VALUABLE LAND FOR SALE--By virtue of the power contained in a mortgage executed on the 6th day of July 1895, by Dora WHITTEN, of Dyer County, Tennessee and recorded in Book No. 10, page 420 in the Register's office of Dyer County, Tennessee, I will on the 30th of November 1897, sell to the highest bidder----30th October 1897. per J F JOHNSTON, Secretary.

RO-ELLEN NOTES--Squire Dennis HOLLAND is very low with rheumatism. Prof. Dick VAUGHN is teaching school at Hogwallow. Sam MOODY has moved to Missouri and joined Buck GARDNER. Z POWELL has broke up housekeeping since his mother married. Tom KETCHUM and George FINCH, Jr. , were elected deacons last week. A N PATE, of Obion spent a few nights with his brother at this place last week. Miss Zelda TODD has been suffering with toothache several days, also Mrs. Nettie PATE. Miss Lettie VAUGHN and sister Dollie, were guests of Ola HOBDAY last Sunday. Polk POWELL supplied our citizens with fine fresh pork and beef last Friday and Saturday. Archie PATE has one of the best trained bird dogs in the State. While gathering hickory nuts the other day Mrs. Stephen SAWYER was struck on the head by a falling limb and came near bleeding to death. Dr. FERGUSON was called and the wound properly dressed. Jack CLAT and Mr. THOMPSON were in Ro-Ellen Saturday and purchased an anvil and bellows from T C HOBDAY. They are going to run a blacksmith shop down on the Obion river with Mr. CHANDLER, who moved down there near THOMPSON's store some days ago.

ANNOUNCEMENTS--Miss Fleda BOYES, who is teaching school at Miller's Chapel, spent Sunday with her parents at Halls. Mrs. Tom W NEAL and daughter, Carolyn, have gone to Arkansas to eat Thanksgiving dinner with Mrs. Ella Neal CROOK. Last Thursady evening, Miss Ida FOWLER and Mr. John HART, two of our most deserving young people were quietly married by Rev. G T STAINBACK at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. W M FOWLER. Covington Leader: Mr. David PARRISH, of the Christian Church, whose home is at Stokes, Dyer County, began a series of meetings Tuesday night at Elm Grove Church. (page torn-marriage of Miss Nell LATTA to ___on the 30th of this month. ---) The marriage of Miss Birdie TUCKER and Mr. Ivie SKILES is announced this morning at 9 o'clock, at the residence of Dr. W H TUCKER, Rev. B F WHITTEN officiating. Dike WOODS is the proud father of a pretty girl. Gordon BURKE came home to attend the BURKE--PARKER wedding. Mrs. J L WEBB of Paducah is the guest of Hon. B B WATKINS. Mrs. W P ARMSTRONG has been quite sick this week. Mrs. Clarence WALKER is visiting her parents at Orysa, Lauderdale county. John HALE, the barber, has moved into the TUCKER building, next door to the post office. Mr. Sam'l QUISENBERRY of Paducah, spent Sunday with his family, who is visiting F W THOMAS' family. Mrs. QUISENBERRY will leave for home next Saturday. Prof. H K KENNEDY has returned from Lebanon, where he has been the past week visiting his wife and daughter. W H WINTER of Jackson is visiting in Dyersburg. Mr. Will EDWARDS and Miss Nellie HUNT were united in marriage yesterday at the residence of Mr. George JOHNSON, Rev. G T STAINBACK officiating. At night an elegant repast was given the happy couple at the residence of the groom's father, W W EDWARDS, near Finley.

ANOTHER BIG FIRE AT DYERSBURG--Last Monday morning at 1 o'clock, Dyersburg was visited by another disastrous fire which completely destroyed four business houses on the east side of the public square. The origin of it unknown though it started on the ground floor of the State Gazette block, in a store occupied by J D PRITCHARD & Co. , as a bakery, eating house and family grocery. They lost their entire stock. The adjoining building owned by J E HARTON, was occupied by Charley MORRISON as a saloon. The next building, a two story frame was occupied and owned by Mrs. GOLDSMITH, as a family grocery, with residence upstairs. She lost all her stock and most all of her furniture. The next building on the north, was owned by Mrs. Tennie ROOK, and occupied by John HALE, colored, as a barber shop, Mrs. ROOK had insurance on the building and John HALE carried four hundred dollars on his barber shop. Mrs. L A WILDING, who occupies the upstairs over the barber shop as a dress-making establishment and residence, lost everything, barely escaping with their lives. The State Gazette building and printing office are a total loss-partial insurance. G Leslie EMINISOR lost his famous "Chickasaw" wheel in the fire. Henry LLOYD also lost a fine wheel.

MARRIED AT CHURCH--Last Tuesday night, Miss Nannie PARKER and Dr. Robert A. BURKE, were married at the C. P. Church by Rev. G T STAINBACK. The attendants were Mr. Gordon BURKE and Miss Carrie FOWKLES, with Messrs. Harvey MERIWETHER and Edgar YEARGIN. Mrs. Theo. KING presided at the organ. A first-class reception, including a sumptous supper was given the newly wedded pair at the residence of Capt. R A BURKE.

MONEY LOST--While going from the Citizen's Bank to U W MITCHELL's store, I dropped $30 in paper money. Anyone finding the same and leaving it at the State Gazette office can retain $5. The money was lost November 15th, 1897. W A YOUNG Stokes, Tenn.

SAMARIA BRIEFS--Marshall JARRETT is sick with slow fever. Miss Nettie EASLEY visited her sister living near Mount Hope last Sunday. --Mrs. Maggie EASLEY of Tiger Tail, is spending the week with Samarie friends. E A MIDETT's father and little neice, Miss Gracie MIDETT, of Jackson, came to see him last week. Homer JOHNSON and his friend, Tom DODSON, of Sorrell's Chapel, will tarry in Lake County, on business, for an unlimited time. Sidney DOYLE came home last week. He and his mother, Mrs. Martha DOYLE are both sick with la grippe. Rufus WHITE and family were guests last weekend of his brother, William WHITE and family near Friendship. Mr. & Mrs. John HARMEN of Crockett County were recent visitors at the home of their nephew, J B ECHOLS and Family. Ula Belle, infant daughter of T A HENRY and wife, is at present the joy and pride of the household, being just now two weeks old. A B WITT, well recommended, has charge of our white literary school. James FOWKLES, who has given satisfaction as manager of the colored school, is again their teacher. Mrs. Mattie NORTH, much improved in health, went two weeks ago to visit her kinsman, Henry NEAL anf Family at Gates. Miss Eva TANSELL and Newton BUNNELL, of Pafford's Chapel, spent last Sunday here. The tacky party at G T NORTH's one night last week! Linnie Belle ECHOLS and R A SCARBROUGH won the blue ribbon.
