ROUTE NO. 5--George W. PIERCE is sick again. He has suffered a relapse. Hilliard FOWKLES is as fat and jovial as ever. D. l. SHAW, formerly off Route #2 Newbern, has completed his new house and moved on Route #5. Miss Maggie McADOO, of Hickman, Ky, is visiting her brother, Clyde McADOO. Charley BIXLER and wife are visiting his father, J. T. BIXLER.

RESIDENCE BURNED--The residence of D. C. CAMERON was entirely destroyed by fire yesterday. Mr. CAMERON started a fire in the kitchen stove and after a few minutes later, discovered the ceiling on fire. Practically nothing was saved.

LADIES MISSIONARY SOCIETY--The Missionary society of the Presbyterian Church held a meeting with Mrs. M. D. ROBBINS Tuesday afternoon. Interesting papers were read by Mrs. WELLS and Mrs. ROBBINS and an interesting informal talk by Rev. Geo. SCOTT on African missions.

ARRESTED FOR ABDUCTION--Deputy Sheriff R. L. COLLINS arrived in Dyersburg Tuesday with Jim VENABLE, whom he arrested at Huntington, charged with abduction of Montie SAMPSON, the 14 year-old daughter of Mr. Jim SAMPSON. It is charged that VERNABLE, who is a married man, stole the girl from her home in Trimble Monday night and drove to Kenton and then boarded the train for Huntingdon. VERNABLE claims he took the girl to his sister's home in Huntingdon to prevent her from being sent to reform school. He expected to marry her as soon as he procured a divorce from his present wife from whom he is now separated.

TO OLD CONFEDERATES--Iwant to help James E. RICHIE to get a pension if he is entitled to it. He claims to have been a member of Company C. Capt. WYNNE, 47th Regiment. He now lives in Alabama; is poor and old, and wants and needs a pension. If you know of him and his services, please send me your information at the earliest date possible. S. R. LATTA.

TO BLACKSMITHS--The blacksmith tools and outfit of the late John McGINNIS are for sale. Shop may be rented. Apply to Mrs. Carrie McGINNIS.

LENOX--Old Uncle Ryley PEAL, who has been suffering several days with la grippe, is able to be up again. Guss COLEMAN'S child came very near being burned to death last Thursday, while at the supper table. It reached up from it's mother's lap and pulled tea off, spilling the boiling hot tea upon it, burning it from head to foot. Mrs. COLEMAN also was burned very bad. Miss Bonnie HOUSE, of Dyersburg, is visiting Miss Clara GILLIS and her many other friends. Miss Clara GILLIS has just returned from a protracted visit to her uncle, Bud DANIELS at Dyersburg. Dr. WEEKLY has sold out here and moved to Newbern.

CHURCH GROVE--Miss Hattie HENDERSON, of Sorrell's Chapel, was the guest of her neice, Mrs. Maude KING a few days last week. The Stork passed through quite recently, leaving Mr. & Mrs. Gwynne GREEN a bright baby boy. Lunn SORRELL, R. L. TARKINGTON, and Jim BAKER were delegates from Sorrell's Chapel Lodge to County Union that met here Saturday.

STOKES--H. PENNINGTON has recovered from a recent spell of sickness sufficiantly to be able to be on duty again carrying the mail. A. R. BIGGS has been suffering with a sprained arm for several days. Jesse YOUNG is quite sick with pneumonia. Jesse GREEN and family, of Elizabeth, spent Saturday night with Newt GREENWAY's family. J. PERRY and Miss Pearl YOUNG stole a march on their friends lastSunday afternoon and drove to Esq. A. B. CHAMBERS near Holly Grove and were married, the squire officiating.

THE SAD NEWS--was received here Friday night of the death at Earl. Ark., of the six-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. W. A. BONNER. Mr. BONNER will be remembered as a representative here of the Mengal Box Co.

