Laura Alice “Dollie” Taylor nee Stephenson (b. Sept. 1, 1870 , Alamo , Tenn ; d. Jan. 19, 1955 , Memphis , Tenn. )

   MRS. DAVE TAYLOR - Lifelong West Tennessean To Be Buried Today - Services for Mrs. Dave Taylor, lifelong West Tennessean who died here yesterday at the age of 84, will be held at 10 this morning at the Baptist Church in Friendship, Tenn.   Burial will be at the Pond Creek Cemetery there, with Friendship Funeral Home in charge.  Mrs. Taylor died at 695 Avalon, where she made her home with two of her daughters, Mrs. Katie Edwards and Mrs. I.A. Cates.  She had been seriously ill two months.  Mrs. Taylor was born in Crockett County , Tenn. , and lived there until she moved to Memphis 10 years ago.  Her husband, who died 23 years ago, was a farmer.  She was a member of the Baptist Church .  Mrs. Taylor also leaves another daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Ball of Friendship; a brother, Walter Taylor, also of Friendship; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

 

Katie (Stephenson) Edwards (b. April 9, 1897 , Crockett Co., Tenn. ; d. Oct. 30, 1960 , Memphis , Tenn. )

Services for Mrs. Katie S. Edwards of 695 Avalon, who died Sunday night at Baptist Hospital after a brief illness, will be held at 10 a.m. today at National Funeral Home. Burial will be in Friendship, Tenn. Mrs. Edwards, who was 63, came to Memphis 16 years ago from Crockett County , Tenn.

   Services for William N. Stephenson, retired food salesman who died at 2:20 yesterday morning at his home, 788 North Merton, will be held at 2 tomorrow afternoon at National Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood.
   Mr. Stephenson was 63. He retired a year ago after traveling the Memphis area 40 years for the Shefford Cheese Co. of Green Bay, Wis., and Preserves, Ind., of St. Louis.
   He was born in Alamo, Tenn., and lived in Crockett County before moving to Memphis about 36 years ago. He was a member of the Travelers Protective Association. He was a Methodist.   He leaves his wife, Mrs. Frankie Stephenson; two sons, James R. Stephenson of Memphis and Master Sgt. E.B. Stephenson, an instructor at Clemson College, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Johnnie Whitaker of Memphis and Mrs. John C. Smith of Stuttgart, Ark.; his mother, Mrs. Dolly Taylor of Memphis, and three sisters, 
                                                                  Mrs. Katy Edwards and Mrs. I.A. Cates of Memphis and Mrs. Ethel Ball of Alamo.

 

Frankie (Tucker) Stephenson (b. Aug. 5, 1893, Alamo, Tenn.; d. May 26, 1987, Memphis, Tenn.)

   Mrs. Frankie T. Stephenson, 94, of Memphis, died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital East. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Elmwood. She was a member of the Springdale Methodist Church. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Johnnie Whitaker of Memphis and five grandchildren.

   MRS. LOTTIE S. SMITH, 76, of 2795 West Battle Creek Cove, wife of John C. Smith, died at 4 p.m. yesterday at her home.  Memphis Funeral Home has charge.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stuttgart, Ark.  She leaves her mother, Mrs. Frankie Stephenson, and a sister, Mrs. Johnnie Whitaker, both of the home. 

 

 

 

James Rye Stephenson (b. March 15, 1914, Alamo, Tenn; d. March 15, 1967, Memphis, Tenn.)

   Services for James Rye Stephenson of 778 North Merton, World War II veteran, who died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday at Methodist Hospital, will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow a Memphis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. He was 53 yesterday.

   Mr. Stephenson had been ill for six years. He was retired as manager of Muscari Distributors. He served with the Navy during World War II and was a member of Raleigh Baptist Church.

   He was born in Alamo, Tenn., and lived in Memphis almost all his life. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Al Chymia Temple, Pr Avenue Masonic Lodge and the Stonewall Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

   He leaves his wife, Mrs. Wanda Stephenson, a daughter, Mrs. Gayle Woodruff of Evansville, Ind.; two sons, Wilford Franklin Stephenson of Indianapolis and Larry Stephenson of Evansville; his mother, Mrs. Frankie Stephenson of 788 North Merton; a brother, E.B. Stephenson of Glasgow, Ky.; two sisters, Mrs. Jonnie (sic) Whitaker of 788 North Merton and Mrs. John C. Smith of Stuttgart, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

   Milford Sidney Whitaker, 68, of 1855 Nelson, Thursday afternoon at home. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Anna Louise Roberts, of Warner Robins, Ga., a sister, Mrs. Trilby Daggett, of 1855 Nelson. Memphis Funeral Home in charge with burial at Cotton Plant, Arkansas.
