STATE GAZETTE DYERSBURG, TENNESSEE FIFTY-SEVENTH YEAR NO. 92 FRIDAY NOVEMBER 17, 1922 Dr. H B JOHNSTON BURIED AT RIPLEY--The funeral of Dr. JOHNSTON was as impressive and touching as to bring tears from more than half of the congregation. The rostum was hidden beneath the wealth of wreaths, inwhich chrysanthemums predominated heavily. Bishop MOUZON & Dr. L H ESTES, president and secretary of the conference respectively, in the work for which Dr. JOHNSTON had laid down his life, led to the procession which carried the casket into the church. Four of Dr. JOHNSTON's class mates: Revs. S L JEWELL, W J McCOY, R H PIQUE & W W ADAMS were the honorary pall bearers, and seven other lay and ministerial companions were active as pallbearers, namely: Ernest RICE, Prof. G L MORELOCK, A J BARBEE, Dr. SEVIER, Sam J HUBBARD, J L RICHARDSON & George WILKERSON. The Rev. R W HOOD & Rev. W D JENKINS read the Scriptures over the body of theie comrade and the Rev. J J THOMAS led in a fervent prayer that again set the congregation to crying. Rev. J E BLACHARD & Rev. W W ADAMS eulogized in brief talks of his life, and works of the departed. Dr. BLACHARD said he had been closely associated for 38 years with Dr. Henry Bascom JOHNSTON, and that though the earthly home of his soul may be gone, H B JOHNSTON will live forever, on earth as in heaven. The burial was made in Ripley Cemetery, following the service at the church. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Hamner SCOTT of Dyersburg, Miss Mattie JOHNSTON, and two sons, George & Irwin JOHNSTON of Memphis.
