THOMAS MILLER guardian of M.A. STALLINGS now but formerly Petition for Division of Slaves M.A. TUNNAGE & EMILY TUNNAGE E.G. STALLINGS & wife & EMILY TUNNAGE Exparte Be it remembered that on this the 2nd day of January 1855 came on this cause for final hearing upon the exparte petition of THOMAS MILLER guardian of MARY A. STALLINGS now but formerly M.A. TUNNAGE & EMILY TUNNAGE , E.S. STALLINGS & Wife & EMILY TUNNAGE when it appeared to the satisfaction of the court that MARY A. STALLINGS now but formerly MARY TUNNAGE and EMILY TUNNAGE are & were heirs at law of JOSEPH TUNNAGE and inherited from said JOSEPH TUNNAGE jointly two Negro slaves ( to wit ) JESSE aged about 37 years and CAROLINE aged about 7 years and some money amounting now to about $1200 that THOMAS MILLER is and has been the hereby appointed guardian of the said MARY A. STALLINGS & EMILY TUNNAGE for several years that EMILY TUNNAGE has lately arrived at the age of 21 years that M.A. STALLINGS is a minor under the age of 21 years and has lately married E.G. STALLINGS and it appearing further to the satisfaction of the court that it is manifestly to the interest of said heirs at law of JOSEPH TUNNAGE that SLAVES be divided between M.A. TUNNAGE and EMILY TUNNAGE.
It is therefore ordered adjudged and decreed by the court Wm. MILLER , GEORGE MILLER, JOHN A. SHELTON, NELSON T. SHELTON & DAVID PARISH be and they are hereby appointed commissioners to value said slaves and divide the same between M.A. STALLINGS and EMILY TUNNAGE and report their proceedings to the
next February term of this court (p-417). Monday January 1st. 1855 till the coming of which report all other matters are reserved. Note: Spelling and wording as in document.
