Midway community is located in western Dyer County: Heloise is located North and Chic is located South, this community was mid way between, hence the name of Midway. At one time the area was a small thriving community making their living off the land by farming and logging. The banks of the Mississippi were very near. The community had a cotton gin, which burned about 1938 and not replaced, two little grocery stores and a school. The school sat on about an acre which was donated by Robert Marion Willard. The school was a small, wood building - made into two rooms with a curtain-type divider in the center of the building. Grades 1-4 were taught in one room, 5-8 in the other, and in the earlier years by the same teacher. The school also served as a church, community center and other events: cake walks, plays and often singers and their bands would perform in the school building. The school would have on average 20-50 students in attendance. The school began in the 1920s. About 1952 or 1953 it burned and was never replaced.
