Civil War Soldiers of Carroll County, Tennessee — Confederate and Union Units

The first company raised in the county was known as the Carroll Invincibles, commanded by Captain E. P. Hall. Three companies from Carroll County were mustered into the 22nd Tennessee Confederate Infantry at Trenton, Tennessee, in June 1861. Companies C and H of the 55th Tennessee Confederate Infantry joined their regiment at the same location in October 1861.

Union recruitment followed a different timeline, shaped by the war's shifting military control of West Tennessee. After the fall of Fort Donelson placed the region in Federal hands, five companies of Carroll County men were mustered into the 7th Tennessee Cavalry in November 1862. That regiment, assembled on August 28, 1862, under Colonel Isaac Roberts Hawkins, served a three-year term and lost 337 men over the course of its service.
