A native and former Dyersburg resident, who had lived in Memphis for the past nine years, was killed instantly in an automobile accident early Sunday morning near Corinth, Mississippi. The driver of the car was also fatally injured and a passenger is in serious condition at a Memphis hospital.

Hurt and being treated for a broken jaw and frozen feet and hands is 37-year old H.D. Puckett, 4889 Marianne Lane, Memphis, a truck driver for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company.

Funeral services for Mrs. Garvey were held this morning at 11:30 o'clock at National Funeral Home in Memphis. Following the services the funeral cortege left Memphis for Dyersburg and burial was in Fairview Cemetery here at two o'clcok this afternoon.

Mrs. Garvey was the widow of Harold N. Garvey, neon tube bender who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1954. Besides her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvin Lucas, Memphis; a son, Bobby C. Garvey, Alamo, and two brothers, William L. Morris, West Memphis, and Joe Morris, Jackson, Tn.

Mr. Garvey, who grew up here was the son of the late Mrs. Eva Hager who died several years ago in Hot Springs, Ark. Mrs. Hager was a well known Dyersburg resident, owner and operator of a Woman's Apparel store, "Hollywood Frocks" here for years. Mr. Garvey was a nephew of Mrs. W.M. Fowler, Sr., who lives at 737 St. John avenue here.

Mississippi Highway Patrolmen said that the Ford Thunderbird car skidded on ice-slick Highway 72, careened out of control, struck on abutment of a railroad overpass and plunged down a 30-foot embankment. Mrs. Garvey was reported killed instantly.

Mr. Puckett, who was asleep in the back seat, struggled to the top of the embankment with the injured driver. Mr. Maniere, and was able to enlist the aid of a passing motorist only after some four hours had passed. Mr. Maniere died of head injuries in an ambulance en route to Corinth.

The three were returning to Memphis after having taken an unidentified friend to visit his family near Iuka, Mississippi.

Mr. Maniere made his home in Memphis with his aunt, Mrs. J.A. Kendall, until last September when he moved to Florida. He had been unemployed since receiving injuries that left him partly paralyzed in an auto accident near Houston, Texas six years ago. National Funeral Home has charge of funeral arrangements.
