William P. Fowlkes To – Deed for Acres Henderson Clark Registered January 4th, 18521 Stephen D. Whitten R. D. C. This indenture made and entered into this thirty first day of December 1852 By and between William P. Fowlks of the first part and H. Clark of the Second Part both of the State of Tennessee and Dyer County witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of two Hundred and Ten Dollars to the said Fowlkes paid by the Said Clark the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Fowlkes hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and convey unto the said Clark a piece or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Dyer & State aforesaid adjoining the Town of Dyersburg on the West and Part of M Lemore & Vauly 201 ½ acre Entry and the same heretofore bargained to G. B. Simmons Bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a stake with Black Gum Birch and Two hornbeams pointers Standing on the Bank of Forked Deer River Thence down the River as it meanders South 59o West nine poles to a stake in the middle of a Branch thence up the same as it meanders North 40o West Twenty poles to a stake standing in the said branch with two Hickorys & Elm Pointers thence North 59o East 24 ½ Thence South 23 ½ poles to the Beginning containing by estimation Two and one tenth acres. To Have and to hold the aforesaid land and bargained premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the said Clark his heirs and assigns forever and the said Fowlkes for himself his heirs executors Administrators doth covenant and agree to and with the said Clark his heirs & assigns that he will forever warrant and defend the Title to the above described land and bargained premises against the lawful claims of all and every person or persons. Given the fact that the date at the beginning of the deed is written as December of 1852, it is probable that the recorded date should read January 4th, 1853.
