The State Gazette, Dyersburg, Tenn Dec 31, 1965: Otis Stewart Dies Thursday; Otis Stewart, 308 Ferrell Street, Dyersburg, timber cuter and former minister, died at Parkview Hospital at 1:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Thursday. He was 60. Mr. Stewart was the son of the late Ernest and Minnie Hill Stewart. He was the husband of Mrs. Martha Short Stewart, who survives him. Funeral arrangements for Mr. Stewart were incomplete today awaiting the arrival of a daughter from California. J. W. Curry and Son will have charge. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Roger Nichols, Gilroy , California, Patsy Stewart and Nancy Stewart, both at home, a son, Paul Stewart, Dyersburg; a brother Elgie Stewart, Chicago; a sister Mrs. Lucille Scott; and six grandchildren.


The State Gazette, Dyersburg, Tenn Dec 31, 1965 Ministers Rites at Hawthorne Church; Funeral services for the Reverend Otis Stewart, to, of 308 Ferrell Street, who died Thursday at Parkview Hospital after a long illness, were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Hawthorne Baptist Church. The rites were said by the Reverend Thomas Drake, LeRoy Thurmond, LeRoy Hill, Bobbie Hill, Bobbie Blackley, O'Dell Jernigan and Junior Jernigan served as active pallbearers. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery with J. W. Curry and Son in charge of arrangements. Mr. Stewart, who was the son of the late Ernest Stewart and the late Mrs. Minnie Hill Stewart, was born in Kentucky. He moved to Dyer County with his parents when he was fourteen and had resided her since, where he was well known and highly esteemed. He was a member of the Cavalry Hill Baptist Church here. He is survived by is wife, Mrs. Martha S. Stewart; and three daughters; Mrs. Roger Nichols of Gilroy , California, and Misses Patsy and Nancy Stewart at home, one son, Paul Stewart at home; a sister Mrs. Lucille Scott of Memphis; a brother Elzie Stewart of Chicago; and six grandchildren, Lyn, Mike, Marion, Tony, Leigh and Kimberly Nichols.
