State Gazette Dyersburg, Tennessee Monday afternoon edition July 30, 1962 "VIAR RITES SAID AT CURRY'S TODAY- Born, Reared And Lifelong Resident Of Community Named For Father- Walter Oscar Phillip Viar of the Viar community, Route 2, Dyersburg for whose father the Viar community was named, died at his home at 7:30 o'clock Saturday night. He was 84." "Born in the Viar community and a lifelong resident, Mr. Viar was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Delila Reagan Viar, early Dyer county settlers, who moved to Dyer County from Virginia nearly a century ago. He was the husband of Mrs. Edna W. Viar, who survives him. A retired farmer, he was a charter member of the Viar Methodist Church." "Funeral services for Mr. Viar were held at four o'clock today, Monday, at Curry's Chapel here. The Reverend W.C. Baker officiated and burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Freddie Moss, Oscar Moss, David Moss, Rafe Boone, John F. Seratt and Will Seratt. J.W. Curry and Son had charge of arrangements." "Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L.M. Seratt and Mrs. Troy Rice, both of Dyersburg, and Mrs. Myra Boone, Macon, Georgia; six sons, Burl Viar, Walter J. Viar, and Stoy H. Viar, all of Dyersburg; Elvis L. Viar, Hardy, Arkansas, Connie H. Viar, Memphis, and Charles O. Viar, Davison, Michigan; 33 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren." |
