lula 38th birthday. Cicero staid at home. Mr. Cockroft and Bestrice are at Monteagle on a pleasure trip.

Friday, Aug 2 Cool and fair

Lulas children spent the morning. After dinner we all went in Lulas surry and spent the afternoon with Brogher Rodie and children. Mary D. had been sick and was looking bad. We had a treat of nice watermellons and mush mellons. Willie came home and Lula went home with her and spent the night.

Saturday, Aug 3 Bright and pleasant

I awoke with headache, yet I helped about the morning work. Lula took dinner and left at 2 to go home. Brother Joe McCorkle took dinner, bought a new buggy from our store. Esther, Allie and Beatrice came to see us in the afternoon. No news from Sallie in two weeks. Jamie McCorkle came from Tex. said Mag was sinking fast with consumption.

Sunday, Aug 4 Cloudy with some rain

We all went to SS, Brother Phares preached at eleven. We discussed having a protracted meeting decided not to have it as we were behind with brother Phares. I did not agree with them, I thought it a bad step. I went to see Mr. Roop he has slow fevor. Came by to see Mrs. Pace. Iola and Dr. went to John E. McCorkles and to hear brother Calhoon preach at Lamalsemac. I staid alone. Mr. & Mrs. Harris in their room.

Monday, Aug 5 Cloudy & rainy

Iola gathered grapes and we made grape preserves. Dr. went to the country to collect in the morning. Beatrice Grishen came. Mrs. Roberson went home. I wrote a letter to Sallie no news from her in two weeks. Edner Dickson came. Iola hemed cloths for Mrs. Harris and we finished a drawn hankerchief. I have a bad cole and sore throat. Dr. and I went after supper to see Mr. Roop sick with Typhoid fevor. Dr. Hamelsy attending him.

Thursday, Aug 8 Bright and pleasant

Scott went with Dr. to Dyersburg. Iola and I went to the SS picnic. Brother Scott baptized nine at the Pace pond. Brother Calhoon did the preaching. A large crowd went out. Brother Phares and family went to SS picnic. Mrs. Steel and Beatrice Grishen came to see Iola and I after supper. Dr. still not well at Dyersburg in cort.

Friday, Aug 9 Bright warm and dusty

All the preachers were there. Had prayer service at the house. Iola and Allie went to John E. McCorkles for dinner, then came here. I read and mended. Lizzie V came home with Dr. as he was sick, he staid home and took medicin to keep off fevor. Beatrice G., Mattie Wyatt, Miss Gr(missing) form Tex, Mrs. McConnell and Mrs Glass all came today. brother Rodie took dinner brought us a watermellon and I cut his hair. Sunday, Aug 11 Rain cloudy in morning rainy in afternoon

We all went to SS, Lizzie went with us. Willies family, Lula Grishen & Lizzie and others went o Lemalsumac to preaching. they all then went to the baptising. Iola, Beatrice, Bessie & Clidis went in the afternoon and staid all night. Dr. went to see Mr. Roop, then to see Albert after supper as he was going off. Lizzie and I discussed the diferent modes of of baptism as she had heard a sermon from brother Calhoon on this subject. I wrote a letter to Sallie and went to see Mrs. Pace.

Monday, Aug 12 Rain and sunshine

Dr. and Lizzie went to Dyersburg on early train. Iola & Beatrice spent last night at Erh Grishens. Iola is helping Willie to cut a dressing sack. I finished a letter to Sallie and cut rags for the circle. In the afternoon Iola gathered peaches and we canned six quarts. Iola went to see Mrs. Phares to get her to come and stay with us but she staid at home. Willie came after supper to show us her new dressing sack.

Tuesday, Aug 13 Bright & warm

After morning work I helped Iola make Scott a pare of pants. I then cut rags for the circle. Iola, Willie and I went to the sewing circle at Mrs. Goodwins. Cassie Hamelton sent for all the circle to come to her house as she was going to move away We all went and she gave us grapes and peaches. Wiilie and I went to see Mrs. Scott and Mrs.Phares. I came home swept around the door, milked the cow and cooker supper. We then read until bed time.

Wednesday, Aug 14 Rain Rain all day

Iola had a sick headache. I cut rags for the circle, made a cook apron and read some. Willie went to Dyersburg on the evening train. Dr. still in the court in Dyersburg having fevor every night. Mrs Phares came to spend the night with us. Olive Dain came and took supper and Beatrice and Lula Grishen came and went to the train with her. Mrs. Phares & I went to prayer meeting, there was a good crowd out. Iola staid as she was sick.

Thursday, Aug 15 Bright and cool

Mrs. Phares went home. I cut a pare of drawers for Dr. and Iola helped me to stitch them. In the afternoon I went to call on Mrs. Paten, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Goodloe and Mrs. Colwell at the Gilmore hotel. I spent one half hour at each place, stoped and bought some indianhead domestic. The meeting closed with 17 additions.

Friday, Aug 16 Rain all day

I mended and read all the morning. Willie and Dr. still in Dyersburg. Ludith had two chills there and was quite sick. We talked over the fone twice a day. In the afternoon I drew threads for a table cover. Iola mad a hemstich handerchief and read some. We sell milk everyday and some butter. We sat with Mrs. Harris who is renting our back rooms, her babe Charlie is three weeks old today.

Saturday, Aug 17 Raining all day

It was nine oclock before we were through with morning work in the lot and cookroom. Mrs. Porter came to collect money on weaving the circle carpet. I went to Mrs. Paces to see after having a tree raised that blew down in the church yard. A nice young student of Lexington College came to get names of church members not taking the Christian Guide. Dr. returned from Dyersburg after another week on gran jury, he is some better but has fevor.

Sunday, Aug 18 Bright and pleasant

We all went to SS. In the afternoon we read. Dr. and the little boys went out driving, later Iola and Willie went stoped at Mr. Nix and went over to the cemetary. Mrs. Tildy Pace died today. Emett Arnett came to get paper to write to Otis Phares. Albert Harvy came to Dr. on secret business. Willies family spent the day and night with us.

Monday, Aug 19 Bright in the morning cloudy at night

I and Iola gathered plumbs and made one gallon of preserves. Iola washed and ironed hankerchiefs. In the afternoon Iola went to Willies to see her sweet pickle that she was making. I read and worked on drawn work. Dr. went back to Dyersburg to finish up cort cases. Beatrice Grishen went to Obion, came by to give me the circle book. Mrs. Phares spent the night.

Tuesday, Aug 20 Rain for three hours very hard

Iola and I made one gallon of sweet pickle. Iola washed three counterpins. In the afternoon Mrs. Grishen and I started with Ludith in a buggy to Mattie Romines, it rained so hard we stoped in the livery stable for awhile. I came home & cut rags all the afternoon. I hired uncle Jim to work the garden. Dr. came home from Dyersburg. Iola & Scott spent the night with Sister Phares. Dr. brought Mr. Spencer up to supper.

Wednesday, Aug 21 Rained at five in the afternoon

Mr. Spencer took breakfast with us. Iola came in from Mrs. Phares at eight oclock. Beatrice Cockroft came in to see us on the eleven train. Iola, Beatrice and Willie went to town trading. I staid and read all the afternoon. Dr. at home today. I had Uncle Jim to clean the weads out of the yard. We gathered peaches to can. Beatrice made a engagement to go to a party, broke it and went with us to prayer meeting.

Thursday, Aug 22 Cloudy but no rain

Affter morning work I pealed peaches and caned five quats. I then gathered grapes and we made one gallon of unfermented wine for the church. Iola had a negro to scower cookroom and dining room. I hemstiched in the afternoon. Beatrice & Ludith went to brother Rodies. Beatrice then took a ride with Mr. Rosenbloom for two hours. Cicero came to see us, he and Iola went to Willies, then he went to town. We then ate a nice watermellon. Mose Rosenbloom and Farris called on Beatrice at Willies. Mrs. Phares spent the night with Willie, Cicero with us.

