The puzzlement is that the photo is dated to about 1860 but Gem photography did
not become popular until later. I am wondering if A. Brown made copies of the
original as several of the children have this one. The man in the picture was
killed in the Civil War in Dec. 1861 and he lived in Missouri and never left
Missouri while in the service. His son joined the war in January, one month
later and was on campaigns that went to Memphis and further south.
William wants to know when this
photographer was in business in Memphis.

I've "rescued" and old photograph of Elizabeth TURNER THOMPSON which was taken at the Moyston's Star Gallery in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to her name some has written "Mom's Aunt Elizabeth" on the back of the photograph. I believe that the photograph was taken in the 1860's or 1870's and that Elizabeth was probably in her 30's at the time it was taken.
I'm hoping to locate someone from Elizabeth's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Contact
