John R. Robbins To} Power of Attorney D. J. Williamson Registered October 14th, 1853 Stephen D. Whitten RDC Know all men by these presents that I John R Robbins of the County of Dyer State of Tennessee have nominated and appointed D J Williamson of the same County and State my true and lawful agent and attorney in fact for me and in my name to sell and convey by Deed under seal with general warranty to any person wishing to purchase the same on such terms as he shall think proper at private sale all that tract of Land which I bought out of Grant No- for 5000 acres to McNairy Butler & Phillips containing by estimation One Hundred and Fifty acres more or less on which I now live in the 7th Civil District of Dyer County on which the said D J Williamson has a Deed of Trust to secure him as Administrator of E A Ferguson in the sum of about Seven Hundred and Twenty Dollars to which deed reference is made for a full description of said Land – And I hereby authorize and empower my said Attorney after selling said land as aforesaid to pay whatever else I may be oweing him on a final settlement then to appropriate the balance of the proceeds as follows – First to pay Echols & Frazier a debt of about $101- and to Connell & Ferguson about $27 which I have heretofore directed said Williamson by writing to pay next after the debt to E A Ferguson. Secondly to pay to Isaac Sampson & Son One Hundred Dollars their fee for defending me against a prosecution for Larceny now pending on which I have been bound to attend the next circuit court and to J M S Barker Fifty Dollars for his fee in the same case and finally and lastly to hold the rest of the proceeds of said land for me and pay them to me if I faithfully make my personal appearance at the next Circuit Court – at Dyersburg on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in October next to answer said charge and save harmless my securities in my recognizance and in the event I fail to appear at said Court or any of said securities Suffer in consequence of my default then my said attorney is authorized by these presents to retain the balance of the proceeds of said sale of said Land to indemnify and make whole my above named Securities – Witness my hand and seal this 19th day and September 1853. Tarant Clerk of the County Court of Said County H Clark and F A Crenshaw the two subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Power of Attorney who after being duly sworn depose and say that they are personally acquainted with John R Robbins the nominator before named and that he signed and acknowledged the execution of the within Power of Attorney for the purposes therein set forth in their presence.
