J. G. Butler }
I J. D. Smith have this day bargained and Sold and do transfer unto J. G. Butler, his heirs and
assigns forever for the consideration of Six Hundred Dollars to me in hand paid, a tract of
land in Gibson County State of Tennessee District No. 17 and bounded as follows:
Beginning at North East Corner of Burrel Patterson's tract, running North to the Obion River
with Bogles tract thence West with said River to G Canon tract, thence South with said tract to
B. Patterson's tract, thence East with said tract to the beginning. By estimation One hundred
and Sixty acres be the same more or less to have & to hold unto the said J. G. Butler his heirs
and assigns forever and I covenant with the said J. G. Butler that I am lawfully seized of said
land & have a good right to convey the same & that it is unencumbered & I further covenant for
myself my heirs & assigns forever to the said J. G. Butler his heirs against all lawful claims
whatsoever. Witness my hand and seal this 18 of December 1874 - J. D. Smith
State of Tennessee, Gibson County } Personally appeared before me M. C. Holmes, Clerk of the
County Court of said County, J. D. Smith, the bargain unto the attached Deed with whom I am
personally acquainted and acknowledged that he executed the same for the purpose therein
contained. Witness my hand at office this 4 day of Jan. 1876.
