T. J. Miller, one of the substantial farmers and citizens of the Second District of Dyer County, was born October 27, 1853, and was one of a family of five children, four of whom are now living. He is a son of George and Mary E. (King) Miller. His father was born May 27, 1818, and moved to Dyer County in 1836, being among the early settlers of the county. After his marriage he located eight miles southeast of Dyersburg, and was for many years magistrate of the district, and had the postoffice at his house for a long time, the office being known as Miller's Chapel. His mother was born in Dyer County, March 4, 1833, and died in 1881. T. J. Miller was educated at Miller's Chapel. In December, 1884, he married Maggie C., daughter of John E. and Ellen Bell. Mrs. Miller was born in Dyer County, in 1861. By their union they had one daughter: Mary E. After the death of his father, Mr. Miller assumed the duties of the farm. He owns 250 acres of well improved land, with good buildings on it. He is a man of energy and tact for business, generous in disposition, and progressive in ideas, and a stanch Democrat. Mrs. Miller is a member of the Presbyterian Church