Friday, Aug 23 Bright and warm

After morning work I went to see Cathline Barham who was sick with slow fevor. I stoped at Fannie Arnetts, came home and fixed dinner. Iola not well. Afternoon Allie D _____ by for me and we went to the cemetary association, then Cicero carried us in the buggy to the cemetary. Iola and Circero went to a partie in a wagon with a crowd to Mr. Easons. Sallie sent a roll to us of goods, Iola & I a dressing sack.

Saturday, Aug 24 Cloudy & warm

We caned one gallon of peaches, cooked lightbread, cooked dinner. At 10:30 Mr. Wheary and Eudora came & took dinner with us. Iola and Eudora went to Willies to the spend the afternoon. Mrs. Phares and Rose came to make up a crowd to go Halls to brother Phares meeting wanted a crowd of ten. Iola went to the train with Eudora. Hattie McConnell came to sit awhile after supper. I wrote a letter to Sallie and staid with Scott, read SS lesson & c.

Sunday, Aug 25 Bright warm day

De., Iola & Scott went to SS. I went with a crowd to Halls to attend brother Phares meeting. Mrs. Porter Nat and I went to Irine Stephens my old friend. We then went to SS and to preaching at 11. Took dinner with Irine then to the baptising at Chessnut bluff river, came back to Mattie Wyatts we the went to the depot to start home. There was a very large crowd on the platform ready for the train, ten went from Newbern. We landed in Newbern at 8 found all well. Iola up reading. Irine had the finest watermellon I had seen this season.

Monday, Aug 26 Rain at 7:30 one hour

Iola cut her new dressing sack the Sallie sent her and I helped her to make it. Willie and Cattie Capell came in the afternoon. I wrote to Maurine Blanks. I studied SS lesson awhile. Mary and Maggie spent the afternoon and had the water from the hidren all across the yard. After supper Beatrice and Lula Grishen came to see us and we had a good time. I sent Sallie a letter.

Tuesday, Aug 27 Bright pleasant day

Iola helped me to make a black spoted lawn. Cicero and Lonnie came and took dinner. Ludith went home with them to be at a baseball game. Ora Nun Win had twins and they died, she not doing well. We went to sewing circle at Mattie Romines. Came home and pealed pares that Lula sent me and made 16 lbs in preserves. Willie & the children spent the night with us. Dr. went to town after supper.

Wednesday, Aug 28 Bright & pleasant

We finished my dress & cut and made a shirt for Iola. Mrs. Holland came and I opened a rising on her back. We made one and one half gallon of quince preserves. Lula gave me the quinces. Willie and little girls spent the night with us. We all went to prayer meeting, Subject A spiritual life. Willie made Callie Capells babe a present of a nice dress skirt and pins as she is her name sake. Went from prayer meeting to give it to her, then agreed to take her to Dyersburg.

Thursday, Aug 29 Bright and pleasant

Willie, Mrs. Capell, Mary & Maggie went to Dyersburg. Dr. having the negro house repaired by uncle Spence. Iola and I made grape preserves. Brother Rody came and brought me a watermellon. Beatrice and Laura Roop came. I read all the afternoon. Iola went to Mrs. Grishens to see Esther Gorman. Then to see Mrs. Roop and Mrs. Pace. Willie came in from Dyersburg at 8:30 very late as children were out.

Friday, Aug 30 Bright and warm

I had washing done at home for the first time in years. Iola and I ironed until time to go to the cemetary association which met at Mrs. Barhams. I then went to see Eunice Cherris awhile. After I came home Mrs. Spencer had us telephone for a Dr. for Thelmer as she had chicken pox. I then went to Willies, then home, milked & helped cook supper. Cicero came and brought Sister Lattie in a buggy. Dr. put in the Newbern an adverisement want to be Mayor of Newbern.

Saturday, Aug 31 Bright & cool

Iola and I ironed all the morning and cooked dinner. Beatrice came in awhile. Cicero and brothe Rody took dinner with us. Willie came in the afternoon and spoke freely of her hard times when she first married as Albert had no job. Cicero and Bob Simmons took some girls out driving. Laura D. and Mr. Roop came to see us. Cicero spent the night with us. Mrs. Fuller came for me to give an ? to Dick Man for work on Cemetary.

Sunday, Sept 1 Bright and cool

Dr., Iola, Scott and myself went to SS. Brother Phares preached on the conversion of Cornelious, A large crowd was out. Dr. went with Cicero after the colt. Iola & Willie went to see Ora Win in the afternoon. I wrote to Sallie, went to Mrs. Arnetts to a singing, then to Mrs. Grishens to see Esther. After supper we all went to hear brother Phares on Christian baptism preached by request of an old man.

Monday, Sept 2 Cool and fair

Iola had bad headache in the forenoon. I read my bible and mended some. Beatrice came and brought Iola some fine roses. I went to Willies a while in the afternoon. Came home to help Iola off to Dyersburg. Cicero and Leslie went home early in the morning. Iola and Scott went to the train at four oclock to spend a few days with Lula. I churned and let Eden and Laura D. have butter & milk. After supper I went to Willies and sat until bed time. Dr. came by from the store for me.

Tuesday, Sept 3 Bright & pleasant

I finished up morning work and went to see Mrs. Pace. Prina Scoby died last night, buried at Cemetary this afternoon. Mrs. Allie Steel came to see me in the morning. I talked to Lula & Iola over the fone. Mrs. Pace came to see me. I went to the sewing circle 10 present. Dr. & I went to the Scoby burial, then came home , ate a watermellon, then went to Willies to spend the night. Mrs. Hany has a girl, born today.

Wednesday, Sept 4 Bright & pleasant

Mrs. Barhams house burned last night at two oclock. Allie Steel went with Gorden to Dyersburg to buy goods for Mr. Barhams children. Mrs. Tea Smith called to see me. I was disappointed in not getting to go to brother Fulks to spend the day. Willie and children went & brother & sister Phares. I made a bib for the circle, was not well at all today. I let Mrs. Barham move what things she saved from the fire to my house that they might be taken care of. Dr. and I went to prayer meeting then spent the house alone.

Thursday, Sept 5 Bright & pleasant

Mamie & Vanlier Clement spent the day. I have been quite unwell for two days. Beatrice Grishen came & helped me churn. Brother Rody came for the girls from Kenton and stoped with us awhile. I finished a bib for the circle and did all the work. Recieved a letter from Sallie. Mrs. Barham came to get some cloaths for the children. Iola and Scott returned from Dyersburg on 8 train.

Friday, Sept 6 President McKenly shot

I am sick today, had bowel trouble two days took a course of calomel today. Mr. Rany moved to Newbern. Beatrice Grishen came I worked a while on bibs. In the afternoon I met with Cemetary association at Mrs. Grishens as Mrs. Barhams house was burned. Cousin Artie Scott was there on a visit to Mrs. Barham. Albert came home on a visit to his family been gone three weeks. President McKenly shot by a Polander at Buffelow, N.Y.

Saturday, Sept 7 Bright & pleasant

After morning work Dr. foned us that a lady lecturing on temperance would come and put a rep with us. Brother Rodie came and brought Mamie and Vanlier to Mrs. Turners then to my house. Beatrice G. came. Albert & Willie came to see us. Miss Martin the lecturer came and spent the night. Iola, Willie and Beatrice went to the burnt house and to Dr. Cherries. Sunday, Sept 8 Bright and warm

We all went to SS, Mamie Clement went with us. We then took her to the train to go home. After dinner Dr. & Scott went to see Albert and Willie. I wrote a letter to Sallie and Miss Martin the temperence lecture read about the President McKenleys being shot on the 6 of this month. Iola took a nap. At 3:30 we all went to hear a temperence lecture from Miss Martin of Milan. After supper we went to the Christian Church to another lecture the house was full, a good lecture.

