Dr.
Pleasant H. Mitchell was one of my wife's ancestors. He was a
physician
and was in the State House of Representatives in about 1840. The family
cemetery is on the Joe Barker farm near the Center Cemetery. My father in
law, W. F. Jones, Jr. contacted Mr. Barker, who said he would show us the
cemetery. We went to his house, then drove threw about three cattle gates
or fences to a grove of trees. He brought a hoe and shovel so we could
clear off the leaves and sticks. The stones were there, some standing and
some lying on the ground. Dr. Mitchell's was lying on the ground broken.
His wife Ann's was still standing. We cleaned off the deep layer of leaves
and sticks, I washed his stone with water and my hands and took pictures
with the reflected light I could get from the sky.
