As published in the State Gazette on Monday, February 23, 1970 Retired Farmer Dies Saturday Herbert Vester Seratt, seventy-six, Star Route, Lenox, retired farmer, died Saturday afternoon. He was a native of Chester county but had been a resident of Dyer county, where he was well known and esteemed, for many years. Funeral services were held at three o'clock this afternoon in the chapel of the Curry Funeral Home. The rites were said by the Reverend Herschel Pressler. Serving as pallbearers were J.C. Styers, Paul Studdard, C.P.Skyls, Ivey Childress, David McBride and Ernest Childress. Interment was in the Neely's Chapel Cemetery with Curry's in charge. Seratt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Hicks Seratt; three daughters, Mrs. Velma Battle of Chicago, Mrs. Maxine Sipes of Bolivar, and Miss Jane Seratt of Arlington Heights, Illinois; five sons, Jay Seratt of Dyersburg, Clifford Seratt of Chicage, Elbert Seratt of Miston, Jessie Seratt of Lansing, Michigan, and Melvin Seratt of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Viar of Missouri and Mrs. Ordell Viar of Lenox; four brothers, Will Seratt and John Seratt of Lenox, Alvy Seratt of Roellen and Grady Seratt of Dyersburg; twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. |