Monday, Sept 9 Bright & warm

Iola and Willie went to the opening of the school. Mrs. Martin left on morning train. Mrs. Pace came to ask about a divorce for Mollie. Mrs. Barham came awhile. Dr. went to the school opening & gave a talk to the school.. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Pace, Mrs. Phares & Mattie Brown. Iola staid at home & pointed and worked the flowers. After supper I studied SS lesson and read aloud.

Tuesday, Sept 10 Bright & warm

Iola and I made Lula a linen skirt. After dinner we went to Allie Steels to the sewing circle. I then went to see Mollie Redford in labor at 10:30 a boy was born to her. Dr. Cherry was her Dr. Iola went to Mattie Browns and to Mrs. Phares, came home and gathered a baskett of ocre and vegetables for dinner. At 11:30 I came home to go to bed. Beatrice went to Miss to go to school in a female at?.

Wednesday, Sept 11 Bright in morning rain in afternoon

Iola and I washed in the morning, in the afternoon I went calling to Mattie Browns, Rose Blackwoods, Mrs. Porters, Wlla White at Finis McCorkles, Allie Keneys and Mollie Radfords. After supper we all went to prayer meeting, had a good subject and Mr Grishen gave us a good talk on right living. We always enjoy his good talks on prayer meeting nights.

Thursday, Sept 12 Bright and warm

After morning work I went to see Mrs. Beech, Mrs. Oglis by Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Grishen went with me. After I came home I helped cook dinner and iron the cloaths. I was then given out and not able to do any thing on foot. Mrs. Walker is gone to Humbolt and I milked her cow. Iola went to see Mollie and Laura Roop. I am not well tonight. Beatrice & Lula Grishen came.

Friday, Sept 13 Bright & cool

President McKenley died today. Mattie Clement came to Willies to spend the day. Dr. & I took dinner at Willies. In the afternoon the cemetary association met at my house, there were 8 present. Maggie Williams came to see us. Iola caned one gallon of peaches and made one half gallon of peach preserves. I made a dresser scarf. Iola went with Beatrice to a lecture at the college. I went to see Mollie and her little babe, then went to Mrs. Walkers to milk for her. Dr. traded for a mule colt.

Saturday, Sept 14 Cloudy & rainy

Iola and I caned one gallon of peaches. I read and mended. Brother Rody took dinner with us. I gave Mrs. Harris a can of peaches. In the afternoon Iola scowred our dining room and cook rooms. Rob Pace sold all of his house hold goods today. Brother Phares wrote from McKensy saying he was having a fine meeting. Willie gathered beans for herself and us off the new vines planted at turnip sowing time. there is great distress all over the land over the death of McKinley.

Sunday, Sept 15 Bright & cool

We all went to SS. There was no preaching as brother Phares was in a meeting at McKensy. Mrs. Phares and the children came home with me. I came by to Mollie. Brother Rodie, Valier and Mattie Clement of Kenton came to my house for dinner. Iola went home with Rose Blackwood so did Willie, after dinner Mattie and Vanlier went to see Mrs. Turners daughters. Dr. went home with Dr. McConnell for dinner.

Monday, Sept 16 Cloudy & rainy

I wrote letter to Sallie and recieved one from her. I cut rags for the sewing circle. Mrs. Swink came and spent the afternoon, brought 25 cts for brother Phares salery and 25 for the quilt. Iola painted on a picture for Sallie, she went to see Mrs. Walker. Dr. sold two mowers today. I finished up a dresser scarf to night. Iola helped Scott read.

Tuesday, Sept 17 Fair and cold

After morning work I went to see Mollie then to see Willie, came home to help cook dinner, had Willies children to take dinner with us as she was sick. After dinner Laura Roop came we then went to Willies, to the sewing circle. I had a negro to come and trim trees & c. Dr. went to town to a meeting preparatory to a memorial service in respect to our president as he has just died after being shot. Dr. was chosen chairman of the convention. Iola paint awhile in the forenoon.

Wednesday, Sept 18 Clear & cold

I went to see Mollie Radford, then to town to buy quilt calico. Called to see Miss Della Whitney and sister Phares. Lulas family came and we cut a calico rapper for Lula and sewed all the afternoon. After supper Dr., Lula, Lizzie and I went to prayer meeting. Brother Phares closed his meeting at McKensy and was at prayer meeting. Iola staid with the children.

Thursday, Sept 19 Bright & cold frost this morning

We all went with Lulas folks to Willies to spend the day. Willie, Dr. & Iola went to the ME Church to the memoral service in honor of our president who was buried today McKenley. Dr. brother Phares, Brother Boon, Scoby and others made a talk on the death of our much loved president. The ME church was full. All the business houses closed business.

Friday, Sept 20 Fair and cool

Lula and her children spent last night and today with us. Brother Rodie, Vanlier and Mattie Clement took dinner with us. Dr. & Lonnie went to the country to make settlements for the store. Lula went home this afternoon. Vanlier and Mattie went to Willies to spend the night. I cut myself a dress. Willie and Iola did the stiching.

Saturday, Sept 21 Bright & cool

Iola and I worked all day to finish up my dress to wear to Kenton. Willie came , Mrs. Harvey and Miss Barker came to look at Mrs. Barhams organ, Willie had bought it and gave five dollars only. Mrs. Barham came awhile. We made arangements today to go to Kenton & Trezevant. Dr. went to town to buy a hat to wear, Iola gave him five dollars of her milk money.

Sunday, Sept 22 Bright & pleasant

Dr. and I started to Trezevant, went by the tent meeting at centor preaching by brother Haskins, had a fine sermon. Went to dinner with cousin Artie Scott, started at three and went to brother Henrys. We then went to hear brother Renols at Christian Chapel with brother Henrys family, then came back to brother Henrys and spent the night, had a pleasant time. Elicks boy died 7 years old.

Monday, Sept 23 Bright & pleasant

Dr. & I went to Zilor Hurts and took dinner had a very pleasant time with her family. Afternoon we went to Kenton to brother Rufus and spent the night. There we met with Jim Faircloths grass widow and others, found brother Rufus much better than I had expected as he has comsumption and had moved to town to live in a brick hotel.

Tuesday, Sept 24 Bright & pleasant

Dr. & I started to Trezevant this morning traveled until 12 oclock then stoped to eat dinner there. While Dr. was asleep and resting I drew the threads for a dresser scarf and wrote a letter back home. We reached Trezevant at 5 oclock found all well and glad to see us. George had been to see a lady at Huntington, I suppose courting her.

Wednesday, Sept 25 Bright & pleasant

Dr., Lizzie Blanks & I went the Christian Church to hear brother Farrer preach, took all the family at night and heard a fine sermon from Farrer again, in the afternoon I worked on a dress for Maurine a red silk that was once Iolas then made for Olie May. Iola staid at home to look after things while we were away.

Thurday, Sept 26 Bright & pleasant

In the morning I dressed a doll for Maurine of some old silk that was once a dress fo Lula Cockroft when she was 16 years old. When Maurine came to dinner she claped her little hands an said Grandma you are so good to dolly. After dinner we started to Greenfield and spent the night with Hiel McCorkle.

