a verse on her stone
My flesh shall slumber in the ground
Till Christ shall bid it rise
Then with these five dear babes around
I'll Meet him in the skies
One now liveth by my arm
While four lie at my feet;
We'll then with friends safe from all harm
In sweetest friendship meet
From this verse it seems she died in childbirth, There are
empty spaces at her feet with no stones, so possibly 4 infants
are buried there, dying at or shortly after birth.

There were other Negroes buried on the West side, but only the one
stone can be found.
In 1870 the southern county line from Humboldt west was fairly
square. Cox's
Chapel was in the 16th District and Quincy was in the 4th district. 1872
Crockett County was formed, moving the county line north to the Forked Deer
River. The southern county line then went as the river goes. Cox's Chapel
and Quincy both became Crockett Co. There is still a dispute as to where the
county line actually is now and when you travel from Humboldt west on Hwy.,
152, you cross the disputed area which is south of the Forked Deer River.
Madison Co. gave up south of Gadsden, Dyer County gave up Friendship, Maury
City and Haywood from Bells to Johnson Grove area.
It was named Crockett County for some lost Tennessean that told us where
to
go and went to Texas. Seems like he fought for a losing cause in San Antonio.
