Last Will & Testament

State of Tenn., Dyer County, I, JOHN M. CARROLL do make and publish this, as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all others by me at any time made.

First - I direct that fifty acres of land lying & being in the north east corner of my land be set apart for the purposes of paying my debts should it become necessary - should it not become necessary for the above named land to be sold then I desire that JOHN POPE and JULIA CARROLL remain on the above named land for three more years. First; I direct that all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any moneys that I may die possessed of, or may first come into the hands of my executrix -

Secondly - I give and bequeath unto my wife, SUSANNAH MARGARET ELIZABETH CARRELL, during her lifetime, the use of my farm, all the household and kitchen furniture also all the stock that may be necessary to carry on the farm; after her death the lands together with all the stock, household and kitchen furniture to be sold and the proceeds to be equally divided between my surviving children after allowing SABAN, FRANKLIN and ALBERT CARRELL children of JOHN D. CARRELL and his wife JULIA CARRELL, ten dollars each.

4th I give and bequeath unto my son ASBNER COOPER CARRELL a yellow suckling colt.

Lastly, I do hereby nominate & appoint my wife SUSANNAH MARGARET ELIZABETH CARRELL my executrix. In witness whereof I do to this my will, set my hand, this the the twenty second day of December one Thousand eight hundred and seventy six.
