grgrandfather, Benjimon Oslin Carlton and his
cousin, John Pike Carlton
Two cousins going off to war, they
were their mother's
pride and joy
From Union City Tennessee, they marched away proud as
could be
With love of country they did pray, as they knelt down
in Rebel gray
Two Carlton cousins, Ben and John filled with honor in
the Springtime sun
They marched in glory and did their best for General
Nathan B. Forest
Ben got a letter from his Mom at home, she said your
father Crowfords gone
Ben had no time for tears in Jackson, in Mississippi he
faced hard action
Both cousins came home to Gibson County
They lived many years without the bounty
Of a war of rebellion not won, but they were Gibson's
finest sons
