“W. WADDINGTON SPAIN, 61 of Summerville, S.C., former Memphian and a forester for Westvaco Co., at a Charleston, S.C. hospital yesterday. Mr. Spain attended Southwestern at Memphis and was a forestry graduate of University of Michigan, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was a member of American Foresters and South Carolina Forestry Assoc. He was a district superintendent of Wood Procurement for Westvaco. Mr. Spain was a brother of the late Brig. Gen. DeWitt S. Spain, World War II flier for whom the downtown airport was named. Gen Spain died in 1970. Mr. Spain leaves his wife, Mrs. Blache Jordan Thomas Spain; a son, W Waddington Spain Jr. of Summerville; and a daughter, Mrs. Richard Simonyi of Memphis; two brothers, Harrison M. Spain Jr. of Memphis and john N Spain of Middlebury, CN; his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. H.M. Spain Of Memphis; and six grandchildren.
“Services at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow at the James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville, S. C; burial in Summerville. The family requests any memorials be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.”
