Lifetime Member of Bricklayers Dies
William Sidney Randolph, widely known brick mason and
one of four members
of Bricklayers's Union No. 1 of Tennessee to have been
awarded a gold
card, which is an honorary life membership in the union,
died at 2:30 a.m.
today at his home, 986 N. Decatur. Mr. Randolph had been
in failing health
about three years and had been confined to his bed about
three months. He
was 71.
Born in the mountain country near Chattanooga, he came
to Memphis
when a small child. He had been a member of the
Bricklayers Union about
55 years and was at one time, assistant city building
inspector in Memphis,
and at the time of his retirement about four years ago had
been employed by
the City Engineering Department for many years.
He and his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Stevens Randolph, had
been married 51
years and had nine children, eight of whom survive.
Respected and popular
in trade circles for his skill and industry, he was also
known for this devotion to
his family.
He leaves his wife, two sons, M-Sgt. James P. Randolph,
stationed in
Denver, Col., and Pfc. Richard G. Randolph at Guam, six
daughters, Mrs.
George W. Sammons, Mrs. W. A. Seymour, Mrs. A. W. Minardi,
and Miss
Glenna Randolph, all of Memphis; Mrs. Hubbard Hooker, St.
Louis, Mo, and
Mrs. W. F. Hunt, Mountain Pine, Ark; his sister, Mrs.
Josephine Spacey, Memphis;
eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Another
son, William S.
Randolph, preceded him in death.