Friday, Sept 27 Bright & jpleasant

After we eat breakfast at the hotell at Greenfield, Dr. and I went to see cousin Tom Allens family. I had not seen him in 25 years, he was boy now a man of family and wealth. Dr., Bettie McCorkle and I then went out to see Aunt Sallie Allen who is now 86 years old and a cousin 46. After dinner we, DR., and I, started for Kenton reached there at 5:30 spent the night with brother Rufus. Cousin Bob Jiders? Laughter called to see me at brother Rufus after supper.

Saturday, Sept 28 Cloudy & rainy

I went to see Tiny Boyle in the morning, found her in bad health but so glad to see me. I then went back to the hotell to get dinner with brother Rufus. After dinner we started to Yorkville, stoped awhile to see Fannie Wheary, then to brother Joes to spend the night, found Annie and brother Joe and aunt Zura spent a pleasant night with them. It rained only a short time or rather sprinkled.

Dr. and I started from Yorkville early to see Sister Sues family as they were sick. At ten oclock we left and went to a tent meeting to hear brother Cook. We went home with Eddie McCorkle to dinner, came to Newbern in time for supper then went to hear brother Phares preach on the conversion of the jailor. We spent the night at home Iola & Scott with us.

Monday, Sept 30 Bright & warm

I cut Dr. a pare of drawers. Laura Roop, Willie and Beatrice came in to see us. Afternoon I went to see the sick Mollie Radford, Leona Blackwood and Marvin Kid. Mattier Brown went with me. I came home late and milked the cow, fed the chicks and eat supper. Iola went to stay with Leona Blackwood as she was sick. I staid and helped Scott get his lessons and DR. was in town until 8 oclock. Brother Rody came.

Isic Dickson went to Tex this morning. I went to Mrs. Arnetts and Mrs. Walkers to see the sick. Came home and cooked dinner, wrote a letter to Sallie and on to Charlie Allen. In the afternoon Iola, Willie and I went to Mrs. Grishens to meet the sewing circle. Recieved a paper saying Cousin Quincy Roach was married on the 28 of September. Dr. had a suit today as Magistratre. Iola & Willie went to see Elgin Hurt and Leona.

Wednesday, Oct 2 Bright & cool

I finished a pair of drawers for Dr. and helped Iola make two pair of pants for Scott. I cut a calico rapper for Willie, picked two bucketfs of butter beans, sent one to sister Phares and a buckett of Ocre also. Dr. went to the country to collect for the store. Beatrice Grishen came. Leona Blackwood is down with slow fevor. Iola went to see her today. Beatrice went to sit up with her to night. We all went to prayer meeting.

Iola and I washed today and cooked dinner, in the afternoon, Ada Ridings and Beatrice came. Dr. went to the country. Iola, Willie, Beatrice, Ada, Lula and Hattie all went to the milinary opening. Mr. Cockroft and Robert came and brought a baptist preacher. Dr. went to the baptist church. They spent the night. The preacher went off on train.

Iola and I ironed all this morning, in the afternoon Iola went to Mrs. Grishens. I went to the Cementary association. Allie and I then went to see Leona B., I stoped to see Mrs. Rod Lambert, Laura D. called me and I stoped a while then came home. Iola and Ada went to sit up with Leona.

Saturday, Oct 5 Bright & cool

I went to see Mrs. Walker who was sick. Came home and Iola & I did our baking for Sunday. In the afternoon I finished a hankerchiel for Sallies birthday. Beatrice and Willie came. Albert Rodgers came home on a visit. I mended and saved seed butterbeans. After supper I talked to Gorden Barham asking about his mother who was sick. Florence came on a visit.

We all went to SS. Brother Phares preached this was State mission day. The song Tennessee for Christ was sung & Mr. Billy Porter left the house. After dinner we all went to Alberts to be with him. Iola then went to see Leona B. and I went to see Mrs. Walker. Dr. to see brother Grishen. Dr., Scott and I went driving later Mrs. Williams came to tell us goodby.

Dr. and Mr. Fowlks went to Dyersburg in the buggy. Mrs. Williams left Newbern this morning. Iola and I went to see Mrs Shoemate and Mrs. Manassa Harries. I went after dinner to see Mollie Radforrd, Mrs. Goodwin, Mrs. Phares, Leona Blackwood, Hattie McConnell and Mag Finis. We made two hankerchieves to sent off for birthday presents. After supper had to go to town to attend a suit. Mada Heart came to talk to one.

I helped Iola to cut a T jackett had it partly made by dinner. After dinner we went to the sewing circle at Mattie Browns. Laura Roop sent for me and at 3 oclock a fine boy was born. Mrs. Wilson came from Obion. Mrs. Holland and daughter from Memphis came. The Anties proposed to buy a half intrest in the church. Dr. wrote up an instrument of writing for them to sign.

Iola and I washed today. In the afternoon Iola and Beatrice G. went to Dyersburg to see Lula and Mrs. Barham. Miss Della Whitney came and did some stiching for her sister. Mrs. Goodlow came to see Mrs. Harris and I. Rec a letter from Sallie and sent one to her. Dr. and I went to prayer meeting. This is Olie Mays 11th birthday.

After I finished my morning work I went to see Willie and Mrs. Walker. After getting dinner and churning I went to Mrs. Arnetts and talked to her about the sin of haiting a brother and of dividing the church as Porter was doing. I the went to see Allie Steel who was sick, came home and read awhile, then did the milking and night work. Iola & Beatrice came home at sundown. After supper Iola & Dr. went to see Leona Blackwood who is down with slow fevor. I staid with Scott.

Friday, Oct 11 Cloudy & rain

Iola and I ironed and cooked dinner. I was not well. Iola then set out rose cuttings. After dinner I went to Bob Dickeys to meet the cemetary association. They aranged to have a supper. Dr. went to the country and bought a cow on a debt, said to be a fine butter cow. I went to see sister Phares and Loane Blackwood, came home and read. I talked to Mrs. Porter on religion. We sent Sallie a birthday present of 4 hankerchiefs.

Annie McCorkle spent the morning with us, went to town, shopping in the afternoon. Iola & I cleaned the church. I went to see Laura Roop and Mrs. Pace. Annie came back and spent the night. We talked & read SS lesson. Elgier Hurt not expecting to live. Leona Blackwood some better.

This is Sallies 23rd birthday. Iola, Dr., Scott & I went to SS. Iola and Lula went by after SS to Leona. Annie went home to be with her SS class. I wrote a long letter to Sallie & one to Eddie Louise McCorkle. Mr. Oglisby came to see us in the afternoon and we looked over the church book. Albert & Willie came & sat until bedtime. Albert left on 11 train for St. Louis.

Monday, Oct 14 Bright & cool

Elgin Hurt died at 5:15 this morning. Willie went to see him. I went to see Mrs. Spencer this morning. In the afternoon I went to Mrs. Paces and to see Leona Blackwood. We sent our carpet to be wove to Mrs. Jack Hamelton that belonged to the Sewing Circle. We had our first big frost last night. Willie took Hattie Capett to stay with her. She will bord and closth her for her help in housework. Albert brought Willie two pretty black skirts from St. Louis.

Elgin Hurts funeral was preached today. School was dismissed and the business houses were closed. A very large crowd was out. I staid at home and cooked dinner mine and Willies families. Iola and Dr. went to the funeral. After dinner the sewing met here and we put in a quilt for Willie. After supper Iola and Beatrice went to spend the night with Rose. Dr. went to town on business.

Iola and I washed this morning and mended some. In the afternoon I met with the cemetary association at the store to arange about the supper.. Came by to see Miss Della and also to see Mrs. Rod Lambert and her little babe, stoped to see Laura Roop. After supper we all went to prayer meeting and Mrs. Harris was baptised by brother Phares.

