R. S. Beaver is engaged in farming in the First District, and was born in Henderson County, March 1, 1841; was one of six children, five of whom are living. His parents were C. and Kizzie Beaver. His father was born in Lincoln County, March 1, 1816, and moved to Henderson County about 1828 and engaged in farming and merchandising. He lives on the farm in Henderson County, and has a dry goods store in Friendship. He has held the office of magistrate for several years. His wife was a few years younger and died in 1853. Mr. R. S. Beaver is a prominent citizen of Dyer County. He enlisted July 1861 in Company A, Twenty-seventh Tennessee Infantry, served one year as private and was promoted to second lieutenant. He participated in eleven of the hardest fought battles of the Tennessee Army; was wounded five times and quite severely at Shiloh. He returned home May, 1865. In 1865 he married Miss Larsena, daughter of S. R. and Frances Carver. Mr. Carver was one of the first settlers of Henderson County. Mrs. Beaver was born June 3, 1841. They have three children: Robert, Lafayette and Frank. After marriage Mr. Beaver located in Henderson County. In 1874 he moved to Dyer County and for six years lived four miles west of Dyersburg; then bought a farm in Crockett County and lived there until 1885. Then he again moved to Dyer county and has a splendid farm of 258 acres, just north of Stokes postoffice. He is a Democrat and both a Mason and Odd Fellow and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Beaver is a man of sterling worth and justly holds the esteem and confidence of all who know him. |
