Dr. John B. York, son of J. H. and Sarah A. York, was born near Friendship, Tenn., in 1844. He was educated at Friendship, and after leaving college engaged in teaching a year, then entered the store of Sinclair & Rice, and was with them as salesman for five years. In 1870 he married Miss Vickie, daughter of Anderson McGill. Mrs. York was born in Benton County, Tenn., in 1853, and died in 1871. In 1871 he entered the office of Dr. T. J. Rice, and commenced the study of medicine; he attended two courses of lectures at the Medical University at Nashville, and graduated in 1873, and located at Miller's Chapel, to practice, where he remained until December, 1885, when he moved to Friendship, Tenn., where he still resides. In 1874 he married Miss Jennie, daughter of Edward and Sarah Reamey. Mrs. York was born in Benton County, in 1855, and by this marriage they have five children: Nina, Sarah, Edna, John, and Ed. R. Dr. York from the beginning of his practice has been very successful as a physician, and his professional duties have entirely filled his time. He is a member of the Dyer County Medical Association, and in politics is a Republican. |
