Goodspeed's History of Dyer County, Tennessee, 1887
This page preserves the Dyer County section of Goodspeed's History of Tennessee, published by the Goodspeed Publishing Company of Nashville and Chicago across 1886 and 1887. The full series ultimately covered all eighty-two counties recorded in that project, with Dyer County's entry alone running to hundreds of biographical sketches within the county's chapter.
Goodspeed organized the work in three parts: a general, illustrated history of Tennessee as a whole; individual histories for each county; and biographical sketches of notable residents within those counties. The Dyer County material provides a detailed look at the county's geography, economy, and development as they stood roughly six decades after the county's 1823 founding.
Because of its scope and the number of family names it documents, the Dyer County Goodspeed history remains one of the most consulted single sources in this archive's Dyer County collection, alongside the family index and newspaper archive covered on their own pages.