Iola & I ironed and cooked dinner. In the afternoon Iola went to town to have her hat trimed. I went to see Mrs. Walker. Willies folks and a host of others went to the big show at Dyersburg. Said to be 5000 people at the show. Willie and others came home after dark. I sent them supper. Dr. recieved a birthday gift from Sallie of a nice tie and a nice pair of suspenders.

Friday, Oct 18 Bright and cold

I baked a chicken & a pone of lighbread for the cemetary supper. In the afternoon I went to help the ladys prepair the supper for the night. This was Iolas birthday 26 years old today. Sallie sent her a white easel to hold a picture and Willie gave her four pair of hoes. I staid with the ladies until until all were through. Iola and Scott staid at home.

I went to town to help was the dishes and send all home. I bought the Jelly that was left for 10cts. Swinler wrote a ugly piece about Dr. McCorkle in the Newbern paper which is giving him trouble. Swinler wants to be Mayor and is 2nd?. This is his plan to rundown and ridicule others that might be. Beatrice G. came in. Iola scowered the kitchen & dining room. Mrs. Grishen and Allie Steel came in the afternoon.

We all went to SS. Brother Phares preached a fine sermon, two took membership. In the afternoon I went to see Mrs. Pace and Laura Roop. Iola went to see Esther and Leona. Willies family took diner with Cally Capell. The Deacons & Elders met to decide who we whould have to preach for us another year. We all went to preaching again at night. had a good crowd.

Monday, Oct 21 Bright & pleasant

After morning Iola and Willie went to town to buy hats. Iola brought down a cloak for us to see. Dr. resigned as to the race for Mayor of Newbern as Mr. Swinler treated him so bad in lying on him. After dinner I finished a letter to Sallie and then went to see Mrs. Paten and then to Mrs Grishens to see Clide Barham who fell from a horse and was badly hurt. I then cam by to see Mrs. Walker who is still sick with fevor. There is cases of scarlet fevor in town.

Tuesday, Oct 22 Brigh & pleasant

Iola went to Mrs Goodwin and to Laure Roops. I staid and cooked dinner. In the afternoon the sewing circle met with us, there were 16 ladys here. Clide Barham is at Mrs. Grishens with a very sore arm caused from a fall from a horse, two Dr’s. to see her today, Cole & Cherry. Mag & Ella came to the quilting. Dr. wrote on an answer to Mr. Swinlers piece tonight.

Wednesday, Oct 23 Bright & pleasant

Iola & I washed and cooked dinner in the morning. In the afternoon Iola went to the school room to see how Scott was getting along, then went to see Mrs. Phares and Sons?, then to see Clide Barham at Mrs. Grishens. I read until late then went to see Clide. Annie Beard has a boy born today. Beatrice Grishen came today. Willie spent the afternoon in school with her children. Dr. sold a wagon and surry today.

Thursday, Oct 24 Cloudy

Iola and I went to ironing at 9 oclock and finished in time fo cook dinner. In the afternoon Iola went to Willies. I wrote a letter to brother Henry and mended the rest of the afternoon. Dr took his reply to the printing office today. Editor said it was good. Mr. Glass is good friend of ours. I give him items for his paper and he lets me have the paper free. Last night we all went to prayer meeting, there were 43 out and a good time.

Friday, Oct 25 Bright & pleasant

I went to Willies and helped her on Marys dress, came home to help cook dinner and drew a table cover. In the afternoon I went to Mrs. Prichards and then to the meeting of cemetary association. Tresuer reported 38 dollars collected at the supper. I then went to town and bought Scott some shoes and Iola a skirt, came by and bought goods for the sewing circle to work on. Then I stoped to see Mrs. Porter at Mrs. Shoemates. Came home and read. Drs. reply to Mr. Swinler in the Newbern paper. I then read the papers.

Saturday, Oct 26 Bright & cool

Iola, Scott and Allie Steel went to Dyersburg in a buggy. I read awhile, then cooked dinner. Afte dinner I washed off the cookroom floor. I went to see Mrs. Goodwon. Mrs Wilson came after me to go to see about Laura Roops baby they had given too much paregoric. I came home, milked the cows and by this time Iola came from Dyersburg. Clide Barhams is some better today. Iola reports Mrs. Barham better.

Sunday, Oct 27 Bright and pleasant

We sll went to SS. Dr. and I went to the baptist church to hear George Reeves of Tex. preach. Mrs. Phares, Otis and Iola took diner with Willie. I went to see Clide, then Dr. and I drove out to see brother Rodie, came home & Willie took Mrs. Phares out driving. Dr. set next Sunday to elect a preacher for next year. Some want one and some another. Brother Rodies girls have much company, boys & girls.

Monday, Oct 28 Bright & warm

Iola and I went over to look at Pattie Shoemates weding cloaths. I came home and wrote a letter to Sallie. Iola went to see Clyde Barham at Mrs. Grishen. Beatrice came to see us. Ada and Lula came. I went to Mrs. Goodrons. Prof. Lowry came after a bedstead he bourht of Mrs. Barhams, but did not pay for it. Prof moved into Rose Blackwoods house.

Tuesday, Oct 29 Bright & warm

Iola ans I washed our cloaths this morning. In the afternoon the sewing circle met here. Iola went to help decorate the church for the weding. Mrs. Holt came to buy a carpet from the circle. Mrs. & Miss Colwell came for the first time. She invited the circle to came and meet with her. Iola and Willie went over to see the decorations at the house. Mattie & Mr. Brown came to sit until bed time.

Wednesday, Oct 30 Bright & warm

Iola & I gathered nice flowers to decorate Mrs. Shoemates house for the marriage. In the afternoon Iola painted and I worked on drawn work, I went to see Mrs. Goodroom who was sick. At night we all went to see Pattie Shoemate married at he CP Church to Mr. Newman of Miss. Rev. Boon performed the serimony. Pattie was dressed beautifully and her fathers house and the church were beautifully decorated.

Iola and I ironed was through in time to cook dinner. Annie McCorkle took dinner with us. In the afternoon Mrs. Cornell and Rose Blackwood came, later Miss Masura Frasier came. I worked on drawn work and Iola on the outline for the circle. Dr. went to town after supper. Iola helped Scott and I wrote a letter to Beatrice Cockroft. Algin Mason and Miss Airs were married today. Both very young.

Friday, Nov 1 Bright & pleasant

Iola painted all day. I worked on table cover. In the afternoon I went to Mrs. Arnetts and Mrs. Paces. Swinler wrote another ugly piece about Dr., we are very much worried over the way he is doing. Dr.’s friends wants him to skin him in another piece, I am not willing for him to notice him again.

Saturday, Nov 2 Bright and Pleasant

Iola had a sick headache all day, I had all the work to do. Beatrice G. came. Miss Masura Fraizer spent the day with us and cut out a skirt for Eula. In the afternoon I scowered, then helped on Lulas skirt. Miss Masura and I went to to Mrs Shoemates to see Paties presents. There were a great many fine ones. Brother Rodie spent the night with us and went to the baptist church. I was too tired.

Sunday, Nov 3 Rained & turning cold

Ther first ice came last night. We all went to SS & I staid to hear brother Phares preach, after preaching a vote was cast as to who should preach. Brother Phares was chosen. Albert has all of us to take dinner with him as he is at home so seldom. We then came home at four and read until bed time. Scott is learning fast at school. We gave way for the Baptist meeting.

Monday, Nov 4 Clear & cold

Iola and I put in a quilt and cooked dinner. Beatrice G. came. After dinner we quilted all the afternoon. Mollie Pace came to get Iola to go with her to see sister Phares. Dr. brought the town book home to see after another answer to Swinler. Iola and I quilted after supper awhile. Willie bought Iola a waist from Grishens.

