I Lewis Methey have this day bargained and sold and do hereby transfer and convey to D. J. Wilson2 for 
the sum of five dollars to me paid and the other consideration herein after mentioned a tract of land in the 
State of Tennessee Dyer County in range ten and section eight on the West bank of the Obion river 
granted by the State of Tennessee to Fields & Whitson by Grant No 4156 & entry No 36 Beginning on 
the Bank of the Obion River at a Black Gum Hickory and red bud 95 poles north and 766 poles east from 
the South East corner to an extention to an 8 acre entry in the name of Jones & Stephens Running South 
Forty nine poles to a stake and pointers Thence east ninety eight poles to a stake & pointers Thence North 
forty nine poles to a stake and pointers Thence east ninty eight poles to the Beginning.  To have and to 
hold the same to the said D. J. Williamson his heirs and assigns forever I do covenant with the said DJ 
Williamson that I am lawfully seized of said lands have a good right to convey it and that the same is 
unencumbered I do further covenant and bind my self my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever 
defend the title to the said Lands and every part there of to the said D. J. Williamson his heirs and assigns 
forever and I have this day also bargained and sold into the said DJ Williamson his heirs and assigns 
fifteen head of stock cattle ear marked Swallow fork & under bits in right & crop off of Left also fifty 
head of stick hogs crop slit & over bit in right ear.  But this Deed is made for the following uses and trusts 
and for no other purposes that is to say whereas R. H. McGaughey & T. J. Connell have become my 
Security for Stay of Execution on a Judgement which James R. Bell recovered against me on the 1st Day 
of December 1850 before J. N. Pierce esqr. For Eighty Dollars & costs, and whereas also the R. H. 
McGaughey & T. J. Connell have become my security for Stay of Execution on a Judgement which 
Joseph Mitchell Administrator ?? recovered against me before J. N. pierce for nineteen dollars seventy 
five cents on the 25th day of January 1851 and whereof also I am indebted to McGaughey & Richardson 
in the sum of thirty four dollars & twenty five cents due by account for medical services rendered in the 
year 1849. 1850.=1 and I am desired to secure and make certain the payment of the same.  Now if I 
should pay off and discharge the said several judgements on or before the 25th day August 1851 and pay 
off and discharge the said debts to McGaughey & Richardson on or before the said 25th day of August  
then this deed to be void but if I should not then the said D. J. Willson as trustee after Giving ten days 
notice in writing at the court House door in the Town of Dyersburg and as four other public places in said 
County may expose said Lands and said Hogs & cattle to public sale at the court House door in said 
County and sell it to the highest bidder for cash and appropriate the proceeds first to the payment of the 
nessary expences and costs and secondly to the sales faction of said Judgements & debts and thirdly to 
pay the balance of any there be to me.
Witness my hands and seal this 10~ day January 1851.

Lewis Mathey the within named bargainor with whom I am personally acquainted and acknowledged the 
execution of the foregoing deed of trust for the purposes therein contained.  Witness my hand at office 
this 10th Febuary 1851.

grammatical errors.
1 There are several different variations of the spelling of Lewis Matheny in this deed.
2  This is DJ Williamson.  It is a typo.
