STATE GAZETTE MRS. MADISON RUCKER DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS--Many hearts were made sad Sunday morning, when news came of the death of Mrs. Madison RUCKER, who had only been ill a few days with a severe throat trouble. Mrs. RUCKER was, before her marriage a few years ago, Miss Eddie LEE, daughter of Mrs. J W REED of this city. Besides her husband, she is survived by a small son, a little over a year old, her mother and sister, Miss Willie Kate LEE. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at her home on Forrest Street by her pastor, Rev. M D CLUBB, assisted by Rev. F J HARRELL, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: Robert NIXON, Sam BRADSHAW, Roy FOWKLES, Walter HENNING, Algernon RUCKER, Clifton ROGERS, Chester GREEN, Homer RICHARDS and Mr. LLOYD. TIGRETT MAN ACCIDENTLY SHOT--Osie LIPFORD, 30, who resides one mile west of Tigrett, was accidently shot Saturday morning by his brother, Avis. Both brothers were in the hog lot and after Avis had shot and killed a hog, he attempted to throw the shell out of the gun when another cartridge exploded, shooting his brother, who had stepped in front of the gun. LIPFORD was shot in the abdoman, five performations being made in the right side. He is in serious condition. McCULLOUGH'S CHAPEL--Mr. LAWLER and Bryan DAVIS had a narrow escape Saturday evening when a car run into them and tore the buggy up. Miss Rosa KIMBRELL and Jack KIMBRELL have returned from Missouri. The baby of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence BISHOP is reported better. Moody READ, Earle KINSEY and Jack BOONE enjoyed Saturday hunting. The school at McCullough's is progressing nicely under the management of Mrs. Sula KINSEY and Miss Albitine GURLEY. Mr. DUCKWORTH & Mr. BOONE fought fire about an hour Sunday afternoon to protect their crops. Mr. & Mrs. Dempsey PARKER will move to Barbware Monday and their house will be occupied by Mr. & Mrs. Jimm ADCOCK. LABOR OF LOVE FOR RED CROSS--Mrs. M C HOLT, one of our esteemed pioneers, hunted up for the Red Cross committee Saturday with her donation, every cent of which she had earned by knitting shawls. AT 96 MARRIES A GIRL OF 16. LEXINGTON, KY--The most remarkable wedding in Kentucky since Gen. Cassius M. CLAY, the famous abolitionist, who was 80, married Dora BRUCK, 16 years, 25 years ago, was celebrated near Mt. Vernon when "Uncle Joe" PITTMAN, 96 years old, a veteran of the civil war, and Miss Rosy CLOUSE, 16 years old, daughter of Rev. J C CLOUSE were married. Less than a month after his wife died, about a year ago, he wrote to Miss CLOUSE and asked if he could come to see her. She consented and the courtship began. LOCAL AND PERSONAL--Ike SINCLAIR was here Sunday to visit his parents. Mrs. Allie REAVES, who has been sick is reported better. Mrs. Ed KING and daughter, Miss Dorothy were in Memphis Saturday. Mrs. Cora TODD has been confined to her home on account of illness. Mrs. Charlie BRADSHAW of Memphis, is the guest of Mrs. John CRIBBS on Oak street. Marshall LANIER and Hiram KING of Brownsville spent Sunday with friends in our city. Mrs. Genevive SCOBEY of Memphis, spent Sunday in the home of Mrs. W A FOWKLES. Ben SINCLAIR after a visit here to his father, who is sick, returned to Memphis. Miss Ruth FOWKLES of Union City spent the weekend here with Miss Zedna WALKER and others. Miss Robbie Lee PARKER of Friendship, is the charming guest of Miss Ruth JACOCKS. Miss Willard RAMSEY of Dawson Springs, Ky. , is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Harry BURKS. Carney CALCUTT, who attends University of Illinois at Champaign, Ill. , will arrive Thursday to spenf Thanksgiving with home folks. Mr. & Mrs. Leslie BIFFIE visited their aunt, Mrs. H H COTTON Sunday, while en route to their home in Washington. They have been visiting relatives in Piggott, Ark. , and near Newbern. Mrs. T U WILLINGHAM left this morning for Memphis to meet her daughter, Miss Hazelle, who attends Miss. Synodical College in Holly Springs. They will go from there to Russellville, Ark. , for Thanksgiving. Mrs. MURRAY will go to Jackson on Thanksgiving to witness the game of football between Union University and Cumberland. Her son, Wm. FERGUSON will return with her to Bonicord for the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Leon AGEE. Dr. & Mrs. J P BAIRD and son, Keim, will leave Wednesday for Nashville to spend Thanksgiving with Paul BAIRD, who attends the Castle Heights Military Academy at Lebanon. They will be accompanied by Misses Sadie LATTA and Mary Jane RUCKER, who will visit Mrs. E McPEAK. Mrs. W L HENDREN of Parker and Mrs. A F FINCH of Nauvoo, spent the weekend here with Mrs. J K WHITE. Mrs. Robert DANIEL of Birmingham and Mrs. Ed LOHMAN of Memphis, are visiting Mrs. J L DANIEL and family. Mr. & Mrs. LEE and daughter Marie, of Memphis, were here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Madison RUCKER Monday.
