Jeremiah Williams and wife Eliza moved to Gibson County, TN, from Alabama in the 1800s with their many children.

Of these children, there were a son, William W. Williams who lived near the Idlewild Community.

WILLIAM W. WILLIAMS married Caroline Dawson (listed as Dossons in the census) and they had a son named Henry. However, Henry and Caroline both died at young ages and were buried in the old Williams Family Cemetery near Idlewild. This cemetery was destroyed and no tombstones remain.

In the early 1870s, widowed William married Luiza E. Williams, daughter of William S. and Malissa Waldrop Williams. They had 3 children together.  They were Carroll Huston Williams, Alexander Lafayette Williams, and Bessie Beatrice Williams.

CARROLL HUSTON WILLIAMS
Born Sept. 23, 1874.  Carroll Huston Williams was raised near Idlewild, TN.  He married Sarah Ellen (Sallie) McDonald and they had a daughter named Nina.  Carroll and Sallie divorced in the late 1890s and Nina was raised by her grandmother McDonald.  Carroll then married Vina Artilla Knott, daughter of William Jasper and Nancy Elizabeth Akin Knott, in 1900. Nancy had also been married and divorced.  Her child from her first marriage, Effie, would assume the surname of her stepfather, Carroll, until she grew up and got married.

Carroll and Vina (prounounced Viney) had seven children. They were:
William Govener (Buck) Williams, Eunice Williams, Fred Williams, Odis Williams, Sammie Lee Williams, Henry Clay Williams, and Nancy Lorene Williams.  W.G. (Buck) (1901-1990) married Minnie Lou Myers and they had four children, three of which lived to adulthood. Buck and Minnie Lou are buried in Harmony Cemetery near Idlewild.  Eunice (1903-1996) married Thomas Jackson (Jack) Vick, who was previously married to Vina's sister, Willie Knott.  Eunice and Jack lived in Chicago, IL. with their two children. They are buried at Pounds & Idlewild Cemetery in Idlewild, TN.  Fred (1906-1985) married Hattie Jewel Bell and they had four children.  Fred was active in Harmony Primitive Baptist Church and he and Jewel are buried in the church cemetery.  Odis (1910-2001) married Sue Kathryn Powell, daughter of Luther and Lera Powell. They had only one daughter. Odis and Sue lived near Idlewild and he is buried in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery near Cades.  Sue survives him.  Sammie (Sam) (1912-1934) was killed and found lying on a road-side.  His death is still a mystery.  He was dating, but had never married at the time of his death. He is buried in Pounds & Idlewild Cemetery.  Henry (1916-1978) married Ollie Arnold, Mabel Johnson, and Chalma McCaleb Weakley. He was divorced from all three. He and Ollie had one child, while he and Mabel had three. Henry is buried in Pounds & Idlewild Cemetery by Chalma.  Lorene (1919-) married Fred Howard McCartney, son of John E. and Etta Yates McCartney.  They had three sons.  Fred died in 1977 and was buried in Belew's Chapel Cemetery. Lorene survives.

Carroll served as a deputy sheriff of Gibson County. He died on Feb. 19, 1932 at his home in Idlewild of heart disease. He left his wife Vina who buried him at Pounds & Idlewild Cemetery.  Carroll was buried next to his father, William W. Williams, and his aunt, Martha Williams.

Vina lived until 1962. She spent most of her later years living with her daughter, Lorene McCartney. Vina, who was crippled by a stroke prior to her husband's death, died in March of 1962. She decided to be buried next to her son, Sam, who was buried at Idlewild.
