Memphis Scimitar: John C ROGERS, who was formerly connected with the Kellogg Newspaper Company, in this city, has bought The State Gazette, Dyersburg's weekly paper, from Tom W NEAL, who has been its owner and editor since its birth, in 1865. (the entire front page are different newspaper accounts about Tom NEAL's retirement. )

HELOISE NEWS--Sidney BERKLEY, late of Memphis, has moved to Heloise, where he will engage in farming. He will build on William BESSINGER's land, H M HENDRICKS of Ayers, is having a nice cottage built on his farm. Mr. HENDRICKS is one of our substantial farmers. Richard TUBBS has gone into the horse trading business, judging from appearances. Will PATE has bought a fine span of mules and intends to start farming in earnest. A T McEWING paid a visit to the Rehobeth neighborhood last Sunday.

THE CANNING FACTORY--The building of the Dyersburg Canning Factory is fast approaching completetion. Capt. J B SILVER, the manager, a native of Alabama, born and reared on a big cotton plantation near Mobile.

JACK HARPER-- Jack HARPER died at Tiptonville March 23rd of consumption. Mr. HARPER was a son-in-law of the late J P THURMOND and leaves three motherless children. The funeral was held from the residence of E S THURMOND in this city, services conducted by Rev. A J MEADERS. Interment in City Cemetery.

ADAMS-SULLIVAN--The Parsonage of the Methodist Church was the scene of a quiet, but romantic wedding Wednesday evening of last week, when Miss Marie SULLIVAN and Houston ADAMS, of Mayfield, KY were married. Rev. A J MEADOWS officiating.

DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN--L C WHITE, a prosperous farmer and estimable citizen of this county, died at Halls last Friday morning, aged 72 years. Mr. WHITE had lived in this county nearly all his life. He leaves a wife, two daughters and one son to mourn his loss. The remains were interred at Newbern Cemetery Saturday, services at the grave by Rev. G W EVANS.

DAVIS-BRUCE--Alfred DAVIS & Miss Carrie BRUCE, two young people from Bend Mill surprised their many friends Sunday by coming to Dyersburg and getting married. The wedding took place at the residence of Squire BAKER, Mr. BAKER performing the ceremony. Miss Maggie GRAHAM and Mr. W L SUMMERS came up to witness the ceremony.

MISCELLANEOUS--Miss Ruth THURMOND left Thursday for a visit to St. Louis relatives. Mrs. Mollie CARNE has gone to Texas to visit relatives. Rev. A D RANKIN was in the city last week. Wm. SHERIDAN of Halls, was a visitor in our city last week. Mont PRICE, from near Bonicord, was a visitor in town. Mr. & Mrs. Hart JOHNSON spent Sunday with relatives at Obion. R L BURNETT, who for the past few months has been connected with the Newbern Chronicle, now has charge of the Obion Advertiser, formerly known as the Obion Outlook. Thad LEDSINGER, son of our townsman, Tom LEDSINGER, is meeting with much success in his new home, Elmore, I. T. He has a large farm and is adding to his acreage every season. Crockett County Sentinal: Ed WARE, of Dyersburg, visited his parents, J D WARE and wife this week. Union City Commercial: Neal SINCLAIR and W G CLAGETT were in Dyersburg Sunday. Obion Enterprise: Mrs. John McCORKLE and children visited her sister, Mrs. Dr. COLE of Dyer County last week. Prof. Jefferson MOORE, at one time a teacher in the Dyersburg Public High School, died in Texas last week. Mr. & Mrs. George THOMAS of Louisville, were in town last week, to attend the funeral of B L THOMAS, father of Mrs. THOMAS. Jeff VAUGHN has returned from Jackson, where he went to see his new granddaughter, Miss WILLINGHAM. Mrs. Ida COTTON has been very ill for the past two months and fears are entertained for her recovery. Mrs. N C WOOLRIDGE and daughter, Mary, of Memphis, are guests of Mrs. C E SHACKELFORD. Miss Kate HARSON returned to her home in Covington last Sunday. Prof. Hub MOORE of Halls, was shaking hands with his Dyersburg friends last week. County Clerk Tom FERGUSON is rusticating at Hot Springs, trying to get rid of rheumatism. Ed Baker is Deputy Clerk during his absence. Marshal FERGUSON rounded up eight negroes in "Maiden Lane" Saturday night for bootlegging and shooting craps. Mrs. W R JONES is very sick with throat trouble. Mrs. Morgan HARRIS & Miss Nettie EASLEY spent Saturday in Newbern, and Miss Jessie NEIGHBORS was a recent guest of Miss EASLEY. Mr. Jo WAGNER of St. Louis has been a guest of Mrs. J M EASLEY. Miss Beatrice DARNELL of Memphis and Miss Jennie DARNELL, of Indianapolis, are visiting H Y DARNELL's family.

RIPLEY NEWS--Sheriff DAWSON, of Dyer County, was in town Wednesday. Mr. & Mrs. T W RICE and daughter, Miss Nell, visited relatives in Dyersburg Sunday. E L DUNAWAY, who lives near town, and who is the popular teacher of JOHNSON's school, in Dyer County, and Miss Vernie SMITH, were married Monday morning in the Courthouse, Judge YOUNG performing the ceremony.

NEWBERN TENNESSEAN--Mr. C M NEELY and wife, of Dyersburg, were in the city Monday. Mrs. Maggie CONNER has moved to Dyersburg to reside, where she will take charge of her millinary parlors. Her business here will be presided over by Miss MARTIN. Mr. & Mrs. REUBEN RAWLES, of Finley, enroute to St. Louis, stopped in Newbern Saturday. Sherrod SEAGRAVES, of Dyersburg was here this week buying cattle.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS OLD--Mrs. Lucinda HAM, a well known and highly respected woman of Hard Money, near the Graves County--Tenn. , has just celebrated her 100th birthday at her home here. She had gathered about her scores of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

PROSPECT NEWS--Mrs. Allie JONES was on the sick list last week. John DUDLEY and wife visited their parents near Spring Hill recently. Mr. & Mrs. Anderson JONES visited their daughter, Mrs. Belle YEAGER, last Sunday. A B MARCHANT and wife of Hurricane Hill, visited Mr. & Mrs. C D MARCHANT Sunday. Misses Era SPENCE, Rosa BURNHAM, Martha JONES and Messrs. Zollie LEWELLEN and Oscar FREEMAN, were guests of Miss Bulah MARCHANT, Sunday, also Mr. HUNT and Miss BYLER were the guests of Miss Lillie DAVID. Rev. HOWELL and wife have gone to Dyersburg to visit relatives. Mack LEWELLEN is real sick with rheumatism. W C BURNHAM is building a pretty residence near Albert BURCH near Maxey. T A BOATWRIGHT has sold his store at Mill's Field to George TICKLE and Will WALKER and has bought out Mr. CHAMERS at Lenox. Q C SPRADLEY and family visited J A JONES near Meacham, recently. Will BIXLEY visited his sisters in and near Dyersburg, Sat. & Sun.
