16 Feb 1962 Former Countian Dies Early Today Mrs. Nettie Bivens Presley, who had lived in Dyer County all of her life until she moved to Brownsville, Tennessee, two years ago, died at her home there early this morning. She was 56, and a member of the Brownsville Baptist Church. Funeral services for Mrs. Presley are incomplete this morning. Johnson Funeral Home of Newbern will have charge. She is survived by her husband, Rufus Presley; a daughter, Mrs. Claud Butler, Jr. Brownsville; two sons, Charles Presley and James B. Presley, both of Brownsville; three sisters, Mrs. Gladys Bivens, Mrs. I. J. Baker and Mrs. Morris Garrison, all of Dyersburg; three brothers, O. B. Bivens, Hassell Bivens and Fletcher Bivens, all of Dyersburg, and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Presley Dies Thursday At Her Home Native of Dyer County Burial in Dyersburg Mrs. Rufus Presley died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 15, at her home at 712 Cherokee. She was 56, and a native of Dyer County. She had made her home here for two years and was a member of the Brownsville Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 o'clock at Hillcrest Baptist Church and burial was in Fairview Cemetery there. She leaves her husband, Rufus Presley, her sons, Charles Presley, and Bill Presley, both of Brownsville, and a daughter, Mrs. Rachel Butler of Brownsville.
Dyersburg State Gazette Hold Rites Today For Mrs. Presley Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Bivens Presley, 56, former resident of Dyer county, who died at her home in Brownsville early yesterday morning, were held at three o'clock this afternoon in the Hillcrest Baptist Church here. The rites were said by the Reverend H. K. Sorrell, the Reverend J. E. Cooper, and the Reverend R. H. Dills, the latter pastor of Hillcrest church. Deacons of the Brownsville Baptist church serves as pallbearers. They are Max Bishop, Jim Booth, W. H. Walker, A. W. Ferguson, Robert Philpot and Leon Callery. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery here with Johnson Funeral Home of Newbern in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Presley had resided in Dyer county until two years ago when she moved to Brownsville to make her home. She was a devout member of the Baptist church and was held in the highest esteem by her many friends in both Dyer and Haywood counties. She is survived by her husband, Rufus Presley; a daughter, Mrs. Claud Butler, Jr., Brownsville; two sons, Charles Presley and James B. Presley, both of Brownsville; three sisters, Miss Gladys Bivens, Mrs. I. J. Baker and Mrs. Morris Garrison, all of Dyersburg; three brothers, O. B. Bivens, Hassell Bivens and Fletcher Bivens, all of Dyersburg, and seven grandchildren. |
