Emma Ann Williams Stevens,
Memphian who died in Chattanooga, TN Dec. 1, 1921
STEVENS FUNERAL TODAY
Services Over Former Memphis Woman Will Be Held
This Afternoon
Mrs. Emma A. Stevens, wife of J. W. Stevens, local
business man, a former
resident of Memphis for many years, died at the residence
of her daughter,
Mrs. R. B. Pirtle, in Chattanooga, Tenn., Thursday
afternoon, following an illness
of several years. Mrs. Stevens had been living with her
daughter for the past
seven years, because it was hoped that the climate there
would greatly benefit
her health. Her death, while a shock to her relatives and
many friends in
Memphis, was not altogether unexpected.
Her husband, although remaining in Memphis because of
his business interests,
made frequent trips to Chattanooga to see Mrs. Stevens, and
was with her when
she died. In addition to her husband she is survived by
four daughters,
Mrs. R. B. Pirtle, of Chattanooga, and Mrs. W. S. Randolph,
Mrs. E. J. Bettis and
Mrs. T. G. Tucker, of Memphis. She is also survived by two
sisters and one
brother, also of Memphis, P. H. and D. R. Williams and Mrs.
J. T. Alberts.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Adams,
will be held at the
residence of her nephew, Dave Wells, 660 North Fifth
Street, this afternoon at
2:30 o'clock. Friends are invited. Interment will be in
Forest Hill Cemetery.
J. J. Collins, undertaker, has charge of the arrangements.
