Last Will & Testament of
ALEXANDER McCULLOCH Dec'd
Proven and established at the
Sept. Term 1846 of Dyer
County Court -

In the Name of God. Amen.

I ALEXANDER McCULLOCH of the County of Dyer & state of Tennessee viewing the uncertainty of life & the certainty of death and being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this to be my last will & Testament, hereby revoking all other wills heretofore by me made -

My will and desire is that my Body shall be buried in a plain & decent manner & my Soul return to God who gave it -

With regard to my worldly affairs I hereby will & bequeath unto my beloved wife FRANCIS F. McCULLOCH my negroes, LUCY a woman aged about Fifty years KATE, a woman aged about Eighteen years & her child 18 months old & NED a Boy aged about Ten years.

It is further my desire that all my Real Estate shall be sold as soon after my death as practicable, and all of my stock of every description, and after the payment of all my just debts, I wish my son JAMES McCULLOCH & my son-in-law NATHANIEL BURTON to move me beloved wife to the State of Texas & to purchase a small tract of land out of any money that my property may be sold for, the tract of land to be purchased in Texas to contain Two Hundred acres or there abouts upon which to settle my beloved wife, And at the death of my wife FRANCIS, my will and desire is that my son JAMES shall have the land hereby directed to be purchased in Texas. I further will and bequeath at the death of my beloved wife that all my property money & Negroes shall be equally divided between my son JAMES McCULLOCH & my two Grand sons BENJAMIN ESTICE BENTON & ALEXANDER McCULLOCH PIERCE share and share alike except Five Hundred Dollars which I hereby give & bequeath to my daughter ELIZABETH TARRANT wife of ROBERT TARRANT which is to be paid so soon as my Executors may be able to make sales of property & collect the same after the death of my beloved wife.

I have given to my Daughter MARY ANN wife of WILLIAM L. MITCHELL her portion of my Estate, I therefore give her no more - I have also advanced to my Daughter SARAH M. S. CRIBBLE in her lifetime. I therefore give nothing unto her heirs - ALEXANDER, JOHN A., BENJAMIN & HENRY ESTICE McCULLOCH: an all men & able to provide for themselves. I therefore give them no more - than what they have allready received.

ALEXANDER McCULLOCH PIERCE, as provided for above is the oldest son of my Daughter ADELADE PIERCE wife of ALBERT G. PIERCE.

I hereby nominate & appoint my beloved wife FRANCIS F. McCULLOCH, JAMES C. McCULLOCH & NATHANIEL BENTON my Executors & Executrix, with full power & authority to carry out & execute this my last will & Testament.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 14th day of July A.D. 1846.

Jim sent the following information, which comes from the book "Genealogy and Memoirs of the McCulloch Family", compiled and edited by Bettye McCulloch Henry, 1962:

Alexander McCulloch was born August 16, 1766, in Lunenberg County, Virginia, and died August 4, 1846, in Dyer County, Tennessee. His wife was Frances Fisher Lenoir.

His oldest son, Alexander McCulloch, Jr., was born June 29, 1800, and died April 15, 1866, in Weakley County, Tennessee. His wife was Prudence Tabitha Davey..
