Know all men by these presents that we William W Turner and wife Martha A Turner have bargained and sold and do hereby bargain and sell and convey to Mary E. Simmons for the consideration of Seventeen Hundred Dollars the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the following described lot or parcel of land lying in Butterworths division of the Town of Dyersburg and described as follows: Beginning at the South west corner of Stevens Bros Lot running with his East boundary line North 4 1/4o W 19 poles 22 links to a stake; Thence south 87o 6-6 poles and 1/3 of a link to TJ Fragins West Boundary line; Thence with said line south 4 1/4o East 19 poles & 22 links to his south West corner; Thence North 87 1/2 o West 6 poles and 1/3 of a links to the Beginning. To Have and to hold to the said Mary E. Simmons her heirs and assigns forever and we do hereby covenant and warrant that we have a good title to said lot or parcel of land and we guarantee the title to the same and promise to defend the title to the said Mary E. Simmons and her heirs against the lawful claims of all persons whomsoever. Witness our hands and seals this 3rd day of January 1887 WW Turner MA Turner State Of Tennessee Dyer County Personally appeared before me WL Wilkerson Clerk of the County [Page 46] Court of said County, the above named WW Turner and MA Turner the bargainers, with whom I am personally acquainted, and acknowledged that they executed the above instrument for the purposes therein expressed, And MA Turner, wife of the said WW Turner having personally appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said MA Turner acknowledged the execution of the said instrument to have been done by her freely, voluntarily, and understandingly without compulsion or constraint from her said husband, and for the purposes therein expressed Witness WL Wilkerson Clerk of said Court, at office, this 4th day of January 1887.
