MATHIS FAMILY CEMETERY
From Milan toward Medina on Hwy. 45, turn right on Goat City Rd. Follow it until you are at an intersection of crossroads. Bobbit, Mathis Crossing, Lonnie Holt and Blackmon Roads all intersect here. The cemetery in right at the roadside in the edge of a field. It is fairly overgrown but very visible from the road.
There is no formal sign marking the name of the cemetery, but the
headstones indicate that this was a family cemetery.

Died in Covington. Tipton County.
"His last words- Meet me in Heaven".
MATHIS Carlton b. 08/07/1801 d. 11/09/1888
"His many virtues form the noblest monument to his memory".
Mary Died age 80. d. 11/04/1882
"The many pains of death are past, Labor and sorrows cease and life's long waits are
closed. At last, Her soul is found in peace."
The original headstones of Carlton and Mary Mathis are in poor condition. A new monument has been placed in front of the old stones. It is inscribed with the above information and states "Replaced in 1981".