THURSDAY, APRIL 11, 1907--Miss Nell LATTA is in Memphis where she went to be maid of honor at the wedding of her cousin Miss Nell CRAIG. Mrs. John LATTA is also in Memphis. Capt. John L. WEBB, of Paducah, was in the city Tuesday and paid his respects at the State Gazette. Capt. WEBB has the honor of being the longest continuous subscriber on out list, having taken the paper since 1865, the first year of its existance. Dr. J. R. CRAIG, G. B. DelVECCHIO, R. C. COCHRAN, and John C. ROGERS attended the K & P installation and banguet at Halls Tuesday. Miss Kate BAKER of Dyersburg was the guest of Miss Cleo CARSON last week, having part in a play presented at Halls Friday evening, Ripley News. Jim WILSON and little daughter Lucille, spent several days in Memphis last week visiting Rev. John WILSON's family. J. E. HARRELL has returned from a several days visit to his children in Nashville. Chas. G. WATKINS of the Baker-Watkins Company is confined to his room with an attack of malarial. Mrs. J. R. CRAIG is in Memphis, Visiting her sister, Mrs. W. F. SUMMERS. Miss Willie BAILEY of Bowling Green, KY is visiting the family of M. B. PRITCHARD. Mrs. W. L. BRITT, of Jackson, Miss., is visiting Mrs. T. J. WILLIAMS this week. W. H. JORDAN, of Henning was the guest Sunday of Rev. & Mrs. A. J. MEADERS. Dr. J. R. CRAIG and Mrs. Mode HOWELL are enjoying a visit from their mother, Mrs. John CRAIG of Bells, TN.

NEWBERN--Allene PARKS, the little daughter og B. R. PARKS, has returned home after visiting relatives in Halls. Dr. E. T. HASKINS left this week for New Mexico, where he will spend vacation. Roy JONES recently left for New Albany, Miss. Charles GLASS has returned from a visit to relatives in Ripley. Miss Tabitha HARRIS has returned home, after an extended visit of several months in Texas. Ira LAMBERT of Miss., was here last week, visiting relatives. Mr. BANDY and family of Newbern, moved to Trenton last week.

FINLEY--Mrs. Roark JACKSON is very ill. Miss Nell LITTLE, who has been attending school in Martin, has come home. Tom WHEELER has been very ill.

ROUTE #3--N. TUCKER has gone to Memphis to work at the carpenter's trade. Mrs. C. WAYLAND, of West Plains, Mo., is visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. SUMMERS at Hurricane Hill. Miss Lyda BOYD, of Rockport, Ind., is visiting her father, H. P. BOYD near Hurricane Hill. Mr. & Mrs. HUFFINES are the proud parents of a fine girl, which came to gladden their home on Monday, April 1. Mr. & Mrs. W. HARNESS are happy over the arrival of another son, which made his advant recently.

RoELLEN--Miss Pauline PURSELL, of Dyersburg, was the guest of Mrs. T. POWELL last week. Mrs. George PIERCE is on the sick list. Ludith RODGES and Miss Eva PACE of Newbern attended the dedication sermon last Sunday. Miss Jane DAVIS has closed her school on account of measles.

BACKOUT NEWS--S. W. WILLIAMS has bought a fine mare, which cost him $175. John BOYD and family visited Mrs. Eula EDWARDS Sunday. Miss Pauline EDWARDS is spending the week with Mrs. BOYD.

MENGLEWOOD--G. MOODY and wife left last Saturday for Burnsville, NC, where they will spend a month with homefolks. Mrs. E. C. CRAIG is visiting her mother near Neboville this week. John MELTON and wife, of Poseyville, Ind., are visiting relatives here. The following is a general average of the 7th grade pupils of our school, there being only three in the class; Miss Carrie CHILDRESS, 93 1/3; Miss Minnie MAHON, 92 3/8; Howard HUGO 91 7/8. T. F. VADEN has returned from a visit to his home near Gates. Little Louise HICKS is very sick. J. W. PORTER, wife and Mrs. ALLEN, of Mooring, are visiting Mrs. A. J. TACKER.