Lizzie(Mrs. McCorkle) went to Lulas & walked from the depot to Lulas. Aunt Roury was here today. Iola & Lizzie went to Sewing Circle at sister Coldwells. Bought 2 bushets corn & sack of bran today. The corn of Jno Gregory & bran from store. Iola & I washed today.

Lizzie still at Dyersburg. Iola had some headache. Maggie stayed home, not well. Billy horse jumped into the garden, then into the street. Lizzie still at Lulas, dug my potatoes, had about 10 bushets, nice potatoes. Maggie took medicum is better. I & Iola took dinner with Willie. Bmp Enoch & Nate Rodgers had trial before me. Cow failed to come home.(End of Dr. McCorkle’s effort). I spent the morning with Mrs. Barham at Dyersburg found her up and sewing. In the afternoon I helped Lula sew again.

I had a spell of vertigo at Lulas. The second time I over did. I helped Lula sew all day, we finished Lizzies dress and Beatrices. Mrs. Sanie Williams came to see us. L.M. Cotten was very druck and said he would kill Harry Cotten. The Sherrif took the gun away from him. The family were badly excited and come to Lulas to fone Harry not to come home.

Saturday, Nov 9 Cloudy & cool

This is Scotts sixth birthday. I came home from Dyersburg. Lula gave Scott an overcoat for a birthday present, and we bought him a suit at Rosenbloom, he is proud of them. I gathered one half gallon of dry butter beans. Mattie Arnett came, Willie and children came. Iola dug up cannon roots to be dried. I wrote and read until bed time. Sold six bibs to Mrs. Holland.

Sunday, Nov 10 Bright & pleasant

We all went to SS. Dr. and I went to the MEC to hear brother King preach. Rose Blackwood came home with Iola to dinner. In the afternoon Iola and Rose went to see Mrs. Phares. Dr. and I went to see Comp Arnett as he was sick. Mr. & Mrs. Harris went to preaching at night & we kept the babe for her. I wrote a letter to Iola Blanks and Maurine Blanks at Trezevant. Willie and her children came, then took a ride.

Monday, Nov 11 Bright & pleasant

Iola and I cut a dressing sack for Laura roop. I have a slight headache today. Scott had a touch of croup and staid from school. Dr. wrote another letter in answer to Mr. Swinler. We worked until bedtime. Beatrice & Willie came. Mrs. Harris went to Mrs. Grishens and Ridings. Rebecca Tigrett bay was born today. Aunt Zura came. Rained after night.

Tuesday, Nov 12 Bright & cold

We finished Laura Roops dressing sacks and Iola carried them to her. Laura took her babe to Obion for the first time today. After dinner Iola, Willie and I went to Mrs. Williams to the sewing circle. I stoped to see Bob Dickery on my way home, he has a bad carbuncle. After supper Iola & I went to see Comp Arnett who was down with fevor. Frank Brown and Whit Wilson came to sit with up with Comp from Odd Fellows.

Wednesday, Nov 13 Bright & cool

Iola and I quilted until eleven, then cooked dinner and washed. Walter McCorkle took dinner with us. Beatrice Grishen came. Miss Masura also came. Iola and Willie went to town to see the bridal partie leave Annie Binkly and Beasley married at 3:30 and went direct to his home. Walter and Miss Masura took supper, then we all went to prayer meeting. I then wrote an order for the ladys home Journal for some ladys. Ate apples and read.

Thursday, Nov 14 Bright & cool

Iola and I finished a quilt and ironed our cloaths. Dr. went to the country to make settlement. I went to see Otis Phares, Mollie Hamelton was there Ada and Beatrice came. Walter & Aunt Zura went to Yorkville. I had a headache today. I wrote a letter to Sallie. Iola and Beatrice cominced a subscription for preaching another year, several subscribed, but some did ?.

Friday, Nov 15 Bright & cool

I went to Dyersburg on the early morning train to meet an Aunt whom I had not seen in 28 years, M.E. Conference in session and I went to the church to meet her. Brother Bob Brasfield and wife, Aunt Lou went to Lulas and took dinner. I then staid with Lula and cousin Emma Fowler came and staid all eve.

Saturday, Nov 16 Clear and very cold & ice

I went to Conference with Aunt Lou came to Lulas for dinner. We had turkey, polk & turnips, cranberries & c. & c. After dinner I went to Mrs. Barhams and spent awhile, Lula and children put down a carpet. I went to the train to come home and left my pocketbook so I had to borrow money from Nona Paine to come home on. I stoped to buy gloves from Grishens.

Sunday, Nov 17 Bright & cold

We all went to SS. Brother Phares preached a good sermon. I sat awhile with Mrs. Harris. Iola & Willie went to Mrs. Grishens. I read and suffered with gravel?. Dr. recieved literature from our old teacher we had in 1859 with his picture, a fine old man, J.W. Dickerson. We all went after supper to hear brother Phares and the house was full and a good sermon was preached.

Monday, Nov 18 Cold & rain

After morning work, Iola and I cut a calico rapper and sewed on it almost finished it. Dr. had some onions planted. News came that brother Joe was very sick with pneumonia. Robert came from Nashville took our horse and went out to see him. I went to see Mrs. Pace and Mollie worked button holes on Iolas rapper. Beatrice Grishen came to see us. Iola and Mrs. Harris drew off bibs to be worked.

Tuesday, Nov 19 Bright and cool

Some rain last night. We finished Iolas dress and cut one for myself. In the afternoon we went to Mrs.Grishens to meet with the sewing circle, there were 15 present and a good time making bibs to sell and discussing how to keep our preacher with us. This was election day and many were disappointed. Dr. Williams boy died and I hear was buried.

Wednesday, Nov 20 Bright & cool

I finished my rapper and cut one for Willie. Dr. was called to Yorkville to see brother Joe who was very sick with pneumonia. Iola went with him. Beatrice and Lula Grishen came to see us. Mrs. Pace came awhile in the morning . Mrs. Harris and I went to prayer meeting, after prayer meeting I went to Willies and spent the night. I wrote Sallie a letter and Scott wrote his first letter to Gladys and put in mine.

Thursday, Nov 21 Bright & cool

I came from Willies and stoped to see Thelmer Spencer, milked and fed made my fire then cut a dress for Mrs. Phares. Iola & Dr. returned from Yorkville & reported brother Joe no better. Iola & Mrs. Harris helped to make the dress. Lula Grishen came awhile. Allie Steel came in the afternoon. Mollie Pace came a short while. I cut a dress for Willie and helped her to make it.

Friday, Nov 22 Rained all day

I worked on Mrs. Phares dress the most of the day. Mrs. Shoemate sent us some fresh sausage. This was a very disagreeable day rain and cold. Iola went to Mrs. Phares to take the dress we made for her. Willie came and I helped her sew in the afternoon. I read the state gazett and christian guide. After supper Iola & I trimmed new quilt. I suffered with pain in right lung in the night.

Saturday, Nov 23 Cloudy and rainy cool

I firest read then cut a rapper for Iola. Rec word that brother Joe was worse. Iola & Dr. went to him. I staid. Beatrice Grishen came to show me Christmas program. I wrote to Sallie telling of brother Joe sickness. Brother Phares went to Gleason to preach. Otis Phares very sick. I will spend the night with Willie after feeding & milking.

Sunday, Nov 24 Bright & pleasant

Dr. and Iola spend the day at Yorkville with bro Joe as he was very sick. Scott & I spent the night with Willie and we all went to SS. We took dinner with Willie. I then went to see Mrs. Pace. Dr. and Iola returned and reported Joe better. After supper Dr. and Iola went to see Otis Phares. I staid at home with Scott to help him learn his lesson and write a letter to brother Henry.

