STATE GAZETTE UNION MEETING--The second in a series of Union Meetings were held at Cumberland Church last Sunday evening. The evening service was opened with the Doxology. A quarette composed of Mrs. BUTTERWORTH, Mrs. HUBBARD, Dr. COOPER and Mrs. Frank LATTA sang Rock of Ages. The Offertory was sung by Miss Allene NICHOLS. Rev. Geo. P. SCOTT of the Presbyterian Church preached the sermon. FIRE AT UNION CITY, TENN., MARCH 25. --The corn mill of the Dahnke-Walker Milling Company, located on Main Street and the Mobile & Ohio railroad, was totally destroyed by fire about 10 o'clock tonight. The mill had shut down at 6 p. m. and the fire must have started in the operation room. The building was of brick, three stories high, and a large elevator connected with the mill was saved. Loss, $35,000; insurance $19,000. CARS & MERCHANDISE BURNED, MEMPHIS, TENN., MARCH 22. --A Frieght house of the Illinois Central Railroad, situated in the southern part of the city, together with 25 car-loads of merchandise and sixty empty frieght cars were destroyed by fire tonight, entailing a loss estimated at $85,000. EdwardLOHMAN, of Memphis, visited Miss DANIEL here Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. H. Y. DARNELL, after a three weks stay at St. Petersburg and other Florida resorts, have returned home. Mr. & Mrs. Heber JOHNSTON spent Sat. & Sun. with Mr. & Mrs. Sam SIDWAY. Misses Maud & Emma EZELL of Maury City, are the guests of Miss Kate POSTON. Miss Cano FERGUSON has returned from Ardmore, Indian Territory, after spening several months with her sister, Mrs. C. E. SHOCKLEFORD. Mrs. SHOCKLEFORD accompanied her sister home and will be here with homefolks for a short stay. Mrs. Henry KLYCE delightfully entertained the Saturday Afternoon Club. Miss May DOYLE won the prize. C. D. WHITE, a prosperous merchant of RoEllen, was in the city yesterday accompanied by his two daughters. Mrs. Clyde GRISHAM, of Newbern, was the guest of Mrs. Henry KLYCE last week. Mrs. John HOWELL accompanied by Aileen and Louis NEAL, leave tomorrow for Randolph, Tenn., to visit Mrs. HOWELL's son, Rev. L. Hays HOWELL. Mrs. C. H. PETERS, of Jackson, has returned home after a visit to her daughter, Mrs. Will SUMMERS, who has been sick. A little daughter of R. S. BEAVER, of Stokes, is quite sick. Mr. & Mrs. John SEGRAVES are celebrating the advent of a bouncing baby boy, who tips the scales at 11 pounds. Mrs. M. W. EWELL is up after six weeks illness. M. W. EWELL, of the H. A. KLYCE Co., went to New Orleans Monday night on business. Mr. & Mrs. R. Don CHAMBERS' little girl is quite sick with fever. BOGLE & COLLINS--Married Sunday evening, March 17, by Rev. H. C. GAMBLE, at the home of the bride's father; Mr. J. D. BOGLE, of Dyersburg and Miss Vona, daughter of Deputy Sheriff R. H. COLLINS. They will make their future home in Dyersburg. RoELLEN--Little Francis PIERCE is on the sick list. Miss Ola KISER, who has been very sick for several days is improving. Bill PIERCE, who has been attending college at Bowling Green, was in RoEllen on business last Thursday. DYER COLLEGE--Will PRICE, of near Stokes, is working at J. D. PAYNE's. Dutch GRIFFIN, of near Friendship, has moved into our community. Since our last report, Jewell HOOKS and Miss HARWELL have been united in marriage. Mark COBURN, who got his leg broke some time ago, is now able to walk on crutches. Bro. HARRIS, our pastor at Mt. Pisgah, was called to the bedside of his sister last Sunday and Rev. Clint YOUNG filled his appt., Sunday evening. FOWKLES--Our town is still growing in numbers, the stork visited the homes of Jeff FITZHUGH and Henry KING last Wednesday week and left each a bright baby girl. Dr. RICHARDSON is on the puny list and Bro. HARRISON is away from home attending the bedside of his sister. Mrs. DEWESE and little daughter, Minnie Glenn, visited relatives at Covington last week. Little Clifton, daughter of G. B. HARRIS, has the measles at the home of her grandmother, north of Dyersburg. Mrs. GOODWIN is spending a few days with her son, Sam, at this place. Mrs. Jessie WALTERS, of Lake Coromant, Miss., is visiting her mother, Mrs. GRIFFIN. SAMARIA--Mrs. J. T. WILSON is quite sick. R. L. DANIELS has been suffering for several of erysipelas in his face. Henry WEIMER is having a nice cottage built on his lot in South Dyersburg. Alonzo ECHOLS is doing the work. Charlie E. TURNLEY, who has been a resident of this community for about forty years, has sold his farm and moved to Kentucky. BACKOUT NEWS--S. U. WILLIAMS' family and J. SMITH went out to Emmans to church Sunday. R. BELL did the preaching. Mrs. Fannie WILLIAMS visited her son, S. WILLIAMS Saturday night. Miss Gladys and Minnie REED visited Jim DENISON's family Saturday night. CHESTNUT BLUFF--Mr. & Mrs. BRASSFIELD are rejoicing over a fine boy left at their home. Also Mart NORVILL is smiling over a big boy at his home. Miss Trudie BRASSFIELD has been very sick several days with chicken-pox.
