Dr. W. S. Moore resides in the 7th District of Dyer County and is engaged in farming and the lumber business. His parents were H. M. and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Moore; he was one of four children, two of whom are living: Sarah E., wife of J. K. McDonald, of Crockett County, and W. S. Moore, who was born in Crockett County in 1852. His father was of Scotch-English ancestry, and was born in Crockett County in 1821. His grandfather, William Moore, was a native of North Carolina, where he married, and in 1820 immigrated to Crockett County, where he remained until his death. The father of our subject was educated at home, and taught one school term. When twenty-three he married Miss Elizabeth Jenkins, and settled where Bell's Depot now stands; was a wagon-maker, and died in 1855. Mr. Moore was born in Stokes County, N. C., in 1824, and is still living in Crockett County. Our subject remained at home until he was twenty-four years old, receiving his early education at Bell's Depot, and finishing at East Tennessee University, in Knoxville, in 1870. In 1871 he entered the Ohio Medical College, at Cincinnati, and graduated in 1872, and returned the same year to the Eclectic School and graduated in 1873, and moved to Butler County, Mo., to practice medicine. He remained ten months, and then located at Palestine, Obion Co., Tenn., and continued his practice four years, when he returned to his native county, and two years after gave up his practice on account of ill health. He was very successful in his profession. His practice was based on the eclectic theory. In December, 1873, he married Miss Poca, daughter of J. M. and Martha Harris, of Obion County. They had two children: Olin H. and William P. Mrs. Moore died in 1876, and December 23, 1880, he married Miss Anna J., daughter of Samuel H. and Mary J. Jones, and by her has three children: Clyde, Goodwin and Carter. After giving up his practice he dealt in live stock. In 1881 he moved to Dyer County, and purchased 250 acres of land, and has since been farming and sawing lumber. He is a Democrat, and a member of the K. & L. of H. Mrs. Moore was born in Dyer County in 1854, and is a member of the Methodist Church.