Monday, Nov 25 Bright & cool

Mrs. Pace came to hear from brother Joe. Iola & I worked on her calico dress. In the afternoon Iola and Willie went to town, bought Scott a new suit of cloaths & c. Willies barn and stable burned and a large crowd gathered to see the fire. After supper Iola and I went to Mrs. Spencers & Mrs. Arnetts. Dr. & Scott staid at home. Mr. Hanys daughter and Frank Johnson married today.

Tuesday, Nov 26 Bright and pleasant

Mr. Grishen & Mr. Ridings killed hogs today. Iola & I washed in the morning after dinner we went to the sewing circle. I then went to see Mrs. Hamels sick boy. After supper Mrs. Ridings, Ada, Lula and Beatrice Grishen came to see us. Took some bibs for bro Phares to take to Dyersburg to Mrs. Barham. Brother Phares went to look for a house to live in.

Wednesday, Nov 27 Bright and cool

Iola and I ironed this morning. Lula and her babe came up on 9:30 train. I helped her make her babe a dress in the afternoon and helped Iola finished a new rapper. After supper we all went to prayer meeting. Lula staid with the children. Our girls went to the CP Church to practice for the Thanksgiving service. Dr. went to the train to meet Sallie a very great surprise to all.

Thursday, Nov 28 Bright & cool

This was national thanksgiving day. Brother Phares preached the thanksgiving sermon at the C.P. Church. All of our children and part of the grandchildren were here. Sallie, Iola & Dr. went to the service. Brother Phares and family took dinner with us. In the afternoon Lula & Beatrice came to see Sallie. Mr. Cockroft & family spent the night and we sat up until eleven talking of Uncle Rodes Herndon dying and leaving a big estate. We want Mr. C to attend to it for us.

Friday, Nov 29 Bright & pleasant

Cockroft family all went home. Sallie helped Iola to cut the nice she sent from Tex, they both worked on it and I worked button hols for Gladys two aprons. Mr. Swinler wrote another piece against Dr. McCorkle in the Newbern paper all full of lyes. After supper we went to Willies. Sallie spent the night we came home and had a good nights rest. Ella White and husband seperated. Mr. Brandaw & wife seperated.

Saturday, Nov 30 Bright & pleasant

Iola and I spent the morning cleaning. Sallie cme home & helped on Iolas waist. In the afternoon Iola, Sallie & Willie went to town and calling. Estell Brown came to see Sallie but found her gone to her house. Mrs Glass called to see us. I kept Gladys and cooked supper. I wrote a letter to Iola Blanks and asked them to come to see Sally. Iola & Sallie went to see 10 nights in a bar room to night. I kept the child.

Sunday, Dec 1 Bright & pleasant

We all went to Sunday School and carried Sallies baby Gladys. Brother Phares preached a fine sermon and we all heard him but Iola she staid with Iolas(Sallies) babe. Sallie took dinner with Willie and came back home to be with her papa. Later in the afternoon Iola & Sallie went see Mrs. Pace. We went at night to hear brother Phares on obedience. Albert was at home and attended church.

Monday, Dec 2 Rain & cold

Sallie cut and fit a waist for Iola, we all helped to make it. Sallie went to Dyersburg to spend a few days with Lula C. Willie came and spent the afternoon. Another election was ordered for Mayor & Alderman in Newbern. The one just had was illegal. A great fight is made against Swinler. We are all in fine health. Swinler has written some very ugly pieces in the paper about Dr. McCorkle, he is jellous of Dr. good name and wants to be Mayor.

Tuesday, Dec 3 Clear & cool

I finished up Iolas waist and sat awhile. Sallie still in Dyersburg. We talked to her over the fone. Willie, Iolas & I went to Mrs. Goodrums to meet with the sewing circle. After we ajourned I went to see Mrs. Phares, came home and worked on on after supper the circle work. Dr. went to town. Scott wrote his lesson then went to bed. Brother Brown, Editor of the Christian Guide, came and tride to get us to take his book 20 Century of Christian Church, Bro Phares came too.

Wednesday, Dec 4 Bright & cold

A big fire broke out in the Gilmore house this morning at eigth oclock. Sallie still in Dyersburg. I foned to her of the fire. I worked on a table cover and laundry bags. We all went to prayer meeting Brother Phares gave us a good talk on giving all to Christ, our time and talent. We all regret to give up our preacher he is such a help in our prayer meeting.

Thursday, Dec 5 Snow all day

Iola painted all day on a water color painting to give to Willie for a birthday present. I mended some, worked laundry bag and helped Willie sew. Allie Steel, Lula & Beatrice came. Walter McCorkle came from Yorkville and spent the night with us. I read the Dyersburg State Gazett then helped Iola on Scott a waist. Walter took dinner. Walter talked to Sallie at Dyersburg over the fone telling her he had come to see her.

Friday, Dec 6 Cloudy & cold

Sallie came from Dyersburg on early train. Iola went down to meet her. Walter came up to see her and took dinner then went home to Yorkville. I read the most of the morning then cooked dinner. this is Willies birthday. Willie & I went to Dr. Sherrels to meet with Cemetery association, drove Dr’s. new horse. Mattie Romine came to see Sallie so did brother Rodie. Sallie, Iola & Willie took a buggy ride. After supper Mr. Reeves came to our great surprise from Sherman Tex.

Saturday, Dec 7 Cloudy & rainy

I mend Gladys cloaths & worked on Scotts waist, Sallie and Mr. Reeves went to Willies, came back fo dinner. Brother & sister Phares came to us in the afternoon. I then went to see Kitty Arnett awhile who was sick. After supper I read and sturded SS lesson. Sallie, Mr. Reeves with us, all well. took our bath and retired for a pleasant night rest.

Sunday, Dec 8 Cloudy & rainy

Iola, Scott, Dr. and I all went to SS. Sallie and Mr. Reeves staid to get ready to go to ME church to preaching. All went to church but myself and children. I cooked dinner, Willies folks took dinner with Edger and Sallie at our house. Marshall & Callies girl was born at 4:20 this afternoon. We all poped corn and eat pecans in the afternoon.

Monday, Dec 9 Snow and cold rain

We all took dinner with Willie. After dinner Sallie, Edger & Iola went to Dyersburg to spend the night with Lulas family. I staid with Scott and Dr. went to town to work in the store. Mattie Brown came to see Sallie and babe. I went to see Kittie Arnett who was sufering from a swolen leg. Dr. Cherry visiting her everyday. Mary carried her some nice dinner.

Tueaday, Dec 10 Bright & cool

I finished up morning work and worked on laundry bag, then cooked dinner. Mr. Reeves, Sallie and Iola returned from Dyersburg. In the afternoon I went to Mrs. Swinks to meet with the Sewing Circle. Sallie & Iola went out calling and called on 7 families. After supper Mag McCorkle and Mada came, later they all went to Mr. Grishens on a visit.

Wednesday, Dec 11 Bright & cool

I went to see Kittie Arnett as she was sufering with a rising. Iola & Sallie staid at home and in the afternoon Sallie, Iola & Willie went calling on Mattie Romine, Mrs. Parkers folks & did some trading. Several called, Katie Caufthen, Annie McCorkle and Mattie Brown. Mrs. Harris and I went to prayer meeting. Dr. and Iola staid with Sallie & Edger. I sent dinner to Kittie Arnett, cut a pair of drawers for Sallie. Mrs. Smith called.

Thursday, Dec 12 Cloudy & cool

I sewed fro Sallie and made a dress for Gladys doll. Sindy cooked dinner for us. Annie spent the day. We filled a lunch basket for Sallie & Edger and gave them their Christmas presents. Edger & Sallie bourht Dr. and I a nice rocking chair. At four oclock Edger & Sallie went to the train to leave for Tex. Iola & Willie, Dr. and the little children all went to the train. I went to see Mrs. Pace for a short time. Mrs. Phares & Beatrice called.

