Dyersburg State Gazette Sept. 13, 1951 Elbert M. Thurmond died Wednesday afternoon at the residence near Finley. He was 55 and had lived in Bogota all his life until five years ago he moved to Finley to make his home with Ben J. Slaughter. He had been ill for two weeks. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie Lou Thurmond; two daughters, Mrs. Reba Ambrose and Mrs. Ernestine Thomas of Alamo; three sons, Alfus M. Thurmond of Trimble, Elbert Ray Thurmond of Chicago, and Lexie B. Thurmond of Chicago; two brothers, Albert Thurmond of Nauvoo and Strawnie Thurmond of Bogota; four sisters, Mrs. Lena Jones of Newbern, Mrs. Florence Whitson of Midway, Mrs. Frances Slaughter of Lansing, Michigan, and Nettie Pleasent of Bruceville, Tennessee. Services will be conducted Friday at two o'clock at the Springhill Baptist Church with the Reverend Baker officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with J. W. Curry and Son in charge of arrangements. |
