Last will & Testament
Proven and set up at the
April Court 1856

State of Tennessee, Dyer County

A written will and testament I ANDREW HODGES do make and publish this as my last will and Testament hereby revoking and make void all other wills by me at any time made.

First - I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any monies that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of executors.

Secondly - I give and bequeath to my wife LOUISA C. HODGE one hundred acres of land including the improvements on the corner tract of land induring her widowhood and then to go to my eight heirs FRANKLIN W. HODGE, & JOSEPHES HODGES & COLUMBUS A. HODGE & HENRY C. HODGE & NANCY E. HODGE & WILLIAM A. HODGE & MARCUS LAFAYETTE HODGE & MARY SUSAN HODGE, and the balance of my land to go to my eight heirs as they become of age. Also I direct that a young negro woman be bought of part of the money that is coming off my Fathers estate ROBERT HODGE. I also direct that my wife LOUISA C. HODGE have the use of said negro woman during her widow-hood without paying any hire for her and then to go to my heirs her and her increase I also if there is not money enough in hand to pay my debts, that enough of my personal property be sold to pay my debts such as wife LOUISA C. HODGE can spare best & I ANDREW HODGE do will and bequeath to my wife LOUISA C. HODGE the balance of my personal property during her widowhood and then to go to my eight heirs, to wit; FRANKLIN W. HODGE, and JOSEPHUS HODGE and COLUMBUS T. A. HODGE and HENRY C. HODGE, NANCY E. HODGE, MARCUS LAFAYETTE HODGE, MARY SUSAN HODGE, WILLIAM A. HODGE. I ANDREW HODGE do direct that the money or property that is coming to me from my uncle GEORGE HODGE estate at the death of his widow, be first to the use of educating my children if necessary, and if not put out on interest and equally divided among the above named heirs, I also direct that the balance of the money coming from my Fathers estate after buying a negro woman above mentioned, be put to the use of educating the above mentioned heirs, I also appoint GEORGE MILLER as my Executor to settle up my business. In witness whereof I do to this my last will set my hand and seal this 9th of January 1854.