Frideay, Dec 13 Cloudy & windy warm all day at snow & rain

Iola and I ironed all morning. Beatrice cam in the afternoon. Iola went to see Laura Roop. It was too warm for much fire. At sundown it began to turn cold and snow fell three inches.

Saturday, Dec 14 Snowed all morning very cold

I have been good all day. Have not been mad, said no bad workds & did not have a single fight. The Dr. staid at home all day & wrote letters. Therometer was down to 20 degrees. Scott went to Willies in the snow. My cold hurts me. Bought bottle Syrup pine tar for my cough. bought coffee, crackers, stamps, crackers. Iola taught Scott his lesson & speech. Lula telephoned that Thelma had very sore mouth. Asked wht to do for it. Snowed 6 inches this morning. My cold hurts me today. The Dr. complains fo his back, Iola of her head, Scott his mouth. Ate supper in our setting room on the circle table. the Dr. ate a cup of coffee and a cold bisquit, I ate meat and bread, Iola are meat & bread & molasses, Scott ate molasses butter crackers & water. I made a cover for the horse. Dr. wrote letter to J.H. Dickerson. (This report is in Dr. McCorkle’s hand writing.)

Sunday, Dec 15 Cloudy and cold snow on the ground

Iola was too sick to go to SS. Dr., Scott & I went . Brother Phares preached there was a very small crowd out as it very very cold and a heavy snow on the ground. We begin to have two meals per day. Mr. Scoby married the widow Ellis this afternoon. Dr. and I went to preaching at nigth although the weather was very cold. Iola still sick.

Monday, Dec 16 Snow and very cold

Iola and I cut two dresses today one for a negro and one for Mattie Brown. Iola went to Matties to see about making the dress. I cut a dressing sack for Iola also. We worked all day on the dresses. Beatrcie Grishen came to order a bill of groceries. Willie and Rose went to town to collect money for the Christmas tree, collected 12 dollars.

Tuesday, Dec 17 Snow & cloudy very cold

Iola and I very busy sewing. This a very cold day. Recieved Iola Blanks grade in Trezevant school, a very good grade indeed. too cold to go to the sewing circle. We sewed hard on two rappers and a dressing sack. Mattie Brown and Bessie Goodloe came and sat until bed time. Dr. went to the store to help sell groceries. recieved a letter from Louise McCorkle saying she was coming to spend the Christmas.

Wednesday, Dec 18 Bright but very cold some snow

We worked on the rappers, very busy, have but one warm meal as it was so vey cold, below zero for two days in some places. Somethings being bought for the Christmas tree today. We recieved card to Gus Dunivant marriage to a lady at Decaterville, Tenn. Recieved a letter from Sallie, returned all OK.

Monday, Dec 23 Bright & pleasant

I was too sick to go to the sewing circle. Iola & Beatrice went. Mr. Barker died this morning of pneumonia. The Christmas tree was put on this morning by Albert and bro Dunn. Louise went to her aunt Mags to take dinner, spent the night with us. Cicero came & spent the day and night with us. Mrs.Harris sisters came. Mrs. Harris dressed a doll for Eula Phares. I mended in the morning. Sindy & Iola washed in the morning.

Tuesday, Dec 24 Bright & cool

I was too sick to be up very early. Cicero went to town bought us all a Christmas present then went home to help his mother in a Christmas tree. Several at church putting on presents. I went to the tree in spite of my bad feelings. My SS gave me a nice plate for a Christmas present. Iola gave me a facinater, Albert a set of dining room chairs. Sallie two rockers. The tree & prograhm was a perfect success. Mrs. Lowry reciled for us which was very fine.

Wednesday, Dec 25 I feel some better cloudy & cool

I still have a bad cold. We will all go to Willies to take turkey dinner. Eddie will go with us. Mrs. Lowrey called on Willie then on Iola. We had a pleasant day at Willies and a good dinner. Mr. & Mrs. Capell was there. brother Phares brought us a good Christmas supper. We all went to prayer meeting. Iola, Willie, Albert, Eddie & Ludith wen to the CP Church most partied at Maxwell house. Mrs. Dr. Harris died aat 8 oclock PM. Dr. and I kept Wiilie children for her to go to partie. I feel some better.

Thursday, Dec 26 Cloudy & cool

I went with Mrs. Grishen to see Mrs. Harris a corpse, came home and ironed until three. Iola went with the girls to the funeral of Mrs. Harris, then she went to see Mrs. Phares. I went to see Mrs. Pace. There was an opera in town, Eddie and her boe went. Albert is to leave tonight. I am some better of my cough and cold. Eddie took dinner with Billy McCorkle. I talked to Lula over the fone about Christmas & c. presents.

Friday Dec 27 Cloudy & cool fair in afternoon

Eddie went with Lula, Beatrice & Ada to Mattie Donnells to dinner. Iola and I staid at home and sewed. In the afternoon, Mrs. Allie Steel, Esther Inman, Mrs. Grishen, Mrs. Pit, Mrs. grason, Mrs. Phares, Mrs. Lettie Beech & Willie all called at one time. Later in the afternoon, brother Phares came. Mr. & Mrs. Harris. Eddie went to Willies to spend the night. Iola cut a pair of pants for Scott and I helped her to make them. Dr. went back to town after supper, bought and shot a sky rocket for Scott. I am feeling some better to night my cold all most well today.

Saturday, Dec 28 Cloudy & cool

Iola and I finished ironing and sewed some. Brother Rody took dinner with us. Eddie took dinner with Lula Grishen. Albert spent Christmas at home then left Thursday night for his work in St. Louis. Mrs. Walker came to see me this afternoon. Iola went to see Kittie Arnett who is sufering with a sore leg. Eddie went to see Mrs. Pace and Mollie talked of Will Radford all the time. Mrs. Harris invited company and was troubled over not having things to eat. I decided to give her a chicken as a deed of charity.

Sunday, Dec 29 Cloudy & cool snow at night

Dr. & Scott went to Yorkville. I went to SS and found the church in a litter from Christmas tree. George McConnell, Mr. Grishen & Mr. Goodloe were cleaning the house. Iola staid to help Dr. off, then came to hear brother Phares preach. Iola and I read the most of the afternoon. Mrs. Goodrum came in to see us. Iola and I went to see Kittie Arnett then we went to preaching. brother Brown preached. Iola and I took supper with Mrs. Harris, she had a good supper. Mr. Spencer went to St. Louis on business tonight. Ludith will stay with Mrs. Spencer at night. Dr. lanced Killies leg again today.

Monday, Dec 30 Bright & cool

Dr. & Scott still in York. Iola and I stay at home to attend to stock & c. I made boiled custard & dressed a turkey. I went to Mrs. Spencers in the afternoon and worked on a laundry bag. Iola went to Willies and help put a matting carpet down. I the went to Mrs. Paces awhile. Lonnie Pace after stealing his cousins money Saturday, married on Sunday. Leone Blackwood came for the first time since a bad spell of fevor. Dr. foned from Yorkville he could not come home until Wednesday. Willie came awhile. Rec a letter from Sallie today.

Tuesday, Dec 31 Bright & pleasant

I put on a turkey to cook early. Neola & Mrs. Bob Dickey called. Several girls took dinner with us, Lura Donnell, Beatrice & Lula Grishen, Eddie McCorkle & Ada Ridings. The circle met with us and we made a rag carpet for brother Phares at night. Iola, Annie & Willie went to a lecture at the Opera. Dr. & Scott came from Yorkville. Willies children staid with us while she was at the lecture. Annie McCorkle spent the night. Mattie Clement was married at Kenton today to a Mr. Garrett. Emett Harris came.
