Albert Gallatin Hallum was born September 19, 1815, Tennessee; died May 3, 1890, and is buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery, Dyer County, TN. He married Lurania Pace probably in Carroll Co., TN about 1836. Albert was a son of Morris and Nancy Marshall Hallum of Carroll Co., TN. Lurania, born December 19, 1819; died February 8, 1904, was almost certainly a daughter of Dury Pace, who is numerated in the 1830 federal census for Carroll Co., TN. She is buried in Poplar Grove Cemetery, Dyer County, TN. Their first child, Susan, was born in Tennessee in 1837 and their second child, Woodson Carroll, was born in Mississippi in 1839. Albert patented land (purchased from US government) in Chickasaw Co., MS in 1839. In 1852, land he owned in Chickasaw Co., MS was part of that county that was combined with areas of two other counties to form Calhoun Co, MS. Albert was a Justice of the Peace in the 1840s in Chickasaw Co., MS and then was elected as one of the first five members of the Board of Police, now known as the Board of Supervisors, for the newly created Calhoun County, MS. He cast the deciding vote to create Pittsboro as the county seat for Calhoun County, MS. On May 6, 1861, Albert G. Hallum joined as a private the Calhoun Avengers which became part of Company C, 44th Mississippi Infantry, C.S.A. He was discharged at Tupelo, Mississippi, July 3, 1862. Then in September, 1864, he became a lieutenant in Company A, 4th Regiment Calvary. Following the Civil War, in late 1865 or early 1866, Albert and Lurania Pace Hallum moved from Calhoun County, MS, to Dyer County, TN, where they lived the remainder of their lives. Children of Albert Gallatin and Lurania Pace Hallum were: 1. Susan Hallum, born 1837, Tennessee; married Jasper N. Armstrong , born February 24, 1834; died January 24, 189l. Jasper is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Dyer Co., TN. Possibly Susan is buried by him but the square marker has only his name and information and that of a Lambert grandchild. (In the 1910 federal census Susan was numerated in the home of her daughter, Hester Armstrong Lambert and son-in-law, A. J. Lambert, in Hot Springs, AR.) 2.
